Chicken parmigiana with angel hair pasta at Mattina Bella

Met family for brunch at Mattina Bella today and enjoyed it as we always do. Mattina Bella never disappoints. Lovely surroundings, excellent service, and great breakfast favorites, sandwiches, and salads . Especially enjoyed the blackened redfish salad with their house vinaigrette dressing.

Wow!! What an amazing restaurant in downtown Covington. I've been here for both lunch and breakfast and both meals have been 11/10. My lunch meal was spaghetti and meatballs and it was very flavorful. For breakfast, I got the blueberry waffle and omg it was DELICIOUS!!! I would say this is the best breakfast place on the north shore in my opinion and it is always packed so It's definitely a fan favorite! The service is always very friendly too.

Today's lunch at Mattina Bella was my St. Patrick's Day is Irish-American tradition meal of Cornbeef, Cabbage, Carrots and Cornbread. First, I would like to say this lunch meal hit the spot (I was Hungry). I did clean my plate with only a couple of pet peeves. But presentation is a C- and it was mildly warm and not hot. Service was alright/ok but you would think as a "Special of the Day" your food would come quicker. I guess they had to go kill the animal to get the protein. Cabbage is not that's expensive but for close to $20 you'd expect a better portion on vegetables. One thing that sticks with me since my early cooking days: Cut the same, cook the same but whoever was on the Carrots also forgot the seasoning and said F-it! ‍. Lastly, if you are going to provide bottled condiments, atl least make sure the tip/caps are clean....I hate this. Need to travel with my own Louisiana Hotsauce. Customer service was subpar as during my meal, no check up, refill, how was your meal or nothing. Shock However, the young lady was quick with my check and bill but she said "No Rush"! So I paid and sat there for another 2O minutes, sipping my drink! .

Brunch and lunch spot located in historic downtown Covington. I have been about 10 years since I have been here and the food is even better now. I started with an Irish coffee which was delicious. For my meal I had the Louisiana crab eggs Benedict. It was the best eggs Benedict I have ever had in my life. Instead of a English muffin, it was a grits cake. It was also talked with andouille and crawfish.

Just finished up another great meal at MB. This time it was lunch and I had the company of my husband. I got the Redfish salad and swapped the pepper jelly dressing for the balsamic its typically served with. Since moving to LA, I cannot get enough of pepper jelly and this dressing was excellent. It was a great compliment and contrast to the salty bleu cheese and tender/flaky/flavorful blackened redfish. My husband had a chicken sandwich and really enjoyed it. Cooked at his temperature of choice, he had gouda and added onions for thanksgiving extra flavor and texture. We had mismosas and coffee with the meal. A simple touch to finish up the complexly flavored meal. As usual, service was excellent and the restaurant was filled with lively families enjoying a perfect weather Saturday!

We arrived on a Friday night without reservations and waited about 30-40 minutes for a table. First, we got a drink by the bar and stood around. Then when seats opened up at the bar, we sat there and ordered two appetizers. Before ordering, I asked one of the bartenders if something was gluten free and she came back with a sheet of paper labeled GLUTEN listing about 25-30 things that were gluten free such as dressings, jambalaya, and egg rolls (which we found out later they are NOT gluten free). I have a picture but I won't share it so that no one is deceived. A few minutes after ordering, we were buzzed that we had moved up the waiting list and to check in. My husband checked in and came to tell me to go to the hostess stand because they are ready to seat us. He went to let the bartender know to send our two appetizers to our table. When I got to the hostess stand, the hostess said that we already had been seated and to just walk upstairs. Even after I explained we had not gotten seated yet because my husband had just checked in, she instructed my party to simply head upstairs and just turn right. We walked upstairs and found a table we assumed we should sit ate. Then when my husband arrived, he went to look for menus because we didn't have any. Ava came by to greet us as our two appetizers of Sauteed Crab Claws and Boudin Egg Rolls arrived. Ava was really friendly and personable. I was so happy the sheet had indicated they are gluten free. I ate half an egg roll and started to suspect it was not gluten free. I flagged down Ava and asked and she said she was pretty sure they were not gluten free. Ava came back to apologize that the egg rolls had been changed and were no longer gluten free, and then are gave me an updated "2026 Gluten-Free Allergy Menu" with a subheader "All items listed are SAFE for you to eat." The egg rolls were no longer listed. For my entree, I ordered the Charbroiled Catfish served over spinach. It came with a salad and apparently a side. I thought my spinach was the side so I didn't ask about my side options and Ava didn't ask me what I wanted as a side. I had a side mixed green salad with no croutons. Surprisingly, everyone's side mixed green salad looked different when they arrived. Mine had croutons. Another had cheese on their mixed greens while another person was served iceberg lettuce. It was very strange. My catfish arrived with French Fries which are not gluten free. I flagged down another waitress who had checked in on us earlier to explain that I wasn't offered a side and that I couldn't eat the French Fries. I asked for cooked veggies and she brought me cauliflower. I thoroughly enjoyed my catfish and cauliflower. Others are the table had the Seafood Lasagna, Seafood Pasta, Charbroiled Oysters, and Crawfish Etouffee. Everyone liked their dishes. The portions are really big. The meal would've been much better if they were better trained on how to handle food allergies. And what the hostess did was not customer friendly at all. We learned from the second server that Ava was in training. Ava did a good job as she was really friendly, attentive, and seemed to genuinely care. I don't think she understood what a gluten allergy was but she followed up when asked to check on the egg rolls.

We arrived at 5:40pm and told them 7 people and were told about 40 minutes so we sat at the bar and grabbed a few drinks, waited about 40 minutes are were seated.. perfect timing. Now this is where things start to fall apart.. we sat and waited about 5 minutes for someone to show up and take drink orders and I thought should put in appetizers just in case it takes them awhile to return. A few drinks stumbled out and then appetizers came and the a few minutes later more of the drinks.. weird. Finally we ordered our entrees and while waiting finished our appetizers and then no one came and cleared the table, water was empty, drinks were low appetizer plates and appetizers vessels still on table. And wait for it... here come the entrees.. and they are placing them around an already full table.. was there no dishwashers so they didn't want to take plates back to be washed??? I put about 4 plates where my entree should have gone and they pushed the entree plate next to it and I had to ask them o remove the other plates. I feel like this is too long already.. the food? Tasted odd like it had an odd flavor I ordered the Truffle Butter Steak and it was about the size of my hand and cut in strips with onions rings on top and a small bowl of fries... for $35.00. My stunning wife orders the Shrimp fried rice and she was not impressed I tasted it and it was mushy with small shrimp. Oh I liked the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer that is the reason for the two stars. Bill came and I paid for seven of us and looked the bill and it was $381.00 with drinks no one told me the gratuity was one there already and stupid me did not look and gave them another $80.00 on top of the $60.00 on the bill yep $140.00 for horrible service.. and okay food. If you all read my reviews I honestly try to be fair and hope people have off days.. I am regretting having spent nearly $500.00 on this night

Every bite worked together, and it was an incredibly delicious dish. My wife ordered the French Dip, which was the brunch special, and she absolutely raved about it. The shaved ribeye was incredibly tender, the Gruyère added just the right richness, and the au jus was packed with flavor. Fried Oysters and Pork Belly - very good, if you get this make sure you eat them together (that was our "best bite" for that serving). Wedge Salad - one of the best wedge salad's we have had. The blue cheese dressing was creamy (rather than chunky blue cheese). It had crispy shoestring onion strings that almost acted as the croutons. I loved every bite that included lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and bacon. Delmonico Steak - this was probably our overall favorite item. Just a great steak, and large enough for both of us to enjoy. Redfish - this was good, not great. Would probably try something else other than this if we went back. Tchefuncte Potatoes - they almost were like a twice baked potato (flavor wise), but they are super creamy and fluffy and then turned into a lightly fried ball. Good and very unique.
