I came here today for my first time, and I was absolutely amazed. It's conveniently located right off the White Flint Metro and has plenty of parking available. I had a 10:00 appointment and I was a few minutes early. They took me right away! The room was wonderful and comfortable. I was impressed with how clean and luxurious it felt compared to other places I've been, and the prices were very fair (especially compared to other places in Bethesda). My massage therapist was the best. She worked out all of my knots. I was truly impressed with her pleasant demeanor and and thorough work on my right back muscles. Short Version: they are very affordable (you can get the groupons deal without buying it which means more money for them). Been twice a loved both massages, second was probably the best massage of my life. It's not much to look at from the outside but the inside is nice enough and clean and the service is great. details: first time was great. We were 5 mins late and instead of just docking us the time they graciously said they'd honor the group on price a second time (didn't purchase it either time) and add ten minutes onto a second massage. Got that massage today. Had a male masseuse, he was great and very respectful. He asked before just massaging my face, head and butt. Lol. He had good technical and pressure, and really focused on the parts with tension. I would truly say one of the best massages I've ever had. I would recommend this place to anyone. I was very disappointed with my experience at Massage Spring. When my partner and I booked our massage, we told them about the Groupon special. The price is normally $109 for a 60-minute couples massage, but a special $25 off was being offered, making the price $84. On the phone, the owner told us not to buy the Groupon and that he would honor the price. The massage itself was mediocre at best. My partner had a decent experience, but I had light to medium pressure throughout (despite asking for firm, and asking her twice to be firmer). I now also am in pain in my mid back, something I've never had before. So after a bad experience, I was told that they would not honor the extra discount and would charge us the full $109. I told him that's not what he agreed to, but he said that's all he would do and we could get the extra $25 off if we scheduled for 3 weeks out. I will never, ever be back to this establishment. I was skeptical about making reservations here. We usually go to places that charge 3 time the price here for an hour of deep tissue massage. Last week though was hell for my back and especially my calves and none of the expensive places would give me a last minute Saturday appointment. So, due to lack of better options and desperately in need of relief I booked an appointment for myself and my husband - if I go down he goes down with me, right?! Well, guess what? It was AMAZING!! I told my masseur to work on my neck and calves and he did my entire back for me concentrating on my pain points. Since it was a deep tissue I dint feel the relief immediately and remained sore but 1 day and tons of water later - pain is gone! They are good! Not that I want people to know because I'll be struggling to get an appointment again! I did not see dirty towels and my husband enjoyed his massage too. I'm pregnant - and wow, I'm feeling pains and aches that I never felt before - my back, neck, shoulders, legs, arms. I'm so happy about being pregnant - and I know "baby" is worth all the pain I'm feeling. I just got to the point that I needed some relief from the discomfort - but I was so hesitant to trust anyone with a pregnancy massage. I read the reviews on yelp, and within days I also had several personal friends recommend Chu as a massage therapist, so it seemed like this was the right answer, and I decided to go for it. I am so glad I went in for a massage with Chu. He was careful and attentive regarding all my pregnancy questions. He explained his training and technique - and felt completely comfortable, and appreciated that he was willing to talk with me and explain what what hurting and why - and how the massage could help, and what I could do (myself) also. This massage was the best decision. It reset my energy levels, completely relaxed me so I could sleep at night, the pain was gone, and I was able to enjoy the week with my family (I was in town visiting family in maryland) - and we were able to celebrate my pregnancy - - and because of this massage I was energetic and happy again. I called the next day, and booked another massage with Chu (for the next week) - so that the day before I was to fly back to Arizona I could have one more massage. - I had two pregnancy-massages while I was in town, and it was the best part of my trip to maryland. I made an account just to get this out there: the customer service was nonexistent, they will lie and argue to pressure you to get a massage. My boyfriend was going to surprise me with a massage with this Chinese run business. He thought it would be easier for me to communicate with the masseuse or something. The ticket was bought through Groupon, it was a nice deal, $50 for an hour with Chu. That's the guy many people said were good on reviews. So the appointment was made with Chu specifically. After riding the metro for an hour, we were told that: Chu does not accept Groupon, and that Chu was not even here right now. No matter what my boyfriend said or explained how he got the deal, she just kept repeating the same thing: Chu DOESN"T accept Groupon! So I tried to explain in Chinese hoping that she might understand. She then just kept changing the topic to how she had this newer person Helen that's also kinda good. She shoved me the form to fill out and kept saying I should just do the massage with Helen. She kept ignoring questions related to Groupon in our conversation as well. Eventually Chu did arrive, to my surprise he was even worse. Both of them circled me and tried to talk me into getting a massage with Helen. Chu even tried to guilt me into doing that by saying stuff like "How could you be so not understanding? I thought Chinese people are supposed to help each other out and respect their elders." At that point I was beyond angry since they kept trying to put off the initial problems that we were trying to clarify and instead focused on getting business. And like I said the customer service was apparently not a thing that Massage Spring Spa does. I wanted to walk out the door, but the front desk lady tried to rip the form out of my hand before I could leave. I wanted to take it with me because I had my name, phone number, address and signature on it. She was yelling that the form was the businesses property, which is weird and ridiculous because it just asked which area you'd like them to focus on, and if you've had surgeries before. Ask for JENNY. I've always requested men bc of their strength during massages, but she has such good pressure! She will even customize your pressure or massage based on how you're feeling. We decided to wait out an afternoon thunderstorm by going here for a massage. They had one person available immediately, or said we could both come back in an hour. We decided to go work in the nearby Starbucks and come back after an hour. Everyone was nice and accommodating, the space seemed clean and organized, and I thought my masseuse did a good job, though the person I was with felt that it hadn't been hard enough. Beware...Groupon scammers. Nowhere on the Groupon does it say "only good for Monday through Thursday". I called today to request a reservation for Saturday, and a very irritated sounding man informed me that no groupon reservations Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Why is that not listed with all the other limitations on the Groupon? I'll eventually get there just to use it at some point, but that will be the last time I set foot in the place. Poor service and shady practices. I'm reporting this to Groupon as well. Hmm, what happened to the review where the person was questioning if these massage therapists are licensed? Because I am questioning it too. Nice enough people, nice enough place. But, my masseuse clearly had not gone to any professional massage school. Not to say she hadn't had training of some sort. One hour massage consisted of 50 minutes face down, 10 minutes face up. 2/3 of the time spent massaging my back (I did not specify that I needed any specific body part worked on). Not to say it wasn't relaxing, but when you've had a number of professional massages, you get to know the routine. Most do almost the same massage, give or take. This wasn't it. And, for the first time in my life, the sheet was lowered...as in, past my butt. If that wasn't shocking enough, there were 2 squirts of massage oil followed quickly by--you guessed it--a bare butt massage. Now, I'm pretty comfortable with my body, so it was more puzzling than traumatizing, but I can think of at least one friend who would have been permanently scarred by that. I keep falling for these low-cost massages and have finally come to realize that I'll have to cough up the money and go back to Red Door if I want a massage from a graduate from a professional massage school. The decor is pretty decent. I've been to worse, but I've definitely been to better. They tried for a modern Westernized take on the whole Asian vibe, and for the most part succeeded. The atmosphere is sorely lacking. The "spa" is in a strip shopping center on Rockville Pike and does not have the ambience of a place to relax and destress. As a first time patron, I was asked to fill out a detailed two-page form that specifically included places to express areas for the therapist to focus, whether you had recent surgeries, etc. My therapist either did not read the form or did not understand any of the information on it. The massage did not include one of the areas I specifically requested she address and focused on everywhere but where I wanted her to focus. She also tried to manipulate my knee despite my statin on the form that I had had knee surgery two months before. The place has poor ambience to start. I was given a one hour massage in a room towards the back. I could hear the other ladies talking to each other in the back room through most of my massage. Needless to say, that was not welcome! The masseuse's hands felt like sand paper on my back (even with the massage oil). The masseuse also pushed hard on a cyst on my back insisting it was a knot. Due to the poor massage experience, I only tipped 10%. When I gave her the money, she gave me a face and started to yell something in a foreign language. As a Chinese native, I have got used to acupressure massage as a culture and medical legitimate thing ever since a kid. Whenever I fly back, I will try to have many massages as I can, because back there very skillful therapists are a lot easier to find and a lot more inexpensive. So back to the point, I have been searching for massage place a while ago around DMV area. Because I have been had should neck and back problems for a long time. I have tried swedish, thai, and acupressure massages in around 10 diff places trying to find the diamond in the rough. Cuz honestly, once you have had it in China and you have had so many, you know what your expectation of a great massage is. I guess i just stepped in this place by chance, I was on my way back from Atlantic city, the long drive made me tired and desperate for some body relaxation. So I started to search for groupon deals, I was NOT too impressed by the yelp reviews, cuz usually the places I go to would have at least 4 star for me to want to throw in more than 100 bucks to give it a try. But the offer was just too irresistible , 39 dollars for an hr massage???!!!, So I thought it was ok even if I may not like it too much. It could be just a one time thing, no big deal. I have to admit Chu is extremely experienced and quite knowledgeable and he is the best I have found so far. he is more like a chiropractor than a massage therapist, and he identified my problematic area in the first 10 mins he saw me and gave me a customized therapy session, quite like seeing the doc. I was also surprised to hear from him that one or 2 massages per month would be sufficient for most ppl, and NO1 important thing is to keep an active life and regular exercise, rather than relying on massage therapist. He is not trying to sell but more like educating the basics, which I definitely appreciate. Also he knows exactly where the knots and stiff muscles are without me telling him where I would like him to apply more pressure and spend more time, which is also a big big plus. Only the tops one would be able to do that, like totally in sync with your body situation. All in all, I am giving him 5 stars and will try to book another app with him in Feb. read more

Worst massage ever. My boyfriend bought a Groupon for this place and we decided to give it a shot since there were several positive reviews. I was hesitant because I read it closed recently, but since it reopened, I figured that the owner must have fixed all of the issues. Clearly not because there is NO way my massage therapist was licensed. My boyfriend enjoyed his massage (he was the lucky one), but here was my experience. I completed an intake form, listing the kind of massage I wanted and my problem areas. I also specifically wrote that I suffer from regular migraines since the form asked health related questions. I confirmed with the front desk rep that I wanted a sports massage. We were guided to the back of the place where we were hurriedly assigned massage therapists that quickly peaked at our intake forms. My massage therapist spoke less than 5 words to me. She seemed like she knew exactly what to do so I didn't push because her English didn't seem strong. Anyhow, it sounds like I got the exact therapist as some others here. She paid no attention to my listed pain points aside from back. I was on my stomach most of the time (80%). She spent a lot of time on my back and then proceeded to massage my uncovered upper butt (I was horrified and too embarrassed to run out of the room and I kept thinking "maybe things will get better"). She stroked one arm at a time, leaving each arm to dangle over the massage bed after stroking instead of putting it back on the bed (never had that happen before). She didn't massage my calves or my quadriceps or my hands or my forearms, which I listed as my pain points. In fact, aside from my back, she didn't really massage anything else the way I had requested (it was more light stroking & tapping). I thought this was a sports massage!? Worst of all, towards the end, she massaged my head and face, which I did NOT ask for. She rubbed my scalp extremely hard and then continued to bang on it (no joke!!!). It was some sort of the hard tapping/banging that some therapists will do to your limbs after massaging. Did she not read that I get migraines!!?? I ended up leaving with a huge headache and I was in too much shock to say anything. I just shook my head at my boyfriend upon walking out to the receptionist area. I went here yesterday for a massage since I've been experiencing a lot of tenderness/soreness from some recent yard work. My massage was very rough and not relaxing; I was in pain through a lot of the massage. I left in a lot of pain which at first, I hoped was just due to how sore I was but I woke up this morning and it isn't any better. I had a massage on Sunday morning with someone from another Massage Place which was absolutely horrid. I asked for deep tissue as I was very tight and getting headaches and had some mobility issues. 1 hour wasted. I called Chu on Monday and he was able to squeeze me in. in 90 min, he was able to focus on my upper neck and back (where I needed it) and still work in some of the legs I had requested. He's great with his time and he's very attentive to your concerns. His technique is deep but he's a solid practitioner. He knows the body very well and knows exactly how to get muscles to release. I still have a credit at the last place but i'm thinking of just letting it go. Giving someone else gratuity for a massage that sucks is totally not worth it. Save your money - and visit Chu. My wife was visiting Maryland and thought she would try this spa out based on the reviews on Yelp. All that can be said is that I suspect that the people who posted these reviews were either extremely fortunate with their experience or have never been to a proper spa before. Points of concern: The room and massage table were FREEZING cold The masseuse did not speak english When asked the make of the creams and oils being used, no one could answer the question and my wife was told that they were "good cream". For someone who is allergic to a lot of products, this answer was not sufficient. There were no certificates posted which leads us to believe that the therapists may not be qualified (and based on my wife's experience, the manner in which the massage was conducted (in the brief time she was there) seems to infer that this is in fact the case) The pictures posted are misleading - the spa is not modern looking or comfortable at all - the room had a musty smell to it. As well, for visitors unfamiliar with the area, it is not located in the cleanest part of Rockville. Ultimately, she decided enough was enough and trusted her instincts and left after about 10 minutes. read more

I had been to this location previously and the massage was so-so. The therapist did not speak to me prior to the massage and when I requested specific areas to be massaged, I was ignored. I accidentally purchased a Groupon for this same location, but made an appointment anyway. When I scheduled the appointment, I told the scheduler that I had a Groupon. I just went to the location for my appointment. They informed me that I could not use my Groupon since I had already used one with them. I asked what I was to do with it, and I was told to cancel it and just pay them since the massage cost the same as the Groupon! I asked for more pressure, so she applied force DIRECTLY on my joint, bones, and most dangerously the spine with her elbow and insisted that it was muscle knots. I got chills all over my body during the massage, just to show how awful it was. I told her my quads and traps were the problematic area, but she didn't seem to understand any kinesiological terms. Big red flag. Oh, then she managed to also massage my forehead and cheekbones... I didn't know if there were any muscle knots there nor did I remember to request it, but hey, at this point, I was glad I got out without any bone damage. The facility itself is pretty clean and fairly nice for what it looks like from the outside. However, the receptionist and others who work there were not. In fact, when I walked in, they were bargaining on the phone with Comcast about their high internet fee loudly. Awkward. This is decent place if you want a cheap light rub without any crazy requests like myofascial or sports massage, since the masseurs are clearly clueless of what to do. A MUST GO! Best massage I've had! I don't understand where anything negative is coming from. We went in today for a couples massage. It was a last minute decision and after some quick google searches I found this gem. We called and were luckily able to get a same day appointment. When we arrived we were greeted by a couple of friendly staff and each given a sheet to fill out (the usual on medical history, problem or focus areas, etc). Promptly after we were done with our questionnaire we were offered water and lead to the massage room. The masseuses were prompt and quick to arrive. Our MASSAGE WAS AMAZING! I wished I remembered their names! JUST SO RELAXING, exactly what I needed. This specific day was raining and we could hear the rain hitting the roof of the building (not too loud just soothing like it was audio put in on purpose). After my initial review, Mr. Chu contacted me on yelp offering me another massage. If not for anything else, they value their customers and it really shows. My session with Mr. Chu was great. He asked me exactly where my trouble areas were and listened carefully as I demonstrated on my back. He performed a custom massage which consisted of hot stones, Swedish and deep tissue, targeting the areas that I mentioned needed attention. He was extremely gentle and asked if I was okay every time he applied pressure. I'll def come back for a follow up visit as I still have areas that need to be worked through. read more

This is a great deal for $49. Though the facilities are not top quality, it is clean and comfortable. I asked for a deep massage to get the knots out of my back and neck, and the masseuse got every last knot out. It was probably the best massage I've gotten. They also said that there was a "10 dollar tip minimum for each massage therapist" which I was unhappy with given my dissatisfaction with my massage therapist.
