There is nothing remarkable about this office and if you don't have an afternoon to waste, go elsewhere. I arrived 5 minutes early to my most recent appointment per request and was left waiting in the examination room without contacts for over an hour. To make matters worse, my exam got off to a very unprofessional start. I was literally asked "how many fingers am I holding up?" by the technician from across the room. When I protested and asked to move on to the routine examination, I was told this silliness was standard in their office. I haven't seen such a thing during previous visits here nor in 20 years of visiting other optometry clinics. With all of the other offices in the Austin area that accept the same set of insurance policies, keep looking. read more

The website made it soooo easy to schedule an appointment date and time. The wait time at the office was short and the staff was polite. They made sure to take the extra step explaining the different nerves in my eyes and tests that were taking. My only complaint is that I wished they actually sold the contacts and lenses in their office because it would have saved me a good amount with my insurance. read more

I feel the evaluation was thorough and felt in good hands. Both the assistants at the front desk were nice and efficient. Not sure what more I can ask for. I LOVED Master Eye Associates. Not only is their location VERY convenient, they are also really nice people. I went in for a contact lens examination and lens fitting. To be real honest, I hate going to any doctor and I especially don't want to be lectured by some optometrist about how often I change my lenses. I got neither of those. While I was there I had the chance to sit and tell the doctor about what I was looking for in a lens and I let them advise me on which lens I should try. Being that I hadn't tried this specific lens before, we agreed that I should try it for a week and see how it worked. I didn't like it after a week and I am close enough to their office that trying another lens worked out well for me so I tried a second lens. I ended up liking that one and they gave me a prescription. There was no mention of purchasing lenses from anyone and no request that I shop anywhere in particular and no specific instructions on purchasing at all. They mentioned that they don't sell the lenses there and would be happy to recommend places if I wanted but there was no pressure to go anywhere in particular. Dr. Mayberry and Dr. Seichek really took the time to listen to me and respond to my requests. They didn't rush my appointments and I felt like they cared about me and my time. They were always quick to enter the room once I was sat down. They were both friendly people and valued me as a patron. I am pleased to have them as my provider and will be happy to return to them later. I didn't know that my insurance would cover my exam when I first went in. The receptionist/nurse/helper at the front asked enough questions to realize that I did in fact have insurance that would cover my exam. She also called (I know because I heard her) to verify that my benefits did include the optional, more helpful, exams that they offer. I'm glad she was there and had an understanding of my insurance and had the forethought to ask the right questions to determine that my coverage would be good there. I honestly couldn't ask for a better optometrist visit. I will/do recommend them to everyone. read more

I'd probably give this place two stars but I'm not quite sure I have experienced better. I've learned to take a little initiative though and not let an exam be rushed through. The staff seemed attentive and not overbearing, the doctor was thorough and straightforward in my opinion. Since my appointment was a few weeks ago and needed a duplicate Rx (I was given another sample with no extra fee and a follow up to make sure I liked them) I called them and I received it right away. I also appreciate that no one pressured me to purchase contacts or eyeglasses. I ALWAYS get that from the optometrists that are right next door to major chains. Not here. I'll go back next year for my exam. read more

Master Eye Associates - Highland Mall (which is not downtown) I made an appointment for a contact lens fitting. I checked my insurance before hand, and printed out the form that showed I was eligible for a fitting. I had gone in for an exam and glasses about a year before and that went well, except I would have liked more discussion with the optometrist about the appropriateness of the frames I chose for my visual needs. Not a big deal - I'm just used to more thorough service. I went to my appointment and explained that I was here for contacts only and gave the receptionist my paperwork. I had what seemed like a lenghty interaction with the doctor, but simply assumed maybe this guy was more attentive than the doc I had seen before. I got a pair of contacts and my prescription and left satisfied. Later I got a bill showing that my contact lens fitting was covered by insurance, but I would be responsible for the exam fee. Not understanding what was going on, I called Master Eye Associates and asked. I was told that I had received an exam and would be charged for it. But I hadn't asked for an exam, did I? The receptionist said that contact lens fitting require an exam. When I asked why no one told me this before it happened, she said that I was told nearly a year ago, when I had my initial exam, that a contact lens fitting could be done within (I think she said) 3 months without re-examination. I explained to her that I was never told such a thing. At the time of my first exam, I still had some disposable lens left but needed new glasses, so I figured I'd get the fitting when I needed to. We talked at length, and I asked her to ask the doctor if he thought losing me as a patient and having me complain publicly about their unacceptable customer service was worth the $60 we were arguing over, and she called me back and offered me 10% off. She also suggested that I call my insurer and see if they would cover the cost, since it was just 20 days until my plan would cover another exam. I thought it was pretty ridiculous for me to have to ask my insurer to cover what had clearly been a mistake on Master Eye's part, but looking for a resolution, I gave it a try. They, of course, said no. I once again pleaded my case with the receptionist, asking why on earth I would come in a mere 20 days before I could get an exam covered to get a contact lens fitting if I KNEW the exam cost would be out-of-pocket? She reiterated the 10% off offer and I asked again if the negative publicity was worth the $54 they insisted I pay. Evading the question, she said she was sorry, but there was nothing else she could do. To her credit, she remained calm and courteous throughout the interaction. Was this because she didn't understand the ramifications? Or because knew she was following (unfortunate) Master Eye policy? So they resent a bill with 10% off. I encourage you to not patronize this establishment. I went in thinking I was an informed consumer - I checked my coverage, was armed with the paperwork and I asked for exactly what I needed. Master Eye did not tell me then that I needed and exam and would have to pay for it, nor did they inform me a year before about the 3-month time limit for a contact lens fitting. They claimed they did the latter, but did not deny the former. What happens to folks who come in trusting that Master Eye is going to work with them and their insurance without reserached it beforehand? Let's not find out. read more

Dr Maybury was thorough and kind in helping me get a new contact prescription, making adjustments and fixing the problem I was having with one lens irritating my eye. My complaint is with being quoted over the phone that my contact fitting would cost $60 out of pocket after they called to inform me my insurance wouldn't cover. I kept my appointment saying I could afford that out of pocket. When I checked in I gave the woman at the front desk my contacts to make sure I could get a prescription for the same brand, Duette HD. She did not tell me at that time that rgb contacts would cost almost twice as much to fit! She did however confirm that it would be out of pocket. So I check out to a $170 bill when I was expecting $80 with the copay of the exam. This was a shock and she had no explanation of having quoted me $60 other than stating that rgb fittings are $150. They should have let me know there was more than one contact fee depending on what kind of contacts you wear. Im happy with the care of the Dr, but absolutely will not recommend them because of this experience! Now I have to wait to buy the actual lenses because of how expensive this was!! read more

I visited Master Eye Associates on Barbara Jordan Blvd. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Dr. Xavier, on the other hand, was not. She was very short, distant, and unfriendly. She fitted me for my contacts and I still had blurry vision. I tried to politely let her know and she insisted that her prescription was correct. After persistently telling her that I still had blurry vision, she reluctantly changed my prescription and it's still not the correct strength. I was so frustrated. Now I'm having to order contacts for my right eye only and use them for both eyes. I will not be going back. I work in healthcare and understand the importance of customer service and a positive attitude. Hoping everyone else has a better experience. I likely will not recommend this place. read more

I have been to MasterEye in Highland Mall before it moved to this location and got much better service. This time, I filled out my forms, and when I went to turn them in, both of the front desk staff were MIA. They came and took my forms and told me to have a seat. Over 25 minutes later, 30 mins after my appointment time, nobody had even come out to let me know what was up. They finally came out to check some people out. People who got in after me, and had an appointment time 30 mins after mine were seen and neither the doctor nor the staff said anything to me about there being a delay in my appointment. I let the staffer know I would have to leave, as it was now over 30 mins past my appointment time and I was expecting to be seen, or at least informed of a delay by now. She said that there was a delay and she was sorry not to let me know there would be one. I went ahead and left. I'm a paying customer and know I can get better service elsewhere. I ended up getting an appointment with a local business that I have bought glasses from before and their fee is even cheaper than MasterEye. We'll see what happens there, but as long as I get seen or told of delays within 30 mins after my appointment was supposed to start, it will be an improvement. read more

As a person who has little concern for self presentation, I don't normally want to go to see a Dr for any reason. The typical hassle just makes it not worth the effort. I work with metal a great deal, and I find myself standing in your office wanting you to dig some chunk of metal out of my eye or eyes. This is not a good time to get the appointment run around or General hassle. Every time I have been in your office, I have been very satisfied and treated with the utmost care and respect. Your staff and associates, do outstanding work and seem to handle my whining and belly-acking without a missed step. You have become my eye people. Thank you. read more

I can't really speak for the insurance mishap of the previous patient. But with my dad being a dentist I know that it's really the responsibility of the patient to know their benefits and it's really just a courtesy (an expected courtesy, but nonetheless not a requirement) to verify our benefits. That aside, my experience at this Master Eye was wonderful. I too got a contact lens exam and had no issues with my co-payments, then again I had checked on them myself. The doctor was really thorough. Dr. Simonek seemed to give me plenty of time and answered all my questions. She was young and was just very easy to talk to. As for the staff they seemed nice and knowledgeable as well. For the convenience and exam that I got, I'd def. go back. Sorry the guy before seems so bitter about not knowing his insurance benefits. read more
