I have been a long time member for years and I've finally reached my breaking point with these people. This location has been going downhill for sometime now and the people in charge are taking it down quicker than ever! Recently I have been undergoing medical treatment overseas that has not allowed me to get massages and has prevented me from using tons of credits I have acquired. I explained my situation in March and requested my account be placed on hold. They sent me the Freeze form and I filled it out as requested. It is worth noting I have done this before and never had any issues but apparently the new regime has some issues processing things accordingly and having an accountability. This month they resumed the billing cycle (without permission) and have now sent the account into overdraft and accept zero responsibility for their error and refuse to do anything to fix it. In addition to charging me $75 instead of $20, they also have now made me get a $35 fee. They claim it is only for a month at a time yet on the form I signed and sent in it clearly asks for a date and says up to 6 months at a time. Stay clear at all costs. I will be canceling my membership and never returning. I will also be reporting this as FRAUD! Absolutely pathetic customer service. read more

The worst customer service I have experienced in my entire life tried to make an appointment two weeks after Mother's Day because my husband got me a $125 gift card and they gave you a $25 credit . Told me I could use the $25 credit towards a tip was no problem . I made my first appointment and they made me reschedule because I asked for a female over the phone and they accidentally scheduled me with a male and I said no problem, mistakes happen I'll just make a second appointment. then my second appointment I told them I was now pregnant and they made me reschedule AGAIN because it wasn't a "prenatal" massage (understandable) so I was now having to make a third appointment - very annoyed but what can I do. I go to make a third appointment but they had no prenatal appointments available at the west ashley location for over 2 months so then they had me call around to North Charleston and mount pleasant locations because they didn't have any prenatal appts available at west ashley for the next two months and they told me it would be $75 for an hour prenatal for me at any massage envy. So I walked outside to my car in the parking lot and I called the mt pleasant massage envy and they told me they didn't know who I was talking to at the west ashley location but that they were wrong that they were all around $130 so I walked right back in the west ashley location 2 minutes later and they told me that Mt. Pleasant location was wrong . I didn't know who to believe anymore I was so over it and just trying to schedule my third time somewhere just to get rid of this gift card at this point. I even asked to just get our $125 back that my husband paid in cash and I even HAD my receipt in hand and they told me they couldn't do that without a manager. I asked for a manager to get our $125 back and they informed me that the manager wasn't there so they couldn't return our $125 regardless. So (beginning of august) I end up scheduling at west ashley location again although the appointment wasn't for two more months (the end of October). I scheduled it for 1:00 because that's when I could get a baby sitter. They confirmed and I left the store . Fast forward two months (October) , a week before my apt. I called to confirm my1:00 apt and the lady confirmed and said everything was set . A DAY BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT I get a text asking to CONFIRM MY10AM APPOINTMENT ! I was laughing at this point in astonishment. I called the store and they acted like it was 10:00 All along when I know for a fact it had been 1:00 because of everything I had already been going through and knowing my babysitter wouldn't be able to show until 1:00. I was furious . But I end up having to have my mother take off work because my babysitter couldn't arrive at 10:00 the last minute since it had been 1:00 all along now there telling me it's 10am. I show at 10am for my apt. And as I'm walking in they don't have it written down as a prenatal massage !! they tell me that my sheet is entirely blank and asked if I'd ever even been with them before or if I was pregnant. I was like shaking at this point that they asked if I was pregnant . I was thinking to myself "am I being punk'ed?" I'm crying in the room because I am so frustrated with how terrible everything has been with them and thinking they're going to make me reschedule a fourth time. Caroline, who was my masseuse was fantastic and so sweet and was the only enjoyable thing about this entire 6 month experience at massage envy. She apologized over and over and was so understandable and She told me they would give me some sort of credit or 2nd gift card for how much they have been screwing me around before she even started massaging me. I go to leave and caroline reassures me 2 to 3 more times that they would do something for me upfront that she completely understood the frustration I was going through. I thanked her so much and she left. I go upfront to pay and they say I cannot use the $25 original credit voucher as a tip anymore that the woman who told me on the phone originally 6 months ago was probably no longer working there. I was like whatever I'm so over it. And then after I paid for everything and tipped caroline I asked about the credit and or possible gift card and April at the front desk told me that Caroline was blatantly lying that they were never going to give me a second gift card and that she had no idea what I was talking about like I was just completely making everything up about what caroline had been telling me the last hour. absolute WORST experience of any establishment I have ever been to in my life . If I could give negative 28 stars to this horrible place I would . If I could give caroline 100 stars I would. Again can't complain enough about how horribly run this place is yet how fortunate they are to have someone like caroline working for them. read more

Their staff does an excellent job and I have been happy with all of the services that I have got through them over the years. I have to share my MANY experiences with Massage Envy - West Ashley (975 Savannah Hwy, Charleston, SC). I had been a client of theirs for more than 10 years. They had a massage therapist shortage and were still charging my card EVERY MONTH at full price for MONTHS and months. I wasn't able to book ANY massages that were built up (more than $600 worth) due to this, so they were charging money without ANYONE (not just me), not being able to book or use the services. They are STEALING money from their customers, when they Can NOT book services. I tried to book at other locations, but they charged more fees- I paid it anyways. They then CANCELLED my account without a signature, so I was unable to use up my credits. The robbed me of over $500! I am SURE they are doing this to others. If you are a member of the West Ashley or Houston Northcut store, I highly suggest using your credits ASAP elsewhere bc they will CANCEL YOUR ACCOUNT without your permission. Then I booked at Mt Pleasant. They cancelled 3 appointments on me. I text them back and called back and left MULTIPLE messages to rebook. No one ever did. I finally reached someone after 3 weeks of trying. Megan promised me she would work with me on my remaining credits, but when I was told I had to pay (2 hours before my massage), that she WOULD NOT honor my credits and they are charging me full price for the massage!!! WHAT A JOKE! Speaking to their manager, Dustin, and Megan in Mt Pleasant is a complete waste of time. The worst customer service in Charleston. So, I had my first massage Friday night. I must say, I was fairly disappointed with my service. I specifically asked for my glutes, hips, and lower back to be focused on and they were just completely ignored. Although, my calves received much more attention than they ever have before. Don't get me wrong, having someone rub you for 90 minutes overall feels pretty good, however, it just felt like some things weren't quite worked all the way out making it feel like the knots just moved, they weren't worked out. Also, I felt very uncomfortable at the end when being asked how my service was. The front desk was super friendly, I just felt uncomfortable saying eh, it was ok, wouldn't do it again. Overall, I'm glad I had some credits saved up so this wasn't a direct out of pocket expense. In the future, I will be using a different therapist. read more

Becoming a member here may have been one of the BEST decisions I've ever made! I'm a massage aficionado but due to pricey spas, I previously haven't gotten them as often as I'd like. Last week I stayed at the Four Seasons in Miami and paid $230 for a massage at their spa. Locally, Urban Nirvana in West Ashley was my go to (and I still love it there.) However, those spas prices restricted me to fewer massages. Then, I found Massage Envy! I was worried it was going to be "corporate" but the vibe is very serene and zen. The service so far as been great! The front desk is very helpful and welcoming. Some spas can be a little snobby and this is not that experience. But most importantly- let's talk about the actual service! As a member, you pay $60/ mos and get one hr. massage or facial per month. Additional massages are only $45-$68 for 1/hr to 90 min. Today I'm getting the 90 min with a $5 add on of a foot scrub - total cost $73 for 90 min + foot scrub. What???!! That's a crazy good deal. I'm getting my Mom + sister to sign up. Ryan! Ryan! Ryan! The massage therapist Ryan at this location is a miracle worker. I've travelled all over the world, and the massage received from him is possible the best I have ever received. I just returned from a six month deployment when I decide to get a 90-minute massage to help relieve the stress from the deployment. After a consultation with Ryan about what I wanted he specifically target the areas I noted as problematic. After an amazing session, I was eager to book again. I highly recommend this location. I have been to several Massage Envys, not always having the best experience; however, this is one of the best. Definitely ask for Ryan. Call at least a week in advance. I enjoyed a great massage with Natasha. I was looking for a mixture of therapeutic and relaxation, and that is exactly what I got. I felt like she met all my needs we discussed prior to the massage. The facility was relaxing and clean. Two minor annoyances...I asked for an aroma therapy and didn't feel like it enhanced my massage that much. I also did not receive the leftover after the massage, as I was previously told. I also had to enjoy a nice, loud, 5+ minute conversation between two employees in the room next to mine...took away from the calm/quiet atmosphere. I would go back, but I am not rushing back. Visited West Ashley Massage Envy while on a house-hunting trip to Charleston in January, 2010. I travel quite a bit all over the Country and always visit one of these franchises-never having a bad massage. I typically get 3 to 4 massages a month. Shannon at West Ashley is BY FAR the absolute best masseuse that I have ever had in all of the hundreds of massages that I have had-hands down! I'm sort of sad that I had to leave town to head back to D.C. but since I'm moving there I will surely make sure that my ATF is always on my calendar! She really knows her way around an achy and tired body. The facility is very nice. Probably the nicest Massage Envy that I've visited. I went here for a one hour massage with a gift card that was given to me. I wasn't originally interested in this place because a one hour massage for non-members is $95! But the introductory price for first time visits is only $55. Regular prices are cheaper if you become a member. I don't plan on becoming a member, but I did enjoy my massage and the overall experience. The place had a calm atmosphere and a light smell of aromatherapy (not overwhelming). The calming atmospheric music was played throughout all rooms of the spa. Very relaxing. Lights were dim, the place was fairly quiet. My room and table set up was very comfortable. Not too cold or hot. Caroline gave my massage - I'd certainly recommend her. She was very calm and friendly and asked a couple of times during the massage if the pressure was ok. There were only 2 small things I would've liked: 1) a changing room with bathrooms/showers/robes. I had to take everything in my room and just change there. I prefer a separate changing space so I don't feel rushed and can use a mirror to fix hair/makeup before going to work, etc. 2) The massage was actually only 50 minutes (even though advertised as one hour). They allow 5 minutes to prep and 5 minutes to change back after the massage. Most places I've been actually allow a full hour for the massage. We have been coming at least once a month for the last few months, and we are always blown away with every aspect. The front desk staff is very friendly and professional, the relaxation room is set with the perfect amount of light and sound to help you start relaxing before your visit. Today I had Patience as my masseuse. She was AMAZING! Her energy is calming and genuine. She applied the perfect amount of pressure for me. She has a nurturing calm about her that made me completely relax and comfortable for my entire hour. I highly recommend her and will most definitely be requesting Patience as my masseuse for future visits! My boyfriend had Gabby today as his masseuse for the first time. She was kind and thoughtful and even noticed he was a bit sunburned on his shoulder and made a small bottle of soothing lotion for him to take with us. Both of us being in customer service, we genuinely appreciate the small thoughtful gestures. They go a long way!! We look forward to our monthly visit more and more with each visit!!! Horrific experience! Went in for my appointment and as a former cancer patient, I felt belittled and chastised for not filling out an additional questionnaire about my cancer that I had previously mentioned on my prior visit! Cancer is not contagious, and, some mid level managerial girl told me my "chemo could expose the therapist with radiation" they are two different things! I was told the therapist would not see me without the questionnaire filled out and a release from my doctor. I felt like a new pet at the dog salon having to prove I did not have rabies! I just walked out and was horribly embarrassed by the entire event which staff members and at least one other patron heard! They are extremely inconsistent with their procedures and the whole experience was like a low budget massage event! I kept my membership up for I believe over two years, but the lack of professionalism and inconsistency is just too much! Often they called with the wrong dates and times as reminders or they double book you and call in a frenzy as to the appointment! Trust me, this is the budget palace of massages and management is a mess! Clientele is generally, well pretty steerage class as well! Counter staff members are generally slurping on drinks or eating food stinking up the entire welcome area, or, spraying Febreeze all over the place to hide "something" and are generally in terrible shape. One therapist had such a large stomach, it rubbed all over me as he reached! I do not recommend this place at all! read more

In my opinion, this is the best Massage Envy. The people who work the front desk are accommodating and friendly and the therapists are professional. They seem to have a therapist that specialises in each ailment. For example, if your shoulders hurt ask for Travon. He is great at any muscle in the upper back and shoulder girdle region. There are other people that are great for legs. When you schedule an appointment and don't know which therapist you need, tell the scheduler what you need special attention for and they can help select a therapist for you. read more

If you want to RELAX, run from this place I was given a gift certificate for 3 massages over 3 months. I am forfeiting the last two massages. First you meet with your consultant and the HARD SELL starts trying to sell you additions to your massage and membership to join. My 1 hour massage which was supposed to start at 2 pm, started at 2:13 because she also has to try to up-sell and talked me into a foot scrub. She had to leave and get more towels. The entire time I was being massaged, she continued the HARD SELL, telling me I was so tight I needed this and that as well as trying to sell me a membership. My massage was over at 2:55, so not an hour , and it would have been awesome if she had not talked non stop about what I needed to buy, the entire massage. Got to the front desk and here is where the hard sell really got bad. I told them I didn't want to join becAuse I didn't want them debiting my account every month. They said I could just bring a check every month prior to them debiting the account. They had an answer for everything They would NOT take NO for an answer Bottom line: I don't think I have ever been pressured so hard to buy anything in my life. Had a couples massage today at the West Ashley branch and it was fantastic. I had Laura and the hubby had Sash. Since we work out 5-6 days a week we usually get a deep tissue massage or a sports massage. Now for all the people complaining about memberships and how they kill into your time that's just plain ignorant. How else will they be able to address your concerns if you don't let them know how to help you. Massage Envy is a great chain and my husband and I have had great experiences at every one we've been to. From our home branch to the one we visited down in LA, all the way to this one, we are completely in love with this company. Even though every storefront is own and operated by different individuals they all have that same genuine hospitality that you can only find when you're at Massage Envy. The quality of professionals they hire are knowledgeable about the body and they know how to work out the kinks! We felt so much stress and tension melt off as the ladies worked on our bodies that after we were done we booked another session for next week! First off - my massage with Deana was great! Other aspects - not so much. I was told to arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paper work etc so it wouldn't cut into my hour massage. I arrive 25 minutes early just to be safe. After getting paperwork filled out, I had about 9 minutes to spare before my massage was to begin. The massage therapist came to get me 10 minutes late. No problem is what I was thinking, we'll just go to 10 minute after the hour. Not so much. Massage started at 11:12 a.m. and ended at 12:01 p.m. Again - massage was great - but 50 minutes? Really? Other points - the "hard sell" - I was asked no less than 4 times by Baker (gal at the front desk) to sign up for the annual membership. My answer was no and remained no. I'm not a fan of the hard sell. I will use the rest of my gift certificates and won't be returning - unfortunately - as Deana was great. One other thing - they put a "gratuity guide" out....3 stars = $20 for 1 hour, 2 stars = $15 for 1 hour and 1 star = $10 for 1 hour. I think this is a total turnoff. My massage was $49.99...20% of that is $10. That's a good tip for a good massage. read more

After several years I have just stopped my membership here. My favorite massage therapist simply became too difficult to get. She was booked 7-8 months out and my schedule is just too uncertain to make appointments that far in advance. I had a second person I liked and she, too, was very difficult to book. This is the only reason I am leaving. I never had any issues with MAssage Envy otherwise. The place was consistently clean and quiet. My massages were always good. My only challenges were sometimes the parking was difficult and the front desk staff had a lot of turnover so they were not always the easiest folks to deal with. read more
