For a long time I saw the kids program from a distance even though I train with the two people who coach the kids (and love training with them). When I had my best friend's 5yo stay with me for two weeks though, I got a very good look at how the kids program runs and really want to share that experience to help others looking for a good, safe, supportive environment for their kids to blow of steam and gain self-confidence. There are five class options per week: 2 days of jiu jitsu, 1 day of wrestling, and 2 days of kick boxing. Coach Matt and Coach Cavemen start the kids with warmups and stretches, then do games and some time focused on technique. The kids have an absolute blast, are encouraged to engage each other respectfully, and are rewarded with high fives and the chance to earn class champion. D was a little uncertain at first. He was visiting so he didn't know the other kids except for one he met right before his first class. Over the course of the next two weeks both coaches were able to draw him out of his shell until he was just as enthusiastic as the other kids. They were aware of his body language and often realized that when he just stood there not participating it was because he was unsure how to do whatever they were doing, so one of them would come over and walk him through whatever it was. Both coaches are great with the kids and have a ton of patience (on top of both being excellent at the techniques they are teaching). There are two age group options and both groups are full of kids who clearly love being there. I've been training here for over a year and am really glad that I got a chance to experience another aspect of the gym that I hadn't paid close attention before. I would definitely recommend this as a great experience for kids.

His dojo is well equipped, for example, with three heavy bags, coaching mitts, air shields, and a large gymnastic mat. It is quite acceptable there to either go through the belt program progressing to black belt, or just physical training. Training is individualized or, as indicated, in small groups. Sensei Hutch is very flexible about scheduling. Fees are very reasonable. Altogether it's been a rewarding experience, good for physical and mental health.

I wanted to broaden my training and take a hiatus but still drop back in for open mats and the occasional class. Instead of acting like a mature business owner, Deacon Mike got physical and escorted me out. They come off as kind honest people until you mention training at other schools. The reason I'm going out of my way to write this review is to warn people to steer clear of this twisted academy. A couple of the many reasons I'm leaving a one star review because this school operates under an alternative agenda. They take advantage of kind people. The academy is not inclusive. I have witnessed misogynistic characteristics and anti LGBTQ comments by the owner, Mike. Two of their instructors have domestic violence history, one of which runs the kids BJJ program. To leave the school you must turn in a letter stating so. I handed my letter to leave the school to the owner, who reacted in a hot headed way. Meaning, this is when my jacket was grabbed and I was thrown out. This is after 6 years at the school. The owner pushes his religious beliefs on people, and deflects issues as somebody else's fault. He likes to label others' problems as having "victim mentality" and not his prerogative. He is immature, manipulative, and acts like he cares until you might decide to train elsewhere.

Kin-Tora is one of THE best martial arts center in Buffalo, hands down. Established in the 1970s,…read morethe family who has owned and operated this place have been practicing judo since they were very young. Kin-Tora is rather unique, in that it is run in the style of a club, as opposed to a for-profit dojo. As well as judo, Kin-Tora also offers three other styles: Danzan-ryu Jujutsu, Ryukyu kempo, and Wadokai aikido. There are judo classes for both children and adults. The other three styles are more geared towards those 18 and older; however, the aikido class will take teen students (15 and up) with the head instructor's permission. There is also a gym room on the upstairs level with striking bags, a variety of weights, treadmills, and ellipticals. Kin-Tora is probably the most affordable martial arts center in WNY, given that it is only $85 a month, and that fee grants you access to the entire facility, and you may also take as many classes as you would like. They will gladly allow you to try a class for free to see if it something you would wish to further pursue; there are no contracts, no pressure to "sign on the dotted line." They also offer gi (uniform) rentals for $2 per class for those who don't wish to purchase their own uniform, or for those who just want to try a class or two. They also have uniforms for purchase on site at only $45 for a complete set, and they are of extremely high quality. What's best is that everyone at Kin-Tora is extremely kind, welcoming, and encouraging. It doesn't matter if you have 20 years of martial arts experience or none, all skill levels are welcome. I only just started aikido here but I am extremely impressed with how amazing everyone is here, and I plan to keep coming back for the foreseeable future!

I have known and trained with Joe for a long time and I have trained at a few different schools. Karate Joe's is the most well rounded school that teaches a few different styles. Therefore, they had us all take off our shoes but keep our socks on. I'd also recommend wearing gym clothes, as you'll want the flexibility and may start to break a sweat too! They provided lightsabers to use during the class and taught us the basics- proper grip, footwork, and five moves. There were 2 instructors and 6 students, this was a great ratio as the instructors helped us individually with the movements. They were also very patient with us which was nice since some of the sequences were complex. At the end of the training they gave us a demo of more complex sequences and discussed what each phase of their coursework covers if we'd like to sign up for a membership. Overall- had a great experience and I would highly recommend checking them out!

It's definitely a tough form of exercise, whips you in shape. But it's limited in a sense. You go from station to station and in half hour you're all done. You've got cardio plus weight training in one. Great time saver. That's a plus. Down side. Very small, cramped area. I didn't feel comfortable. You're surrounded by other folks sweating but is not a group exercise. It's more like "parallel play" in childhood developmental talk LOL. Each kid in the room is doing his own thing, at his own station, but no interaction. Costly. Membership was nearly $700-1K for a year. Plus in the already cramped exercise area, the owner's dog was roaming near the members working out. Unhygienic. This world has literally gone to the dogs! I mean really, no kidding. I ended up joining LA fitness. More traditional gym, variety of choices - group classes, equipment, weights, cycling, swimming/ aqua exercise etc. Membership for a year under $400. Locations across the US to use.
