Oh yum!!! Several friends and I stopped in here for lunch and we all agreed that everything we has was great. I had a couple of tacos a la carte - one fish & one prawns. Both the fish and the prawns were cooked in a red sauce that was delicious! I meant to ask for blue corn tortillas but was so excited to find shrimp & fish tacos that weren't deep-fried that I forgot to ask for them. The regular corn tortillas were excellent, though, so it was not a bad mistake to make. I also had jamaica to drink and let me tell you... it was not made from a mix! It was dark, thirst-quenching, and perfectly made. Most jamaica is super sweet - this was not! I love the flavor of real hibiscus and this did not disappoint. My friends had chile relleno bowls and birria tacos, all of which was excellent. Their watermelon margaritas were tasty and refreshing! Our orders were taken by a helpful person at the cash register and the food was served quickly by a friendly server. The inside and outside areas were clean and tidy, with plenty of seating available at the outside tables. I had such a great experience at Plaza Coyoacán. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt welcoming, warm, and inviting. It is the kind of place you instantly feel comfortable settling into. Everyone we interacted with was incredibly kind, and the service was genuinely great throughout. We ordered the Quekas with vegan chorizo and black beans and they were SO good, honestly a standout. The chips and guac were also a hit, and I loved that the guac was actually cold. Such a small detail that makes a big difference. The Citrus Salad was super fresh, crisp, and delicious, which balanced everything out perfectly. I also tried the NA classic margarita and it was so refreshing. We ordered delivery so I cannot speak to the cleanliness or friendliness o the restaurant or staff. The food was ready and delivered on time. We had the Burrito Bowl with asada, Carne Asada Burrito, Chips, Guacamole and Salsa, Quesadilla with carnitas and Enchilada De Mole Poblano a La Carte with carnitas. The asada in both the bowl and burrito was very tender but under seasoned. The carnitas in both the quesadilla and enchilada was really good and the mole sauce was pretty incredible. The price for the chips/guacamole/salsa was pretty expensive for what was given. Plaza Coyoacan is pretty solid and we enjoyed their food. read more

The best Mexican food in Portland is difficult to name as there are so many variations: guisado-style, Tex-Mex, Yucatan, etc. Yet Plaza Coyoacan quickly comes to mind as a Top 3 overall venue. First, the interior space from color scheme, artwork, presentation, and hand written signage are charming. Even the water has a nice touch as it's infused with lemon and mint. And there's ample NON-bottled drink choices to complement your meal. Their attention to detail is noticeable. The chicken for the tacos is marinated, then shredded. The tortillas a cut above, maybe homemade. The Chile Relleno is just shy of that from Salsas Locas: it's bathed in a scrumptious thick orange-color sauce. The pinto beans are also a better than average: not watery and an ample portion. One of their marquee items, the Mole Bowl, satisfied a healthy choice craving. The guacamole and cheese breakfast burrito was excellent! I skipped the beans as they don't belong. The only slight negative is that it's small, so it probably won't satisfy if that's all you're ordering. This isn't a cheap iceberg lettuce, #2 gringo special kinda place. It isn't Westside Mexican. I recently moved from Deep South texas with amazing Mexican food and this place fulfilled those cravings! You order and pay upfront but they gave us time to peruse the menu at our seats (of your choosing). I loved the lemon water that you can fill yourselves. It was generally a casual, no frills atmosphere but still very cute inside, and the service was so sweet. I started off with the mole enchiladas with shredded chicken and it was delicious! The sauce was so good especially combined with the flavorful rice. My friend had the chimichanga which she enjoyed as well. My plate felt light and not too heavy/greasy so we later ordered quesabirria as well - it had everything I loved from the gooey cheese to the consome I was still drinking even after we ran out of tacos lol. On arrival, there are some wonderful options to choose from. I had major issues deciding so ended up with a taco platter as well as a tamale. I also got some Horchata. Slightly chalky for the Horchata but the flavors were all great! I really did enjoy the mole, I would say that was the standout of my dishes as it's been a while since I ordered something with mole--the last time I did so was in LA! After experiencing Plaza Coyoacan as part of a Yelp event, and absolutely loving their food, I've already been back twice! Yes, it's that good!!! The food is absolutely exceptional. The flavors are on point, every bite a delight. I can't rave enough about their pastor, the chunks of pineapple adding a sweetness to the juicy pork. They are served on homemade blue corn tortillas and are generously filled. I could eat these everyday! Seriously, they are that good. They have so many delicious items on the menu, all authentic. While I enjoy stopping in for lunch in dinner, next time I'll go late morning to get the chilaquiles. Not many places serve them and theirs look delicious. The owner and entire staff is super friendly and they are always happy to hear I love their food. There are tables in the room where you enter and order, and lots more seating through the side door. This area is a covered patio with a variety of seating arrangements. We were there on a cool November night and the overhead heaters kept us warm. Wow! With just a bite of their Al Pastor Taco, I knew that this is gonna be the best Mexican place in PDX. The meat was soooo juicy and flavorful. Their tortilla was fresh and soft. The balance of sweetness from the pineapple was perfect. Their Carne Asada and Birria Tacos were also delicious. Super generous with the high quality meat. We couldn't stop with just tacos and proceeded to order an Al Pastor Burrito and an Embazo which was a torta covered in a special red sauce loaded with chorizo and potatoes. The Burrito was nicely seared on all sides and the guac was so fresh. The bread for the Embazo was soft and well-toasted. Their chorizo was the best that I've ever had! Rice but not greasy or too salty. Horchata was thick, smooth, and perfectly sweet. I can't rave about this spot enough. Ambience was impeccable as well with indoors and outdoors seatings. Wow! It's probably a great thing that I live out in Beaverton because otherwise, I'd probably be here every day! This little spot on SE Hawthorne is a not so hidden gem (as showcased by the line when I arrived) providing a quick & tasty eating experience. I had a birria taco, chicken taco & prawn taco, and my favorite was surprisingly the prawn. I'm 100% a birria girly, and this birria was no joke (juicy, well seasoned and perfectly paired with a pile of onion & cilantro), but the prawns stole the show! They had the texture of ceviche, which I LOVE, and the added fresh lime juice just took it over the top! The chicken was also delicious, and the spices are something I need to figure out to replicate at home! The two salsas that came with the tacos were sadly too spicy for me (I have the taste buds of a newborn... sad), but I couldn't stop taking tastes of the both of them with pieces of tortilla. I believe the red was a tomato base, and holy hell, the flavor was so good it was worth toasting my tongue! I also had a tamarindo agua fresca, which was a new beverage for me. I will almost always get horchata, but wanted to try something different. The tamarindo was tart, sweet, cold & refreshing, and if you haven't tried it before, I urge you to. I WILL be back, simply because there are both tamales & pozole on the menu, and those both speak to my heart. I will plan on eating in the next time (I was sadly short on time to enjoy on the patio), as my one 'complaint' is that the meats were so tender that the tortillas were wet by the time I ate them. Just tried out tonight and we are so happy. A fun place with really good fajitas along with other good stuff. Walk up and order, get your number and some indoor seating and a lot of protected patio seating. So first very helpful owner Leticia helped me figure out the best margarita and offered me the happy hour prices with 2 minutes to spare. We ordered the chips but I wanted the Guava margarita and it wasn't on the happy hour. It didn't matter I loved the margarita, could taste the alcohol but it was smooth and the guava flavor was excellent. As I mentioned I got the fajitas and they were very flavorful with just a hint of heat which was perfect for me. Comes with four corn tortillas which held together well and were good quality. I did order a side of white cheese and it was more than I needed so I may ask for less next time as $2.50 was a bit more than I was expecting but $18 for fajitas is reasonable and I was stuffed! Husband got a burrito on a whole wheat tortilla and held the rice so nice they have those options. He loved it and also said very flavorful. It was the one with green sauce and cheese but would have liked a bit more guacamole and sour cream as guac was so good. Also hard to find burritos in Portland. I love that the food is cooked to order. You can smell the aromas as your meal is freshly prepared. The fajitas were well seasoned and flavorful. The meat was tender and not overcooked. The fajitas plate is served with rice, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, crème and blue corn tortillas. The taco combo was served with rice, beans and guacamole. Your choice on the filling. I chose one carne asada and one birria. Both were tasty, but I preferred the carne asada. Very flavorful. Other options include cod, shrimp, tempeh, vegetarian chorizo and veggies. My only complaint is if you can call it a complaint is it was a very warm day so it was a bit stuffy inside. We love Mexican food! Hubby says we will be back... Second time around.... Hubby ordered Chilaquiles with eggs and I had Nachos with Carne Asada. Our friends ordered the Mole Poblano bowl and a Taco salad. Our friend enjoyed the Mole Poblano bowl and said it was very tasty and flavorful. The menu offers a great selection for both omnivores and vegans. Most of their menu can be made vegan with the exception of their meat dishes. I got the taco combo with the organic tempeh filling.
