I have been coming to platu for years now and have thought for a while that it is South Miami's best and most consistent restaurant. Recently, we moved to this area and have made this our go-to Thai restaurant and we also love their sashimi when you just want some great fresh slices of hamachi. Recently, I tried their pad thai. I am not normally a pad thai lover however, this pad thai is made with angel hair type noodles that really soak up the delicious sauce. Included in the chicken pad Thai is also perfectly cooked tofu and delicious pork rinds. Honestly, its so good that it can satisfy a pasta craving also. Their tom kha soup is also in my opinion the best in Miami. It's not overly watery or just coconut milk like most offerings. Pla tu makes it with fresh herbs and has a little bit of heat mixed in. It's so good. The pieces of chicken and mushrooms are also tender and not overly boiled like most tom kha soups. We also go for the sushi. Their sashimi is extremely fresh and we can never turn down some fresh sliced hamachi here. Lastly, yesterday we tried the Thai Donuts. I am not normally a fan but the waitress insisted we try and boy are we glad we did. They were warm pillows that melted in our mouths and we scarfed them down. I don't think I will ever visit again without ordering them. I love this place. Service is great. Food is consistently delicious and I will always be back. read more

We are regular at Pla-Tu , food and service are good. We have not gone for a while, the menu is somehow limited after going there so many time , I like variations in what I eat. I used to eat sushi, but the origin unless japanese isn't the type of seafood I want to venture. Salmon is farmed raise unless it is wild from Alaska. The way the fish are raised and feed doesn't attracts me to eat it raw, many bacteria are included while you eat it. Tuna same unless it is tuna belly which is deep frozen and japanese would be with Hamachi japanese, including Conch and uni from Baja California the only rolls that I would order. As the cost have risen on raw materials restaurant Chef are buying more affordable seafood to maximize food cost vs profitability. In retrospect I like the place but I could live without dining there as often as we used to, unless more choices became available. Bon appétit and bonne chance. read more

It's our 'Go To' place within walking distance of our home. The food is always excellent - we've never been disappointed by a dish, and the wait staff is professional, friendly, polite and quick. We've eaten both indoors and outdoors and would recommend indoors, certainly as it gets warmer. The restaurant is on Sunset Dr., so you contend with the passing cars. The decor is not especially Thai, but the food more than makes up for any shortcomings in that regard. Portions are tapas-sized, and great for sharing. One of my favorites is the Green Papaya Salad! I'm a hard critique for Thai food, giving this a solid 4 star but this spot did not disappoint. I have to give them a shoutout for the appetizers! Specially the ahi tuna and sautéed pork! Both dishes were fresh and unique in flavor and I would surely return just for those! As for the red curry it completely took care of my craving but it did not taste as authentic as I've experienced in other locations. So if you're looking for a decent curry fix it will do the job and overall I would give it a solid 4! I also would have loved to have other curry options overall! Pad Thai was not traditional but the crispy tofu and pork rinds were a great touch! For end the show the Thai donuts were delicious you will not want to skip out these!! Came here on a Saturday night with a gf of mine and they were pretty busy! Thankfully there was no wait though and we were seated right away. To share we ordered the Hamachi Jalapeño appetizer based on the recommendation from our server. She steered us well because we really enjoyed it. As my sushi roll I ordered the Miami White. I thought it was really good. I wish I was more hungry to order another roll, but that's a reason to come back! For dessert we ordered Thai Donuts and they were absolutely delicious. Perfect end to the meal. I would come back here to try more items off the menu. Just a note, they didn't have liquor, just beer and sake. I got a lychee sake and it was pretty good. read more

We sat outside as it was really freezing inside the restaurant. The street noise is there constantly however it isn't too bad. The food was very good however we had really weird service... She took our order and the spots came out pretty quickly. Fried our stickers and siu mai. Then two of the four entrees came out, the pad kee mao and the tuna poke bowl. The other two entrees were sushi rolls and they took another 15 minutes and two times we checked with the server. The apps were fine - nothing spectacular. The siu mai should have been a lot hotter, they were barely warm. The pad kee mao was excellent, good spice level and flavorful. Nice texture on the big rice noodles. Of course the shrimp had the tails on them! Why do restaurants key serving shrimp with tails on them? So aggravating! The black dragon roll was okay, seemed dry and not as fresh as it should have been. The eel was super thin and didn't seem that fresh. The Fabulous roll had fried shrimp and avocado inside and was topped with chopped fish in a kimchi truffle sauce. It sounded weird however the flavor was really good and it was nice and spicy. They need to work on their entree timing if offering if this place is going to make it. read more

Unearthed another GEM! Mom & Pop Thai & Sushi. Nestled in the heart of South Miami, not huge but large enough, great Service. For Appetizers we had crispy pork belly, Hamachi Jalapeño, shishito peppers, all three amazing although I prefer naked shishito, theirs is tempura, still great. Entree I had the slow cooked pork belly curry, a traditional dish from the Northern Region. The sauce was so flavorful and delicious, never had anything similar before. Came for dinner a couple nights ago with an out of town guest who grew up nearby. He was shocked to find a restaurant in this side of US1. I think he took a video of the area since we originally sat outside because inside was packed. Luckily a table became available inside before the mosquitoes ate us alive! We ordered the following for 3 adults and 2 kids: Crispy tuna rice cake Thai crispy chicken wings Bang bang shrimp Fried oysters Some special homemade dumplings French fries that had a fancy name Shrimp pad thai (comes with a few pieces of chicharrones) Bad boy roll Tuna mango roll Another roll with shrimp tempura & some kind of torched fish and a lot of crispy shallots on top (not sure if it was a special) Khao Man Gai Khan Moo Krob We had a little bit of the chicken and rice leftover but we ate it all!! Absolutely delicious dining experience! The staff were very attentive and kind. We ordered the salmon lab, crispy tuna rice cake, papaya salad, spicy yellow tail roll, three kingdoms roll, eel roll, and shrimp tempura roll. All the fish was exceptionally fresh and flavors were delightful. My only issue was the lack of ventilation inside, and surprisingly, outside. WOW! I'm blown away by the creativity of the food items on this menu! This was our first time here and definitely won't be our last. Everything we ordered was top notch / finger-licking delicious. Kai was our server and she was so upbeat, knowledgeable, kind and you could tell how much pride she took in her role. We got the Angel Star, the Summer Fresh Roll, Thai Chicken Coconut Noodles, Salmon Ikura Bowl, and Yellowtail Sushi and we licked our bowls and plates clean. We can't wait to come back to try everything else on the menu. Pla-Tu is my new favorite place to eat. This review and visit is mostly based on their sushi- unfortunately I wouldn't recommend it. To start, we got the hamachi jalapeño. It had a little kick to it but was bearable. It was good, but not better or more fresh than other places around town. We got 2 rolls: the Miami White and Salmon Truffle. Both were highly recommended by the waitress. We did not like the salmon truffle. The flavors just did not mesh well. I think they tried too hard to be creative and it just didn't work. The Miami White was fine. It did have a nice lemony/zesty flavor to it. I didn't think it was spicy. Nothing unique that I'd be back for. We also got the bao buns with Korean chicken- pretty good but very spicy. I can usually tolerate a medium spice level but this was beyond that. The bao bun flavor was good, not the best I've ever had, but overall good. The food had a nice presentation and was delivered quickly. The service was fine, though our waitress seemed to try to rush us out of there. It was a Tuesday night around 8pm when we arrived (they closed at 10). It's small inside, but it was clean. Maybe the Thai food is better but I wouldn't recommend making it a stop just for sushi. read more

Went on a Sunday night for dinner and it was packed! Such a cute hidden place in the Sunset area. We were seated in about 20 mins. We ordered some sake, then got apps (Shumai and the papaya salad). Then ordered the Sugar Mama and Black Dragon. Omg so delicious and melted in your mouth. There are definitely some more dishes that I would love to try out. Everything is very reasonably priced. It's all tapas style so everyone can share. There is also a parking garage around the corner for customers of the resturant which is convenient. Soon to be back for this hole in the wall! read more

Tl:dr the Korean Fried Chicken is delicious! Service is incredible!! I was at Baptist South Miami with my fiancé post-labor and needed a late-evening meal. We were craving Korean fried chicken and I randomly selected Pla-Tu to order from. Uber arrived and they brought the wrong order. I called Pla-Tu and one of the employees (or maybe owner??) assured me that she would personally remake the order and drive it to me. The food I received was so fresh and delicious. The food is great, but they have cut the portions down to insulting levels. The 3 kings Roll is tiny, laughable tiny and it's $18!!?? The eel hand roll is the size of a Swiss Miss roll, they will lose long time customers doing this. Normally it's full, but I noticed that it has been empty lately and now I know why. read more

Normally most sashimi you find isn't sliced correctly. You get big pieces or uneven cuts but this spot has the most thinly sliced fish and it's of quality too! I ordered 2 hamachi jalapeños, the Korean fried chicken and the pad Thai. The Korean fried chicken I'm so happy came in 4 pieces. Normally you're overwhelmed with spices and sauces but this was dressed beautifully! With a lettuce garnish underneath. Now the pad Thai, it was so incredible. There was a side of sprouts and noodles hot enough for you to mix them together to soften them AND there was a side of chicharron! Uffff and the best part was I showed up 15 min before closing and they still let me sit down and have my first meal here. I can't wait to come back. Hands down the best sushi in Miami! Everything we tried was beyond delicious. The summer roll was so fresh and flavorful, the tuna crispy rice was perfectly done, and the Golfer Guard roll might just be the best flavored roll I've ever had. We also tried the Khao Soi chicken (our absolute favorite!)--so rich, comforting, and full of flavor.
