I just had a trailer brake controller installed on a 2012 VW Touareg and was very impressed with the service at Master Hitch. My Touareg has a factory installed hitch and trailer wiring, but the brake controller connector under the dash is notoriously hard to find. I initially planned to install the controller myself and, after hours of searching, I finally located the connector but was unable to reach it. Along the way I had contacted and/or visited three different VW dealers and another trailer shop, but none of them were able to offer any useful advice. The VW dealers didn't even know what I was talking about. Finally I came across Master Hitch and am very glad that I did. When I called they said that they were familiar with Touaregs and had experience installing brake controllers in them. I brought my vehicle to them the next day (no appointment necessary) and they installed the controller while I waited. When I saw how much the tech had to disassemble under the dash to access the controller connector, I was glad to have paid a professional rather than attempting it myself, plus it would have taken me ten times longer to do. The price was quite reasonable as well. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone in the greater Chicago area for trailer hitch and wiring installation and whatever other towing related needs you might have. read more

Requested a quote and Tom got right back with a very reasonable one. Drove out from the city on a Saturday morning and they got me in and out of there in less than 45 minutes. Was going to get a bike rack from the internet, but Tom showed me some options and they were once again competitively priced so I bought one on the spot. They gave me a demo and explained everything about the hitch and how to use the bike rack. Made it so easy. Very informative. Well worth the trip from the city. When I called in to make an appointment for a new hitch the guy on the phone was very polite and told me that I could be in and out in approx. 40 minutes. After I drove to the shop, I found out that they had bumped my reservation, all I got was, "I'm sorry man." So when I made another appointment for yesterday (8/30/10), I was once again told that the install for my truck would take 40 minutes. They took 3 hours to do the install, they broke my bumper and used zip-ties to put it back on, with out telling me. They tore the weather stripping on my tailgate, once again without telling me. Plus the "easy little trimming" that was necessary was messed up, once again, without telling me. The manager was very quick to take my credit card when the install was complete, but spent 3 hours avoiding me while I was waiting. read more

No wonder all the 5 star reviews. Scott and his team are extremely professional, knowledgeable, customer oriented and extremely honest. After looking online for places near Chicago to install a hitch receiver for my bike rack, I came across Master Hitch. After reading all the 5 star reviews I decided it should be worth the trip from Chicago to Palatine. However once I contacted the store, Scott kindly let me know that the hitch receivers for my car were back ordered due to the high demand related with increased travelling for summer vacation by car due to COVID-19. I was able to find the hitch online and contacted them back asking if they could install it. Scott accepted to do the job and asked me to call him back once I received the hitch. In less than 50 minutes from dropping off the car I got a call to let me know the car was ready for pick up (... it was so fast that at first I thought they were calling because of some problem with the installation :). I never went in for service but made a phone call instead. Was actually planning to bring the car in to remove the rust on our hitch receiver with sandblasting. The person I talked to is not money hungry and actually taught us what is the most efficient way to get this fixed.
