We just engaged him again for a maternity photoshoot and we were so thankful to have him shoot for us. In my opinion there's two things to consider, aside from how the photos turn out, obviously a big one, the other major consideration is how they work with you during the shoot itself. Our memories are captured as much in the experience as they are in the photos. And it's clear he is a professional, he brought his lighting expert Pete, and these guys are about the craft. They helped pick an epic location with multiple scenes, and Gelstons doing whatever it takes to get the right shot, from guiding the subject (my wife), to watching shadows and working the sun light, to laying on the jungle floor to get the right angle. I was looking for a family photographer for a three-generation family reunion in Kauai. Erin sent me a survey to not only get a sense of what types of photos I was looking for, but to also learn the names and relationships of every family member. She checked in with me a week closer to the date and confirmed the location and time but also offered some flexibility if the kids had issues getting up too early (we planned for 7am to have the best natural lighting) . When we met her at the beach, she had already memorized everyone's names and was gentle but directive, helping us capture all of the different groupings and strategically having us do the big group shots first. She was such a pleasure to work with and really took her time capturing the in between moments and the family photos. I just got my photos today and had to write this review because they came out amazing. We will definitely be using them for Christmas cards as well as large print photos for around our house. We came to Kauai on our first vacation with our baby and hired Shelly for a "family of three"…read morephotoshoot by the beach in Poipu. First off, she is very responsive to text and emails. I love that. She didn't leave us hanging, ever. Also, Shelly herself is a very sweet and kind person. You can just see it in her demeanor. She was so accommodating! The weather was bad getting worse when she got here for our scheduled time, and many photographers would have just said "ok let's go indoors and do the shoot" - but Shelly offered to come back again the next day when the weather was supposed to be better (and it was completely better thankfully!). It was generous of her since it meant more of a time commitment on her part, but you could tell she just wanted to make sure we got great pictures. We are really thankful for that! Now, what about the pictures themselves? After all, that is what you hire her for, right? They came out great! Lots of variety - I don't think a single pair of pictures looks similar to each other. I hate it when you get the pictures back and it's basically all the same pose of "the family looking into the camera". Shelly made sure we got lots of different poses, angles, backgrounds. She picked great spots that were easy to get to but also photographed really well. She did a great job with the composition of the shots themselves. Her turnaround time to get us the pictures was pretty insane actually! I could not believe she got them to us so quickly! We found her price to be super reasonable, too.
