Ube and marcha swirl soft serve in a cup
    Michelle S.

I stopped by Matcha Cafe Maiko in Escondido for the first time and had a nice experience. It's a small, cute shop with nice decor and just a few seats inside. You can either order at the counter or use the self service kiosk. Even though it's a tight space, everything felt well organized, and my order came out pretty quickly. There's also plenty of parking in the shopping center. My date and I shared the matcha and ube swirl soft serve in a cup, and the portion was surprisingly generous. It was more than enough for the two of us. The soft serve was incredibly creamy and looked beautiful. I realized I'm just not a huge fan of matcha's earthy flavor, but that's completely personal preference. The ube side, on the other hand, was delicious, and I'd definitely order that again. Overall, I'm glad we stopped in and would come back to try more of the menu.

It's been a while since we visited a Matcha Maiko cafe and I was impressed with how expansive their menu has gotten. Now with a variety of soft serve flavors, including the pineapple dole whip that I love when in Honolulu. The matcha was so rich and authentic, it is still by far my favorite soft serve flavors. We got the Maiko special, loved the layers of red beans, jelly, and two soft serve flavor choices. The cornflakes gave a nice crunch between each bite.

I honestly go to this place at least every other day. I've been away for about 2 weeks and came back and went to grab this matcha instead of food.

Tiramisu hojicha + ube dalgona coffee
    Sheila V.

The tiramisu hojicha was so creamy and sweet; my only complaint was that the powder sunk to the bottom and would get kind of clumpy. The ube dalgona was super smooth and sweet too!

Very clean and welcoming place. The waffle and ice cream dessert is very good but I don't think it's worth $13 + that you will have to spend to get it. I definitely recommend checking it out, but I do think there are other options that are more affordable and equally good.

This matcha place is really all about matcha. I got the tiramisu hojicha latte and the tiramisu matcha latte. Both drinks come with an actual slice of tiramisu on top, which surprised me, l thought it would be more like a tiramisu flavored drink with hojicha or matcha mixed in. The tiramisu itself is really good, but personally I don't think it goes well with the drink. The texture of the cake while sipping the latte feels a little off. I also tried the nitro Vietnamese coffee. It was unusual because when you hear "Vietnamese coffee" you expect something strong, but this one was light and you can really taste the milk. I really enjoyed the bubble waffle series-especially the Oreo one. It's really good. The honey toast series was okay, nothing special. I got the honey toast with ice cream, and I remember honey toast being crispy but still easy to eat. This one wasn't crispy at all and the bread was tough. Overall, this place is reall good for matcha drinks.

Small and clean cafe near I15. Ordered Cheese foam matcha. It was $9 a bit pricey but the matcha taste really good. They also sell some cookies and waffles but didn't have time to try them. When we got there, it was a bit busy but they worked very efficient.

After finally trying this viral matcha location I was dissatisfied with the service and quality of items ordered. Upon entering the establishment I was completely unaware that this location is self order on a kiosk. Employees would just look at us but don't greet customers. I did order the mango sticky rice with matcha and vanilla soft serve and the quality was not that great. The rice was stale and fruit was not as fresh. I find it a little overpriced for the quality.

Matcha Cafe Maiko is the perfect Matcha Stop. Food: a large menu with new options all the time! From floats to puddings to lattes to sparkling drinks to coffees. The matcha flavor was strong. Also, extra points for infinite customization. Sweetness, ice level, non dairy alternatives, adding soft serve, and of course, all the boba toppings. We tried the sparkling yuzu with dole whip added, the banana pudding with matcha soft serve, and the Matcha chocolate float. All were delicious and gobbled up in minutes. Service: it is mostly self-ordering, but the workers were very nice. Ambiance: well decorated place. Just wish they had a bigger space because every table was taken on a Saturday afternoon.

The quality of matcha maiko here is just like the other ones! I adore the banana pudding with matcha soft serve! This location is a bit more narrow and small seeming than the others in San Diego, but there are still plenty of chairs and tables. Service is fast and efficient. If I was craving matcha in Escondido, I'd come here.

The soft serve was so delicious! The place is pretty small but was nice and clean. The cashier was nice and helpful as well.

Matcha-ube awkward roommates in a cone, not perfectly fused to display their love for each other :(

This was the third Maiko Cafe Matcha location I've visited, and sadly, the flavor gods were not entirely in my favor. Escondido location - congrats, you've beat Kearny Mesa (low bar), but you're still bowing to the Rowland Heights royalty (best one out of the 4 siblings, since I've yet to try the Mira Mesa location). Shoutout to the efficient kiosk system... 13 people ahead and still got my order within 6 minutes? That's faster than me deciding what to binge-watch on Netflix!! Now, about that soft serve. I ordered ube-matcha expecting a majestic swirl of harmony OR ube-matcha's perfect love child, but what I got was a flavor divorce. No swirl. Just two awkward roommates in a cup/cone. Yes, foodies that fusion matters, bc it's the whole bitter-sweet balance symphony, not bitter vs sweet in a cone cage match. Matcha & ube are supposed to be in love, not separated. I'm still rating you fairly well, despite ube & matcha living Separate Lives (like Phil Collins' song).

My daughter spotted this place and wanted to come here. You walk in and get greeted right away with the menu and the option to order on the pad. Felt like we took forever to pick what we wanted so walked up to the counter instead. Took a few minutes for someone to take our order but our drinks came out quick. My daughter enjoyed her strawberry matcha and dango. She wants to go back. Easy parking in lot and right off the 78.

My husband has started timing how long I can go without mentioning it (current record: 6 hours, and honestly I'm not proud of that). The staff here are so genuinely kind that I've started to suspect they're either extremely well-trained or just secretly the nicest humans alive - I'm leaning toward the latter. Every single time I walk in it's warm greetings and zero judgment when I order something absurdly complicated with three add-ins and "light ice, not too light- 50% sweet." The tea itself tastes like it was brewed with actual love and not, you know, whatever sad tea bags are haunting other boba shops. Fresh, fragrant, the real deal. And the boba?? Cooked to that perfect chewy-not-mushy texture that feels like it should require a culinary degree. I've had boba elsewhere that tasted like sad little erasers. Not here. Here they respect the pearl. Honestly this place has ruined me for other boba shops in Escondido. I walk past competitors now like a woman who's found The One and simply cannot be tempted. 10/10, will be back approximately tomorrow.

Me and my husband actually DoorDashed the first order, my husband got the Taro Ice Blended w/ Pudding and I got this seasonal drink called the Spooky Swirl Ice Blend with mini pearls. Even though it wasn't fresh and it took like 10-15 minutes to deliver after we ordered it, it still came flavorful & icy! It barely melted and still tasted wonderful compared to most boba places we've tried for take-out. We went a second time on the way home from running errands and got different slushees because we really seem to enjoy them here. I got the Strawberry Slushie w/ Lychee Jelly and it came with vanilla ice cream (which I didn't know!), while I got my husband the Matcha Slushie w/ Red Bean and vanilla ice cream. His matcha drink was definitely my favorite, the Strawberry drink just kind of gave me a Summer drink vibe but very light in flavor. I still think this boba is great compared to most places, and I will be back more often to expand my boba drinks to try other ones on the menu.

We also got a Passionfruit Green Tea with Boba - 0% sweet. Both were perfect. The sweetness from the boba pearls was more than enough for my passionfruit tea and the honeydew melon slush was on point. The walls are decorated with framed black & white photos of hip hop / rap artists. After making our drinks, the cashier quizzed us on our hip hop artist knowledge :) If you grew up in the 80s-90s, this place will take you back to the golden days of hip hop/rap.
