Did not receive my service. They would not let me reschedule but they redeemed my Groupon, so it was a loss of money.

We made a Groupon reservation and the day before, we had a family emergency. We called to reschedule as we were fully intent on getting the massage, but they didn't answer any of our 4 calls or 2 voicemails. We finally followed up today because we never heard back and they said it was too bad that we lost our money, and claimed they ALWAYS answer their phones. They called us liars? Well, we reported them to Groupon and got a refund. We'll be using the money to go to a more reputable place. read more

I'll be honest. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the facility, but I loved my massage therapist. Alex, you are great. I have been searching far and wide for somewhere I can actually return to after a Groupon use. If only I didn't live in Philadelphia... Most places never listen to me. I always ask for focus on my back/shoulder because I have more knots than you can imagine. He spent almost 30 minutes on my back/shoulder just as I asked, with perfect firm deep pressure. This is why I requested a male masseuse. As for the pricing -- I overheard the receptionist saying it is $39/month for membership and it includes 1 free massage. The groupon price is $39/1hour massage so you basically always have the special pricing! Next time I'm in town, I'll have to give Alex a call to fix my back again! Thank you Alex!!! read more

Excellent full body deep tissue massages, the best in the area! I'd gotten several massages from different massage specialists here, but once Gina has worked on my shoulders, I've been only coming back to see her. She literally works through each and every muscle wherever you ask her (especially on the back, neck and shoulders), and actually works on the knots and tight areas, not just pats like they do in other places. So to but it mildly these ladies do not know what they are doing. It seems like they just opened a store and decided massage was what they were going to do. I can honestly say the worst massage I have ever had. However the lady who did the massage was nice. The worst part happened upon checkout though.. They ask if you would like to tip as you are checking out. Which I didn't mind. I usually tip for these services, and it being the holidays I did still want to tip some for the nice lady. When I said to add $10 the lady checking me out says "How about $15?" I had to ask her to repeat herself. I've never been asked to tip additional, especially for a low end massage. This was a last minute booking because we were headed to the airport and needed some stress relief. They were not busy at all, so it's easy to see why now. I've been getting professional massages for over 15 years, so I've had plenty of male masseuses over the years. None like him!!! The massage started sensually, something about the vibe from the beginning was off. We walked into the place and the atmosphere was a COMPLETE turn off, but we had already bought a Groupon. The receptionist was rude, there was weird screaming when we walked in. We were both extremely uncomfortable. To start, I'm a shy person, and sometimes masseuse massage your butt, it is what it is. But when I tell you this man pulled my underwear past down my butt and started to grope me and grab my butt while he held me close to put his hard dick on me, it was disgusting!!! My fiancé was literally right next to me. I kept moving my arm away from him to get him to stop touching me, and I kept asking him to stop. He practically put his entire body on top of me. I've been going to Massage Spring Spa very regularly for 8 years. It is by far the best, most reliable, and consistent (not to mention affordable) massage option I've found in the DMV area. While the spa is not fancy, it is always clean and the staff, including front desk, are always polite and accommodating. I see Mr. Chu most often for massage, though have seen other masseuses (both male and female). He is incredibly skilled at identifying which muscles need extra attention and work and will spend the time to work on them, as opposed to many places that breeze through their typical massage routines. I've seen other comments on Yelp around sexual harassment or tip minimums and can attest I have never experienced anything in that realm. I've recommended Massage Spring Spa to many of my friends and would encourage anyone considering a visit to go for it! read more

I always call last minute and have never had a problem getting an appointment within a few hours on the same day. 2.) I've had several different massages by several different people, all great! Worst massage ever!!! We used Groupon for a couples Swedish massage. Pressure was mediocre. At the end of our massage they say, "minimum $20 tip each" What?! The total cost of the massage was $100. 40% tip.... I think not. The Groupon is their way of getting people in the door. They then try to make up for it for by asking for a ridiculous tip. Wow, wow, wow! I honestly can not say enough wonderful things about this place. I'm visiting from Boston and was in DIRE need of a massage. I saw the other 5 star ratings and thought I'd go find out what it was about. I was not disappointed. First off, called on a Sunday afternoon and was told there was an appointment with their best therapist Chu. Seeing the other review, I definitely jumped at this opening. Headed down, filled out the paperwork, and was taken to a lovely room. Got into the bed and WOW it was warm. That was such a great touch! Why hasn't any other place figured it out?! On to the massage. I had indicated that I needed firm pressure due to my extremely tense muscles. Chu worked closely with me to ensure the right pressure was being utilized. Additionally, he worked with me before the massage started to figure out how much time to delegate to my problem areas. He spent just the right amount of time on my neck, shoulders, and back. He worked on my arms and legs for just the right amount of time. Either way, I left feeling the best I had ever felt. I've traveled the world and have had massages everywhere else, but this was hands down the best massage I've EVER had. Next time I'm in town, it won't even be a question of where I go. First off I wanted to start by saying this was my first time here. I used to go to chu back when he was at a different spa. Sadly the economy is hard and aside from a few gift certificates i've gotten to other places, I have cut back on my massages. Then the other day I heard about 8 local spas shut down due to illegal activity and what not, and shocked to see this place on the list, which I knew chu owned or worked out. For the record, this spa was not and I repeat NOT one of the one's shut down for human trafficking. This is a legit spa owned by a great guy who i've known for years through massage work. I immediately got in contact with the spa to find out they were temporarily closed down due to a clerical error in regards to permitting. They had a permit for 2 years, but after a lull between renewing, it reverted back to its previous status as a barber shop. It was immediately refiled and opened right back up. The news changed their article to back this up by still includes them within their horrible story. I got a special as a new member / membership. They are clearly hurting due to misrepresentation from the news, which is beyond sad as this was truly a sad thing to happen to a great guy / business. I just visited yesterday and had another AMAZING massage by CHU. I can't speak for others there, but I can say, he is the best. I've had massages in many countries, from strong / weak people, guys / girls and not once have they gotten to his level. You can call bs on this all you want but I absolutely urge you to read my previous reviews. I only speak the truth and am clearly not afraid to say it. This place needs everyone's help. It's a spa like this that needs the local community to step back up and spread the good word. Book with chu, your life will change forever, and please make sure you tell him lee sent you. Most unprofessional place I have ever been, I was astounded. My "professional" masseuse continually exposed me while moving the sheet, despite my best efforts to remain covered (this happened on both of my two visits). When the session was done, I was heavily hocked for a tip, and when I did pay, I was told I should give more because of how good the session was. Not to mention having to continually listen to people talking in the hallways outside of the room. In all, I cannot believe this place is licensed and is somehow allowed to operate. I'm very disappointed in my visit. I asked for a sport massage concentrated at my upper back and shoulders where my trapezius muscles are. I wanted her to focus on the tension there I have been working on to release since my injury this past summer. Instead, she was running her elbows on my spine (bruising them in the process) and just going on surface of my skin hard but not in specific pressure points that most professional would do. And she was going quickly and not taking her time feeling out my body for those knots. If anything, she made my injuries come back from the worst massage. Not worth it at all. Wow, it's such a shame that my last time here would be such a disappointment. Let me just say, first of all, Mr. Chu is a very good masseur. I can't speak to the rest of the staff here, because I don't have any experience with them. As a fairly regular customer (at least every other week or so), I usually tip 30%, sometimes 40%, never less than 20%. Today was a 20% kind of day, and when I went to pay, I asked the front desk lady (the older one of the two who work there regularly) to put 20%. First, she pretended that she didn't hear me and just pointedly arched an eyebrow. I repeated myself, at which point she gave me the most self-righteous sneer, then proceeded to glare at me the *entire* time until I left, without a single other word like thanks or bye. Ok, front desk lady, lose the attitude. You weren't there. You don't know how it went down. What gives you the right to judge? And seriously, you're all pissy at a 20% tip that you're straight up ? I have been going to Massage Spring spa since they opened almost 2 years. I used to be able to go to any of their therapists and come out feeling great. To be fair I use to love this place! Affordable and skilled therapists. Before this week, the last time I visited was in the late Fall of 2014. This week I had a massage by Jenny. It was frustrating to say the least. There was no pattern, flow or symmetry to the areas she focused on. I felt like a piece of [dead] meat, she would lift my leg or arm then just drop them versus gently put them down. When I asked for a strong massage she simply dug an elbow into my muscles without any finesse I am getting frustrated just remembering this. After the massage I was more than nice enough to give a $10 tip which I didnt feel she deserved and she had the nerve to ask for more. This 1 star review is NOT related to the massage itself, it has to do with the poor customer service skills and lack of communication from the lady at the front desk. I called last weekend to book an appointment before purchasing a Groupon because I wanted to make sure they had availability soon before I purchased it. The lady said "don't bother buying the Groupon since we'll honor the price when you come." First of all, unless this is in writing, I have no reason to believe you actually would honor it because businesses can be shady by promising one thing on the phone but when you show up they don't honor it (this has happened to me before). Second, she didn't explicitly instruct me not to buy the Groupon, she basically just told me don't bother. I ended up buying it anyway just to be safe and have ease of mind that my massage was already paid for. I had a nice 60 minute hot stone massage today which was great but when it came time for payment, the lady at the front desk said/yelled, "I told you not to buy the Groupon. I told you not to buy it. You can't use it because we're busy." What??? Why is your business on Groupon in the first place if you're not going to accept my ALREADY PAID FOR coupon? There is no fine print (I triple checked) saying that this voucher can't be used on the weekends or on specific days and the woman was extremely rude about it and made it seem like it was my fault that i purchased a Groupon that was available for purchase! I ended up having to pay twice (once on Groupon and another time at the massage parlor) Update: I spoke with someone from Groupon (not that it's their fault, but I want them to know that there is a shady business scamming people). They were very understanding/apologetic and gave me a refund and said that they would do an investigation because Massage Spring Spa should not be treating customers this way. Chu is the man! If you're here for a posh and upscale experience, please turn around and walk back out that door. If you're here for a relatively relaxing, and expert reflexology massage, you've come to the right place. I've had my fair share of beatings (literally) from Chinese massage therapists, including ones overseas in Asia, and Chu is topnotch. He asks all the right questions and is genuinely interested in helping you relieve any kind of pain or aches you may feel. This place is totally mediocre. I went thru a groupon/living social (can't remember which) a few months ago and will never be going back. I get that it isn't a fancy spa, but this place was kind of gross- mismatched furniture, dust bunnies in the massage room and I was concerned about cleanliness. The woman who gave me a massage knew almost no English and it was difficult to communicate. She didn't ask me initially what my concerns were and just led me into a room and closed the door behind me. I had to go find her to ask if I should start face up or down. In the middle of the massage, she pulled down my underwear almost all the way and I had to grab them to pull them back up. It was completely uncomfortable and I was unable to enjoy the massage at all after that as I felt pretty violated. At one point, she left the room and I thought perhaps she was finished (early) but then she returned with a lukewarm itchy towel to put on my back (and there was something in the room that had "towel warmer" written on it!) totally odd. I said something at the front desk about my experience and she said something flippant like "yeah, the first time I got a massage here they did that and I thought it was a little weird too." I have been a loyal customer for over a year. The quality of massage is pretty good for the price. However, I was disappointed/felt deceived when over the phone I was told I had one pre-paid massage left on my membership (which is why I made an appointment. But only after receiving the massage was told the time had expired for me to use the credit and unless I renewed for another year would lose that $50 and have to pay another $60 for the massage I had just gotten. Felt duped that they hadn't been clear about that over the phone. If you get a membership, just remember you have to use it or lose it within the year. read more

Just had the most bizarre massage experience. First off, the receptionist had no idea what services they offer. She'd ask me what's that when I ask if they have it, followed by some mumbling of management may have made some changes. An hour later, I didn't get the massage I requested for and I have weird knots on my shoulder. I've been wanting to treat my mother and sister to a spa day and brunch for the past month but I am a bit picky and possibly over analyze when it comes to picking a new massage parlor because not only is a good massage pricey but you don't want to spend your time with a masseuse who can't get the kinks out right! The reviews on Massage Spring Spa was a bit mixed so I decided to give them a chance. It helped that their prices are quite attractive and they do various types of massages. When you enter it seems quite small because the front, waiting area is little but then when you walk down the hallway they have 9 rooms! All pretty good sizes too! We were running 10mins late and some places already start your clock regardless if you're there or not! They waited and I did the courteous thing by calling them 20mins prior to our scheduled time to let them know that we would be 10mins late. We filled out our health forms and I decided to be a big girl and get hot stones; I got burned at another place with the hot stones and have been scarred for the past 2yrs so I usually don't want to try them...well something made me feel comfortable so I took the plunge! My masseuse was Angela, my sister got Eddy (?), the male masseuse and mom's massage therapist was an older Asian lady but we cannot remember her name. Angela was perfect! I said I wanted someone strong who could get out my knots and kinks and she sure did! Prior to my appointment I had 9 total knots in my upper back/shoulders and she patiently got each one out. I have been working out a lot more and weight lifting so my muscles needed a good rub down. She was strong, very capable and had the hands of an angel. Right now, a day later I still feel so loose and she was nice enough to let the stones cool a little bit in her hands because she put them on my back. SHE WAS AMAZING! I will be back just for her. My sister said Eddy was an amazing massage therapist as well and he got all her knots out so well. She also wants to go back. Unfortunalty my mom said her lady was too gentle even though she told her to be more firm and all the different areas my sister and I talked about getting knots and kinks out my mom said she never even got massaged there. Sadly mom is not a fan but we had a really nice brunch after the spa so she was happy. I made a same day appointment and they made the necessary accommodations for my last minute request. I also made it to my appointment 5 mins late due to traffic but was given the full 60 minute massage despite being tardy. Helen was my masseuse; she was amazing! At first I thought her techniques were unconvential for a Swedish massage but she hit all the right spots with the right level of tension and attention. In my lifetime, I've had a lot of experience with high-end spas and run of the mill spas, and I must say the quality of massage here is certainly worth the bargain price! By the way, this is my second time at this spa and my first experience was equally as enjoyable, hence the reason I returned. Note: this is a no-frills spa but you don't feel that they're cutting corners on the quality of massage offered. UPDATE: I have visited the spa three times since I made the previous post and each of the subsequent visits was lackluster, leaving me feeling as though I had not gotten what I paid for. I found out about Massage Spring Spa initially through an online deal. I've been going to many different massage places and all have been bad experiences. The only time I ever had a good experience was at my acupuncture doctor's which I don't go to anymore. Thus, I was hoping to find someone good, if not better. At Massage Spring, I had two other masseuses before I found about about Chu. I can't even begin to explain how good he is. He actually listens to what you tell him and most of the time I don't even need to. I'm a competitive weightlifter so I need massages on a regular basis. I needed someone who understood exactly how your muscles function, how to relieve the pain and also offer advice for when you leave. Chu has done exactly that. He will let you know that he needs to spend more time in one area because it actually does need more attention! I've never had any issues with him and have always been 100% happy. The beds are heated and he always makes sure you are comfortable before doing anything. Chu has great communication and always exceeds my expectations. I've been a member of Massage Spring now for over a year. Prior to this place I never believed in joining a monthly massage program, but no other place has beat their service and price. I highly recommend Chu as a therapist. :) read more
