May 10, 2026 was our second time Dining at Mackey's, arriving late. Last time we got in just before the dining room locked up. Tonight, as Sweet D touched the handle, the door was locked. But...the basement bar keeps the grill open until 1 a.m. Service was excellent, polite, friendly, helpful. They have a good Non-Alcoholic beer selection. We each got a Guinness NA. We ordered a steak sandwich with tater tos, adding a side salad. The tots were crispy golden. The salad was fresh, crouton-y with fresh tiny tomatoes, cucumber and grated cheeses. Listen ya mugs, I've been ta dis joint more times then Carter's got liver pills and dis is very good grub! I was there again today. I told em' I should get a free hat much as I tell my pals ta go eat in da joint. The babe waiting on us couldn't do it .. don't matter I'll eat here when I pass thru Ontario anyhow. The Irish Red ain't bad if yas has a driver. (It's way way good!) But on the side a this and almost as important as da food is the servers here. Never been one that was anything less than absolutely professional, got my order right and was cordial and warm. Every dang time! This is no bunk. I am happy to part with some a my cabbage here. If yer drifting through Ontario Oregon it's duck soup to pull the ol' boiler off the hiway for an hour or so, gas up, and fill yer ownself up at Mackey's at the same time. I never had anything I didn't like off the menu. Look around when yer in dis joint. Might see Hammer and a couple of his brothers sucking down a lil' grub, you nevah know. Wanted to spend the afternoon in Ontario and this spot popped up with great reviews so we decided to give it a try. The service was great- super friendly, everything came out quickly and they do offer a discount if you pay cash. The place itself is super cute (Irish pub) and it was busy, which was nice to see. They have outdoor and indoor seating. The food itself wasn't our favorite- they do have lots of traditional Irish dishes, which was cool, just not our personal favorite. The potato skins and fries were our favorite thing for sure. If you're in the area, it is in a good location, so feel free to give them a try, even just for the amazing service. read more

Excellent! Stopped in on long road trip, was skeptical based on outside appearance. Late Sunday so pretty empty, low light made the place look a little dingy. Boy was I wrong! We came here for my dad's 70th birthday. When you first show up, the building is very misleading. It looks smaller on the outside but it has a lot of room on the inside. Looks a little rundown but I think it adds to the charm a little. The staff were all very nice and treated us well. I got the fish and chips, mom got the patty melt, dad got the ribeye, and my husband got the full rack of ribs with regular and Jameson BBQ sauce. Everything was very tasty. Pretty large portions as well. My mom loved her patty melt and my dad said it was one of thevbest ribeye's he has ever had. I loved the fries. The fish wasnt as crispy as I hoped it would be and was pretty soggy but still flavorful. We were sat in a little alcove type spot which, if you have a larger group and placed near any other table, it is a little hard to hear the people at my table with it being such a confined space. Not great American choices, but that's probably not why you'd come here anyway. Dimly lit dining rooms, feels a little claustrophobic, but good service and the food is still on the cheaper side of fancy places like Olive Garden. You can pay 20 bucks a plate if you really want to, but for affordability, and a change up of typical restaurant dining, pretty solid place. read more

I sat in the pub area and ordered the sweet savory salad but replaced the raspberry vinaigrette with bleu cheese dressing and added steak. This salad exceeded any expectation. It was cooked to medium and seasoned to perfection. The server juggled both serving the bar and tables and did amazing. I wouldn't hesitate to come back. read more

Far exceeded my expectations. My wife and I travel lots and eat out often, the food here was some of the very best we have had anywhere. I had the steak sandwich and my wife chose the reuben with onion rings. They were fantastic, the servings were huge and the price VERY reasonable. We did not run into any service staff that was not friendly and helpful. We drove 30 miles to visit this place and will not hesitate to take others. ( my only suggestion would be perhaps a little more attention to cleanliness and paint touchup) read more

Unlike most restaurants in Ontario, Mackey's is open past 8pm. There's plenty of street park and a giant lot across the street just in case. The inside is decorated with traditional Irish decor and gives a pub like feel. We had to wait a few minutes to be seated because it looked like the hostess was also a server. Once we were sat, our server came and took our order. They have a pretty decent selection on their menu, and there is something that everyone will eat. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer, and it wasn't that great. They were pretty thick strips and not very crunchy. For out entrées we ordered the fish and chips which was very very good. You can tell the fish is hand breaded on site, and it actually has flavor. The fries were also pretty good, thanks to the delicious fry sauce. We also ordered the Jameson Chicken with a loaded baked potato and broccoli. The sides were good, but the chicken stole the show. It was juicy, and the spinich artichoke filling was creamy and flavorful. The sauce though! I don't know how to describe it but you have to try it for yourself. If you haven't eaten at this place you are SO missing out. Found them here on Yelp and took the advice and had the Jameson Chicken. Only problem I may never be willing to try anything else. I can't say enough good stuff about the staff. She was constantly checking in on us without making me feel overly checked on if you know what I mean. I've been to Mackey's exactly twice. The reason I've only been twice is because I've only had the opportunity to go twice since I work over the road. They have not let me down either time. This most recent time I got their shepherd's pie, which,unlike most places that advertise it, actually has lamb. And it was delicious. And inexpensive. I was there for some time, so later I got the Celtic combo, consisting of potato skins, steak strips, and chicken strips. Also very good. The service is great down in the pub, which is the only part I've visited. I haven't eaten in the restaurant upstairs. It's small and dark and cozy down there. I love it. Sometimes they even have live music on the patio upstairs. My favourite thing about this place is the Wall o'Whisky™. All the Irish whisky one's dark and twisted little heart could desire. This family restaurant has Irish fare and the ambiance you would expect: a lot of green, shamrocks, and random memorabilia. The service depends mainly on what waitress you get. Three-quarters of them are charming, hard-working ladies, and a quarter are kind of surly. The food varies in quality and is inconsistent. I got shepherd's pie last time, and whoever was cooking it decided to glob on four times the cheese to make up for the fact there was almost no mash. It was practically cheese-covered ground beef. Mackey's feels like a pub. I come to Ontario twice a year to fish Owyhee River. I always have dinner at Mackey's. The service is consistently good. Some them have been here since I started fishing the Owyhee 6-years ago. I come here for the meat. All the steaks I've had here have been cooked just the way I ordered medium rare. The corn beef and cabbage I had last year was the largest portion I ever had and the brisket was soft and moist. Most of their beer is local or from Oregon at least.
