Found my new hair salon! Ever since moving to St. Louis, I have not really found a trustworthy stylist that I see my self going back to. I've been to at least 4 salons while living here and they were all 'meh.' So the last place I cut my hair was in Denver. Loved it however flying to Denver to just cut my hair is not sustainable! Services: I came here to see Kayla and she did a marvelous job! I have naturally dark hair cause i am Asian and i just don't like the way Asian hair turns into that orange/bronze color when you bayalage it or lighten it. Kayla used the color wheel to get past those colors i don't like and it took 4 hours! We did baby lights. Worth the 4 hours! It would not fade into those colors I don't like either. I also got a haircut and she did a splendid job. I felt so pretty and young. Most of all, my husband loves my new hair! Vibes: all positive ones. Kayla offered me wine, coffee, or water at the beginning and during the middle of my hair being processed. I declined cause your girl has a small bladder. Otherwise I would have totally enjoyed the compliments! I figure my post can probably help my Asian gals out there with darker hair especially if you wanted to bring some color without that orange look, now you know where to go! When I moved here from Chicago, I thought I might miss my hair stylist most of all, but I have now found a replacement. Matthew Robert salon took such good care of me, from the receptionist to the stylist, they were all great. I went in for a total new look, darker hair, over 10 inches cut off. I was very nervous, especially when Matt (one of the owners) got the flu and was unable to be my stylist. I ended up with Sam, and she did an amazing job! They spend so much time finding out exactly what you want and what would look best on you, that I don't see how it could go wrong. It seems Chris Z. stole my thunder! I've also stalked . . . err . . . followed Erin from her previous salon. After moving back to Missouri, Erin was the first stylist I went to and have stayed with ever since. She's really great and I've yet to have a bad cut or color from her - highly recommended. At previous salons when I've said I wanted to go blonde I've usually ended up more golden but Erin completely understood what I was going for and now I'm rocking a multi-hued blonde bob. We've just transitioned me to balayage highlights and I've a fan so far. The regrowth isn't as harsh and my head gets covered with plastic wrap which is a nice change from aluminum foil! The salon itself is super cute and the receptionist is always very friendly. They have a dedicated area for coloring, the perimeter of which is stacked with a myriad of periodicals for your reading pleasure. They even have a touch up station for your make up - I've never used it as I always go home after my evening appointment but my mom (who also goes to Erin) uses it quite a bit after her afternoon/morning appointments. read more

I've been going to MR for about four years. It is very close to my home so the convenience factor's great but I would drive an hour if I had to. They are so friendly, you have a fun time every visit. Natalie and anyone who is up front always has a smile on their face and very personable. Jessica is my "designer" for as long as I have hair! She's perfect. The staff is always doing cutting edge training but in my opinion Jessica is the cream of the crop. She actually travels around the country doing training for others. Plus she went to UofM. Go Blue!!! Prices are completely reasonable. I think even a little lower than they could be. The fact that everyone is beautiful is just a coincidence. They really know what they're doing! read more

The hairdresser did a great updo for my daughter. She also got her hair trimmed. The haircut was not so good. When we got home there was a chunk of hair longer then the rest that we had too cut off. Then the next day we found another part where we had to cut it again! Very beautiful decor and clean. Was not impressed with the hairdresser's personality though. Nobody wants to be pressured into getting a cut they don't want!! Getting your hair done at this salon is not cheap so I felt like I got ripped off BC if I am going to pay a lot of money for a haircut I expect too get that top notch quality in return. Excellent Service! I had a wonderful experience at this salon. I saw Curtis for a cut and color. He took time to figure out my style and talk to me about exactly what I wanted. Not to mention he is extremely knowledgable and very kind. All of the staff is friendly. They really take care of you here. After my cut & color I had my hair styled and then Curtis' assistant, Kelsey, offered to touch up my makeup afterward which was very nice. I have tried several salons in the Saint Louis area before discovering Azeza at the Matthew Roberts Color and Design Salon in Des Peres. I had been coloring my own hair but let her take over and I've been very pleased with how natural it is (she is a whiz at color!). But the best thing about her is how she cuts my hair to take advantage of the natural wave to my hair. I don't need to do any styling beyond putting a product in and scrunching it as it dries. I'm hooked and have referred several friends who all feel the same way. read more

I had never had my hair professionally colored before, and I found Matthew Robert Color + Design Salon online. A long-time Sun-In devotee, I wanted my already long, strong, healthy hair to be the same color as my roots so I could stop lightening and go back to my natural color, which is a very dark blonde. The ONLY REASON I paid for professional color was to avoid walking around with visible roots, which announce to the world, "hey, I am a fake blonde growing my hair out." I even explained that to the stylist, who insisted that she would match my natural color. My stylist was friendly and seemed competent and the service was pleasant. I paid extra for a conditioning treatment and a blow dry. Well, under the lights of the salon and with my hair down the color looked pretty, though I commented that it looked lighter than my natural color. The stylist insisted that the color was right, and the stylist who had assisted her complemented me profusely, and both ladies said that my hair looked completely natural. Unfortunately, when I pulled my hair back into my usual ponytail the next morning, the root line was clear-as-day visible. The hair around my forehead and the nape of my neck was dark brown, while the rest of my hair was a honey blonde. Rather than a nice, natural, uniform color, my hair looked as though I had used a copious amount of brown at-home boxed hair dye on my roots for some misguided reason. Needless to say I was very disappointed, as I had paid more than $100 just to avoid wandering around in public for two years with my roots showing. After my morning coffee I called the salon and left a message with the receptionist, who told me my stylist had some free time at 1:30 and that he would have her call me back. She called back, and I explained the situation--that my roots were clearly visible. When she answered me she was defensive, and barely managed to maintain a polite tone of voice. She pretty much told me that my roots were SUPPOSED to look like that, then spent 10 minutes explaining to me that my hair was already perfect, that she had matched the color absolutely correctly, and that I must be mistaken about the shade of my natural hair color. At first I politely disagreed, but she continued to tell me that she had done everything correctly. She did reluctantly agree to "take a look at it," but said she only had 45 minutes free that afternoon. I agreed to come in at 1:30. However, after a half-hour's worth of reflection, I decided that there was no way I would let an already defensive stylist try to explain to me in person why I should love my $100-plus hair coloring even though it is clearly wrong, and that I was not willing to trust her to re-color my hair even if she agreed to try to fix the problem. I decided to never set foot in the salon again, and I canceled my appointment. I will likely never have my hair professionally colored again after this experience, but if my vanity does once again get the best of me I will find another salon to fix Matthew Roberts' mistake. In summary: Do not patronize this salon. Its stylists do not care whether or not you are happy with your hair color. read more

This place is nice and staff is good but my stylist was awful. I spent $40 on the worst hair cut ever. It was a guy, I think Jared was his name. It was uneven, bulky and the lines weren't even straight. I have short, straight hair and just wanted a few layers. After I left I even went back because I knew it wasn't right and asked them to fix it. I told him exactly what I wanted. How it was bulky in certain parts and uneven lines. He tried to fix it but ended up making it worse. And he was super slow. I spent two hours on a simple trim of adding a few layers and it was still the worst... I went somewhere else to get it fixed (referred from a family member this time) and the stylist took before and after pics of my hair to use as an ad for her website saying "i fix bad haircuts." Ha so that should tell you something. She pulled down the front sides of my hair to check the evenness of the length and one side was an entire inch longer than the other! So uneven and NOT what I asked for. Don't go here! If you do, don't use Jared. read more

Staff is talented, trained and well skilled in hair design. Never felt rushed or shortchanged on time spent in booth. Salon well designed, sleek and very clean. I have been visiting this salon for a few years. The downfall is in the pricing. I know it costs money to train and educate staff on latest techniques on styling, however I feel they priced themselves out of the market. When I shelled out $220 for a cut and full highlights(this was BEFORE the tip) I realized that I needed to change salons. While I would never discourage someone from visiting this salon, I would feel obligated to warn them of the steep pricing. This salon is shady. I bought a Groupon for my teenage daughter to have a mini-makeover on her birthday. When I picked her up, they said I owed an extra $40.00 for services. My daughter was not informed that there would have been a charge or she would have said "no." I think it's pretty shady to perform a service on a teen without informing her of the cost. She knew color was included and didn't know the difference between semi-permanent hair color and foils! When I spoke to the owner, he said he could do nothing for me. I had my color done at the salon about eight weeks ago. The stylist talked me into me into doing a biolage. I admit that I did not follow my instincts of buyer beware. I should've asked if she had experience. And I should have asked the full price I just assumed I guess that it would be similar to having my hair fully highlighted and colored which typically with the haircut runs about 170 I've never paid any more than $200. It was clear from the beginning that the colors were not done properly and that part of it was Brassy and that the roots had not been touched properly. I've made an appointment to go back to get it fixed and then I was afraid to go back and have it ruined more. I now have what looks like four months of regrowth because the color was never applied to the roots properly I have a large brassy areas and other areas that are pure white and. Blending into one massive solid color. I went and had my hair trimmed recently somewhere else because the cut also was terrible. That stylist asked me if I had colored my hair myself. Imagine how shocked she was when I said I was charged $270! I am an out-of-town contractor and I feel I was taking advantage of as someone who would not be a regular visitor to this salon. read more

I have never been treated so unprofessionally and poorly. They ruined my hair and instead of offering to fix it they just offered to comp it and act as if it were no big deal. Never asked me if I would like to speak to a manger. When I called to make my appointment I asked for someone to specialized in perms. When I was in her chair she said she rarely did them, she also was working on my hair and another client at the same time. My hair is straight on one side and has some curl and frizz on the other side. I now have to pay someone to fix this mess if they even can fix it. It is horrendous. I left there in tears read more
