Beautiful greens: Swiss chard, kale and lettuce.

We had the opportunity to visit Maui Nui Farm on our first trip to Maui. What a wonderful experience! Great produce and fruits grown on site. Nui and her staff were welcoming, helpful and informative. She grows amazing tender and flavorful kale and the dragon fruit "orchard" is impressive. If I find myself in Maui again I will be back!

We stopped here to get some food after a hike at Haleakala Crater. The Thai food truck was great! We ordered pad Thai, yellow curry and fried rice. Food was authentic and very flavorful. We walked around the farm while we waited for our food. We bought some papaya and mangoes. I cannot say enough about the fresh mangoes. It was so sweet and so juicy! I believe it's called rainbow mangoes. Regret that we didn't buy more! There's a canopy area with benches that you can sit and enjoy your meal.

So, we signed up on their website, which is required. Tour groups are limited to 25 people, so it won't be crowded. We met outside the Kihei Library. Keith was there, eager to get to know us and we got to know each other. Keith is a fountain of information and had a notebook of visual aids to share with us. We had a short walk through Kalama Park and learned lots of the history of Kihei, back through the time of the Hawaiian kingdom, during World War II and the present day. The mystery of the life size Humpback Whale statue was solved. Who made it? How did it wind up here? Who adds a giant lei to it twice a year? My favorite part was learning about the Maps of the Mokupuni, and finding our Ahupua'a and Moku. The tour ended with a beautiful sunset from the seawall at Kalama Park. Please don't forget to tip your nice tour guide!

We arranged the day so we could have lunch at an authentic bbq which was incredibly delicious. Saw the best stops on the road to Hanna that a big tour bus would miss. She knows so much about the land in Maui and has wonderful stories to tell and incredible people to introduce you to! The weather in Hana was not so great, so she decided it would be best to take us to the West Side of Maui, a sort of "mini Hana" road trip. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! We explored a few small trails and breathtaking waterfalls. We were blown away. She came prepared with towels, bug spray, extra water, and sunscreen. Thanks Kelsey! During our tour, we stopped to visit Auntie Lorraine's Shaved Ice! We highly recommend this place as the banana bread and shaved ice are out of this world amazing. (May have to go back to get more before we leave!!!). Auntie Lorraine is a sweetheart who is known by many visitors and locals and you're sure to be captured by her captivating stories and kindness. Kelsey really made our trip to Maui unforgettable because we would have never found such beautiful spots on our own. She'll take the leap for you and you can't help but follow her lead. I was traveling with my three kids, ranging in age from 4 to 22, and somehow Kat created an experience that every single one of them loved. That alone says a lot! Kat is incredibly knowledgeable and shared so much with us about the history of Maui, Hawaiian culture, the people, and the land. But what makes her truly special goes far beyond her knowledge. You can tell how deeply she cares about the island, its people, and the guests she takes out. Nothing felt rushed or like a typical tourist excursion. It felt personal, thoughtful, and genuine. She went out of her way to make sure everyone was comfortable and was especially wonderful about accommodating my four-year-old. I honestly don't think we would have experienced the Road to Hana--or Maui--in the same way without her. It was educational, beautiful, fun, and truly magical. These are memories my family and I will cherish forever. Five stars simply aren't enough. If you're debating whether to book with Kat, book the tour. You will be so glad you did.

That photographer is Alicia of The Captured Experience. Why do I believe this? I did a full day road to Hana shoot with her in January 2022 and it was mind blowing: I have always hated having my picture taken (because pictures look like me, and I've never felt particularly attractive), but I had a wild hair and signed up for a shoot with her. She made it fun, light hearted, and relaxed, and the images that resulted are incredible. And it's not just my opinion: check her FB and Insta for comments from other clients.
