We ordered ahead of time, waited for quite some time. My husband drove all the way there, only to arrive home and realize that half our order was missing. Called them to complain, and they are taking off the missing items from our bill. The food we did receive was mediocre at best, honestly Publix does better than what we received tonight. The spicy tuna roll, one of our always staples, was just rice and tuna, no spicy mayo. Total disappointment. Waste of time, energy and money. They don't do delivery and we're certainly not driving back there, but I feel like in instances like this they should make it up to you. It's not about the money. Every positive experience you have heard about this place is undeniably correct. The prices are indisputably unheard of in Miami for such high quality bites. I truly crave coming here way more often than I should and if you want a solid delicious sushi experience on a reasonable budget, this is about the best you'll be able to find in the city. I really recommend you go for one of their specials, whether it'd be the Masa, Go-to-go, or Go-to-ren; they are so filling and the best way to try everything this place has to offer. I went on a Saturday around 7:00 PM and had to wait about 45 mins. There were people waiting outside since the the place is not big inside. However, it is very cozy and the ambient is great. We sat in a booth in the back and it was the perfect spot. The sushi we ordered was a combination of raw and cooked stuff. Everything came out pretty quickly and the presentation was beautiful. So there really isn't much to say per se. It's sushi. It's good sushi. If you want a nice quick bite or some take out and you're in the area, then you really can't go wrong with it. Now, it's quaint and close but if it's full it's a bit loud so I would say keep the amount of people you go with small to be able to have a nice conversation. It will always be consistent and fresh. You're always going to have the freshness you need with sushi and the rolls will always be a nice tasty treat to sit down and watch house wives of the oc or play some cards against humanity. I would say one thing. I disliked the fact that when I went to pick up my food I was standing at the reservations desk waiting there with two young gentlemen, one with the broccoli haircuts we've come to love so much, just sitting there shooting the sh!t in Spanish without acknowledging my existence. Not rushing due to orders. Not taking payments or juggling multiple reservations or persons at once. Just talking in Spanish there like I was transparent. Not good. Especially considering the restaurant consideres itself a bit more on the higher end sushi experience. So do I recommend Matsuri, sure. We got yaki nasu grilled jap eggplant w/ bonito flakes and yasai Itamae sauteed veggies as take away. The server was a bit confused and not as attentive but they do get busy once they open. Then during our recent visit last week, we ordered Masa for 2 combo fish only (pictured) 16 sashimi, couple of sliced shellfish, 9 sushi pieces and 2 rolls: spicy tuna and california roll w/ unagi topped, and miso soup and house salad. The fish was so fresh, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Then we got ohitashi and kimchi-ae to go. If you're looking for authentic Japanese restaurant, this is it. Matsuri has been around as long as I can remember. They have some of the best sushi anywhere I have ever been. The menu is large and it is hard to go wrong except when it comes to matters of personal taste. I like the eel and tofu, yellowtail cheek, #31 sashimi platter, some burdock and sake to start. Some of the staff can be curt at times but I will charge that to a difference in culture and enjoy the food. The sushi bar is open again and I miss the floor seating. Gone are the days of Matsuri shining bright. This restaurant used to be a gem. Unfortunately it has gone downhill. Initially, this used to be a traditional sushi restaurant with traditional sushi chefs. Now you have Lil hispanic dudes with blow outs producing half ass Publix grade sushi. Not traditional sushi bar grade quality. Nonetheless, you will receive a top grade $$$ bill. When we asked for menus, we were told to use the QR code on the table for ordering but I prefer a paper menu. We started with Saporo beer & diet coke to drink. We then ordered 2 Salmon skin hand rolls but were told they had no salmon for the rolls. I thought it was inadequate for a sushi restaurant because it's a basic hand roll but no matter. We got unagi hand roll instead, along with Toro sushi, Ikura Sushi & a trio of hamachi, tuna & salmon. Next we ordered 2 Spider rolls that arrived like California rolls - no sauce on them, no asparagusand no seaweed wrapped around them. Traditionally, a spider roll, even at a sushi buffet, has eel sauce over it and shows the soft shell crab legs on each end. The soft shell crab was almost non existent inside and the rolls were very small. Additionally, the attitude from our server when we asked for eel sauce was horrendous. Very rude woman. Terrible service. We ordered a Soba noodle soup and received a soba noodle bowl - no soup. When we complained, we were told by our horrendous server that she didn't hear us say soup. Didn't offer to change it tho. We ordered a Lunch Bento Box of Teriyaki Chicken - which I enjoyed parts of. The miso soup was good but was missing the seaweed & scallions. The salad was good, the tempura shrimp & veggies were very yummy and the California roll was enjoyable. Unfortunately, the chicken was dry, even though it was smothered in teriyaki sauce. To top it off you have signs in the restaurant telling you not to stay longer than 90 minutes! I came here specifically on my birthday specifically to eat as much sushi as I could possibly eat - and I did just that. I love Matsuri's sushi. It is always so fresh and the service is so fast. The ONLY thing about coming here is even if you have a reservation, you *will* wait at least half an hour. They are always packed and there is always a line out the door. It's a tight, smallish place so I wouldn't recommend bringing a big party. We were 5 and we felt pretty squished. Their AC isn't the best either, so don't wear a sweater. I started going to this place in the 90s before sushi was a thing. It was fantastic. After visiting again for the first time in easily 10 years I unfortunately can't still say the same thing. The place was PACKED. It still has that classy Japanese decor and it looks like there is always some sort of wait time which tells you a lot about how good their reputation is so I was really looking forward to it BUT the first sign I had that something was off was that when we were finally seated I realized just how jam-packed together the tables were. They are clearly milking their popularity for all it's worth. Then the miso soup came out cold and the sushi came out warm. Warm sushi sucks. And this was for a big platter so it wasn't cheap by any means. And the entire time it feels like they're hurrying you along so that they can get you out and sit the next paying customer. This review is long overdue. This is my go-to spot in Miami for sushi for two reasons: price and consistency. I'm huge into sashimi so fish quality is extremely important to me and Matsuri has never let me down. I order their Chirachi which is thick, fresh cuts of sashimi over warm sushi rice. You can upgrade for a couple extra dollars for top cut which is slightly better fish. Their selection of raw fish rolls are also really good and are filled with a generous amount of fish. One thing I'm not a fan of is the service. It's very hard to make a reservation and when I dine-in, I feel slightly rushed by staff to be in and out because they always have so many people waiting for a table. For that reason, I prefer to carry-out instead of dining-in. The restaurant is also slightly narrow in width and all of the tables are placed in a straight line and very close together. Our server was incredibly busy and made the mistake of giving us another table's sushi. She quickly corrected this once we brought it to her attention.
