My son has been with Master Shin since he was 9 years old, and I could not speak enough about the 7 years of experience practicing at his studio. I think it has everything you need for a great taekwondo practice starting from spacious rooms, excellent trainers to a family supportive atmosphere that is present there. My son has had challenges with balance, problems with attention and consistency and some health issues since he was little. He has developed a passion to soccer very early, but often would fall on the ground during playing the game and his progress and esteem were suffering. I was seeking for some kind of training for him that would resolve those issues, and I was so glad when I discovered Master Shin's studio at the birthday party for my son's friend! My son loved the place and the training from the first time. Master Shin is a great teacher and the model of integrity that is hard to find these days. I think the whole program and the extraactivities and camps they offer to children and parents are designed to cover all aspects of healthy body-mind development. And even it was a bumpy road for my son and us and we were not always steady with the practice, we still see the results! And we have seen leaps forward and improvements during the years together and hope to reap more in the future! My son now has completely switched from Taekwondo to soccer and got into Varsity team this year. His concentration, focus and ability to see the whole picture of the game and position of players amazes many! We are now proud parents of our son. We came to Master Shin's from another Taekwon Do program and have found the program to be wonderful. Master Shin is phenomenal with the children, and has rekindled my son's love of TKD. The high number of teachers to students makes the program very individualized, and we have seen tremendous growth in our son since he began at Master Shin's. He has gained focus, and patience and is excited to progressing to truly earn his next belt level. As the program is tailored to individual progress, he has had the time to really work on improving his skills, with appropriate support to help him to achieve full competence in each skill that he is working on, vs. being rushed to belt advancement. Other things to note, the facility itself is beautiful and beautifully maintained. There is a waiting area for parents, with comfortable chairs, but it is separated by glass from the class, so that the children are able to stay focused on their practice and their teachers. Lastly, both Master Shin and his wife are lovely to interact with, very patient and helpful and willing to answer any questions help guide parents (like me) who have no background in martial arts training. My son has been attending Master Shin's for about 1.5 years now. Each class accommodates several levels of "belts." We pay to attend 2 classes per week, and the classes vary in their time of day, so they fit into everyone's schedule. There are even family classes my friends have taken, and love. All the instructors are top-notch, and Master Shin himself spends a large amount of time with the lowest belts in each class, to make sure everyone gets excellent training from the beginning. Master Shin focuses on respect for oneself and others -- including academics and chores at home. We have been thoroughly impressed, every step of the way, at his level of expertise, professionalism, training in martial arts, and ability to teach everyone well. We love Master Shin's studio. It has done wonders for our 5year old. They have an excellent, non-threatening and encouraging style. They have a large number of instructors who really take the time to teach and are very engaged. The program is very flexible for working parents and they are very accommodating and flexible if you need to change the schedule somewhat. When signing up for a longer term agreement we were somewhat concerned, but truly they are not focused on just charging you the amount you paid - plenty of places that are very rigid about make up classes etc. Excellent experience so far. We have yet to get our white belt, but our boy is truly motivated to get it! read more

My children both earned black belts after training with Master Shin and his team for over 9 years ;) Master Shin is a wonderful teacher, and treats his students as if they were his own ! Our sons have been going to Master Shin's for over 5 years now. They continue enjoying the classes very much, and we love the emphasis on respect, discipline, and always trying your best. We've seen some other martial arts studios, but nothing matches the feeling you get when walking into Master Shin's. Both of my daughters earned their black belts from MSMA and I was always so impressed with Master Shin's and Master Hwang's ability to keep in challenging, but also fun. I also was impressed at their ability to break down a huge task into manageable and attainable goals. In fact, I was so impressed with the school for my daughters, that I starting taking TKD myslef and earned my black belt as well! The workouts were intense and I was in great shape. Our son, who is high-functioning autistic, has been going to Master Shin's tae kwon do studio for 4 years. It has been such a great thing for him. The masters and their student teachers are very patient with the kids and they're great role models. They instill a sense of self-confidence, discipline, and respect for parents/teachers/friends. Master Shin's is the best place for kids to learn Taekwondo in Andover. I like the fact that it is a family owned Dojo. Master Shin is a highly qualified sixth-degree black belt. I am impressed with the whole operation but particularly the staffs' ability to relate to even the most difficult children. Never any yelling or abuse, never singling out a child for public reprimand, just the quiet and consistent expectation of respect and cooperation.
