I've been with Dr. Raffinan for 20 years. I love him because he's a terrific carrying human being. His staff is equally just as attentive, and groovy The reason I'm still around is because of his close observations, thorough questioning and paying attention to details. With thorough workups, he'll get the proper diagnosis, and has yet to be wrong about any of my cases. When I caught a severe case of COVID, it messed me up pretty badly. I was astounded about how knowledgeable he was. His recommendations on what I should do literally saved my life, because he educated me about where I needed to go and what needed to be done. He explains things to you with simplicity so you can understand. While he's also concerned about your emotional well-being, that's a unique quality in a physician because, he knows that emotional instability can affect you physically leading to medical issues. Not sure how this doctor got positive reviews. He's become more cynical and rude over the years. I was very ill on multiple occasions and he constantly blamed it on anxiety. Turned out he misdiagnosed my symptoms and I ended up getting even sicker before finally seeing a specialist who diagnosed me with an autoimmune disease. And even after I had a follow up with him, he never once apologized. He makes a diagnosis based on his feelings and is very condescending. At times, he even offers very odd advice having nothing to do with the reason for the visit. I cannot say I've had any positive encounters with him over the last four years. read more

Rude, condescending and seems to have no idea what he's talking about. I'm shocked by all the positive reviews he has, I left my first appointment feeling like he thought I was a silly little girl inventing problems. (I'm 33) For my 10 year long stomach issues, which I've long thought were a result of a fiber issue, he suggested exercising 5x a week (not practical) and a fiber rich breakfast (which unsurprisingly made things worse). On a second trip, for fainting, severe abdominal pain and a 3 day long 103 degree fever, he told me I was dehydrated and overtaking advil (I wasn't). He ran a urine test but told me Pepcid AC would calm all my issues. I nearly fainted leaving his office and 5 days later was diagnosed with a UTI (guess my symptoms weren't worthy of a lab rush request from him). I'd rather pay double at urgent care then deal with him ever again. read more

I felt that this was inappropriate and unprofessional. I felt it was imperative to report this in the hopes that he might read this review and adjust his choice of words with patients accordingly. The first time I met Dr Raffinan I thought he was good. The second time I met him he was busy he rushed me through the appointment. I asked if he knew about my condition and he said "if you'd ever stop talking I'd tell you." I made the appointment for pre-approval paperwork. That was the only reason for the appointment. He said he'd send it which I confirmed at the front desk as I left. I went in for the operation (didn't sleep because I was nervous and had to show up at 7am.) I was in the hospital in a gown waiting three hours but Dr Raffinan didn't and wouldn't send the paperwork over. The girl helping me said "I don't know why he lied but he said you never went in for the paperwork." I had to leave the hospital and not get the operation. Great General physician with 2 locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn (brand new office in Broadway- nice space). When it's your time to see him, he takes his time and you never feel rushed (unlike many other MDs in Manhattan). He's informative and explains everything in high detail and encourages dialogue. Not only is he highly knowledgeable but very down to earth and you have a sense he is truly sympathetic toward his patients. Computer based system and eclinical web definitely a big plus. read more

I saw Dr. Raffinan a couple of weeks ago for my routine annual physical. This was my first time in a doctor's office in two years and I sincerely wish I had known about Dr. Raffinan sooner. This was quite possibly the most pleasant, thorough, informative doctor's appointment I've ever had in my entire life. I'm usually quite wary of most doctors because they're usually unmotivated and very rote in bedside manner with unoriginal views, and lackluster personalities--Raffinan, the exact opposite. I was LITERALLY taken aback by how well I was treated. The entire time we spent together, he was engaged and offered great suggestions to improve my health and wellness. The doctor wasn't able to diagnose me with Lyme. I went to see him at least 5 times with all sorts of symptoms and it NEVER occured to him to check for Lyme plus he is awkward as hell and makes you feel like your are an idiot when he speaks to you! Dr. Raffinan is a great doctor as many people have mentioned on this site (and unfortunately a bunch of good reviews are filtered). He's very thorough and doesn't rush through an appointment. I'm sad his Brooklyn offices are closing (I live in bk), but luckily his Manhattan location is very close to my workplace. I recently had a physical, he did full blood work and I got my booster shots. Plus, he told me tips on how to reach my goal in toning my body besides the running I've been doing. I also have asthma and he gave me an alternative medication in consideration of my long term health and showed me the discount website that I filled out in the office (only one other doctor has ever done that for me). What I really like is that he explains everything, which is important to me. He definitely does the PSA stuff, but hey, that's what doctor's do. Gotta remind you! I'd take any advice from him since he looks younger than he is and in great shape. His staff is also very kind. I get nauseous whenever I have my blood drawn and they accomodated. Of course, the webportal is awesome and he sent in my prescriptions while we were chatting. It's true that getting an appointments might be up to a month to schedule, but they accommodate emergencies and often people cancel so you can get in earlier if you check in. read more

He was able to see me on the day I called for an appointment. I was quickly diagnosed and given some recommendations for treatment. I have been a patient of Dr. Raffinan's for at least 5 years. He is the BEST! The only negative thing I can say is that he moved out of his Park Slope office. He's very relaxed and spends a lot of time with his patients. His portal is great because you can request refills and schedule appointments in the off hours when most doctor's offices are closed, yet it's the only time we can get to these things. He personally answers your requests through the portal (weekends as well). Any time he has had to refer me, I've found that his referrals are also great doctors with the same comfortable personality. The best doctor I've ever had. I've never felt rushed. He takes his time with each patient. The nurses are great, too. I like that Dr. R doesn't just quickly prescribe a drug, but instead also looks at lifestyle and adjustments to be made with diet, exercise, etc. The receptionists are nice and efficient. I want to start this review by prefacing that Dr. Raffinan is a great doctor. However it is clear the office managers here do not respect the patients like he does. I had an appointment for 8 AM on a Friday. Once I got into my car, I realized I was going to be 15-20 minutes late to my appointment due to unforeseen traffic. I immediately began calling the office at 8 AM when they opened to let them know I'd be late for my appointment. I called a total of 4 times, and nobody picked up. I even left a voice message, and got no return call. I finally get to the building 20 minutes later and receive a call saying I'm a "no-show" and have to wait until 11:30 AM. After explaining the situation to the woman and asking if they could take me at 8:30-9:30 because I could wait, she said no we can't you were 20 minutes late and now you have to wait until 11:30. I have been a patient of Dr. Raffinan's for 5 years now and my sister was his patient for many years before that. I was shocked that his employees were not even willing to work with me, and completely blamed me for not showing up even though I had made many attempts to inform them and try to fix the situation. Sadly, I will not be going back to this doctor and will look to find a better, kinder physicians office. If you want to keep your patients happy and provide the support they need, it should start with all employees and not just the physicians. read more

It's hard to find a good doctor in NYC. It really is. And it's even harder to get an appointment with one. I did one of those searches through my insurance for who was covered in my plan, and Dr. Raffinan popped up, showed excellent Yelp reviews, and was well located for me geographically. I called for an appointment, and I wasn't able to get one immediately - the soonest one was 2 months away. But I took the appointment, thinking it was smart to find a good doctor and that, in future years, I would just book early. 7 weeks roll by and I get a telephone call a week before my appointment. It's Dr. Raffinan's secretary! And she's calling to say that Dr. Raffinan won't see me! He won't take new patients with my health insurance. Gee... that's funny because I ran my insurance by them when I made the appointment. And even though they let me make the appointment and sit around for 2 months waiting to see Dr. Raffinan, they didn't actually bother to check whether or not my health insurance was spendy enough for their practice. Bottom line: (1) they cancelled my appointment without apology even after a 2 month wait; and (2) the receptionist was rude about it. read more

Wowww. The problem with going to Dr. Raffinan is that I now will have ridiculously high expectations for all other doctors. If I could give him ten stars, I would. I JUST started coming here. I put off finding a PCP forever, but then when I hurt my ankle running, I couldn't put it off anymore. I stumbled across his reviews, and amazingly got an appointment for two days later due to a cancellation. (Though why anyone would cancel is beyond me.) This was different than any other doctor's appointment I had ever had. I waited for no more than five minutes before the nurse took me into a room for my vitals. He came into the room seriously not even two minutes later. And he greeted me with, "Well, I saw you hop up a few minutes ago-- which is good news! How's the ankle?" I HAD NEVER MET HIM BEFORE!! He had read up on my online questionnaire and knew everything already! It was amazing. And since I was a new patient, he spent a good deal of time getting to know me: what my lifestyle was like, what I ate, what I did for a living, and even down to what my favorite things to do at the gym were. The next day, he himself personally messaged me through the patient portal to tell me the results of my tests and to talk about my ankle. I really, really felt that this was top notch, all around treatment. He actually does care about each and every patient. I cannot believe that people like him exist-- let alone on Wall Street. As I was walking out, I felt as if I had just spent an hour in some fictional perfect little small town. Then I looked down the street and saw the Woolworth Building and was reminded differently. Everything is done through the patient portal-- which maximizes efficiency. You request appointments, ask questions, and fill out your medical history through the portal before coming in. Then, when you get in, everyone is on the same page. Amazing. I cannot recommend him highly enough. All other doctors should aspire to be like him. read more

Yes...Dr Raffinan is a great doctor. All reviews are correct around hsi skillset, bedside manner, etc. However, there is continuously a 3+ month wait for appointments. Sure, he responds to emergencies, but anything else requires a significant wait. Dr Raffinan....what a shame to say goodbye to you, but I will trust my health with a doctor who doesn't take on too many patients and can respond to patient needs in a more timely manner. read more

Dr. Raffinan took an alternate approach and treated the trigger rather than the result keeping her off the heavy stuff (she was 5). Based on my first and only visit, doctor was great. He was prompt, attentive and didn't make me feel rushed. He took care to answer all my questions and address my concerns. Bedside manners are excellent and he instilled confidence that he knew what he was doing. The front office was less than smooth. The person I spoke with when I called to make the the appointment gave me the wrong time by 15 minutes and she couldn't get down my email address correctly after I called her and made several attempts. Also, not sure what happened but they didn't forward my insurance information to the lab so I ended up getting a bill and had to call them directly to clear up the confusion. Turned out that my information wasn't forwarded properly, if at all. Not a big deal as it didn't impact my schedule that much - but somewhat annoying to have to correct. If you don't mind dealing with mediocre front office staff in exchange for a good family physician, I would recommend. Also I would recommend booking appointments online or through zocdoc rather than calling them. read more

I first met Dr.Raffinan when he was working at the Clinton Walk-in Clinic in Brooklyn. I immediately realized that he was one special doctor. Echoing what others have said, Dr. Raffinan is a young doctor who takes time to listen and prefers to treat illnesses with healthy lifestyle choices rather than drugs. He has a well-run office, good bedside manner, seems very informed, and follow ups are easy. I first visited to get diagnosed for chest pains, fearing something heart-related. Dr. Raffinan did a full "traditional" exam including blood work and sending me in for a chest x-ray while at the same time exploring possible causes like physical and emotional stress. The test results all ended up showing me relatively healthy but stressed, so I was glad he didn't jump straight to prescriptions. When I returned for a follow-up visit with a friend's suggested diagnosis of an obscure condition, he took time to hear me out and discuss it as a possible condition. I imagine the whole "my friend / internet told me it might be X" conversation is one of the more annoying parts of a doctor's day, but he took it all in stride, provided informed feedback, and asked diagnostic questions to assess it as a real possibility. I give him bonus points for a computer-based communication system so patient can log in and see their info (including the doctor's notes from the visit), short waits, and a very friendly nursing / admin staff. read more

Just went for my first appointment and had a great experience. You have to fill out a questionnaire before you go if you're going for a physical, which I found extremely helpful. WARNING TO PATIENTS: I decided to go to Dr. Raffinan for the first time to get an annual physical exam because he's close to my office and is in-network through my insurance. My insurance covers physical exam at 100% ie I don't have a copay. However, the office charged me a $30 copay after the visit. When I checked with my insurance on why this happened, I was told that the Dr submitted a claim for a physical exam as well as an office visit. I've had the same insurance for many years and have received annual physicals from different doctors and have never had this happen to me before. I asked my insurance if this was legal and they said that it unfortunately was but considered it "highly unethical" (insurance's words, not mine) to do so. They further explained that the doctor was essentially "douple dipping" and charging the patient numerous times for the same visit. When I view the claim on my insurance's website, I get the following note about the charge: "You do not have to pay this. When more than one procedure is done on the same date, the main service is considered at 100% of the negotiated rate." This further proves that I shouldn't have been charged for the office visit since my only reason for going was to get a physical. I've called the office 5 times now to try to get a refund and I have yet to go beyond the person at the front desk. Each time they assure me that someone from accounting will call me back to resolve this problem but this has yet to happen. In the grand scheme of things, $30 is not a lot of money but what really annoys and saddens me about Dr Raffinan and his staff is the fact that they coded my visit for numerous other things to get more money from his patient. So regardless of whether your insurance has a copay for annual physical exams, be prepared to pay extra for your visit. read more
