This area floods regularly, however during the Kona Low Storms of March 2026, local papers labeling this a once in 100 years flood, this company did not flag this as a hazardous event. They also refused to provide a letter that we could use to submit for insurance, even after telling us in writing that they would. After we cancelled and found a place on higher ground where my wife and unborn child would be safe. They still rented out the last day of our trip. So they technically still made more money off of the pain they put us though. This company does not care about your safety. You have been warned.

I. BACKGROUN I purchased travel insurance through Red Sky Travel Insurance in connection with this reservation. When I filed a claim for my prepaid, nonrefundable costs, Red Sky denied coverage in part by citing representations from Maui Rentals that the rental unit was available and habitable. I am contacting you directly because I believe that characterization, even if technically accurate in a structural sense, does not reflect the totality of conditions on the ground -- and because I believe we can resolve this matter without further escalation. II. BASIS FOR REFUND The Kona storm caused documented, widespread disruption to Maui's infrastructure, transportation systems, and public safety during the exact dates of my reservation. Travel to and use of the destination was not reasonable or practicable for any prudent traveler during this period, regardless of whether a mandatory evacuation order was formally issued. I sustained a verified financial loss of $4,505.11 in prepaid, nonrefundable expenses. I am not seeking anything beyond what I paid. I am not alleging bad faith on the part of Maui Rentals. I am asking that you review the circumstances and extend a good-faith refund consistent with the extraordinary nature of this weather event and the reasonable expectations of your guests. III. REQUESTED RELIEF AND TIMELINE I respectfully request a full refund of $4,505.11 within ten (10) business days of receipt of this letter. If this matter cannot be resolved directly, I will have no choice but to pursue all available remedies. I am hopeful that Maui Rentals shares that preference. I had such a wonderful experience the first time, I just had to make it back again this year. Her condo is right across the street from a beach with turtles laying around every morning and the most epic sunsets at night. Karen was sweet enough to send me recommendations for places to go and things to do on Maui also. The complex has many amenities- BBQ, tennis, pool and jacuzzi and really friendly neighbors. A quick internet search led us to Maui Roost and we called them and Julie was able to find us a unit within minutes. The new unit was actually better than what we had originally booked with the other company. She literally saved our two week vacation. We will book with Maui Roost managed units from now on!

There was just as much sand here as at the larger hotels on the Lahaina side. Right next to a shopping center that has everything, food, clothing, convenience store, rental activities - It's just a walk away. You can shop at the supermarket and if you have your keys with you (certain sets of keys) the key chain is a discount card - I was so happy that I got 10% off of my order.

So let me say--OMGosh--These are NICE! .Wailea Point Village Condos are nestled btwn the Fairmont Hotel and the Grand Wailea Hotel. (more about that later) You can walk down towards beach path/beaches (unlocked gate, and a shower right inside the gate). The GREAT beach path that is only 3.5 miles (round trip). We ran it every morning. Random people can't just walk in, as they seem to monitor the beach gate & someone actually drove up one time to ask me (in a very nice way) "how" I like my visit and what condo I was staying in. Was kind of annoyed, but at least I know, it's SAFE. Has a very nice gym- you might have to turn on AC (remote on wall by far door) and fans (remote by front door), if you are the only one in there, like us. Though, you need to be guest at WPV to use. TAN TIME--if you walk to beach--there is a grass short-cut you can take, ask any of the grounds keepers where it is- (Fairmont side), you can take your towels and lay out with the hotel guests on the same beach. If you have an "WPV owners card", just go to the little pool circle building & show it to them. They'll set up a chair and umbrella for you. Tip the cabana boys. They gotta eat, too. Or if you wake up late, like us, just walk up to an empty chair/umbrella and casually set up camp. Bring white towels to "blend" in. :) POOL TIME- Usually empty. There is a kiddie pool, and a lap pool, for you swimmer types. You'll find the ping pong tables over there, too.

They try to charge you three times the security deposit to see how much they can get out of you financially, which is ILLEGAL, and believe me they know it too. When I refused to pay it, they gladly accepted one month deposit. Once you rent from them, you will experience intrusive behavior with them needing to inspect your rental every month or so including Christmas Day. When you move out, you will not see your deposit again. They are notorious for withholding money. Toward the end of my lease they suddenly wanted to increase my rent by $500 which is illegal also. When I refused to pay it, they raised it by $250 instead. The rental I had was roach infested when I moved in, the three dressers had broken handles and missing drawers, the couch was broken, the cutlery wasn't clean, the faucet in the guest bathroom room didn't work and they refused to fix it until it almost overflowed one time when a friend of mine got it to finally work and couldn't turn it off. The staff of Pali Kai also spy on you each time you come and go from your unit with the on-site security camera. They don't like you having guests or friends over to visit and they email you to tell you how often your friend visited you. They would not let me begin my rent on the first of the month and told me I had to start my rental agreement immediately and pay a pro-rated amount in which there were 8 days remaining before the first of the next month. These people are desperate and use every manipulative tactic out there. True con-artists at best. Beware of Bob Jilek and Josh Guthrie in particular. They are the rudest people I have ever dealt with as far as landlords. Renting from them can turn you off living on Maui for good.
