The standard is set high with Matsy's. Warm and inviting, yes we opted dining against the fireplace. Started off with the full bar choices. A menu not compromised in any way with options for anyone. The house salad and fresh baked bread started the meal off with a follow up consisting of the most succulent and tender ribeye steaks I think we've ever eaten overall the meal was amazing. An old diner in Ontario, home to local folks. The staff was friendly and ambience was okay, maybe dated a touch. I ordered the half plate of finger steaks. It comes with a two sides and a salad. I chose the twice baked potato. The finger steaks were great and the potato was pretty good. The green beans were fried with onion slices. The salad was a simple Caesar, but an ample amount of it. Not a bad meal for the price, and I didn't finish all of it. The food took a while to come out and it was fairly busy, but worth the wait. read more

Had dinner in here last night atmosphere was nice neat and seemed clean. We had a minor issue with our glasses. We sat by fireplace. The menu was one page that's how you can tell the food will be good lol. We were definitely not let down the food was excellent from the salads freshness and tangy sweet dressing to the freshly baked bread. I ordered the ribeye that was cooked to perfection. The service was good too. I have to say they would have gotten a 5 star rating if they would put their lights on a dimmer switch or change out their bulbs to warm light bulbs. Silverware could be upgraded. And we had to take our bill up to pay. But we will definitely go back for more the food for all four of us was excellent. Hats off to the chef!!! read more

We weren't expecting a fine dining experience from the looks of the outside of establishment. Felt more like a coffee shop verses a fine dining restaurant! The food was excellent! My husband had a steak with a loaded potato and veggies. He said the steak was the best one he's had in years! Cooked perfectly and tasted great! I had the shrimp prawns, potato and veggies. Had lunch here, nice, bright, clean. It was a Wednesday so the Lunch Special was Mafa Chicken, Fried Rice, and Fried Cabbage for $7.95. I had to have the Mafa Chicken as the legend has the origin of that dish as a sister of an old family friend when she worked at the EastSide Cafe, many years ago. I usually get my fix for Mafa Chicken at Lil' Orphan Annies in Caldwell, as the owners there came from The EastSide Cafe. I have always considered that to be the "authentic" recipe, but, too be honest, I was quite young the last time we ever ate at the EastSide. Matsy's Mafa was a bit light in colour, not real flavourful in the batter/breading. Also, all white meat. I think Orphan Annies has better Mafa Chicken, and, I think if one finds the old cookbook that is floating around Eastern Oregon/Payette/Washington County, the recipe is available for home preparation with more flavour. Matsy's did serve large portions, good service, clean atmosphere. No complaints, but, the search continues for the best Mafa Chicken. read more

I had a quick overnight trip in Ontario, and I went here at about 8pm on a Saturday night after it was recommended to me by the hotel manager. The restaurant was empty, but I felt at home. The waitress was very friendly and the service was quick. I ordered the ribeye (which is cut in house) with the twice baked potato. The meal came with a basic house salad, with a delicious vinaigrette. It was served in a large bowl "family style". It also came with 4 slices of warm bread (soft and yummy). Then the ribeye came... OMG the steak was the size of my plate! I ordered a medium and it was cooked to perfection. It is one of the best steaks I have ever had at a restaurant. Seasoned just right and juicy. The twice baked potato was loaded with cheese and bacon bits ( and I mean real bacon, not bacos!). It had a crunchy top from being broiled I. The oven, which I prefer. The veggies were OK. The carrots were a little underdone, but not bad. Pall the veggies were buttery and tasted good. Overall.. Excellent meal and service... For only $15.95! I highly recommend this place. I am actually quite surprised it wasn't a full house and the previous reviews. Give it a try, you won't regret it! read more

Went to Matsy's with my family for dinner. My brother-in-law and I are usually the less critical of the bunch but wow.... It took 15 minutes to get a menu. Margarita was horrific. The Alfredo sauce tasted like a powdered mix that wasn't mixed all the way. Shrimp pasta comes with the tails on them so you have to play in your food. Pot stickers were crunchy. Cute little family restaurant though. Mixture of Oriental and American food. read more

I read the only one review for this place and I don't think it should be on Yelp with just rating of 2. This is a somewhat unique place as their other business is catering so I suspect they use the restaurant to try things out and see how well it flies. I had a flatiron steak that was cooked perfectly with just a slight pink in the thick part. Sorry folks, I'm not a rare guy. The portion was ample but not a gigantic portion. I had a baked (Idaho I'm sure) potato that was perfectly done and the correct flakiness for "bakers". The fresh vegetables were ok but not perfect. They consisted of carrot slivers, squash, mushrooms and onions and because the squash cooks quickly the carrots were hardly cooked and not very tasty. The salad is served family style in one bowl with a vinegarette dressing already applied. It was a very very delicious house dressing and the salad was very good. We wanted more after we were done. The restaurant is only open for a few hours for lunch and from 5pm to 9pm for dinner 5 days a week. If I remember correctly they are closed Mon. and Tue. The dinner menu had fresh salmon & halibut on this visit. The halibut could be cooked any way you wanted. The menu had other seafood dishes and many steak dishes along with BBQ ribs and prime rib. I always get the sirloin here and it is usually very thick and tender. A friend got the rib eye and it was thin but she said it was good. The salad is served family style with their unique dressing. Slightly sweet( but not overly) and delicious. Salad comes with lots of bread and butter. I had the baked potato and veggies as my sides. The veggies are yellow and green squash, onion and carrots. My husband asked for no potato and add extra veggies. The service was prompt. The prices are reasonable. The menu is pretty big. Good place. read more

The food is a really low quality. I ordered the Chicken Alfredo. I will say the chicken itself wasn't too bad. The noodles were fine (hard to mess up). The Alfredo sauce tasted just like Prego's Alfredo sauce. My meal also came with vegetables & the vegetable I got was corn on the cob (?¿). This place is the best Steak House around! We were referred there for New Year's Eve Prime Rib and were stunned that this place existed! We had no idea! The food was high quality! The service is the best! My husband and I go here twice a month now for "Date Night!" The Seafood Fettuccine is so good and they don't skimp on the fish! Don't order a soft drink because my Sierra Mist tasted awful (maybe low quality water or something was wrong with the machine). Are lunch there today, and was REALLY disappointed. The fried rice was cold. The kung pao chicken was not recognizable as such. The chow mein had broccoli in it which was cooked past the point of being soft. Water was served in small drink glasses, and one glass was all we were able to get during the meal.
