This was a really unique and fun dining experience. We met two other foodie couples from NYC and had lots of interesting conversation. Thanks to Chef Oscar and Sofia for being such great hosts!
The meal started with a bread with two kinds of butter: cheese and smoked. Smoked butter, by the way, is AMAZING.
Like many nice Scandinavian restaurants, Matbordet offers juice in addition to an alcohol selection. I had the rhubarb juice which was excellent. Sofia was kind enough to let me taste the apple juice as well, which I found too sweet.
Carrots with curry, yogurt, and lime was refreshing and tasted fresh and seasonal. Chef Oscar talked about how you can use the whole carrot to make a meal, and it is a shame that many people discard the carrot tops when cooking.
Lamb saddle with mushrooms was well cooked and hearty.
Bonus dessert was an experiment the chef was trying, which was a vanilla ice cream with caramel and *gasp* shaved dry aged ox heart(!!). This was pretty interesting, as the ox heart added a saltiness that made it like a salted caramel ice cream.
The real dessert was a sponge cake with berries, plum and strawberry sorbet, little meringues. It was cool seeing the chef put this together and layer it.
Just as our bellies were about to explode, we were served coffee and chocolate cakes. The cake was the best I've had in a long time. Moist but crispy on the outside.
Something nice they did was email me the menu after the meal. read more
