After careful consideration, I opted for Jijitsu, recognizing its suitability for my age and the potential risks associated with other combat sports like boxing, mixed martial arts, and kickboxing. Jijitsu offers the advantage of self-control and the ability to tap out in challenging situations. Upon conducting research, I identified several Jijitsu gyms in my vicinity. My primary focus was on the qualifications of the coach, the cleanliness of the facility, and the quality of my training partners. The Sim Go Academy consistently met all these criteria. Sim Go Academy is led by Sim, a seasoned coach with over two decades of experience. He is supported by a team of highly skilled coaches who possess extensive competition backgrounds. Their attentiveness, knowledge, and expertise are exceptional. The gym maintains a pristine environment with showers, change rooms, ample space, and a meticulously maintained mat that undergoes regular vacuuming and mopping after each training session. The gym's atmosphere is characterized by a welcoming and friendly environment. The members are aware that the primary objective is personal improvement, health maintenance, and consistent training. Since commencing my training at Sim Go Academy, I have experienced a significant enhancement in my mental focus. I have successfully lost weight, improved my overall health, and developed a profound desire to continue training. Jijitsu has become an integral part of my life, thanks to Sim, my head coach, and my dedicated training partners. If you are contemplating joining a martial arts academy, I highly recommend Sim Go Academy. Do not hesitate to take the first step. You will undoubtedly find it to be an enriching and enjoyable experience.

We have had 2 disappointing experiences at Roll Society Jiu-Jitsu…read more About 6 or so months ago, I was searching for a local spot to supplement my son's primary sport (soccer) with some ground work, thinking jiu-jitsu could help with wrestling-like skills one day a week. We weren't aiming to become competitive fighters, just some extra training around his busy schedule. Initially, they offered a $25 drop-in class advertised for kids. When we arrived, there were no other children in the class. It ended up being essentially a private session with the coach, which they hyped as "more personalized," but it didn't impress us at all. The coaching felt basic, but the biggest issue was the hard sell started immediately, they pushed aggressively for signing up for more sessions or a full membership, even after I clearly explained that soccer was his main focus and we were only looking for occasional drop-ins. We tried a few more sessions (about 4 total), but then they suddenly informed us that drop-ins were no longer available and we'd have to commit to a monthly membership. That didn't align with our needs, so we stopped going. Recently, I noticed on Facebook that the same location had rebranded with a new name and what looked like new ownership. Hoping things had improved (especially for kids programs), I reached out via Messenger. They offered two free trial classes for my son, so we gave it another shot. Upon arriving, it was immediately clear it was the exact same people, same owner, just a new name on the door. They refused to honor the two free classes because we'd been there before (fair enough), but then said we could pay the drop-in fee which they'd previously claimed was discontinued, yet now it was back (now $30). I was fine with paying, but I wanted to observe if any other kids would show up for the "kids" session. None did. The staff (Joe) was rude and dismissive when I asked basic questions, and overall I was made to feel unwelcome. Later on, the person who I had messaged with about the free trials, followed up and claimed he was a new trainer there, and wanted to give my boy a chance to train with him, and everything that had transpired was because of a big mix up. That "Joey" (the rude staff) didn't know anything about our messages or his 2 free classes offer. I appreciated the follow up and the clarification, which is why I'm going to give them two stars instead of one. I get that gyms are businesses and need to make money, but I don't understand the disdain toward someone who just wants to use the drop-in option they advertise--especially when that particular kids class seems empty anyway. If you offer it, why get upset when people take you up on it? Overall, the inconsistent policies, high-pressure sales tactics, and occasional abrasiveness made for 2 frustrating experiences. It doesn't feel like a place that genuinely welcomes casual students or supports young athletes with busy schedules. It seems more focused on locking people into long-term commitments. We won't be going back, and I'd advise other parents to explore other options that prioritize the students over aggressive upselling.

We attend training almost every single day. Yes, almost 7 days a week. Professor Ryan and the other Coaches of this gym are very passionate and patient with the students. They ensure each student understands each move and does not move on until they do so. They ensure each child is as safe as possible when sparring. They teach their students to listen, to be kind, to be patient and to have fun. They encouraged my son to compete just two months after starting and because of their encouragement, knowledge and patience in teaching my son, he brought home the gold medal and won 5/5. Another great thing about this gym is that it is family owned and ran. Professor Ryan is a black belt who teaches the classes along with his daughter's Noe and Kona and his wife , Cara. All four of them train jiujitsu and they are able to share their knowledge with the students. I highly, highly recommend Cobrinha Mountains Edge for your jiujitsu training.

The coaches are consistent, passionate, organized, and thorough with teaching the mini cobras. Coach John, Coach Allison, and Coach Cat are my daughter's favorite coaches! We do have a preference of going certain days of the week for a few reasons: I can tell the coaches are much more patient on Thursday-Saturday rather than Monday through Wednesday. It's also a lot less crowded during the latter half of the week. I know they do a lot more drilling in the beginning of the week, so it's unfortunate we tend to miss that time. Overall, we're very satisfied at Cobrinha and will continue to be dedicated members.
