The team started in the morning around 9am or so and finished at about 6pm - for all of the work they had to do and having to access the cooling unit in a tight space in the attic, they accomplished a lot in a day's work. To Frank Gay's credit, they came out quickly and determined that the capacitor had blown. I was relieved because it was an older unit. However, the service tech insisted that my machine needed to be replaced. He said it was in critical condition and showed me the readout. He said it was over-amping and wouldn't last two months. Fortunately, they had a "special" going on for new units. Sounded like a sales pitch so I took a picture of the readout he showed me and uploaded it to ChatGPT. It said not to trust those numbers because they were way off and it looked like the probes were reversed. ChatGPT encouraged me to call someone else. So I did. Chilly Billy's came out today - two days later. The AC guy was named Nas - very easy to talk to and smart. He ran the same tests and determined that while my unit is pretty old - it's working fine. The numbers were well within manufacturer guidelines. They said they would not recommend replacing the unit. So, I learned I can't trust Frank Gay. I cancelled my maintenance membership and found a new HVAC company in Chilly Billy. I'm uploading the photos. One is Frank Gay. The other is Chilly Billy two days later. Trust is a big deal.

Then they vented the refrigerant into the atmosphere (see video) and quoted me $16,000-$24,000 for a replacement system. The next day, a reputable company found the real issue was actually minor, and none of those components were bad. However, because ACE had already vented the refrigerant, and my system used an older type, I ended up having to replace it anyway. The more reputable company replaced the entire system--unit, air handler, everything--for just over $10,000--about *HALF* of ACE's quote. Bottom line: ACE Solves It All turned a simple fix into a full replacement and quoted double the price. Their efforts to make a sale cost me more than $10,000. Think very, very carefully before letting them touch your HVAC system.

Within 2 years after installation, we discovered several major shortcuts taken by the installers: they failed to install a safety switch (which led to a leak and ceiling damage) and didn't install the correct breaker for the unit. Each of these led to costs for us to repair. Now, we are dealing with a faulty coil and another $1500 repair bill. The most disappointing part is the lack of accountability. We shared all this information with Dave. It took 2 days to return a call then another week for him to say they wouldn't do anything to make it right. Instead they simply said we should have called them for repairs. Well when the ceiling is leaking, or the house is hot you call who can be there in 15 minutes. Not a company that will call back later. They may be nice people, but based on my experience, they don't stand by their work and their installation quality is poor. During that visit, their new, inexperienced technician caused our A/C to stop working completely. The unit had been working perfectly until he touched it. It was 94°F in our Florida home. We got sick from the heat, and our dog vomited multiple times. Their manager Michael gave us a small portable unit that barely helped. When Michael came out on Monday, he said the compressor had burned out and we'd need either a refrigerant conversion or a new unit. At first, he offered us a new unit for $7,000. Then, after a long call with his boss Jeremy, the price suddenly jumped to nearly $12,000. When we refused, Graham spent days arguing with us and insisting it wasn't their fault. They kept saying the unit "was too old" and that it was "impossible" their technician caused the damage--even though technician-caused issues are very common. That argument is unfair. The A/C was working just fine until their tech arrived. Eventually, they said they'd replace the compressor for free--but admitted it still wouldn't work unless we paid $7,000 for a conversion. They knowingly installed a useless compressor, left us with no A/C for 11 days, and tried to push the $7,000-$12,000 cost onto us. Totally dishonest and irresponsible. The owner is such a gentleman and he explained everything and went above and beyond what other contractors have done for us. The price we were quoted was exactly what we paid, even though he had to do some unexpected things. One unexpected thing was to change the placement of the air filter from the outside unit to the return duct inside the house. That entailed the owner special ordering a new return duct cover so it could accommodate the new filter, but no additional charge to us. The total price we paid ending up paying was $2000 to $3000 less than what two other companies quoted us. I would highly recommend AJ's for heating and air conditioning and also for duct cleaning.
