I paid full price plus tip for an adult haircut for my kiddo and asked for at least an inch off. I've included a picture of how much they actually cut, which was practically none. At the end I was asked how I liked it and I said not enough was taken off. The whole appointment with hair washing took 15 min. The finished look was the same as before. At least the staff were nice. A few previous haircuts at this place went okay, with the exception of one time where a different stylist didn't wash the hair but should have. This was my first time at Hair Theatre. It's a big place! I was welcomed as soon as I walked in the door. My appointment was with Emma. She greeted me right away, I filled out some necessary forms that they keep on file and she took me to her station. We talked about the cut I wanted; she washed my hair; did the cut; we talked over some products she had suggested; I chose which I wanted her to use and then she styled my hair. I loved it! So this review is very very very old (2017) but after getting my hair dyed at other salons, it made me realize how good of an experience I received during my time here. I originally called in requesting another colorist (I forgot the name) but since she was not available, the front desk offered another colorist instead. I yolo'd and accepted the appointment with the new colorist, Jayden. Jayden brought my virgin black hair to blonde and dyed it pink and magenta exactly like I requested. He was able to do the color in one session within a 3 hour span. He gave me confidence in his skill when he mentioned that he was very experienced in Asian hair. I also got to watch him give tips and instructions to the other stylists that came to view his work, which displayed the mentorship he provided. The total came out to be less than $250 for the project. He was also able to provide recommendations for shampoo and conditioner to preserve the new color in my hair. After I moved away from the Midwest, I went to salons that took over 5 hours to dye my hair, or charged me almost $500 and didn't even bring me to the color that I asked for. I was so livid at the last one and I really reminisce the experience I had here at this salon. I didn't know how good I had it here, and if I ever get the chance to return and get my hair done again, I would do it in a heartbeat. read more

My hair is naturally curly and for about a year I noticed the curls were starting to straighten out! I hated it! My previous salon told me to try out a set of products to cleanse my hair and give it back it's curl. It never did, it just became wavy. I went to Hair Theatre Salon about a month and a half ago and had Sami as my stylist. She was super personable and was very eager to help me get my curl back. She simply told me that the products I used were actually doing the opposite of what they're meant for. She used a specific shampoo and conditioner set, by the end of my hair cut I HAD MY CURLS BACK! I gave away the products I previously had and started with the new set from hair theatre. My hair is back to it's ringlet bouncy curls and I can style it myself at home as if I were leaving the salon! read more

I have been going to Kristin at Hair Theatre for four years and cannot say enough positive things about this place. I have not stopped receiving compliments on my hair color since my first appointment in 2016. We have done everything from subtle highlights, bright blonde, and have even dabbled with pink and purple pastels for the spring. I would never had the confidence to this if it wasn't for Kristin. My hair looks incredible every time and my co-workers are always drooling over Kirstin's work. I know I can trust her with anything. If I can't find a time that works for Kristin I know that I am in good hands with any of Hair Theatre's talented staff members. I recently had an appointment with Ellen - and she was just as fabulous, talented, and professional. Ellen and Kristin's great work is a testament to the high caliber of this salon. The salon carries great products - but they never push them on you. I was apprehensive about high end shampoos for years. Kristin and I had a thoughtful conversation about the drug store products I was using so decided to try a better product from the salon. I will never go back. I have been a happy client here for several years, but this review is specifically geared toward my experience having my hair and makeup done for my wedding on April 8. Kaily did my hair, and Claire did my makeup. I got SO MANY RAVE REVIEWS of both that I eventually lost count. Everyone was complimenting me all night, specifically asking me who I worked with. Hair: Though I never thought to show Kaily a photo of my dress, she somehow styled my hair to go perfectly with the look and feel of the venue and what I would be wearing. I didn't even think about how well it all went together until people started commenting about it. Also, my updo REALLY held up all night, despite the wind at our outdoor venue and all of the crazy dancing I did. Several of my bridesmaids and both my mother and mother-in-law had their hair done as well, and were super happy with the results, which we all know isn't always the case with weddings. Makeup: Claire really got no guidance from me, other than saying that super lame line: "I just want to look like myself, but better." I think she knocked it out of the park! Meanwhile, my mom looked so good (both hair & makeup) that I almost wanted to cry! The best endorsement I can give, though, is the fact that I had a bridesmaid decide to have her makeup done - which she hadn't planned on - after seeing the work Claire did for the rest of us. Professionalism and general awsomeness: Not only was I happy with the hair and makeup results, but Kaily and Claire both helped rid my morning of any stress and just made the whole experience enjoyable. They were perfectly on time, but the bridal party arrived later than we originally wanted to. This really worried me, because I wasn't sure we'd allowed enough time as it was. Kaily and Claire were all set up and ready to go when we rolled in, and actually put us back on schedule despite adding the extra bridesmaid's makeup...and made it all seem effortless. Bottom line: BOOK THESE LADIES for your wedding, or other event, or random Tuesday when you just want to look spectacular. They are both so sweet, so fun, and so good at what they do! This place gets 3.5 stars, but I'll round up. I came here for an appointment with Tiffany for balayage highlights. I don't live in St. Louis anymore, so I had to work some scheduling magic in order to get my hair beautified in the few days that I was going to be at home. I got there ten minutes early for the appointment and checked in at the front desk. As I was making myself a tea in the corner, I heard a lady calling me back to the front desk. When I got there, she casually stated that Tiffany was not in town that day and that she had mistakenly scheduled me in. Without much of an apology, she asked if I would like to be scheduled with Kristin instead. I'm generally not picky about who does my hair, but I was certainly irritated by the scheduling error and front desk lady's lack of concern. I ended up agreeing to being seen by Kristin, who was very sweet and talented. I really liked the results of the balayage and will likely see her again for a touchup despite the initial issues I had. read more

After having a few "rough" hair years, I was lucky enough to get a referral to Hair Theatre by a coworker, who directed me to Kateri, who is also known as "The Hair Whisperer." That name is well earned. Having hair that is as flat as they come, she has worked her magic with Balayage and styling my hair so it doesn't constantly look like a limp noodle. ;-) What is great about Hair Theatre is they are a salon that is always training and keeping up with the latest techniques. They are only one of a handful of salons in the nation that uses the Clawz (if you haven't heard of it, Google it. It's like Freddy Krueger is coming at you, but only to make your hair look amazing). They also have makeup artists to help you with look your best for whatever occasion. My daughter had her makeup done by Lena for her senior portraits, which turned out amazing. I came in a few weeks ago to get an ombre done. After reading multiple reviews and being recommended multiple times I decided to give it a shot. The salon was great as far as comfort wise with waiting, offered refreshments, etc. The problems started to arise whenever I encountered the multiple stylists who were working on me. My stylist was floating around while "associate" stylists were washing and drying my hair, I needed two processes, so this was somewhat expected. However, they were extremely rough with my hair, to the point that I had headaches for two days afterwards. When I made visible sounds of pain and asked them if they could be a bit more gentle they told me, "Well we are just trying to dry it as fast as possible since you have such thick hair" and continued what they were doing. Also, my stylist had to come up and yell at one of the associates that she didn't want her to do whatever she was doing because it was wrong, but how was this girl to know that when she was not my actual stylist? The bigger problem arose when they showed me the final product, it was much more of a balayage than an ombre, which looked extremely odd with my length of hair and included a streak in the front of the ombre that I had never wanted and the stylist had admitted she had "accidentally" led the color up too far. Furthermore, the color looked nothing like any of the multiple photos I had shown her and was barely curled, with sections still straight - after I had spent six hours of my day there when I was originally told it would take no longer than two-three hours and was in a rush to make a dinner. Now possibly the worst part of this experience - besides this lackluster finished product - was the fact that she then told me the ombre color would only last 5-10 washes, and my total was over $300 to get this all done. To say I was beyond angry and aggravated is putting it mildly. I cannot believe that she would not have mentioned that duration of staying power or that ridiculous price for such a duration earlier - maybe BEFORE all of this. I am now almost on week four and it has faded to the most abhorent color. My roots were also dyed during this and already need a complete touch up. Nothing about this place was worth the money paid, the colors barely last and have left my hair greasy beyond belief. I understand that with the asthetic of this salon you are paying more, but I think the quality should have been just as high as the price in this case. read more

This salon is by far one of the best in St. Louis. Lovola, the owner, has created an environment of continuous, high level, education and creativity. In doing so, she has kept some very talented hair designers for years and the newbies keep coming in and don't want to leave. I have gone to her salon for many years and now, so many of my family, friends and colleagues have found their way there, and are very loyal as well. I'm not saying that small scheduling mistakes happen but I've yet to hear of many who are unhappy with their hair.
