Loved the two villas we rented and they've been beautifully kept up. A/C was broke in one villa but the portable units in each room worked great! They provided an extra futon and toddler bed for two grandkids. We loved the big dining tables and spacious rooms for our group of 9 adults and teens and 2 toddlers. Walking distance to food trucks was awesome. Pools were cleaned every morning. Close to the beach for sand play and snorkeling and sunsets! The luana units were PERFECT for our large 3 generation family vacation. The smaller pool and hot tub (as opposed to the larger communal pools) were awesome for the kids to play, as was the green space in front of the unit. we have stayed in ground floor ocean front units several times and loved them but 1) they have become very dated and lacking in upkeep 2) you are always dealing with crowds. 3) it is much harder to keep track of the six grandkids! we have rented from other agencies and MRR is by far the most responsive! Beautiful views of the beach in front of the Polo Beach Club and also in front of the Fairmont Kea Alani next door. Large comfortable lanai with dining table and two lounge chairs. The unit was clean, well equipped and decorated nicely. The furniture was perfect for the space. The bed and pillows in the main room are very comfortable and there are adequate amounts of towels and linens for longer stays. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking, drink making and cleaning. When it's time for the beach, the beach chairs and umbrella were all in excellent condition and there were plenty of beach towels. We have stayed at this property many times and this unit was amongst our favorites. The property itself is perfect, sitting right on Polo Beach and having a pool right there of sand is not your thing. I highly recommend this unit, we plan on re-booking it for the next Maui vacation! read more

We stayed in unit 353 2 BR ocean view (building 3, 5th floor, unit 3). Unit is well appointed with plenty of cooking utensils, pots/ pans, dishes. There is a blender, coffee maker, toaster. Kitchen has oil, salt and pepper. The beds were comfortable. The lanai had a beautiful view of the ocean and sunsets! We have stayed in Kaanapali many times (usually a couple properties down), this was our first time staying at the Alii- it is a nice property with a nice pavilion with TVs & lounge chairs to be able to watch the big games - we were there during FIFA World Cup semi finals. The pool area has many lounge options (open and covered). Beach area has vast beach and the option of using the complimentary Alii white beach chairs (the unit 353 chairs are more comfortable, but the other chairs are fine if you are moving back and forth from pool to beach). There are umbrellas to rent and the Alii staff will set them up for you- be sure to tip- they work hard! Showers to rinse off sand before entering property/ pool area (though I saw many guests use the pool to rinse off- please don't). The grill area has plenty of grills and tables with a spice cabinet for all to share. The concierge / towel hut is helpful and ask about the Palapa Lottery- I didn't ask until the day before we left and it was too late. Parking is not handicap friendly- so be aware- plan to be dropped off before your party parks. Only recommendations for the unit: 1. Check the game/ puzzle cabinet- could use some TLC - some guests have removed pieces and parts of games, some are non functional or unable to be played due to missing pieces- yatzhee had all the dice (& some extra) and we made our own scorecards. 2. Consider cushions for the lanai furniture. These are just minor suggestions- overall - I would highly recommend this unit! read more

The process was easy, the room was as expected and there were helpful associates available throughout the process. Pricing was more than going with Costco but given we had a few locations in mind (wanting a night in Hana), Maui Resort Rentals was a far better option for us. There rates were competitive or better than other units at Honua Kai. Our unit, 814, had a lovely view of the hills and we saw rainbows out our windows on our arrival and departure days. Room 243 was great and our family members enjoyed it. Room 413 was OK, but the couch is NOT COMFORTABLE, is in need of replacement. I was surprised the the AC fan runs non-stop and I called for service (tech explained). A more complete user guide to the specific unit would be helpful, including TV (2 controllers, what do they do??) A better evacuation map (map looks like I go down a stairwell that doesn't exist) is needed. And no garbage disposal? Good response from Maui Resort Rental team when I called. We also had family in Konea 113, the the inside carpet could have been cleaner and the outside patio was not very clean when we arrived, especially patio cushions FULL of cat hair. Later a garden sprinkler was stuck and flooded the patio (bark everywhere) I had to call to get that turned off and called again later to get someone to clean up the mess! Several maint. folks walked by, should have been taking care of without calls. Outdoor areas very nice and pools great for kids. Tree trimming was done very fast, I heard others complaining but work has to get done and they were good! Overall, for the price, some things can be better. read more

This was my first time staying at Honua Kai through Maui Resort Rental . definitely will not be my last from their amazing price and options at this Resort I was not disappointed . They were easy to get a hold of very responsive texted me every step of the way for help if needed . The app they offer to download to make your vacation streamlined is amazing . I stayed in unit 222 and the konia building . It was spectacular we had a huge deck that looked at the mountains and we got to see the sunrise every morning . To me this was more private and secluded that having the ocean view but that is a personal choice . The poolls and Ambience at this hotel is spectacular . If I ever needed anything it was just a text away and Maui Resort Rental was very responsive . I must say that I am more than a little disappointed in the unit we rented. Let me preface this with the fact that this is probably the 6th time we have stayed in studio or one bedroom units at The Whaler. My biggest objection is that the carpet was extremely dirty/stained while each occupant pays a very large cleaning fee. Beyond this the garage disposal was broken, the toaster and dishwasher were cheap and damaged in the case of the silverware holder having holes in it. Also we found the beach supplies meager; no umbrella, boogie boards or practical size cooler for two occupants. This is in relation to prior stays. Loved the view but for almost $5,000 including $35 dollar/day resort fee I would expect better! read more

We have stayed at the Whaler 7 times. We love the property and the location. In the past we have booked with Aston. It was Ok, but we could only book a unit category and could never find out what unit number or floor we were assigned until the day before check-in. Being able to see the condo ahead of time is so much better! The condo was as beautiful as pictured. Check-in and out were easier too. We saved about $1,200 for our 8-night stay. It didn't, so my son who's 24 and 6'3", had to sleep on the couch for 9 nights. The other option, sleep with his grandmother, not going to happen. This was a real bummer .... Better rating had the person we spoke to been honest and we could have switched rooms. To be clear, this is not the Whaler, they did not book this, it was Maui Resort Rentals. Epic & priceless Maui adventures for our family of 4 searching for relaxation in Paradise! We loved the condo and personal washer dryer access daily for bathing suits and towels. Should have packed less! Love that they provided laundry soap and dish, dishwashing soap to cover the stay! Condo was stocked with necessary supplies needed for over a week stay. The couch bed does need replacing! It had a broken down mattress and the pullout bed struggles to close when putting the couch back. Master bedroom could also use an updated mattress. The patio was perfect with a beautiful view. I loved having coffee, enjoying treats from the amazing @PapisOhana (walking distance and worth every step and bite-a MUST) and watching the ocean each morning and night after long days of playing in the sand and relaxing by the pool(s). Our family enjoyed relaxing in the pools after slow beach days filled with snorkeling and loved rotating between the lazy river and the various pools and spas. Best snorkeling was in-front of our condo! We tried other places and the kids wanted to go back to "our beach!" Dukes was also amazing! Loved having the option to go in to order or place orders for drinks by the pool from Dukes. We already booked our next trip to Maui and are planning to bring family and friends to stay and play! The four of us enjoyed the spacious three bedroom accommodations! We were on the third floor and loved the view and lanai, complete with a BBQ and large dining table. Our dinner at Duke's was amazing, as were the drinks. My daughter and I enjoyed a lovely breakfast there on our last morning in Maui. Everything in the house is high quality and thoughtfully chosen, from the comfortable beds to the well-stocked kitchen. I think the Kaanapali Alii in general is a good building, has perfectly maintained grounds, and Alli staff is wonderful. Our experience with the housekeeping, and Maui Rentals, was much less so. DIRTY: Upon arrival we found a property that was grungy around the edges. The throw rug in the bathroom was visably dirty, the carpets and furniture were in need of a good shampoo - they werent just stained and worn, they were dirty. The bedspread smell indicated it had not been laundered for at least the prior two or three guests. I found used BandAids (YIKES) a french fry and a cheeto in the desk drawer. I had to wipe down the dresser drawers, the mirrors had remnants of toothbrush spray, there was green algae on shower steps, fake plants (which I dislike anyway) were literally caked with dust. I don't tolerate that standard in my own home, why would I do so in a "luxury" resort condo for which I was paying close to $1000 per night. I did complain, but they could not have shampooed the carpets and the upholstered furniture without disrupting our stay (nor did they offer to do so). This is all part of maintaining the property, and imo this was a fail. They did come and launder the throw rug & bedspread, and did give us extra sheets to cover the furniture, and gave us foam to sleep on when we were promised two beds (see below). Such were our "luxury" "new" accommodations. NOT NEW/MISREPRESENTED: The unit itself was listed on VRBO as being "completely new" but we found nothing new, in fact, everything looked like the 1990s or 2000s, except the appliances, which were probably installed in the last couple of years, even so, the frig did not make/dispense ice. We were also explicitly told prior to booking that the king bed in our unit could be split into 2 twins. When my two adult children arrived later in the week, we found out that was not the case, (something about only Kings in "guest" bedrooms could be split, not in master bedrooms) that our bed was not splittable. This was frankly infuriating, and sort of ruined the family part of the stay because our son had to sleep on a hunk of foam in the living room - which meant we all had to turn in and rise on his schedule (which differed from our own), not to mention his discomfort and lack of privacy. NOISY: Last but not least, our particular unit (262) was located over the back service entrance and adjacent to the outdoor Westin bar. Over morning coffee on the lanai we were greeted by delivery persons and their trucks backup beeping and driver language, and with our evening cocktails enjoyed the thumping beat of dance music. The lanai was anything but peaceful. This unit should come with a noise warning. It was loud enough at times for my apple watch to register a decibel warning. ACCOMMODATION: Not a dime was offered as any adjustment or accommodation. No apology or concern. Nothing. Not even an apology. Just a gee whiz, "someone" gave you bad info, we'll bring you some sheets and a foam "futon". BOTTOM LINE: The Alii itself is a nice property. We have stayed here before and our room was pristine and peaceful. Take care about the location and condition of the unit you choose to rent. Not all units are created equal. First and foremost: AVOID BOOKING IT THROUGH MAUI RESORT RENTALS unless you know the condition and location of the unit. Even then, I personally would not rent from them given the standards they think are acceptable in a luxury rental. read more

See the pictures. It was also well outfitted with utensils, plates, grilling equipment, a fantastic grill, beautiful lanai. My family of four just spent 5 nights in Maui at Honua Kai. We had a wonderful time! The condo itself was perfect. Very clean, handy amenities, great view, plenty of space, convenient location. The beds were comfortable and the patio doors that opened the length of the living room were so perfect in the mornings. The resort property was immaculate. Beautiful landscaping and the pools and hot tubs were great. It was hard to find a chair if you went in the afternoon but not a deal breaker. The property was steps from a beautiful golden sand beach with the most amazing snorkeling. Walk south a few yards for easier entrance to the water and prepare to be wowed! So much coral teeming with fish. On our last morning there we also saw 3 eagle rays, several turtles, an octopus and a couple eel. Just magical! Maui Resort Rentals had great communication prior to and throughout our stay. Most answers to questions were just a click away. I would not hesitate to stay here again in the future.
