    The coffee bird. Beware.

((4.25 stars)) Kaida Coffee & Bakery is a small cozy sunny coffee shop / cafe squeezed into Ludlow Street. they offer a variety of standard coffee and tea drinks as well as unique signature ones. there's serve a variety of freshly baked foods from cookies to biscuits to croissants as well as a small menu of sandwiches like turkey & cheese and avocado toast.have been here about 3 times. most recently, i enjoyed a cortado there. it was well-made drink that had a rich coffee flavor with the creaminess of the milk. very smooth--the coffee's flavor hits tasty notes while the steamed milk adds a little sweetness and doesn't let the coffee overpower the drink. the barista who made the cortado did a nice job with it and appreciated it because cortados are not easy drinks to get right. also had some q's about the shop and coffee--she was super friendly in giving me details about the coffee shop and the coffee they serve. the coffee shop's interior gets a lot of light and has a warm ambiance. there's some seating at the window and along the sides of the space. Kaida has a casual comfortable vibe. definitely a nice addition to Ludlow Street...in a competitive coffee shop area like the Lower East Side.

I came on a weekday morning and was the only customer. This is a very small coffee shop, the service was very friendly, and the coffee was great. I got the iced tiramisu latte, which was very creamy, and not overly sweet. I will definitely be back to get the tiramisu latte again, and to try their other drinks. I think it was the owner who was working behind the counter and who made my drink, and this place deserves more recognition!

Really enjoyed their tiramisu latte! The barista really ensured our latte was made to perfection and we loved how it included a lady finger on top. The shop is cute and quaint. We'd return!

Laughably bad customer service and a very watered down coffee. I can see why this shop was completely empty.

Finally decided to try this place after walking by it for years. I refused to try this in the past,…read morebecause I didn't like how many items they put on display. It felt like items weren't made with care and mass produced at a factory or something. I went 10 minutes before they closed and there was still 10+ of each dessert. I'm not convinced that they will dispose of them. Even if they do, it means they didn't do a good job in forecasting demand especially after being in business for multiple years. I ordered mango and yuzu. Both were too sweet and had one dimensional flavor and textures, not refreshing per their stated flavors. Even if their appearances take effort, they don't look pretty enough for me to forgive what goes in my mouth. I'm used to having patisseries with many layers and elements. Mango's sponge probably only took up 20% of the bottom, because I barely had bites of it. Most of my bites didn't have any. I didn't like how liquid the filling was. It didn't exactly ooze out but just melted into a puddle in my mouth. Yuzu looks pretty with the pink and yellow glaze, but it didn't go with the realistic fruit theme. I chose it for the flavor combination which is strawberry, yuzu, and guava. This was slightly better in terms of flavor variety in the mouth. The flower on top had a weird off putting flavor. The bottom crispy rice apparently is supposed to be chocolate but it came out plain. It was tasteless anyway, so not effective in terms of flavor or texture.

I had to run to work after an appointment so I ordered for takeout. The person taking my order was friendly. I opted for the Lumberjack and a black cold brew. I received the drink very quickly, with a short wait for the sandwich. While waiting, one member of the staff stocking up supplies on the side started chatting with me and then she offered to check up on my sandwich. She came out with it shortly thereafter. She was very friendly and helpful. The sandwich held up well during my 15-minute commute to the office. It is a really indulgent sandwich, with each bite revealing the sweetness and butteriness of the maple crueller, the saltiness of the thick cut bacon, and the savoriness of the cheese and the eggs as the yolks popped. I sipped the cold brew in between bites to cut the richness. It was a very satisfying meal. The Lumberjack is not something I would recommend you eat every day, but it's good as an occasional treat. In the past I've ordered lunch from Daily Provisions via delivery (the "Chefy" salad and the chicken milanese with arugula salad are my favorites), but I might start adding other breakfast sandwiches to the mix.

The peppery, thick bacon and the quite sweet, icing-topped cruller are a beautiful study in contrasts. The egg was nicely runny. I will say that's it's definitely not a good on-the-go sandwich, as it falls apart easily. However, I don't think this is a great spot for coffee. I was a bit underwhelmed by my latte, which tasted more like thin drip coffee than a rich, strong espresso. I also think they could offer more sweetener options.

The quality of the shot was excellent, smooth, bright, and really clean. The bar setup itself is super unique and very minimalist. They are running a really interesting under the counter espresso machine where the main bulk of the equipment is hidden away, leaving just these sleek, minimal group heads rising up from the counter. It was my first time seeing a machine of that style in person, and it looks incredibly sharp. I would absolutely come back here next time I'm in the area.
