I subscribed to their lawncare services, inclusive of weed control, pest control, fungus control, fertilization, aeration, etc. After 2 years, issues with me lawn were not only continuing, they got worse, to the point where I had to spend hours manually picking my own weeds from the lawn. Meanwhile, they offered nothing to fix the damage their inadequacies caused. For owners with Saint Augustine grass and an HOA, I highly discourage their services. They do not care and do will not do the needful when there are issues. When I cancelled for 'inadequate servicing' they were sure to force in one last visit for their '30 day cancellation policy'. Looking to change after 20 years of so-so lawncare. Promised plugs, but I had to resod many areas. Weeds control only if I call.

The worst. My lawn looks like crap this spring. I was told it was due to them treating it right before the freeze. The response I received was next to nothing. Last fall I had places that were bare and they said they were going to plug them. That didn't happen. This company has been on a screaming route down hill for the last couple of years. Large area of front yard was dead and had to be replaced. Wouldn't have gotten this bad if Massey had checked our sprinkler. They "fixed"the area with 20 plugs. I had to add 40 more myself. They said part of the problem was that we were getting service every other month and if we signed up for monthly these problems wouldn't occur. Not true! I hired Massey services to maintain my irrigation system. They charged me over $800 in January to fix the lines, repair rotors and fix sprinkler heads. I had a sprinkler head that needed repair recently and I called telling the serviceman which head to repair. He came out, did nothing and sent me a new invoice for over $320 to again repair the lines, fix rotors and install new sprinkler heads. Knowing Massy and seeing their reviews, I am sure this will not come as a surprise to many, but STAY AWAY! Two years ago, as a new Villager, I signed up for their service bundle of termite, pest control, sprinkler maintenance, and lawn/tree/shrub fertilizing. I pre-paid for a one-year contract & trusted them to fulfill their end of the deal. 6 months into the contract, I discovered multiple sprinkler heads broken and misaligned despite them "servicing" my sprinkler system less than two weeks prior. I pulled their invoices and reconciled their visits with the recordings from my security cameras. The person who "serviced" my sprinklers did not even get out of his truck, yet documented that my system was fine. When I compared the lawn/shrub/tree service, again there were times the person never got out of their truck except to place the sign in my yard. However, the pest control/termite person did actually get out of their truck every time & did the work their statement reflected. In March when it was time to renew the services, I elected to only renew the pest control and termite service. Again, I prepaid for a full year of service. Despite electing to not renew the lawn/shrub/tree & sprinkler service, Massy states they continued to send these people to my home to perform services I did not request. I was able to match their invoices to my security cameras and twice Massy employees came by and serviced my property. I was billed $202.45 & threatened with the account being turned over to collections if I didn't pay because it was my fault I did not specifically tell them not to perform the services. Essentially I was extorted by Massy. I have since sent Massy payment for the $202.45 as well as a certified letter canceling all services and revoking permission for their employees to he on my property. I would encourage all Villagers both old and new to avoid Massy Services and share this story with others. Hopefully you will learn from my mistake & not have to learn this lesson on your own. read more

I called to schedule a sprinkler apt and made the apt . not only did the guy not show up but he forgot to show up and I wasted my time for two hours waiting on him . Let me preface this by saying that I have not ever had a service agreement with Massey. I had heard too many bad things about them from other locals in the area. They are a huge presence in The Villages. However, I have been witness to how this company takes advantage of their Senior clientele. My sweet 84 year old neighbor was over charged and had the hardest time cancelling her contract. She also had an issue that went above and beyond normal preventive bug and lawn service. This company convinced her into a $3,000.00 contract for the said service. I entered into the same contract with a competitor company a few months earlier who only charged us $900.00. I was very disappointed with their service. The salesman came out, inspected the sprinklers to be repaired, gave me an estimate and I paid for the service. The repairman came out and did nothing, left me a note which said call him. I have tried calling him, no response. I called the salesman, no response. I called the company, no response. I can't get an answer from anyone about why my sprinkler heads were not repaired. I am going to try again today but as for their services I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

The woman asked for my address, but I would not tell her, seeing as I just wanted to know why they called. Techs are usually great. Local office as well as corporate in Orlando do not respond to letters. Only send bills. This should tell you something about customer service. They're interested in one thing. Was a customer for years but the sign-up/re-sign-up fee, etc. are just another indication. Not worth the money and being ignored. I've been a Massey Customer for about 4/5 years. I have always gotten immediate care. I have both pest and lawn maintenance plans. I have had ant problems and Massey rep came immediately and treated same day as my call but (I called early)... I am not saying to expect it same day- but I was pleased. My irrigation has been a bit of a job to trouble shoot times and ranges and if I should use same sprinkler heads or upgrade. My Massey go to guy is Tommy. He walks property and really puts his best effort forward. I feel confident with his knowledge that I don't have to be there and he will check my lawn sprinklers from outside the garage. He knows a lot about the seasons and when watering my lawn should be scaled back, he sets my sprinkler system for me - I didn't know but he told me I have a water conservative sprinkler system -(uses less water) He knows all about different types of sprinkler heads and can recommend (fairly) if it needs replacement or not. - he knows more then I could possibly say. He's an integral part of Massey and I'm so grateful for his service. I called to have a sprinkler addressed that I thought was mine but it belongs to the city on outskirts of my property- he was so busy he couldn't come till tomorrow. To my delight he finished early and showed up today anyway. Like I said, Tommy is ahmazing and a great asset to Massey lawn and pest care. read more

We have been having nonstop ant problem that we are basically told they're so small they're almost impossible to stop. The worst of it is you say your adhering to CDC guideline for Covid and this knucklehead shows up to my 85 year old parents house with no mask and proceeds to stand side by side next to my dad. I had to tell him twice to back up. How dare you show such little if any respect for your customers. As long g as you get your money. We still have ants. If you are a "snowbird" then you should use anyone but Massey for their lawn service. We paid in advance for a year of service that included trimming, weeding, cutting the lawn. For over a month we have been written up because none of this has been done. Multiple calls are required to contact anyone. They then claim they have done the work and our friends and neighbors take pictures showing that the work either was not done or done so poorly that we continue to be written up (and rightly so I may add). Previous emails indicate that getting a refund or money back is impossible. Please do the Villages a favor and do not use Massey. My thought by using them we would contribute to the beauty of the Villages by maintaining our property. The only thing we apparently are contributing to is Massey's coffers. read more

I have had more trouble with Masseys irrigation services. Every time that they adjust my sprinklers, they miss coverage on some spots on the lawn which leads to the lawn dying. Fortunately when we have a rainy season, it doesn't show up. However, now that we are in the dry season, we have brown spots forming. I am seriously thinking about quitting their irrigation service, in fact, probably all the services that I have with them except termite and bug problems. I got criticized the other day for writing (slamming) companies with bad reviews. Well, I will say that I usually don't write a review when I have a good experience with a company, so there's that. However, Massey, a company that's been seeding my lawn for the last several months came to my house to inspect my irrigation system which was leaking at the control box. "Have you heard about our irrigation special" he said before even looking to see what the issue was. I said "well, let's find out what's wrong first, then we can discuss it." He spent some time inspecting the system then informed me that I needed a new control box (the one in the ground with all the valves) and that the cost would be $800. "Would you like to pay by check or credit card?" he said. I said "let me think about it." When he left I called a competitor and they quoted a price of $400. Guess I shouldn't be surprised, but really, $800? So now, not only am I going to use their competitor for the new control box, but I'm also going to use them to service my lawn. If I could give a negative star value, I certainly would. AVOID this company at all costs! They will NEVER refund your money, even when you follow all cancellation policies. We finally had to file a credit card dispute in order to receive our refund. In addition, their customer service is horrific. When you call to discuss your account, everything needs to be discussed with the Manager. You are promised the Manager will call you back, however you never receive a call. And you call back and the cycle continues all over. STAY CLEAR. VERY UNSCRUPULOUS. If you're looking for lawn and shrub care and/or irrigation and pest control needs, do NOT consider Massey Services. My husband and I made that mistake. We signed on with Massey (based on a friend's recommendation) for the first year in our brand new home. Our yard began to show bare spots in the summer and then got progressively worse; the grass turned brown and grey and then died. Prior to that, their technician had recommended that we water twice per week, which we did. I called Massey in September to request that someone with authority come out to see how badly our lawn had deteriorated. Their technician arrived and said he'd 'gotten a bit too aggressive with the weed killer.' After that, a supervisor arrived and I asked that the sod be replaced. He replied that the problem was that the front yard was too dry, while the back yard had been watered too much! He blamed our sprinkler system! He wanted to replace our year-old (previously inspected) sprinkler heads, which we believed were working just fine. Finally, he offered to 'go half' with us on the sod replacement, which amounted to over $1500, or about $770 on our part. My husband then got several quotes for sod, just for comparison sake, and we learned that we could have the entire yard replaced (Allen's Sod) for $625, making the Massey offer look ridiculous! We had our sprinkler heads checked again from MICO, and as before, they were working appropriately. We wrote a letter to Massey, detailing our complaint. The manager called us soon thereafter and said they would replace our entire lawn AND sprinkler system 'at no cost to us.' We called back the next day to say 'OK' and that we'd give them another chance with our yard. He said they WOULD replace the sod and guarantee it for a year -- with just one condition: WE pay for new sprinkler heads or they would NOT guarantee it. We were totally disgusted with this so-called 'offer,' and needless to say, we haven't spent another penny with Massey Services. read more

They do not go from date to date for a year either. Ends month previous. Service???? Pest was OK but stay away from lawn care. TERRIBLE. Massey has always done a great job for me. I have their pest control, irrigation, plant & shrub and termite. Their customer service is second to none. If i do see even one bug, they come that day for free - but I rarely see one. Their prices are competitive - there are cheaper places but my neighbors tell me they don't do as well. I know some people wanted to cancel right away (instead of cancel after 30 days) but their service is still excellent and cancellation policy is part of the contract, so it seems sad to give them one star when they are so excellent. Their people are extremely nice, do a great job on scheduled services and come out for free if you ever have questions or concerns about any of the services. read more

Canceled the lawn care and requested full refund, two months is all I received, then they send out a general manager when I keep requesting my full refund as stated in their ads. I made a BIG mistake going with Massey. My lawn was looking good and I started Massey. There was an area next to the driveway that wasn't great, but over there I didn't much care. My main lawn had a sm/med area that was brown and the weeds were increasing throughout the yard. It appeared that the tech was treating the front lawn w/weed killer but not the back yard. A sales rep convinced me that there was a special treatment (Command) that would bring back the grass in the brown areas and next to the driveway. I (like a fool) paid over $1200 extra for this treatment. Nothing! I complained, they re-treated. Nothing! In fact, the yard became more brown and bare. My sm/med brown patch in the front became very large and increased dramatically. I complained. They said chinch bugs. I asked weren't they the ones treating my lawn for this. Yes, they were. Why did the tech treating the lawn not see the damage getting bigger?? Funny, the bugs appeared after the special (Command) treatment. The supervisor said he thought the same, that the bugs appeared after Command. They are treating for the bugs and have put in some plugs, but my yard looks terrible. I should at least be given a refund for the $1200 extra that did nothing but bring bugs. read more
