Ordered the grilled salmon salad to-go but decided to eat some there as I was waiting for my lavender negroni that wasn't worth the wait and the server said he forgot to give me my grilled salmon that went with the salad. It's about the atmosphere here !! Hands-down it's a fun place to come have a bite to eat and watch the live band and folks come to dance. Every time I've been here it's been a full house band comes on at 8 PM and plays till about 11:30 PM Saturday nights lots of folks come to show off their moves and spiffy attire. The food is casual but the atmosphere dress code wise is a bit posh if you want to feel at home in my opinion. The environment was nice for a live music restaurant and bar, the other customers were quite rude and stood in the middle of every walkway and even pushed us aside while we were speaking with the host, we had to weave around chairs and poles to get to our table. The drinks were inconsistent. The focaccia bread didn't taste right. The key lime pie tasted like a lemon tarte. They overcooked my husband's burger. I don't believe there was any Thousand Island on my Rueban. The service was awful. I was sat next to a massive fan and the waitress wouldn't come closer to me to take my order. I was trying to order my key lime pie without the raspberry coulis and the waitress walked away before I was done speaking. This place was absolutely not worth the price point. Vibrant atmosphere with seating outside. Our third time here. For the most part our meal was ok.. I had their newest chicken pizza which had way too much cheese and very little sauce. Their Truffle fries are excellent and they gave enough to share with 2/3 people. My husband was disappointed. H asked for grilled grouper sandwich and was brought a fried which was horrible. It had no taste. The sandwich was sloppy. He loved the mixed green salad. Portion sizes here are really large. Consider sharing. Service was great-friendly and full of energy. Been coming here for years when in town that it's become a nostalgic visit. The restaurant has prime location and a good atmosphere but the food has rapidly declined along with the quality of the staff. We had their pizza, as we do each year and this year it was just not good at all, my family all stopped eating and were flabbergasted on how bad it was. We ended up somewhere else as we couldn't eat anymore. It used to have cornmeal on the bottom and flavor and now a pizza from Publix is better. Really sad for a staple of Sarasota. read more

Dined here last night. It was pouring rain outside, but we were in the back of the restaurant near a wonderful heater which made for a very comfortable evening. Our server was attentive throughout the evening and did a good job of explaining menu items. The only negative I could point out is that they were "out" of the Reuben Egg Rolls which we had really wanted to try. We did get the Meatloaf Sliders (Delicious) and the Pork Belly Tacos (good) to share. I enjoyed several glasses of their $5 Happy Hour Chardonnay and thought it was excellent. For my entree I went with the Stir Fry with Shrimp. It was a very good dish, however, I would have preferred more Soy Sauce (my mistake for not asking for it) in lieu of the "Special Sauce" that came with it. My wife enjoyed the Curry Chicken Bowl. Made reservations well in advance of Valentines Day, dinner for 2. Arrived on time and were seated way off along the wall at a table for 2. There were about 10 other open tables on this side of the restaurant. Sat for 20 minutes, never acknowledged by 2 servers who walked by our table. Got up and walked to the host station, told him we waited 20 minutes and were leaving. He just said sorry. I re-responded to the text confirmation we received earlier in the day 20 minutes later when were securely seated at the bar at neighboring Patrick's. My phone rang 10 minutes later and it was the GM at Mattisons apologizing, asking if we wanted to come back now or another night and they would make it up to us. I appreciated that gesture, which accounts for the 2 stars, but we won't be back. Host should have fixed the situation then and there. Too many other great choices in Sarasota. read more

We actually found this place by mistake looking for another bar. Well, needless to say, we never made it to the other bar. We were drawn in my the live music (which they have nightly) and tiki torches and stayed because of the atmosphere and great service. Everyone is friendly and there to have a good time. They have a good number of beers on tap and a number of decent wines. The night we were in they had live music, which is always a nice feature. We happened to stop here on the night the block next to them was closed for a GIANT Halloween party with live bands and the place packed with costumed people. It was awesome. The place was packed with the overflow from the block party and the servers were very busy, but they still did a great job. Our server Maurice was very professional and personable. That's the only reason I gave two stars. My sister had something off of the brunch menu and it was "a miss" as she said, covered in too much gravy and overcooked. I had the chicken burger which was ok. Not worth the $19. It is tough to keep an outside dining room clean, but the tables could have used a good wipe down. Other than that there was great air circulation on a hot day and fabulous people watching. But the thing that most stood out was how much one of the staff members complained to us. Literally complained that someone left after 20 minutes because no one took their order. She said "people are rude and need to understand we are short staffed". She was also annoyed that we asked for a table in the shade (just finished a round of chemo, dr wants me out of the sun as much as possible). She said she was tired of everyone making that request. She also complained about her salary. All of these comments were unsolicited. We were just sitting at our table and she'd stop and complain. Just incredibly unprofessional overall. Very not kid friendly. We sit at a high top table because my mom needs to since she had back surgery and it's painful here to sit at low chairs. We have been to dozens of restaurants that allow kids to sit at high top tables. They insisted that kids are not allowed to sit at high top tables due to liability so made the 4 and 6 year old kids sit at a separate table. Made them sit at a two top next to us. Would not let us get a 3 or 4 top table so a parent could sit with them. What kind of a place doesn't let a 4 year sit with their parent? Manager was really rude about it. And then some creepy drunk guy next to us starts taking photos of them because he thought it was funny they were sitting at their own table. Not a great experience for a family. Also they claim to have kids menus but didn't have any available. The one nice thing was that our Server was nice to us. Food was just ok. Stay away if you have kids. Horrible experience. Fun fun fun! If you're looking for a night of drinking and music, this is the place to be in downtown Sarasota. A wide open atmosphere, with many tables throughout. Our server was great at taking our drink orders and filled them quickly. The food menu had various options, though some prices were a bit on the high side. We did notice many tables ordering one of the reasonably priced pizzas they offer; and they looked delicious. We just ate dinner down the road, so we drank and enjoyed the band on stage all night. They were really good. Lots of people were dancing to their tunes. There's quite a few propane torches next to the tables to keep you warm on cold evenings. The plants scattered around the perimeter are a nice touch too. read more

I came here because of the numerous times I have been here in the past. I have even used Mattison's in the past to cater a large event I held a couple of years ago. I even have a friend that is in a band that plays here so it is another reason. I enjoy coming here. Unfortunately, this was my first "not so great experience. We were greeted immediately with a smile and sat. As we sat there for probably 10-15 minutes watching servers pass by and no one coming by to greet us or drop off water, we decided to leave. LITERALLY, as I was putting my glasses away (on the phone like a teenager) Shelby saw us, read our faces and stopped by and asked if anyone had been by. She asked us for our drink order, which we gave in addition to our food order. Wow, I would have expected that someone, anyone, would have informed the kitchen about our wait, obviously not. We ordered 2 appetizers to start: The 'Tuna Tower' and 'Fish Tacos (blackened). 30 minutes later, as I was trying to get the host's attention because I hadn't seen our server, Shelby came back and delivered our food (No way were we going to order anything else)! Here's my feedback: 'Tuna Tower'- was absolutely delicious! Absolutely loved the chips and only feedback would be 1-2 more chips would have been perfect. We ate the remaining Tuna Tower with our forks as there was NO WAY we were going to ask for anything more and wait a ridiculous amount of time. Blackened Fish Tacos'- Would definitely never order it again. Really NOT a lot of flavor at all. The fish was definitely not blackened and if it was, the kitchen should be embarrassed to call it blackened. My other comment was that the mini-lettuce garnish on the plate was actually warmer than the outside temperature. It was fresh at one time but was warm and soft now. Overall, a bummer experience. Beautiful day to be seated outside, wish it all went as it had in the past. If they were, like most other restaurants, were short staffed, I'm ok with that. And in that situation, seat what you can handle! I was surprised because it really wasn't that busy at all. I even saw another couple leave their table and go to the bar because no one went to their table either. Just got in town and needed an outdoor spot to eat. The outdoor seating area was pretty cool. We got there for happy hour and the drinks were pretty decent. The service however was a little slow. They seemed to be under staffed so I can understand. The server however was very nice. We stated with the Asian chicken wings and they were solid. The legs had good meat and the flavor was good. However, the flats were dry and didn't have a lot of meat. I got the chicken sandwich from the menu (forgot the name). It was extremely dry and lacked flavor (even with the sauce). The bun was hard and made everything difficult to eat. I tried the chicken without the bread and it was extremely dry. I was very disappointed as I expected way more for $19. This would be a place to maybe try out but there seem to be a ton more options in the area I'd try before coming back to this place. read more

Food was amazing we ordered multiple things but these were the best. Atmosphere was also great it is right by a highway but it doesn't bother the vibe at all.
