What a great find! Tried their wine for the first time at the Yolo Wine event held in Capay and we were immediately drawn to them! So visiting the actual winery was a must! They did not disappoint! Although there was no tasting due to an event, our hostess was kind enough to let us sample the wines they had available. Gosh so difficult to choose! They were all amazing! So we ended having a glass of each red! The petite Sirah and the cab were my favs. The petite Sirah had a touch of that peppery that gave it a bit of a twist. The cab so, mmm...smooth! We also liked the Pillars of Hercules 2022 blend, which includes a blend of Tempranillo which gave it a tad bit of the heaviness. Tempranillo itself was good too and I'm typically not a fan. All were very delicious! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The grounds itself were very beautiful. Although seating is all outdoors, they provide enough shade to protect you from the sun and heat[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The stage for the band was awesome. It was located amongst the vineyard providing such a unique atmosphere![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We'll definitely be back to do a testing!

Matchbook is always relaxing place to enjoy some wine and food. You can bring your own food but check their calendar to see if there is going to be a food truck because they often have them. Their tasting menu has 4 options or you can order a bottle. The view looking over the vineyards is beautiful and the staff are very attentive and know many of the regulars. Their wine club has great options and there are pickup parties.

We have been wine club members since Covid and this place is awesome! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The views are gorgeous![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The wine is priced so well, you can bring your own food, the customer service is amazing and they have fun events. The wine club events have music, food and awesome wines! Definitely try this winery!

Took a trip here yesterday. Weather was kinda chilly but it made for a great day. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a very nice winey down a long quiet road. When you drive here you think you are going to the wrong place because there is nothing really out on the road you take but the scenery at the winery is beautiful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Not sure if you can bring food but they do have a charcuterie board and I believe the price is $20. If you do a tasting, they do waive the fee if you buy a bottle of wine. They have white and red wine all the wine I tried was really good. Service was nice They told us about the wine and if we had any other questions. I would definitely go and take a look at this place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In my opinion, it's a beautiful winery and they do have lots of seating outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Wish they had more seating indoors but they do have blankets to keep you nice and warm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Stunning open sweeping views of vineyards. What a beautiful estate. Definitely make a reservation to visit Matchbook Wine Company. This was the busiest and last stop on our wine tour of Yolo county. Looked like a breathtaking Napa winery. Our server Maddy was bright, bubbly and smiled the entire evening as she bounced from table to table. Our flight included samples of four wines, but she swapped out one for a sweeter dessert wine that we wanted to try. She also brought a glass bottle filled with water which was important as the heat index passed 100 F during the June heat wave. Food trucks are occasionally on property. You can also bring a picnic basket to enjoy while you swirl, sip and savor each glass as you are seated on a comfy patio lounge chair overlooking the lush rolling hills. Take time to explore the property as well. The wine themed oversized sculptures and fountains enhance the charm. The Matchbook logo reflects the love of fire the founding brothers had as kids. The umbrella fountain is so unique and reminds me of a Peter Max's Umbrella Man. The giant corkscrew with the signature flame overlooking the vineyards is so impressive. Thanks to Maddy (don't forget to tip your server) and Matchbook Wine Company for a great way to end a nice summer day in Yolo County and to Sacramento CM Alex P. for allowing a couple of Texans to explore Yolo County with this fun YOLO Wine Passport.

Beautiful estate! We came on a Father's Day Sunday. We arrived at the winery just as it opened. We checked in with a staff member to get our pours going and we took a seat outside under their covered patio. This is a beautiful estate with a vast area of acreage under vineyard cultivation. They grow and manufacture the wines in the same property. Who would've known that this hidden gem is less than an hour from home in Roseville (43 miles), much closer drive to us than to Napa. The estate is tucked away in the town of Zamora. Where?? A little town in rural Yolo County 30 mins from Sacramento. We enjoyed our wine tasting experience on their outdoor patio with a gorgeous vineyard view. The vineyards can be seen in gently rolling Dunnigan Hills and makes for a panoramic setting. We had a choice of four wines to sample and I found the 2019 Mossback Russian River Pinot Noir the best from the four. Surprisingly, the Tinto Rey Rosé was a bit strong for my taste buds. The staff members were great but we loved Madi. She was super friendly and knowledgeable about the wines and made our wine tasting experience enjoyable. We told her we'll be back... In my book, Matchbook is just alright, especially compared to Grindstone and a plethora of wineries within driving distance. There's always one bad apple who can ruin the wine tasting experience. I just want the owners to know they have one hostess NOT with the mostess. However, the other staff and patrons were extremely welcoming and pleasant. I want to point out the winery itself is stunning, the grounds are manicured, and I was mentioning to hubby how I wanted to see a water fountain, then comes the entrance - voila! As we arrived inside, a lady greeted us, I mentioned the passport to Yolo wine country, she wanted to see some barcode, which caused a slight confusion. Another lady whispered in her ear, probably clarifying the Yelp passport deal (no barcode/pass required). The hostess not with the mostess started pouring the rosé and mentioned we can sit anywhere outside besides the red umbrellas. We chose a nice spot, and honestly, every seat around here is a good seat. She continued pouring the rest of the wines listed, which were mediocre, and never mentioned a backstory to any of the wines or how the company came to fruition. You have Yelpers in the house, this is what we do...take copious notes. Well mental note, this particular employee is not personable or wants to get rid of us right after the flights. Another employee walked by and saw me struggling to take a selfie, and offered to take it for us (the struggle is real). Talk about being attentive to your guests, wish we had her pouring the vino. Meanwhile, I see our hostess not with the mostess chat it up with other patrons right next to us; she made it real obvious. One of the friendly patrons came up to me while I was admiring one of the unique sculptures and made a nice compliment about them, which I concurred. For some reason, at that moment, it made me feel welcomed, moreso than our hostess. Hubby had no clue I felt uneasy 'til I asked him to go buy a bottle, as I didn't want to see her RBF ever. And rule of thumb, we never leave empty handed after a complimentary tasting. She never offered a price list 'til he asked for one. 'Til next time or possibly never, cheers & see you on Yelp (SYOY)!

This was my favorite winery from those on Yolo Passport. Everything from decor to views impressed me. Let's begin with the views. The outdoor area overlooks the vineyards, and since it's located on a hill, the views are truly incredible. Landscaping is top notch with two fountains flowing on either sides of the stage. Yes, there is a stage for local events. They also have a food truck on certain days. Comfortable lounge chairs and couches invited you to sit there never wanting to leave. Now onto wines. They produce several different labels, each having its distinct quality. I found every wine on the tasting menu amazing. From initial sip I fell in love with 2019 Mossback Russian River Pinot Noir, rich and flavorful, but also mature and low sugar. One bottle for me! Another wine I loved was 2016 Tinto Rey Tempranillo, light and moderately dry. This is wine I can drink every day. Service was incredible. The associate was attentive and friendly, but allowing space and time to enjoy both the views and the wines. I would definitely want to come back to this one!

Such a lovely winery! My husband and I were looking for a relaxing Sunday morning last weekend and we stumbled upon Matchbook. We started with their wine tasting, which consisted of 1 white, 1 rose and 2 reds. I really enjoyed the 2018 Arsonists Dunnigan Hills Chardonnay and we decided to purchase a bottle and enjoy the morning. The vineyard is gorgeous. From the parking lot, it's hard to tell the size of the space and the view of the vineyard. It's very modern but also industrial with the pebbled pavement and gray hues. Stepping inside, the space is wide open and their decor is eye catching. The wine bar was to the right and because we were to first to enter right when they opened they were ready to help, great service! The back patio has plenty of space for many parties and it's all shaded. We were in for a hot day but it was really nice and cool, granted it was 11am. LOL, the view is also gorgeous. They have a huge loan and a stage that I believe they host live music on. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have any food or snacks to offer, but it looks like others brought their own. Wish I knew that, but maybe for our next visit. Which, I plan to come back because I enjoyed the wine and view so much!

Just a sneak peak of the view from the patio

Have you ever heard of a town called Zamora? Yeah... me neither! I came across this winery by chance on a trip that fell through, and was very happy with the stop. While I did not catch her name, staff was friendly and the grounds were very pretty. I'd love to hang out on an evening they have a band on their vineyard stage and watch the sun set. The tastings include 4 wines for $10 and is well worth it. I ended up going home with 4 different bottles of wine and wouldn't hesitate to make the 2hr drive back out to share the experience with friends. I think the rose and Tempranillo were my top 2 favorites, but I also went home with a bottle of Verdejo and Chardonnay.

We loved coming here. It was a 3-day weekend but where was everybody. It was busy but not crowded. The music was great, the food truck was great, the rather was perfect, and, of course, the wine was excellent. We tried two different wines. I'm not a huge white wine person but really liked the New Zealand Chasing Venus Sauvignon Blanc. It was crisp and refreshing. We also had the Malbec which was also very good. End to spending a wonderful day in the area.

I'm guessing wine tastings are mainly what the vineyard offers, but it would've been nice to have the choice explained first. This is where my 2/5 stars comes in. They only had one person serving about 12 tables. My party was only a group of 2, but there were other tables with groups as large as 9 people. It literally took 25 minutes to receive my second pour, and the only reason we got it was because I had to remind the staff. I think having at least two people pouring wine would make the experience much smoother. Upon arrival, they also have a small parking area for non-reserved parking. Luckily, we were able to find a close spot. As for the restroom, personally I'm not a fan of unisex bathrooms, and they also did not have seat covers available. Overall, the staff was friendly, but the service and organization could definitely be improved. Apart from all this, I have visited multiple wineries in Livermore, which is closer to the Bay Area, and their wine bottles are much cheaper. Their wine tasting options are also more affordable. This is just my personal experience and opinion overall I don't think I would consider coming back.

The owners are nice, modest folks who know how to make good wines. There's no snobbery or airs, here...just a friendly atmosphere and and a limited selection of varietals. I will state that my taste in wines tend to run towards the dry with emphasis on fruit.rather than too much toasted oak. If your tastes are similar, I daresay that you might find a bottle or two here that you can enjoy. When we were there today, they had a fruity, dry viognier, a nice tempranillo, and a cabernet sauvignon blended with a little petit verdot that I liked. The cab did not have harsh tannins that overpower, but just enough to be present without interfering with the almost jammy fruit. They had a syrah, too, but were sold out of their sparkling wine. I ended up buying a mixed case to take advantage of their fall sale. (Lots of wineries do this in order to make space in their cellars for the new wines they'll have once the crush-harvest season is over.)
