I have been to this location before in the past and ended up at Lohman's Plaza instead. After my massage therapist there quit, I had to find someone else. That search wasn't started for several months and I found myself in a point of desperation. The Sunrise location is closest to my house so I decided to head back there to find the right fit. I definitely found it! When I was getting massages on a regular basis, I would best be described as a massage therapists nightmare. Add several months and no massage and anyone who touched me would have been totally justified running for the hills. I have deep knots that have lived there for years and I relax as well as a slab of granite. I saw Shannon my first time back and have been to him ever since. We've had monthly appointments since November when I finally came back to getting regular massages and renewed my membership. While we haven't really been able to move far past my neck, shoulders, and back, he listens to what I tell him are my problem areas, and probably most important, does not judge when I say I've made things worse with my work posture or moving a mattress four times in one day. He is very deliberate with his methods and is able to get to those deep knots to get them to release, even if just a little. I leave the appointment, sad that an hour went by so fast and absolutely massage drunk. My body feels like goo and I'm as calm as can be. I tend to be pretty stressed and high strung but wasn't at all when I called a coworker after my appointment. She noted that I sounded very different and didn't have my usual bite to my words. I can only attest that to the work Shannon has been able to do to fix the things I've messed up. I can't imagine seeing anyone else now. Those knots would scare everyone else off. Had a massage with Brandi today and it was wonderful. She listened to what I needed and delivered.

After 5 massages I decided to cancel my membership. I prefer a more personal massage in a quiet, warm and relaxing setting. I let my masseuse know that I bruised a little on my lower back the last time, so would prefer the focus be on my upper back (deep tissue) as was done the last two times (by her). When she came back in the room to start, I was TOLD that she would not be doing anything deep and that this is her decision. Keep in mind I let her know I have NEVER had any bruising on my upper back, including two with her. I was stunned and very annoyed. I wish I would have just left immediately, rather spend my time and money on a sub-par massage. read more

I would describe membership with massage envy like having a shitty time share. The amount of open times to book are pretty low. The amount of good providers... even worse! I found one good provider and she ended up getting injured so I wasn't able to keep going to her. I understand and agree that you pay more for good service. But envy is not it.. your chances of getting a good massage at a decent time are way higher at a walk in Asian place. Oh and they constantly rob you of your time. 60min massage is more like 40-45. If you're late... to bad, you get charged. If they cancel on you.. no problem, for them. I had so many last minute cancels it was seriously irritating! my daughter bought me a massage at massage envy on sunrise. I have never had a massage and was a little bit nervous. I have metal in my back and my hip and so I just wanted a massage on my shoulders and part of my back. I go in for the first time and they want your full medical history. Outrageous! they even asked me if I exercise. Wtf? I did not give them my medical history . I said I just wanted a massage on my neck and shoulders and they said well you have to be on a table. I said you don't have a chair I can sit in and they said well if you had to do a chair one we'd rebook you. I said you don't have anyone that can massage my neck and shoulders really? It's no wonder they got very few stars. I can't imagine being a masseuse and turning down $100 massage because you only wanna do it on a table. ?? I'll never go back and I'll probably never get a massage because of the horrible experience. I love the staff and services here and highly recommend. As a long time ME member -- over ten years with 3 other family members -- we have had issues like others in the past with ME cancellations and member administration issues around billing and points etc. But for the past few years everything with this location been great! Five stars for me. I thought I might share a couple things I have learned in case its helps others set expectations and get the most value. I have found there are big differences based on the locations. I have used at least 5 different locations on a regular basis in the past (over the last 10 years). If it is possible to go to the same location were you are established that will help a lot I think. Also finding one with less staff turnover is the best. Like any business that relies on individual service providers there will be scheduling conflicts that arise. 1) I try to plan ahead and always have 3 appointments on the books. It's almost like Murphy's Law. I rarely get a cancellation, but I feel that if I only had one appointment on the books the chances of a cancellation would be much higher. And more frustrating. Nothing scientific about that just my experience. :) 2) Be flexible with who is available and try different therapists to find the 2 or 3 best matched for you. Again like having multiple appointments on the books this helps a lot and provides more opportunities to get regular intervals covered without frustration. Its nice to get the same person with the same results every time but it is also more likely your schedules wont always match up. I hope this helps and if you are deciding to either try Massage Envy or are looking for a new location, I don't think you will be disappointed and I hope you find them as helpful and professional as I have. read more

Omg!!! Rachel is your person if you go!!! I have never been to Massage Envy before but received a gift card to it. I had the (Swedish) trigger massage points massage where Rachel literally went through and unknotted all my knots on my neck, back and shoulders! It was definitely a little uncomfortable but she was so good and walked me through and ensured that I was okay. We didn't get to work on any of the other body parts aside from the three mentioned above but it was so worth the hour! I will definitely be returning probably twice a month now. So I never write reviews but I just had to write this one. It is a long story but I will make it as short as possible. This specific location cancelled my massage time 3 times! This was so frustrating, The first time they cancelled my appointment was because someone quit, another is because the massage therapist got sick and the third time is because the person forgot to put my appointment on the calendar! They rescheduled each appointment again but in a month!! So I waited over 4 months until my gift certificate was expired! I can't even get the massage I was gifted. After 10 days with no return phone call I disputed the charge with my bank and asked for a partial ($20, 1/4 of the$80 charge before tip) refund. I sent an email through the link that Massage Envy left on my original review and never got a response. About a week later the manager finally called back and left a message saying she could refund $10. Since I had already initiated things with my bank I didn't return her call. It can be tricky to get in as they are all so popular, but if you book ahead that solves that problem. They also occasionally get cancellations so you can sign up for text alerts to snag those. To all those that are currently signed up with Massage Envy or are considering it. BUYER BEWARE!!! I just cancelled my membership for a couple of reasons, the main one being that my income has been affected by the current Stay at Home order in California. It took the Manager at the Sunrise in Citrus Heights location two days and me threatening her with escalation to even get back to me with what I needed to do to cancel my membership. I just filled out the form and I have 60 days to use my 10 credits ($650.00 worth). And....they are closed until April 8th. Not sure about you, but I am NOT comfortable using their facilities within the next 60 days given the current situation with COVID19. Not to mention I have had a VERY difficult time scheduling appointments with the location by my house on Fairway in Roseville. So, as I see it, given the current situation, I am unable to use my credits and the refuse to give me a full refund. FYI, I would take the refund over using their credits because this has left a really poor taste in my mouth. Please spread the word. This Franchise is not flexible in a time of crisis and is okay keeping my money. Not who I choose to support going forward. read more

I have been with massage envy for many years. I used to go to the one in South Sacramento and they were fantastic. This FRANCHISE is terrible. I had to go through multiple e-mail exchanges and to the district manager to have them work with me and my 20HOURS of credits! They have ZERO care if they screw up. Then they required me when the district manager left and a new one came I was told they would NOT honor the old DM's agreement and I needed to go through the new DM. I handled that. FINALLY, I made a final appointment for today for the amount of hours that I had left in the office with them the last time I was there. when I showed up there today they tell me I don't have those hours available and I need to pay For another hour. DO NOT SPEND UR MONEY HERE. I will never give my money to any massage envy again because of this franchise. read more

Completely unacceptable business practices. This place has gone way downhill. They never answer their phone when you call. They have cancelled the last two scheduled appointments I had. Twice in a row! I've been a loyal customer for over a decade with massage envy. I have multiple prepaids I haven't used so I'm stuck with them. I had an appointment scheduled for a massage a couple of weeks ago. Got a voicemail a few hours before that my therapist was sick. Okay, that happens. I'll have to cancel my arranged childcare but I understood. Then a few weeks later when I can finally arrange time for another appointment (and am in severe pain from neck strain) they call me again ONLY AN HOUR before my appointment to tell me they have to cancel. So again I have to cancel arranged childcare. Then when I try to call to reschedule and complain....no one answers. I've tried calling like 10 times today....So now I'm left in complete pain and too late to find an appointment anywhere else. They treat their customers horribly!!! read more

I have been to several massage envy locations but this one by far is the worst. They front desk staff have no courtesy. I was early to my appointment. After waiting for 20 minutes, I inquire about my session. Apparently, my scheduled therapist Marie, takes back the wrong client and does not even know who she's supposed to see. Meanwhile the front desk staff asks me to come back out front from the tranquility room so as to not disturb the guests but would not offer services as it's already 30 minutes into the session time that has now elapsed. There is another esthetician Victoria, available but can't see me as it would delay her next scheduled appointment. All I get is the chance to reschedule my appointment with no compensation for the error on their end. I know my wife was charged for the entire session as she was 15 minutes late and was not offered service but if the therapist or the front desk is at fault, nothing absolutely! Looks like there have been several bad reviews on google already, wish I had seen them prior to visiting this location. Please take your business elsewhere. read more

This place is an absolute joke. They treat not only their customers, but their staff terribly. Staff is completely Underpaid, overworked, drilled with sales and numbers bs. All they care about is getting their memberships. Not your "wellness" They lock you in so that you're stuck in a 12-13 month contract to pay monthly for something you can't even use. 100% fact that they plan for you to come in and pitch to you. They are always booked out at least a month. But are they? No... they hold spots to get "guests" in so they can get more memberships and money. It's a sick franchise, corporate business model. Wow! Honestly the best massage I've had in years. Kudos to James and his fabulous technique! The tension headache I walked in with surrendered to his masterful skill...and that Vulcan grip. Highly recommend! Really enjoyed the quiet room that offered cool water, a variety of hot teas, and delicious apples. For a chain establishment, this was a unique and special touch. The experience was complete when they offered a military discount with the annual membership. To top it off, today's massage was FREE with membership - who doesn't love that?!
