We just finished the Talk Story tasting of their red wines which were all excellent. We usually go to Europe on vacation and enjoy wines there but these were all good. Compliment. It was an interesting driver from Kihei up the mountain to Maui Wine, but it was well worth the windy road (and the occasional downpours we encountered while there!). We joined two other couples for a wonderful wine tasting paired with small bites. The table for 8 is in the old jail building, offering an intimate experience in a relaxed atmosphere. We continued our wine tasting by going to the main building where we had wo different flights of wine -- one of sparkling wine and one of robust reds. We also chatted with a lovely couple who had just gotten married, and we helped them celebrate by gifting them a glass of bubbly and two bottles to take with them. I love pineapples and at Maui Wine is all about pineapples! We came here to sample the Crown of Fruits made from 100% Maui Gold pineapples grown in Hali'maile. The Three 2 oz Tasting Carafes are Hula o Maui Sparkling Pineapple brut, Maui Blanc Pineapple semi-dry, Maui Splash Pineapple sweet liliko'i. They were refreshingly delicious! I should also add the non-alcoholic Liliko'i Sunrise made with sugarcane, Dane pineapple, liliko'i syrup and sparkling water. It was refreshingly nice. I'm so glad we decided to check out Maui Wine this last time we were on Maui. Located in Upcountry, we stopped by after a drive up to Haleakala. The grounds are beautiful with several different seating areas surrounded by large mature trees. It was a cool and slightly cloudy day when we were there. It was a nice break from the hot muggy climate in the Kaanapali area. We were seated at one of those high tables on an outside patio area. Then, you order your wine or snacks at the tasting counter. Patio seating areas allow you to take in the lovely ambience of the property. I was nicely surprised to find some very good reds. I liked their 2022 GSM the best. Mele, a red blend was also good, a lighter red than the GSM. We later found Mele in local markets, making it an easy choice of a bottle of wine to buy and take back to enjoy at our hotel. Maui Wine will definitely be on my list for the next time we return to Maui. read more

Our guide made reservations well in advance $12 for a flight of three pineapple tasting which is very reasonable. Love pineapple juice but pineapple wine? $10 for goat cheese topped with pineapple wine syrup served with crackers.$9 for jalapeno pineapple kettle corn. No outside food permitted just like in the movie theaters. However these prices far exceed any food I've seen in the movie theaters . I always love to visit Maui Wine when in town. They make a delicious Maui Blanc wine that is so refreshing and tasty for the summer. I enjoy the hint of pineapple for the after taste. When came back this visit to get a few jars of the Rosé Gold Guava Jam. It is so good on a charcuterie board filled with grapes, salami and crackers. The drive from the airport area is at least about 45 minutes to an hour through long windy roads mostly narrow. Expect locals to be on your tail just pull over. Let them go through.. but also be the drive is worth it because you will have some beautiful views and it's a nice winery to enjoy samples of their variety of wines. Staff are very friendly and will definitely provide good suggestions for you. They do offer small food tastings. The restrooms are very clean.. They have some good areas to take some great pictures. they do offer military discount so don't forget to ask. read more

Beautiful environment, warm welcome, and now: new! Syrah tastings! 2021! The small plates menu hasn't changed much and, luckily, still continues to carry my favorites: ulu hummus, and truffle potato chips. YUM. I always enjoy bringing guests here. Sometimes I will make an excuse to go, just because I personally enjoy the relaxing ambience and the peaceful surroundings. The winery has come a long way from its humble beginnings, but it still includes its flagship product, the popular fruit wines made of pineapple, a slice of fragrant and sweet nostalgia for tourists to enjoy after returning home. At some point, Maui Winery added another fruit-based libation: Lehua, a raspberry liquer which is delicious in desserts and as the basis for fun drinks. The raspberries are local, but I've heard that to keep up with production, sometimes raspberries are also imported. The primary varietal Ulupalakua Vineyards produce is syrah, since the plant endures the weather we have upcountry the best. I've enjoyed all their lines, including their white syrah. I know that winemaking, from reading, not experience (I wish!) is a long game to play, so I am hopeful that Maui Winery will continue to evolve and develop its product lines, as it is an interesting story to watch (and taste!) as it unfolds. read more

Seeing that pineapple wines are offered at Maui Wine, we decided we wanted to take a drive to Kula and give 'em a try. I must say I'm glad we did. Tastings are done a little differently than I'm accustomed to, albeit it's been some time since I've gone wine tasting. Here, they offer a seated tasting. We were seated at a table on the oversized porch, overlooking the beautifully manicured grounds with the ocean in the background. We opted for the pineapple flight (Hula o Maui, Maui Blanc, and Maui Splash) along with an order of Brie happy; cheese, rose-guava jam, sweet peppers, and mixed nuts served with crackers. The wine was quite different but quite good. I picked up a couple bottles to take home. It was definitely worth a visit; we had a good time. read more

After a visit to Haleakala National Park, we drove the backroads to Maui Wine. Located in the Upcountry, it is a stunning drive and it takes you away from the tourist spots on Maui. We were seated on the patio overlooking the scenery of Maui. We ordered a small plate with creamy Brie cheese, rose guava jam, crackers, nuts and sweet red peppers. Mr. B chose the Rose tasting of 3 wines, and I did the pineapple wines tasting. You may be thinking that pineapple wines sound gimmicky or cheesy, but they are actually delicious, refreshing and quite complex. We chilled on the porch, sipped our wines, enjoyed our snacks and just relaxed never wanting to leave. The Rose wines were quite nice, but I have to go with the pineapple. Our favorites were the Maui Blanc and Hula O Maui Pineapple Sparkling Wine. The service was friendly, helpful, informative and excellent. We stopped in to the little shop, bought our two bottles and a bottle of the rose guava jam that was on our board, it is a taste of the islands and delicious. We were sad to leave, as this is one of our favorite spots to visit on Maui. Make it a go to the next time you are in Maui, you will love it. read more

This is such a cool spot in upcountry. But let's not mess around, these 5 stars go to one thing: the rosé guava jam. I was given this as a gift once, and have been dreaming about it since. You can imagine my utter glee when we went back, and saw that they still had it. Served alongside Brie and some nuts as a dish, we ordered that and some of the truffle potato chips for snacking. And then I proceed to buy two jars to take home. Between our family, I think we cleared the shelf of the guava jam. And id do it again. I am a jam connoisseur, unprofessionally, and this is the BEST jam ever. On to the wine, it's fine. The Grenache was not it. I finished it last. That being said, I live in a place with some of the best wine in the country, so my expectations elsewhere are never high. The Malbec was good, the GSM was good. I wish I would have tried a pineapple wine flight! This place is 100% vibes. Upcountry, sweeping lands, watching clouds roll in off the mountain. I loved the scenery and atmosphere. It was really relaxing to sit and sip on wine. I ordered the Rose flight and the Estate flight. Then I had a glass of the Syrah Rose and of the 2021 Block 3 Syrah. We also ordered a grazer plate and chips. I was pleasantly surprised of how great it was. The service was excellent. They even had a gift shop where I purchased some items to go. This place is tucked away on the way to Haleakalā and is located in a private area that had beautiful grounds. They were happy to seat us without reservations. Their tasting area was so cute and relaxing. Their wines were unique, fun, and brought out true Maui flavors. We tried the pineapple tasting and it was so cool to really taste the flavor of pineapple in the 3 different pours. Our host was kind and patient and answered all our questions happily. I had a reservation for the walking tour on 12/31. I was very excited to take my cousin here, however extenuating circumstances happened with our driver and as soon as I realized we would not make it in time I called, was transferred to who is in charge of reservations (I believe Amanda). I left a voicemail explaining the situation hoping to reschedule or figure something out but she didn't reply to my voicemail. a few hours later I received an automated email for a charge for missing my reservation. If you are reading this, I'll save you the time for the drive. Pass on this one, it's not worth the journey by any means. In simple terms, the wine is just not very good. You can tell that they are making a business of "Maui wine," but there is a reason that Maui wine is not popular wine---It doesn't taste good. This not not a true wine tasting experience. They give you a flight of 3 tastes, and that's it. Want to try something else? Be ready to pay for a taste. Want to revisit anything? Pay more. Want to buy a bottle for $60? They don't waive the tasting fee. The overpriced Jalapeno Pineapple popcorn was also not very food. Didn't have enough pineapple flavor, and the jalapeno was not very prominent. It did make me cough constantly as I ate it though. Last year, we skipped trying this place out, and I kind of wish that we skipped it this year too... Regarding service, there was nothing spectacular here. Minimal descriptions on wine, and even to be greeted upon check-in had us stand at an empty host stand for about 5 minutes wondering if we were at the right spot. read more

This winery is a bit out of the way of everything, but definitely a nice spot to visit if you have some extra time. We tried the 2 flights they offer & their daily special. The wines were okay, I prefer sweet wines & surprisingly these were not to my liking. However, the daily special offered their house tri-pepper jam, port salut cheese, prosciutto, nuts, & dried pineapple. This was an amazing pairing & probably our favorite thing out of the whole experience. The tri-pepper jam was so amazing that we bought 2 jars. The port salut was creamy & now one of my favorite cheeses. I will note that the service here was great & super nice to us. It was a windy day & lots of the leaves were flying into our wine glasses, all over our table, & in our hair. It was a bit of a struggle for us as we had to keep covering our glasses. Couldn't resist coming even though it was out of the way but I needed to try pineapples wine while I was in Maui and it did not disappoint. I do like that it's secluded so it feels more private and serene. I shared the wine flight which included the Hula o Maui (sparkling), Maui Blanc (off-dry), and Maui Splash (sweet). All of them were pretty good depending on what you like with a couple of them being a tad sweet. Each one was fresh and refreshing and you can taste the pineapple with each sip. We also got a wine cocktail because I like sweet stuff so we opted for the Hula Hoop which was the sparkling pineapple with lollipop syrup. This was my favorite out of all the ones we tasted because it had a little mixed flavor profile. The ambiance was nice and serene which I enjoyed. Overall a great place to chill and walk around a little bit. MauiWine also faces the water which is nice to drive by and look at while you're at the grounds. read more

The wines won't win any international awards but the venue is inviting and the appetizers are delicious! We naturally tried the 3-flight pineapple wine tasting ($12) along with their goat cheese and pineapple syrup appetizer with crackers. The wines ranged from a little too smoky to a little too sweet or sour... drinkable for sure though. The app stole the show, however, with plenty of crackers and a really savory dip (see pic). Tables are cozily scattered throughout the small venue. Reservations are pretty much required, although they can be had the same day if it's a weekday. No cc required to hold. The drive there is pleasant, paved, without the scary/narrow bridges on the way to Hana. And parking is free and ample. Bathrooms are large/clean too. Came to Maui Wine multiple times in the past and things have drastically changed: 1. Wasn't greeted quickly; we had to wander the seating area, cashier area and the bar area to look for any workers whom could help us with getting seated for a wine tasting. We finally found someone near the bar area. Not too long of a wait to be seated ~5 min. 2. We ordered a Celebration wine tasting for a celebration. I feel the wine isn't as good as it used to be. It's dull and lacking sweetness as one would expect a fruit wine to have. We got a card of the different wine descriptions; no in person descriptions. It felt very assembly line and not personal at all. 3. We ordered a charcuterie board with goat cheese, candied pecans, crackers, ulu hummus, bell peppers, olives, & it was garnished with a sprig of fresh basil. Everything on the charcuterie board was great EXCEPT the basil due to having over 50 (yes, fifty) aphids under the leaves. WE FOUND THE APHIDS AFTER EATING 2/3 OF THE BASIL. We alerted the waitress of the aphids as we don't want anyone else to have any on their basil. The waitress told us they always wash all of their basil really good and this was the first time she's ever seen that. Then, she went to check all the other basil behind the bar and told us there wasn't any aphids on their other basil. We didn't ask for any refunds/or discounts. The manger took off $5 for our one piece of fudge which was $5/piece. The Maui Wine company was misrepresented by the staff of today. Here's a Hint for the manager for future customers: maybe the food that actually had something wrong with it should be removed. Will not be back. read more

First off, we are wine club members, so my review is very much based on the many many visits that I've been so far and how much I love this place. We moved from California last year and definitely missed our winery visit, so we were excited to learn about this winery! Make sure you book a reservation on Resy, because the waitlist might take a long time if you show up without one, especially if you have a larger group. The app is free to use an easy to book. First things first, give yourself plenty of time to get to the winery, especially if you are in the resort areas because you have to drive all the way up to the airport and then come around to go into our country, thanks to the billionaires hoarding the private roads. There is a 15 minute grace. Period. But you should have enough time to get there at the same time. Enjoy the calming, quiet, away from the tourists drive that driving in upcountry offers you. You will pass through a few towns before going through the last section of the drive so make sure you are fully aware of your driving capabilities. The winery itself is located on a historic estate that used to be owned by one of the Hawaiian kings where they used to have hula circles and special events. Now it is open to anyone dining and drinking at the establishment. They do provide a room that's filled with historical signs and timelines for you to soak in all the history, as well as a paper map that you can use to walk around the main portion of the property closest to the highway. They do not offer any touring or anything like that at the moment, but I'm hoping that they will bring that back at some point this future. The most unique thing about this winery is that they make pineapple wine. Probably something you have never tried before. It's delicious and we love it and definitely recommend it to you because it's something you won't find Ralphs. They do have a grape wine tastings, as well as for pours, but keep in mind, they do not offer a full meal for lunch in any sense. They only have small plates, tapas, cheese, boards, etc. All that they serve is delicious so definitely try out their snacks and find out what the daily special is. Besides wine, there is a whole merchandise store that includes local products made by vendors as well as their own 100% Maui, coffee, wine, syrups, chocolates, T-shirts, sweaters, the list goes on and on. We definitely love buying some of the syrups and coffee to give us gifts to friends. By being members of the club, we pay twice a year for a six bottle package, sometimes, including wine that are not on the regular menu. They have different priced tiers of wine subscriptions for the members and the best part is that you get two free tastings every month! We are back every month like clockwork because it's such a fun drive up to the upcountry in Texas away from our normal life in town. They do offer memberships if you live abroad and include shipping charges to make sure you get your products wherever you may live. They also do sell individual bottles and can put your purchases for you in packaging so that it does not break in your check in baggage. Overall, this place is a new monthly tradition for us living in Maui. I definitely recommend you checking out and spending some time in the country away from the mega resorts. read more

MauiWine was on our Hawaii list as a "maybe if we have time" destination - but it ended up being one of my favorite stops!! We had a rainy day and decided to make the drive from Lahaina. There was plenty of covered seating and an adorable little store inside where we got souvenirs. We fell in love with the wine so much that we shipped 6 bottles home - and the MauiWine staff even packed it up for us in an airport-approved box! Now I get so excited telling my friends "it's wine made from pineapples and it's only sold in Maui!" If it wasn't raining we would have wandered the property a bit more because it was seriously beautiful. More proof that Maui has so many different sides to it. Table service did take a bit once we were seated but our server was congenial and great with recommending specific wines according to our wine preferences.
