I ultimately chose Earth Glow ($8.50), which had the beautiful vibrant colors of blue and green. Take a pic before you stir it though, as it soon turns into a murky green. I was so excited to try this, but it was unfortunately too grainy for me. If I want someone who doesn't like matcha to get into matcha, I wouldn't recommend them this. And the ice cream consistency was too gritty, I understand that vegan ice cream can be tough to nail, but it seems like something in the recipe is causing the ingredients to split. Honestly didn't realize it was a full vegan spot, so was a bit surprised when we couldn't get a full dairy option, but ended up choosing the pistachio milk. I have had several amazing experiences with Matchaful over the last month. I've been sneaking down to Spring St before work about once a week to grab a matcha and the morning employees are always sooo kind!! Particularly the Monday and Tuesday ones. The shop is cute, but easy enough to miss walking by. There is no inside seating, so be ready to grab and go. At this point I've tried about five different drinks from their menu and there are some distinct hits and some distinct misses. To preface, I have never been a big matcha gal. I always stick to lattes and cappuccinos but I've been itching to try something new (and it doesn't hurt to be consuming less dairy). My favorite has been the Indigo Glow. On my first visit I asked for suggestions and the barista recommended this bad boy (pictured below). It has a thick taro texture and is fairly sweet, so it was perfect for me as a matcha newby. My second favorite is the Fountain of Chai - you may not think chai and matcha should mix but I totally disagree. It's a mild matcha bev. The Vanilla Zen is also a nice option! Some of the drinks that are a bit more ehh for me included the Secret Garden which is meant to be a floral bev but tasted pretty one note to me. Definitely not bad, and perhaps better for people who really do appreciate matcha. The Autumnal Spice, a seasonal bev, is also fine. It didn't have any strong flavors sticking out, so likely not something I'll order again. Overall Matchaful is a fun spot with options for the beginner matcha drinkers to the experts (I'm not an expert so this might not be true lol). read more
