I stopped by to try the Addison Rae collaboration Summer Forever drink which was the perfect pick me up this summer! It is made with mango purée, Oishii purée, blue spirulina coconut milk, and topped with a matcha coconut cold foam. It is nearly $11 after tax so I think it's a bit steep. Due to its price, it's something I'd only get once and not again. Matchaful in general is just alright. Some of the drinks are too expensive for me to justify getting them. The matcha latte itself is delicious, but if you prefer it sweet, let them know. It's unsweetened otherwise. 1. the drinks cost $10 each 2. the matcha is veryyy watered down to the point that i could hardly even taste it, which is insane work for a $10 matcha. i got the one with butterfly pea flower, and it overpowered the taste of matcha. i also tried the regular matcha latte that my friend got and it was also very watery and tasteless 3. the authenticity of this chain in general is a little questionable, it's owned by a white entrepreneur who has turned a significant japanese cultural practice into trendy and "creative" drinks. matchaful claims to honor the japanese farms it buys from but it's honestly doing them a disservice because the matcha isn't even good and the trendy western-style ingredients they add completely overpower the matcha itself. i'm pretty sure the matcha they import is low grade and then packaged to look high quality so they can sell it at higher prices (definitely do research before buying their matcha powder). it also very much presents as a traditional japanese store in terms of interior design and selling matcha products (bags and whisks), but it doesn't acknowledge or pay homage to the origin of matcha, and ultimately a white entrepreneur is profiting off this false sense of authenticity. overall, this feels like cultural appropriation, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth :( read more
