Wandered in after checking out a few other places/types of mattresses, and learned quite a bit about mattresses (in addition to having done our own research) from longtime owner, James. I really appreciate family owned businesses, and try to frequent non-"box" stores whenever possible. I felt the customer service was genuine & superior to other stores, which matters when you are spending a lot of money on an item that will not only be part of your everyday life, but may essentially improve it! This is also important if you might need to return or exchange an item, which is a pain, of course, & something ppl sometimes don't think about w/an essential... Felipe didn't rush me at all, gave me all the info and laying down I needed to make an informed decision. I would have bought online like i do for everything, but what if it doesn't work out when you sleep on it? Returning it would be a nightmare. Received a temporary mattress as we wait for our mattress. I'm rewriting and updating it to give them a 5 for fixing and taking responsibility for the original service issues. I never give 1 stars and if I have, it's very seldom because business deserve second chances. I went to this location about two weeks ago as my mom has been looking for a new mattress. She checked out a few other places and didn't care for what she saw. At this point in her search, I just wanted her to find the right mattress because she was having back issues. We walked into Mattress City and met Paul and he was absolutely what we needed. He is so nice, intelligent, and knowledgable about mattresses. My favorite part - he spoke to my mom like a person and not a dollar. He let us try (pretty much) all the mattresses, was super patient, explained the differences based on her need, and didn't make us feel like something had to be bought right then and there. It was completely different from places like Macy's. I think we were with him for about 45 minutes and after talking with him, my mom got her new mattress. Paul, the manager, went above and beyond to rectify the disappointing experience we had. He was on vacation when he called to explain what happened while also understanding that it didn't change the circumstance. As soon as it was possible he and Felipe (I believe is his name) came to our house themselves with the mattress. They set up the bed and hauled away the old one. They were in and out in about 20 minutes. Although the initial delivery process wasn't seamless I appreciate and respect that they took responsibility and rectified the problem. We needed a new mattress with ours being at least 10 years old, and needed something durable, long lasting and firm. We came here expecting to get one of those trendy "mattress in a box" ones -- but Paul convincingly sold us on the Tempurpedic. Sure, it's more expensive, but wow, the sleep we've had on it is great. In 2019, we bought an extra-firm queen mattress with box springs from Paul at Mattress City. We were so satisfied with the purchase, we brought a relative to Mattress City to replace their mattress. Fortunately, Paul was there that day. Purchasing the mattress was a breeze. Paul was very attentive to our relative's needs, and did not try to upsell. He was very knowledgeable about the products. He not only explained the key differences between the products, he even demonstrated how the springs work. My boyfriend and I stepped into this store in hopes of finding a queen mattress that met our needs for both support and comfort. Based on the great reviews on Yelp, we expected to be met with a corresponding level of care, thoughtfulness and respect, and were extremely disappointed in the end, and left quickly when it became apparent that the store manager who was helping us, Daniel Ross, was not interested in anything we had to say. We felt completely unheard, and felt as though his approach to making a sale was unnecessarily aggressive and extremely condescending. Had I not felt so shut down and disrespected so soon, I would have wanted to stay and possibly explore even higher priced mattresses than we initially intended to buy.
