Here's the update you need for post-COVID Massage Envy Tempe Marketplace: Prices are going up to $75 a month. Kinda expected, but just FYI if you are "sold" at a lower price. What's most important to know is that they currently have 4 (literally ONLY 4) massage therapists at this location, maybe 1 of which is full-time. This isn't some new thing... it's been low staff like this for many, MANY months. If you sign up for a membership, you will NEVER EVER EVER be able to schedule an appointment (slight hyperbole... maybe months out, at least). I have... no joke, 30+ prepaid massages that I simply cannot use. I've tried to schedule weekly massages, but ha-ha, the manager blocks off appointment times for new client availability, so that existing members such as myself, cannot actually book with the therapists we've been going to for many, many years. All so Massage Envy can do a grand bait-and-switch to try to sell new memberships. Expect to show up for your made-months-in-advance scheduled massage to find confused employees who, only after several minutes of silence, finally as a group have the courage to tell you that your massage therapist actually isn't in and "someone should have called you" with no apology, concern, or explanation for why you got the standard text messages and automated phone call to confirm your appointment (which you did indeed confirm). If you ever have a billing concern or want to speak to the manager, Karena, well, this unicorn never comes to the office, doesn't return phone calls, and takes lots of vacations. She is unprofessional and truly carefree - as in, she is free of any potential care she could have regarding clients. If you are concerned about COVID, therapists, staff, and clients are no longer asked to wear masks. They used to give a $5 off per month discount for ASU students w/ ID. I did not ask if this is still active but they no longer have signage up advertising the offer. BOTTOM LINE- if you are considering a Massage Envy Tempe Marketplace membership (or really at any Massage Envy)... STOP. REREAD my unfortunate update. And WAAAAAALK AWAY to literally any other massage place, chain or otherwise. Pros: clean facilities, nice staff. Cons: My massage started late & I was stuck in the "tranquility room" with two women who were loudly talking until I got up to go find my masseuse myself. I requested firm pressure & it was extremely light. I even asked for more pressure & didn't feel a huge difference. The room was way too cold. The weather was freezing & yet the table warmer wasn't on. Instead the fan was blasting. I think the biggest drawback is the extremely aggressive sales tactics when you're trying to check out. They don't take no for an answer when trying to pitch you a membership. It was honestly so annoying & unpleasant. Actually the worst staffing I've ever seen. I called and booked a facial where they asked a series of questions regarding my skin, but when I got there said that they couldn't perform the facial because of a prescription medicine I was on 3 months ago, even though I was cleared by my doctor to do this. I am extremely disappointed because I just wasted my time here over something that could have been talked about over the phone when I brought it up. Also, their waiting room is very unhygienic with stains on the seats and sticky substances--ew. I was sexually touched and made to feel extremely uncomfortable during a 90-minute massage at this establishment which I am a member of. I left the massage in tears and immediately told the manager Alyssa what happened. She was sweet and apologetic and gave me a hotline to call; I was told there was a zero-tolerance policy, and that Massage Envy took these allegations very seriously. I told her I didn't want to return and to cancel my future appointments. I received one call from a woman that took a detailed description of what happened...and that was it. I tried to call and completely cancel my membership and was told that "the manager would have to ask if that was allowed and would get back to me"...and I never heard back. I called another time to ask to be refunded for the massage where I was sexually assaulted and I was told that I was never charged, yet I still have that charge and another one from them for the following month as well. The lack of concern that I have received is appalling, the lack of support and communication is even worse. I haven't asked for compensation or threatened to get a lawyer all I've done is asked to cancel my membership and get a refund for the massage and apparently that cannot be done. Massage Envy is just another corporate place that looks at you as a price tag not a human. Support a local masseuse instead, don't waste your time or money on this corporation that will make you pay to be sexually assaulted by their employees. read more

I had a 90 minute massage with Amy K this morning and oh my, she was fabulous! I am a member and will say I have not had this good of a therapist for about 9 years when the one I loved left. I had firm pressure. Walked in with an achy back having been to the chiropractor yesterday for an adjustment. Walked out feeling no aches and now several hours later, still feeling great! Amy K. can do all pressures, and I find it hard to get someone who truly does a firm to deep. I highly recommend her and already made another appointment for 2 weeks. Thank you Amy!! read more

This was unfortunately one of the most disappointing massages I've ever had. I purchased a 60 min stretch and 60 min massage and had Shirley as my masseuse for both sessions. The stretch lasted 40 min instead of 60 and mostly consisted of Shirley sitting down and watching me lay on the bed with blocks or pressure point balls under my back. It ended with her putting a ball on the floor and telling me to roll it back and forth with my foot. Then the massage, which only lasted 45 min, was approximately 15 min spent on my back and shoulders and the remainder spent on my feet. I specifically told the person at the fron that I needed work on my lower back and shoulders. Instead...I got the longest foot massage ever. I can't say anything for the other workers there but definitely do not use Shirley. read more

I don't right bad review, but this company is very underhanded when it comes to explaining how the membership works. I wanted to do a one time visit, but when I payed for my visit, I was alarmed to find out, that I had signed up for A 12 month membership. When I never go, a gift card was what I used for a one time visit. When I told them I wanted to cancel my membership, they said they can't do that, I signed an agreement. They did adv me, that I could put a freeze on the membership, which restricts me from having access to the membership. I was ok with that. Then I would be charged one more time in Sep before 12 months is over. I got a call on Oct 3rd from Message Envy and an attempt on my acc to take funds. I called them back and the manager adv that I was given false info, that I would have to make up the payments during the freeze. I adv I never used the membership since there was a freeze, why would I need to pay for what I wasn't and couldn't use. She said there was nothing to be done. I called my bank to dispute last transaction and block Message Envy. Not a trustworthy company, since I kept getting false info. read more

I received 2 Massage Envy gift cards last year, but had not used them yet. So when my shoulder pain flared up, and I couldn't get in to see my chiropractor, I decided to cash in the gift cards and get a massage...which turned into using the gift cards towards a 6 month membership. Dennis has been my therapist since the beginning. Whether I'm getting a regular massage or a sports massage (for the shoulder), the next day I am usually in little to no pain. This is the worst location of Massage Envy. They are not organized, consistently cancel appointments at the last minute, and have communication issues. Over the last couple of years my appointments have been hit and miss with consistency, but the last three in a row have been cancelled with little or no notice. The last one was cancelled via email WHILE I WAS IN THE LOBBY. Even if this is your closest location, drive further. You will avoid hassle and frustration in the long run. On another note, the therapists themselves are skilled and I have had some really good massages here - when they've actually held up my appointment. Meghan was great and friendly. I got a light-medium pressured massage and her hands were wonderful. I got some back relief for a couple hours and that made me happy. The only huge con was that the room kept smelling like old gym shoes or socks. I don't know if it was from the humidifier or the sheets but that was a huge turnoff and made it hard to fully relax. I tried to tell the check out guy by saying that the room had a weird smell and he just said "Okay noted". Don't think he even cared. Other than that it was a good experience. I am so disappointed. I originally had a five star review, but my experience today was so frustrating. We have to do a survey of what pressure we like and areas to work on, so it would be appreciated if they at least mentioned when booking the person does not use any pressure. I was lying on the bed thinking when is this going to be over. I felt like someone was just running an excessive amount of lotion on me. She asked me at the beginning if the pressure was okay, and I asked for more and she said she would do the best she can. The WORST part was the head rest towel smelled like a wet towel that was forgotten in the wash. With about 20 minutes left in my hour and a half massage she mentioned a high pressure machine. I eagerly said can we please use it. That was my saving grace for the last ten minutes they used that machine. Which I paid an additional $10 for. When he asked at the front how it was and I mentioned the gross smelling head rest and how the pressure was significantly lower than I prefer, exceptional customer service or retaining customer type would say that ten minutes you used that machine will be comp'd, but no, just if I would like to rebook. No thank you. How can you leave a place where you should be relaxed more tense than you arrived. Totally blows, I was super excited about this membership. read more

I received a 60 minutes full body custom massage by Mysia. My mom actually transferred me a free credit so I don't have much to say about the price but it was a wonderful massage. Mysia was very good at communicating and because this was my first massage, she walked me through the entire thing. She did an excellent job and I feel so much more relaxed and less stressed. I have FIVE monthly payments that are currently locked and I am being told I cannot access them without signing up for and completing a 12 month subscription. Save your money, everyone. This is very poor membership management. I might have actually considered signing up again, had I been given a choice to the funding they had already taken from me! Have had a massage envy membership for a few years. There are several good massage therapists at this location. When I first joined, I could get an appointment at the end of the week for sometime on the weekend. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore (which isn't really a negative, just more of a reality if you're expecting to call in an be able to get an appointment). The part that is frustrating is that I've had several occasions where they've cancelled my massage at the last minute. Once they called me a few hours before my appointment to tell me that the therapist was no longer working for them - seems like a strange timeline to me. There have been times where they'll call me that the originally scheduled therapist is no longer available but found someone else that same afternoon or evening, which is nice. One time however, they called me about 2 hours before to cancel but scheduled me with someone else. And then about 15 minutes later called back that actually someone had booked that online, so oops, I couldn't get a massage. I do like massage envy in general, the pricing if you get the membership is a great deal. However, the service at this location leaves a bit to be desired. read more

****Worst experience ever**** Ok.. I get a facial every month religiously. So when I moved to Phoenix, I looked up for the nearest spa/facial place and saw decent reviews on yelp and went there. I saw a lot of reviews saying they are pushy with product sales, but I thought how bad it could be? Oh boy, was I wrong! So, my issue list goes here: 1. I saw the esthetician Nora. She is pretty knowledgable, but I can not appreciate knowledge if you do not cater to my requirements. So I told her I needed less treatment and more massage every single time and that did not work. She, though, helped with the redness desert weather was giving me. On the contrary I went to massage envy thomas rd. and Genie there did only 1 treatment and massaged my face neck and shoulder the entire time 2. Massage envy uses Murad products and sells them as well. Nora suggested me new products each month and expected me to buy them. I really felt guilty if I did not make the purchase. Nora behaved weird if I told I'll not buy or will buy from somewhere else. She, very politely in a very non offensive way, asked me why would I buy the products from Sephora. I told her that I am a VIB rouge member. She said they also had a loyality program(which is not so rewarding - if you buy products worth 75$ 5 times(375$), you get a free facial). I told her every single time I did not want to register. She would still push me for it the next time. After a point it became more of a torture than relaxation 3. I registered for membership. After the 6months were over, it automatically renewed itself (It was written in contract somewhere in small letters, my bad I did not read properly and nobody told me either) So, my subscription expired October. In November, I ask the front desk that when my subscription ends, She told me in January(Blatant lie). To add to it, cancelling the subscription is a pain in the a**. 5 phone calls and 1 visit to the center was needed for stopping them from charging my credit card. Horrible crazy experience. Massage Envy is consistently a waste of time and money. The massage is below average and they are more interested in getting you to sign up for a membership than healing. I would sign up if they made you actually feel better after the massage. But today I am more disappointed by the customer service. They would not accept a $100 bill for a $65 service. I came here for the first time. I wanted to go to the girl I normally visit at another location. But, she is always booked. Of course because, she is fantastic. Anyway ,I called this location and they got me in with a masseuse that fit my time and needs. His name was Juan. He did a great job with pressure and avoiding my neck. The front staff was very helpful when I came in. They had me fill out paperwork ( as I had never visited this location before) . They directed me to the relaxation room which was cool and dark and had water. Which is a nice way to wind down. Everything was very clean inside here,including the restrooms. The only thing I am not crazy about here,is the parking. Tempe Market place is like crazy town for parking. Which has nothing to do with Massage Envy. I received a facial for a birthday gift and I loved the woman, Ebony, who provided this service. I would recommend her to anyone. My issue was with the odd juxtaposition of the relaxation/day spa branding with uptight corporate energy. On the hour, the clients file in and out like clockwork. Which I can appreciate, being a service person myself. But the sales pitch at the end was such a buzzkill. As much as I loved Ebony I likely would never return on my own because there's no point in going to de-stress if you're going to be stressed out by the person at the front desk, negating the effect of the entire service you just purchased. I'm also still trying to figure out why a place that is supposed to be nurturing self-care and relaxation was selling Red Bull to its customers in the waiting area. :) If you're going to make self-care and nurturing your product, it has to be woven through the entire business model, not just be the premise. If I want hard sell, I can go to my gym or join a direct marketing supplement scam. If I go to a day spa, relaxation is my goal. Please let that be my service. read more

My friend wanted to come get massages before finals so we came here. For some reason I haven't had a real massage before, and I definitely regret not getting one sooner. Kyle was the masseuse I was given. He was fabulous. Not only was he really nice to look at (I had to say it) but he was professional and knew what he was doing/talking about. I never felt uncomfortable with him once. As others have said, they are a bit pushy about getting you to sign up for the year membership. For ASU students its $44 a month and you get an hour massage a month as well as other perks. I caved and just did it because I believe it will be really good for my body and for the frequent headaches and migraines I get. I went with specific instructions from my chiro on the type of massage and specific areas the masseuse to work on. I choose massage envy because its a chain so I figured it would be professional establishment. Translation, not a sketchy massage parlor. The introductory price was another bonus. Decided to get a membership after a year of contemplation because my skin is just parched and I needed an esthetician bad. The front desk people are the sweetest ! So nice and accommodating. Don't have anything bad to say since everything went well. I did read some negative reviews about bad massages and such, some advice, always speak up to your massage therapist or estetician.. if you are going to hold in something you dont like during the entire session of course you are going to hate it, they are not mind readers. Another thing to consider is that a good massage therapist/estetician is something that's "in the eye of the beholder". I learned this from previous experiences... had some massages that were just terrible, felt tickled the entire time, and no relaxation.. had others that were just heavenly and relaxing. I realized every massage therapists technique is different, so you kind of have to "shop" around for one that meets your liking before you make your decision on the entire place itself. these workers do not want to work, or do not know a thing about 'massage'. they simply lightly 'rub' you with little to no effort or pressure. my 1hr ($125) foot massage consisted of the gal touching the top of my feet for 30 minutes (?) never touched my heels, a quick swipe over each toe-one time (!). this is lazy, and not "massaging" people. plus, 10 minutes late getting into the massage room, 15 more minutes of fluffing the sheets and preparing the room (?) beware of 'gift certificates' and "special offers" also. they did not honor ours. some karen manager said we must have thought we were buying a special offer on "facials", which they may have been offering at the time we purchased our massage gift certificates. this location talked my underage daughter into signing a one year contract for monthly massages-i believe this is an illegal practice (?).this is a money mill and a joke. read more
