This place canceled our reservation 3 weeks before our trip and did not provide any alternative accommodations. We had to book a tiny hotel room elsewhere, and it was the only place left in the area. BEWARE!!! Rented a 3 bdrm, 3 bath for 8 nights at Maui Banyan # 305 in S Kihei, HI and what a fiasco it was. We arrived on Friday, May 30, 2025 and found the refrigerator was not working. The items we placed in there were warmer than we put them in the frig. and coupled with the constant leak, the floor was a trip hazard. (Of the 8, we had a 9 month old and 4 that are not spring chickens). We telephoned the phone # provided, that very afternoon and during business hrs, no live person, so left a voice msg. On Saturday, it was apparent the AC was not working in one of the bedrooms, the television in a different bedroom could not be properly operated unless it was from the living room. The major reason we settled on this rental is b/c they boast of a "nice" pull-out sleeper soft and that would have suited us perfectly for the pre-teen - had we been able to open it. We telephoned again and requested maintenace or service, or anyone to rectify the frig, AC, and sofa bed. An answer and seemingly sincere person that promised someone would resolve the issues right away. No one came; no one called. Called again Sunday, again, the voice message. FINALLY, after a few more calls, a very nice "maintence" person arrived. He really was nice. Walked around, assurred us the refrigerator would be replaced (which would take care of the hazard), was horrified at the extreme temp in the bdrm with non-working AC, determined the sofa will not open b/c some metal rod is bent out of place. He was unsure as to what would be done about that. He also examined one of the sliding doors that was very difficult to impossible to open, but appeared as though it would fall off the tract, and again indicated he was unsure what could be done about that. We also inquired about the "broken hot tub" as everyone was attempting to use the only one working, making for one very crowded area while the other pool area was almost empty. There was a lovely b'bque area with 3 large grills by the pool with the working spa; unfortunately, they did not work. After that nice maintence man left, we really believed that things were going to be taken care of. We never saw anyone again, never heard anything again, despite several more telephone calls. After all was said and done, a very meager refund was given and it cannot go without being said, the resort thought it was very generous. It was less than one nights rental. When there was no further communication from them, I telephoned the corporate office, the rental company, and even sent an email. At one point, I reached a live person that promised a call the next day from the manager. That was July, 2025. Still nothing. Hope this info provided information that will prove helpful. read more

Wow!!!! These reviews are horrendous. Everyone speaking out about bad experiences and Steve just responds with a nonchalant attitude. I already know I'm not going to get any satisfaction from Maui rental group, but just really hope people take the time to read these reviews. They are legit!!! We never received a "24 hour in advance" email with checking instructions. So as we got off the plane and driving to our unit, we finally got a text with the door code. Only problem...it didn't work. It took several calls, emails, texts... and several code attempts, till they found one that worked. We checked in on Friday 10/18 and as of today (Tuesday 10/22) after numerous calls, emails and texts to the many different numbers they list...we've been trying to get more towels (2 for the week, just isn't acceptable) and we gave up on trying to get a pool key. They keep promising us that a room cleaner will leave them in the room, and each day we return to our room and still NOTHING! We paid for an Ocean View (in our agreement) and our view is the parking lot. At least the bed is comfortable, but that's the only positive I am able to pass on. DO NOT BE PERSUADED by any offers this "Ghost" company makes. We still have 3 nights left here and just gave up on trying to get someone to respond. We are going to make the best of it and not let this sour our time on this beautiful island of Maui! It's only a place to sleep and shower. read more

I really wanted to like this company. And in good faith I reached out and got in touch with them to possibly do business. As shown in the stars breakdown below, I have scored them with wit 5 stars, 4 stars, 3 stars and 1 star, for various items, as fair as possible. We reached out to Steve Milo, CEO of Maui Rental Group's parent company VTrips/Vacation Rental Pros in March 2021, to inquire about their condo management services. .... Mr Milo's assistant directed me to Matt Robbins in Maui, Owner Acquisitions Manager at their Maui Rental Group. (this yelp listing) My experience with Maui Rental Group. Matt Robbins was not able to provide the management rates we were seeking (competitive with other condo management co's we were talking with) so in our EMAIL conversation I told Matt no thank you. In addition, I was further not interested in Maui Rent Group after discovering their yelp reviews. Today, July 20, 2021, I am disturbed because, after clearly stating to Matt Robbins in March that we were not interested in signing with them, and further telling Mr Robbins we were signing with another condo management company that week (in March 2021)... I am now getting direct calls (not emails!!!) from Mr Robbin's colleague Tom at Maui Rental Group, on my private cell number! Ugg. Shady stuff. Third time we've come to Maui on vacation and have had less than desirable experiences each time UNTIL NOW! I don't know if there's a new owner or new management, but whomever is in charge has streamlined their business model. My husband and I were hesitant to go due to all the strict COVID rules that HI has in place now, but the front desk staff led us through everything. Check-in was painless! In March 2019, I booked a condo in Maui for Sept 2019. Maui Rental Group/Vtrips cancelled our stay literally the day upon our arrival. We, including one pregnant woman, walked into the condo to the beds flipped over & it seemed to look like a robbery took place. After many attempted calls, we find out that the condo was infested with bedbugs & the company said there was nothing they could do for us, except cancel & provide a refund. We landed in the evening & they did not have a place to stay for us, so we had to manage that on our own. To make matters worse, we planned this trip with a group of about 21 people and I personally handpicked each listing to book (through different rental agencies) to ensure we had 3 condos literally next to each other (same property, same building, same floor, side by side). We were forced to stay on the complete opposite end of the island in a 2 star hotel room. The room was 200 sq ft & had geckos running around, so we had to switch rooms. We were forced to pay the high resort fees, when we did not even utilize a single thing there. We were also forced to find a new rental, at a higher cost, since it was now considered a last minute booking. The company has not only given me the run around, but blatantly ignore or hang up on on my calls, emails, messages, etc. There were times it took up to 21 days to get a response. The initial emails I sent out to remedy this situation was sent Oct 2, Nov 20, and Dec 10. Each one was ignored my Maui Rental Group. On Dec 11, over 2 & a half months since my first email, I finally get a response from their parent company, Vtrips. Because of the inaction by the company, I decided to dispute this with my bank. Since the first payments were back in March/June, I was only able to file on the last payment submitted, hoping the result of that would at least lead to the rightful full refund. However, they used my dispute as a reason to say that can no longer refund any more money. read more

Do not trust this company or any review claiming it is legitimate. On July 2, 2021, we booked a condo in Wailea. The agreement provided for a $300 deposit with full payment to follow and the receipt noted a $300 deposit. However, Maui Rental Group immediately charged the full amount of the rental, $2200, without authorization. Later, that same evening, Maui Rental Group cancelled the reservation. It took me more than a day to get someone on the phone. They said the reservation was cancelled because the unit was not available and that the payment was refunded. Five days later, on July 7, 2021, no money was refunded. Now, they claim it's my bank's fault and I should take it up with my bank. My bank acknowledges that have not received anything from them. They are crooks with a history of doing this. Do not, under any circumstance, use Maui Rental Group. read more

Seriously Maui Rental Group? During Maui's worst natural disaster your business practices defy logic and common sense. Attempting to profit during an island emergency is reprehensible. As a first time VRBO client, I rented one of your units in Wailea to celebrate my parents upcoming 80th birthday next month (Sept 2023). The day following the devastating fire (Aug 11th) I called VRBO to ask what I should do about my upcoming trip given the comments by Hawaii's Governor, the Tourism Board and even the President of the United States. Specifically, their request to cancel any unnecessary travel to the island. VRBO told me to contact the host, Maui Rental Group, and I spoke to property manager and supervisor Agnes. I was told since I was within 60 days of my paid rental I could not get my money refunded but I could switch to another date within a year. We simply don't want to visit Maui anytime soon out of respect for the many who have died and the local residents trying to cope with the magnitude of this disaster. I understood Agnes was worried about losing the commission by refunding my 2k dollars, but when she told me the authorities had not mandated cancelling upcoming travel, only recommended it, and that we would still have a great celebration I knew she was delusional. Do the right thing Maui Rental Group and refund my full payment--attempting to benefit financially during this time is the wrong way to go. You can contact me anytime this week as I know you have many concerned customers. PS. Steve, why didn't you consider offering your customers impacted by the fires, with reservations inside your 60-day window, a refund of their full payment less a 10-20% cancellation fee donated to the local Maui fire department or Red Cross? This is something hosts in other parts of Maui have done and it sends a stronger message about the motivations of VTrips than the one I've received from your regional director onsite and after reading your reply below. Doing so would make me regard VTrips as a company invested in their local community and one I want to do business with in the future, rather than one to steer clear of. read more

We used Maui rental group for quite a few years. When Vacation Rental Pros took over the service was not impressive at all. The transition was horrible. We got bookings in the beginning, then there less and less bookings. They claimed it was due to the volcano. We did some research only to find the volcano did not impact other booking companies. We ended up switching to CB Island Property management. Maui rental group moved our one good booking and left us with one horrible booking. I would not recommend this company at all. Not to mention they cannot keep their staff. This tells you a lot. Beware! read more

This company is doing nothing to help us in regards to our reservation that had to be cancelled from Mach 2020. They have no exceptions for anything related to COVID. They had no regards to what was going on when I called to tell them that the county I reside in had put us on a shelter in place order and we couldn't come to Maui.. It wasnt a big deal to them because Hawaii hadn't been put on any restrictions yet. 3 days later the Governor bans travel to the islands! They want to keep having us "push" our reservation out, which is very unrealistic for people who have had to take years to plan this trip in the first place, let alone when we are in law enforcement in and only get to choose vacation dates ONCE per year, 5 months before the next year starts!! Which by the way-the agent I talked to had the audacity to ask me how long we have been in law enforcement when I told her about the vacation request times.. WHAT TF DOES THAT MATTER!!??...They will refund us HALF of our reservation total if we all together cancel the reservation! Coming back with "its their policy" is BULL$HIT! I didn't have to cancel the trip due to my choice! Definitely WOULD NOT recommend booking through this company EVER!! They handled our past 2 stays at the Kapalua Bay Villa 21G4 in professional and stress free manner. They were quick to respond to any questions and were friendly to deal with. In all fairness, the bulk of the kudos go to the owners of that particular Villa, who obviously take great care of their home, but Maui Rental Group is sooooo much better than prior rental agencies. I rented from this company for the Grand Champions Unit #144 for 10 nights 1/3-1/14. My problem with this company is they misrepresented the rental as being outstanding, far from that. It was actually dirty, carpets soiled, everything was top cleaned. the fan in the Master bedroom was about to fly off the ceiling if you turned it on. I called the after hours service to report it, and o one called back. Some service. Bathroom mats had bleach stains, we even had to flip the bedroom mattress it was so bad! After 2 nights, we were advised of a medical emergency and were summoned back to our home. I immediately went to the office to advise them we would be leaving after four nights. The Receptionist informed me they were having calls for rentals and if rented we could get some of our money returned. They lied, we checked their web page and they never opened up the rental. The Office Manager whom I requested call me, never did. All they cared about was the money. Too bad, cause I rented from this group two times prior. read more

Hope this review is helpful to travellers. Wish I would of been better informed on their service that they offered. First we had a VERY special event that we were attending in Maui. Our daughter was planning her wedding for Oct 30th at the four seasons. We booked thru MRG in Dec /2016 and I thoroughly explained to the staff member who unfortunately no longer works there what our purpose of the trip was. I very very excited as we were the parents of the bride. Told her what we had planned and what purposes I would be using the unit for. We got to the rental on Oct 232017 in the midst of a very large storm. Location was hard to find as it was dark and not very well lite. We got in got the air on and decided to eat something that we picked up from our journey from the airport. Dishes in cupboard were dirty, it looked like someone just placed the back in after using them!!!! So I removed all of them and passed them thru the dishwasher...welcome to Maui!!! Air con was not working in the lower part of the unit day of the wedding so I got dressed in a very humid unit. There was food left from previous clients with out of date on them...not very throughly cleaned and checked by cleaning staff. Also there was way too much personal stuff in the closets, I had to put it all under the beds so we could hang our clothes in the closets. Musty smell also came from the carpets. We returned home and I contacted MRG and spoke with the manager/supervisor of the office and she really didn't understand why I was calling. It seems to me that this group is not as efficient as booking with VRBO and they have not yet written me with a response of follow up to my issues that we experienced. We are currently renting a condo through Maui Rental Group. They have an office in Wailea and are unfortunately a division of VTrips. We have not had a good experience thus far. We were not notified of construction at the main pool pavilion where we are staying during booking. (& would not have booked our current property with children had we been notified) We have been on the phone and email with the local office but all decisions seem to be aggregated at the Vtrips corp level in Florida and have not reached a resolution yet (7 days in!). There have to be better options for condo booking in terms of customer service. read more

We enjoyed a full week on Maui staying at Makena Surf, (unit F-305, I believe.) I was a bit concerned at first being on the top floor, hauling luggage up and down but the unit was exceptional. The most spectacular view, every need and want covered and provided made this an easy and comfortable trip. Having enjoyed ourselves with peace and quiet, amazing grounds and ammenities I can't imagine going anywhere else. We had a few glitches with the cable service but Roxanne and her organized staff there wasted no time correcting it. Maui Rental Group is not responsive to rental issues and does not return phone calls. In April of 2013, I contracted to rent a condo in Kihei through a private owner. The dates of our stay were to be September 28th through October 6th 2013. At the same time, I also booked the unit next door with another owner to accommodate our son, daughter-in-law and 4 year-old granddaughter. The balance for the condo was paid in full the end of July. On September 6th , I received an email from the owner telling me that he had sold this unit, and that Maui Rental Group would be managing the unit for the new owner. The prior owner said the new owner was interested in doing some renovations, and so I would be contacted to see if I would accept a comparable condo. The prior owner also stated the new owner would stand by all rentals already booked. I believe that also is the law. Since I had rented two side-by-side units to accommodate our family group, I immediately emailed the Maui Rental Group, owner Paul Dobson specifically, to alert him to my particular situation. I advised him that unless he was able to find us something at least within the same building in this condo complex, I would not wish to take it. I asked if it were possible to delay renovations until after our stay, which was only 3 weeks away. I did not receive any reply from Paul, so I called his office on September 12th. He was on another call, so I left a detailed voice mail and referred to the email I had sent him on the 6th. Later that day, I received a call from someone I assumed was from Maui Rental Group offering me a unit in a building across the complex. I asked if they had read my email or listened to my voice mail message? Well it turned out this was not Maui Rental Group, but the realtor who had handled the sale. The realtor was not aware of my situation because no one from Maui Rental Group had told her anything. In fact the realtor told me that it was now impossible to stay in the unit I had contracted for. Escrow had closed that morning, and immediately workers had rendered the unit uninhabitable! I immediately called Maui Rental Group asking for Paul. Again I was told he was on another call. I declined to leave a voice mail, but I gave the details of the problem to the woman who answered the phone. I explained how upset I was with the situation. I was assured Paul would call me back right away. I have NEVER received any call back from Paul or ANYONE at Maui Rental Group. NEVER. The only person that saved our carefully planned vacation was the realtor. She went to great length to locate us another unit in the same building and on the same floor. As far as I can tell, Maui Rental Group did zero to solve this problem, and likely caused the problem by failing to pass on important information in a timely manner, or simply not passing it on at all. Just FYI, Maui Rental Group manages no other units in this property. So I have no idea where they might have tried to relocate us to. As I final note, it is now more than 5 1/2 weeks later, and I have still not received the promised return phone call from Maui Rental Group - no explanation, no apology, nothing. This is completely unprofessional and demonstrates total disregard for those for rent from them. Beware. read more

Avoid at all costs. Maui Rental Group is a Scam! We have booked Vacations rentals in 7 different countries, and I have never had a single negative experience until now. Whatever price you've think you booked at will be much less than what they expect you to pay; if you get to stay at all. We planned a stay for Easter 2020. Covid-19 cancelled all our plans. We spent hours trying to get ahold of a representative from Maui Rental Group, and we still haven't heard back. All we got was letter that stated that: they could not accommodate us, they would not refund any of our money, and they 'offered' us an option to choose from a very limited amount of dates in a lesser accommodation for wait for it -- twice the price we paid for this years stay! The 'offer to rebook' voided our travel insurance. By the way, we found out this company is on a short watch-list of credit card fraud and insurance companies. They now are holding our insurance/cancellation claim hostage for $5800 for a one week stay. Pleas don't make the same mistake, there are many other reputable agencies in Maui. read more

We called to let them know that the air conditioning was out in our unit and they actually called back leaving a message saying someone would be here on Monday between 2 & 4. That's ridiculous... I rented #501 at the Royal Mauian. In my last email I was told "I would live on the lanai-patio and watch the sunsets and Whales". When we arrived and our view was of the busy South Kihei Road and a parking lot we couldn't help but feel some disappointment as this was for our wedding and honeymoon. I first contacted the group by email, which an after hours group responded to ask which unit I was in. After I replied and didn't hear anything back I sent the same e-mail again in case they didn't receive it. The next day they still hadn't got back to me so I thought it would be easiest to call them. The gal on the phone explained to me that she had worked there for less than a year so she didn't know what to tell me, so I asked if perhaps I could speak to someone who could tell me something. She told me that she would see if her manager could call me or email me. So, I decided to resend the original email incase they still hadn't received it. We checked in on the 29th and today is the 1st, we still haven't had any communication on our "Sunsets and whale watching". At this point anything would be better than nothing but I suppose that is too much to ask. Instead we will make the best of it and enjoy our wedding. For the record, I am typically not a complainer and I actually created this Yelp account specifically for this interaction with the Maui Rental Group. read more
