On our first visit to Playa Bowls, the workers were so patient and informative (and cheerful!), helping us with our order and answering questions we had (for example, possible substitutions of ingredients to make the bowls Vegan). The menu that is on the wall is so varied and expansive that at first, ordering can seem daunting. However, after their explanations, our options became clearer. I suggest looking at their menu at playabowls.com before going. (For Vegans, generally: Blueberry Flax Granola can be changed to Vegan/Gluten Free Granola for 50¢, Whey Chocolate or Vanilla Protein can be changed to Vegan Chocolate or Vanilla Protein. Honey can be removed from orders. And the Coco-Whip is Vegan.) The workers pride themselves on the artistry of the bowls! So many times at other fast food or fast-casual restaurants, the food that is served looks nothing like the photographs in the advertising. However, at Playa Bowls in Kalamazoo, the bowls often look better than the advertisements! Because we had such a wonderful time and the bowls were so delicious, we returned multiple times over the next couple of weeks. Sometimes the workers were the same, sometimes they were different, but every time, the people there provided us with the same warm and welcoming experience and beautifully crafted bowls!

Based on the menu on the wall, we were going to order the strawberry chicken salad to go. Upon going to order, we were told that we had to fill out a paper specifying what ingredients should go into the salad. This was a little confusing as this was a menu item so the employee should know what you need to put into the salad, AnyWho. Once we were able to select our salad, the base the ingredients and choice of dressing. Our salad was made within 10 minutes. Overall, it was really good and the ingredients were fresh. I will say that the onions needed to be chopped up a little bit as they were way too big to be red onions and on a salad. We also appreciated the poppyseed dressing which was really fresh and complimented the spring greens on the salad. Overall, if you're looking for a fresh ingredient meal, this is a good place. We also noticed that they make smoothies and bowls and so I would give this a try out if you're looking for healthier options to dine.

I can only imagine that this place is still in business only because Happy Poochie has terrible…read morehours. I have never had any bad salads from there or from Caffe Tosi. I ordered a salad and quite a bit of the lettuce was wet and rotting, very mealy avocado, black hair on one of the croutons. And the supposed house ranch tastes like a bad shelf-stable ranch. I have never had a house dressing that does not taste fresh. $20 plus tip for this, never again. The chicken tastes like that packaged cooked chicken for salads from the grocery store. There was nothing good about this salad. They should be ashamed of selling this to people. I also had a bad online experience before not too long ago, and had no plans of even trying this place after that, but I was in the mood for a salad and thought maybe it would be a better experience this time. Experience from a few months ago... I attempted ordering from here and it did not go well. Instead of being reliable and staying present during their scheduled business hours, they decided to close early for a catering job. They did not update the Facebook page or the voicemail, and did not turn off online ordering. I show up for a curbside order. No answer when calling. I get out and see that they are closed and there is a sign on the door, so now I have to figure out something else for dinner. The owner keeps saying they did not receive the order. That is not my problem. You choose this third-party site to take your orders and collect your money. The order was placed directly on their website, but they use Square. A receipt with the order was emailed to me. The money was literally taken out of my account, so I do not understand what they are trying to argue. Square collects money for your orders, and then they give you the money. You are responsible for all of this. If you cannot handle online ordering properly, then do not use it. This is not difficult to understand. Instead of asking me to show proof of the online order and refunding me in cash, I was told I had to dispute this with my bank, which I did. What terrible customer service all around.

My two small critiques: (01) I didn't sense that the tofu was roasted as advertised, and (02) 2/4 rolls were stuck together, and my fillings partially spilled out. My two small praises: (01) the employee who made my roll did a stupendous job, and (02) all of the ingredients in my roll were fresh. Will I be back? You betcha!

This worked well, and the overall vibe of the restaurant from the ordering to the seating choices is quick service. Service: The restaurant was relatively slow due to being so newly opened, but the service was great. The staff worked hard to answer our questions to the best of their ability. Food: The menu had a few mixups with the things that were labeled gluten-free, and the staff seemed unclear what the answers were until another person (owner) could be available. This is critical for my friend not to be sick. In the end, my dining partner kind of did her best guessing and was happily correct. However, we will probably not be back together until they get that sorted out. It's not worth getting her sick. Pros: - Efficient - great choices - delicious beverages - The food was so good I dug in before I even snapped the picture Cons: - despite being labeled gluten-free on the menu, there were clearly some mixups - beverages were quite pricey

Luckily, they had a couple juices on hand for tasting purposes. Even after I tried a few I still had a hard time because I liked everything I tried! So there I was stuck in juice turmoil. I told the customer behind me to go ahead and they seemed like they knew their juices. They ordered a quick shot of a concentrated juice and then they were on their way. It sounded perfect. And it was. Being super tasty and super cool makes this a great hidden gem on the Mall.

Pretty scant on the reviews here, I feel it is my duty to spread the good word…read more Okay so first of all, the juice is tasty. Everything I've had here has been good. I've learned what my personal preferences are, and that's a big thing with making my juice purchase worthwhile. I seem to enjoy veggie based juices with a good hit of sweetness- like adding pineapple, lime, or apple. I don't enjoy juices with ginger, just my taste. My favorite juice on their current menu is "Raise the Barre", which is a green juice with some sweetness from fruit and a hint of spice from jalapenos (it's not hot). I've tried some of their natural snacks as well, like the fruit rolls and dehydrated tomato pizza bites. Again, all great. I would highly recommend anyone check out Juicy Leaf! They seem pretty active on social media- facebook and instagram, so check that out for menus and even some deals/ discounts I've seen. Gives you an idea of price, too. While I recommend this to everyone, I always warn/ inform people about price. I'm inclined to think that many people don't know the appropriate price point for these types of juices (Gee, a bottle of simply orange juice is $2 at meijer!). From what I've seen at other cold-pressed juice places, the prices here are pretty average. Remember that you're getting a whole load of fruits and veggies! 8oz are usually $5, 16oz are $9 for most juices. They do offer cleanses, too (not my thing though). Do note that their bottles note a warning regarding that they are not heat-processed, etc. May not be a good choice for someone sensitive to allergens in food- definitely ask the employees if you're concerned. I personally have never had an issue but just a note to keep in mind for any product of this nature, not just here! So all in all, I'm not mad at price. I do consider these juices a splurge for me personally, but I'm cheap and also consider buying coffee at a shop a splurge! Oh, they do offer coffee and warm drinks too. Employees are nice and knowledgeable. Definitely check it out!
