We are now being forced to pursue legal endeavors, as they refused to refund our stay. When we arrived the sewage was piled up in the streets 10 feet high, sewage strewn all down the driveway. Additional flood warnings were active the morning we arrived and the place was not safe. All of their properties in the South Kehei region, are in what the state has labeled major flood zones. This area floods regularly, however during the Kona Low Storms of March 2026, local papers labeling this a once in 100 years flood, this company did not flag this as a hazardous event. They also refused to provide a letter that we could use to submit for insurance, even after telling us in writing that they would. After we cancelled and found a place on higher ground where my wife and unborn child would be safe. They still rented out the last day of our trip. So they technically still made more money off of the pain they put us though. This company does not care about your safety. You have been warned.

TLDR: Kona Storm, they do not care. Maui was devasted, but we should still travel. Stay away from…read morethis place. Subject: Formal Demand for Refund - Reservation March 17-25, 2026 To Whom It May Concern at Maui Rentals, I am writing to formally request a full refund of $4,505.11 in connection with my reservation for March 17-25, 2026, which I was compelled to cancel due to the severe weather conditions caused by the Kona storm affecting Maui during that period. I. BACKGROUN I purchased travel insurance through Red Sky Travel Insurance in connection with this reservation. When I filed a claim for my prepaid, nonrefundable costs, Red Sky denied coverage in part by citing representations from Maui Rentals that the rental unit was available and habitable. I am contacting you directly because I believe that characterization, even if technically accurate in a structural sense, does not reflect the totality of conditions on the ground -- and because I believe we can resolve this matter without further escalation. II. BASIS FOR REFUND The Kona storm caused documented, widespread disruption to Maui's infrastructure, transportation systems, and public safety during the exact dates of my reservation. Travel to and use of the destination was not reasonable or practicable for any prudent traveler during this period, regardless of whether a mandatory evacuation order was formally issued. I sustained a verified financial loss of $4,505.11 in prepaid, nonrefundable expenses. I am not seeking anything beyond what I paid. I am not alleging bad faith on the part of Maui Rentals. I am asking that you review the circumstances and extend a good-faith refund consistent with the extraordinary nature of this weather event and the reasonable expectations of your guests. III. REQUESTED RELIEF AND TIMELINE I respectfully request a full refund of $4,505.11 within ten (10) business days of receipt of this letter. If this matter cannot be resolved directly, I will have no choice but to pursue all available remedies. I am hopeful that Maui Rentals shares that preference. The items we placed in there were warmer than we put them in the frig. and coupled with the constant leak, the floor was a trip hazard. (Of the 8, we had a 9 month old and 4 that are not spring chickens). We telephoned the phone # provided, that very afternoon and during business hrs, no live person, so left a voice msg. On Saturday, it was apparent the AC was not working in one of the bedrooms, the television in a different bedroom could not be properly operated unless it was from the living room. The major reason we settled on this rental is b/c they boast of a "nice" pull-out sleeper soft and that would have suited us perfectly for the pre-teen - had we been able to open it. We telephoned again and requested maintenace or service, or anyone to rectify the frig, AC, and sofa bed. An answer and seemingly sincere person that promised someone would resolve the issues right away. No one came; no one called. Called again Sunday, again, the voice message. FINALLY, after a few more calls, a very nice "maintence" person arrived. He really was nice. Walked around, assurred us the refrigerator would be replaced (which would take care of the hazard), was horrified at the extreme temp in the bdrm with non-working AC, determined the sofa will not open b/c some metal rod is bent out of place. He was unsure as to what would be done about that. He also examined one of the sliding doors that was very difficult to impossible to open, but appeared as though it would fall off the tract, and again indicated he was unsure what could be done about that. We also inquired about the "broken hot tub" as everyone was attempting to use the only one working, making for one very crowded area while the other pool area was almost empty. There was a lovely b'bque area with 3 large grills by the pool with the working spa; unfortunately, they did not work. After that nice maintence man left, we really believed that things were going to be taken care of. We never saw anyone again, never heard anything again, despite several more telephone calls. After all was said and done, a very meager refund was given and it cannot go without being said, the resort thought it was very generous. It was less than one nights rental. When there was no further communication from them, I telephoned the corporate office, the rental company, and even sent an email. At one point, I reached a live person that promised a call the next day from the manager. That was July, 2025. Still nothing. Hope this info provided information that will prove helpful.
