Highly recommend the Migas taco if you're looking for a taco that's absolutely loaded with toppings and flavor. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and the tortilla itself is so delicious and soft. This food cart pod is called the Hinterland Cart Pod, or more formally named the Hinterland Bar & Food Carts. It had a nice big seating area, all open and pretty clean. Matt's BBQ Tacos is located toward the back of the food cart pod, very Texan looking, as they serve Texas-style BBQ. You order from the touch screen by the serving window, or you can order from their website. The wait time is shown above it, and as it is a popular spot, the wait time can go up significantly in a matter of minutes. You get a text when your order is ready, which is convenient. We got three different kinds of tacos to start. Chopped Beef Taco Supreme, Chopped Brisket Breakfast Taco, and Brisket Taco. The tacos were all very tasty, with tender, juicy meat. It was packed with flavor, with a nice note of smokey flavor. The tacos are not big, and after sharing the three tacos between the two of us, we decided to get two more tacos since my hubby was still a bit hungry for more. We went with more breakfast tacos, Sausage Patty and Hashbrown Taco, and Pulled Pork Breakfast Taco. We enjoyed all the breakfast ones. I especially loved the hashbrown one, it was so good! The hype around this place is extensive. I was left no choice but to stuff 3 of these tacos in my mouth and judge myself. First off the concept is pretty novel. Really pushing our concept of what tacos are to the limits. Why not do a bbq and taco fusion? Why not do it at every bbq place? I haven't looked up any information on Matt but my guess is he's from Texas. Why should breakfast tacos be most popular in the southern states? This is a non political take on Tacos. All in all these tacos were really high level. There was a lot of talk of this being a top 5 food cart in the city. It didn't seem that way to me. The G.O.A.T. was, in fact, the GOAT--so good. I also really liked the pork belly taco and felt it was pretty unique. The cheeseburger taco was also fun and well-crafted but I think benefited from adding their BBQ sauce. They allow for online ordering or there is a kiosk screen at the food cart and you get a text when your tacos are ready. There's a good amount of seating and even indoor, air conditioned seating options as well. This place is definitely worthy of it's reputation and worth a try! I got the pork belly and GOAT tacos made with corn tortillas. The BBQ was solid for PNW. This is coming from me living in TX for 9 years before moving to Portland. You can order from the food truck or online for pickup. Our food came out pretty fast but I could see at peak times it could take longer. Just keep that in mind. They're also not the very best I've had in Portland (that remains a taco of the day at Cartopia). I did love Matt's green sauce though, that stuff was exceptional! I'd love to see better prices/value, stronger flavors and more bold ideas happening here especially given the fusion of very big flavor cuisines. read more

A friend recommended this food truck to my husband and I and we were blown away by these tacos! I was expecting much smaller, street style tacos but that was not the case. The tacos came out quickly, were hot and filled to the brim with ingredients, making them messy but OH SO FUN. The menu has a lot of unique options such as the hash brown taco (a fan favorite of our table for sure), chopped brisket taco, and lots of breakfast style taco selections. I subbed out for corn tortillas and they were excellent and definitely seemed handmade. This food truck is connected to a bar/seating space called Hinterland, which you can order drinks from. It does get pretty packed here so if you want some tacos, I highly recommend doing an online order, or plan your visit accordingly. Food Recs: * Pulled Pork Tacos: The pork is tender with nice flavor that pairs perfectly with the guac and pickled onions. The homemade flour tortilla pulls everything together for a really great tasting taco. * The Green Salsa: I don't know exactly what this sauce is made of but it's really delicious! It's a very mild salsa and I drown my Pulled Pork Tacos in it. * Hashbrown: Can't go wrong with a golden, crispy potato patty. * Chips & Queso: This is a great shareable. The queso is nicely flavored and the chips are thick so there is never any breakage. * My wife and friends really like the Chopped Brisket Taco, the Hot Mess Taco, the Sliced Pork Belly Taco, and the Beef Taco Supremo. Definitely a reasonable sized taco for the cost. The corn tortilla was good, but the smokiness of the smoked vegan taco was too strong for me. Waffles fries were good. The tortillas are pillowy little wrappers of soft goodness around warm, salty, smokey meat products, potentially with guac and pickled onions on them. I must know the secret of the tortillas. My money's on lard. They wouldn't tell me. If you can get past the Portland people waiting six feet apart, not figuring out what they want before they get to the front of the line, and then having NO idea how to operate the ordering screen, you will get yourself some very delicious treats. Something about their combination of fresh ingredients, flavors, and textures in each bite makes these BBQ tacos insanely addictive. You order from a food truck outside and eat in an indoor/outdoor space with space heaters. I came here in the dead of winter and it was a little cold in some of the seating areas, but I forgot all about that as soon as I started eating. I usually snap a few pictures of the food but these guys were gone in just a few minutes. They're also very filling since they're very meat-forward tacos, as the name implies. The dining area can be pretty chilly depending on when you go (especially at night) but it's nice that they have a fair amount of seating, self-serve water, and a modest shelter from the wind and rain. I ordered the chopped brisket breakfast tacos which consist of brisket, potato, cheddar, and eggs. The brisket was the epitome of juicy. The tortilla and eggs were soft and warm. The cheese on top brought all the breakfast flavors together. It's safe to say my tastebuds were happy! The size of the tacos are surprisingly deceiving as they leave you feeling very full (in a good way). There is a good amount of street parking since it's near a residential area. The server who handed me my food was kind. The ordering process was easy peasy as you order via a tablet located at the front of the truck and they text you when your order is ready. We got 4 different tacos to try a variety - my favorites were the pork belly breakfast taco and migas taco! Both were $5.75. The pork belly was super juicy and flavorful! I'm not usually a fan of beans with tacos, but surprisingly these tasted pretty good too. With the migas taco, the eggs were perfectly scrambled and seasoned - the lump of cheese on all of the tacos made them absolutely addicting too. There's loads of seating available, since we came early we were able to snag a parking spot right in front of the Hinterland Food Pods. They're popular for their original spot, Matt's BBQ!
