Beautiful experience. Was given upgraded seating when they found out we were on our honeymoon. Food was good. Drinks were ok. Never been entirely wowed by drinks at a luau as they all seem overly sweet and tbh what you'd expect from a hotel bar 30 years ago. Like a mai tai or a pina colada ordered at a luau is not what you'd get if ordered at an upscale place. They're pre-batched - to be expected I suppose for such a large group but for the price you pay for a luau they should be the best on the island - served in a coconut/pineapple, etc. read more

Absolutely the best Lū'au I've been too. It's smaller, more intimate & authentic. The food is made at Andaz hotel and is modern take on traditional Hawaiian feast. It's a plated sampling menu, NOT A BUFFET; so your server brings you a Bento box for appetizers and a large main course plate where try a little of everything. 3 mini desserts were delicious. We have kids ages 5-13 and they were all satisfied & entertained. Enough space for the 5yr old to run around, and the 10yr old to copy the dancers. The service was excellent and the open bar was a huge plus. We attended the Andaz Resort's Feast at Makapu Luau and absolutely loved it! Tables were set up on the lawn with a great view of the beach, and we had front-row seats to the stage. Before the actual luau began, we were treated to temporary Hawaiian tattoos and photographs with the beautiful ocean background. The dinner - with outstanding server Steven - featured a wide variety of traditional food, such as ahi poke, pa'i 'ai, shrimp & pohole, grilled Maui gold pineapple and pua'a kālua, along with braised beef short rib, jasmine rice and pineapple upside down cake. Perfect evening! This is the second luau I have attended on Maui.The first one was a very "Grand" event. This one is more my taste. I appreciated the smaller audience size as well as the private table. Our party of 6 had plenty of room and freedom to converse as we pleased. I loved the lack of a buffet. More time to just sit and enjoy the open bar and lovely scenery. Our waitress was excellent and attentive. The kukui nut lei is a nice keepsake! Food was plated, with smallish portions of each item. Performance- 5 stars, food - 3.5 stars. I give this luau 5 stars based on the show/ performance! The performance is absolutely spectacular with sunset in background! Fire show included!! We learned about the history of hawaii and immersed in a great experience. We were greeted with seashell lei, drinks, had a couple stations for tattoos and stamping. Thought all of this was so cool! Andaz hotel is so stunning so come early before start of luau to take amazing pictures. The package also comes with professional photo free to download. Parking is included with valet. Oh and of course, unlimited drinks! I do have to comment on the food. I would unfortunately give food 3.5 stars. Paid a lot for a "premium" temp tattoo, a shell Lei and purple bread. Food was sincerely very underwhelming. Just like some of the other reviews, very salty and dry. There was nothing premium about the seating we paid for. It was all a gimmick and facade. There were a line of spectators just behind the raised grass stage area watching the whole thing for free. While the performers were very sweet, this was definitely not worth it. The sunset skyline was beautiful though. Again, can enjoy that from any beach on Wailea. Hmmm... would not do this again. Why? -the meat dishes were SO salty. You'd think that since the tickets were so expensive, the food would be reasonable. Nope-you're paying for the show. -which brings to my next point: the tickets were very expensive. Of course, we went during the holiday season, so it makes sense that the tickets would be more expensive than normal. But we paid $320 per person to sit at the very back. Might have been better for us to watch the show for free from one of the swimming pools. BUT- we loved the show. Though we were so far from the stage, we still enjoyed the experience of watching beautiful dances and listening to Hawaiian myths, historical figures of importance, legends, etc. Tip: book early. If you book the day before the show, unless you pay for VIP tickets, you will pay a lot of money and sit in the way back. read more

I was bummed to see the Old Lahaina lu'au was booked until October. The Feast at Mokapu at the Andaz in Wailea was my second choice, though, it was much pricier. I must say it was fantastic. The food was descent and the service top notch. To boot, the performance was amazing. We loved it! The performance was focused on traditional Hawaiian folklore regarding the history of Maui and different culturally relevant stories. Everyone had a pretty decent view of the main stage area, though, the tables are communal so you share space with others depending on party size. We were seated next to two different couples and we got along nicely. The food came out in three courses, with the first course being a bento box with different smaller appetizers and the second course being full of meat. The chicken was the best protein of all and the final course is a small sample of different desserts such as cheesecakes and flourless chocolate cake. The bar is open and the waitress was kind enough to bring refills as needed. Upon arrival, you are greeted with a lei made of shells and a welcome drink. Also a free professional photo is included with a nice back drop of the water. Again, I highly recommend. read more

My first luau, and so much fun! Very professional performances with music, dancing and story telling. You are seated on the grass and will watch and eat with the sunset as a backdrop. I loved the pretty shell leis and the photographer on site that gave us a beautiful memory printed and ready to take home. We bought the VIP seats, so we were seated at the first row at a small table just for us, we had really good service thru out the dinner, no need to run to the bar, just sit back and enjoy! Overall we were very happy with the experience. I would give it a four star, but this was my first one so I do not have anything to compare it with, and the entertainment was worth every second! But the quality of food and drinks where not more than ok. I think we left most of the food that was not really good and also not presented very well, a bit underwhelming. When the bread is the best part of your dining experience that's a problem... So don't come for the food - but come for the show! read more

What a gorgeous setting - the photos you'll walk away from with the Hulu dancers and musicians framed between swaying palm trees, an unreal sunset and the whoosh of approach waves hitting the shoreline all set under a mesmerizing live performance of classic Hawaiian folk tunes - its all right there. That alone is worth the experience. The service is good and attentive and the unlimited bar is just icing on the cake. The food is very good although when I inquired about the experience and again when I registered with my hotel concierge, I was very specific that I had dietary restrictions (I'm pescatarian) and if I could be accommodated as most of the luau's are so focused on pig and beef and chicken. I was told my restrictions would not be an issue and then here comes the bento boxes which were pre portioned with each course (for style and efficiency) however that meant all the items mixed on one plate. The server wasn't very interested in helping me out so I picked around the edges. For that reason, I would not return so I do hope they're reading this to get it right as you can't assume that everyone eats pig, beef and chicken - not very inclusive. The desserts were sub par. The show and performance was perfect - not campy as some can get. Talented performers throughout a narrated experience - and again the setting just can't be outdone. Free validated valet is a nice plus as well. Pricing is on the higher side - I compare to a dinner and Broadway show which is around the same amount of time and its still priced well above that NYC experience so if that helps, not sure it makes sense. read more

TLDR: Venue is gorgeous, show was spectacular, but food was okay.. The evening started with drinks served to you as soon as you check in and an introduction to a photographer who takes a pic that will be printed at the end of the evening. There was an open bar that served wonderful drinks with tropical mixers, though they did get dangerously stronger by the end of the evening. The venue faces out to the water as a backdrop and you watch the sunset as the evening wears on. The show itself was so immersing and educational, truly welcoming you into their culture and allowing you to call it home even for a second. All the performers were beautiful in their own ways, funny, spectacular singers, etc. There was also a fire show at the end! Initially, we were pretty excited for the dinner. The dinner rolls and appetizer bento was actually pretty good but when the dinner bento came out, we were so disappointing. The Kalua pork was dry and most other proteins dry, the fried rice also pretty dry. The huli huli chicken was the best and the sweet potato was okay too. The dessert had a cheesecake that was wonderful but again, the rest was fairly subpar. I think with everything else so wonderfully done, it was kind of a shame that the food wasn't done with as much quality anywhere else. You honestly can find food trucks with $15 plates with way better food. But for a first time luau guest, the rest of it made up for it but with the food being meh, I think a price cut would have made me a happier attendee. read more

HONEST REVIEW: I want to start by saying the performers and service workers were absolutely fantastic at their job! Here's our experience from the beginning... When you walk up to the area, someone greets you and checks you in, you are given a shell lei and an alcoholic (?) drink, and you are guided to your table. My husband and I purchased the premium seating where you get your own smaller table in the very front row. While waiting for the food, we went to take some pictures with a photographer, and digital photos are accessible via QR code they gave us (part of the package for everyone). There were also a couple tables for "cultural activities", it was basically a stamped temporary tattoo you can get on your arms somewhere. There was some bread and butter to start with while things got started, but to fill our time we also hit up the open bar! That was a nice touch. The MC came around and was speaking to the guests, she sings and hosts the show. Her performance was magnificent! She was very easy to chat with, and has an amazing voice. The food that is brought is not buffet style which is easier than waiting in line for a long time, BUT if you want bang for your buck...this is not the one lol It's like a platter of around 5 appetizers and the main course is one plate with a serving of fish (said "fresh caught" but no idea what it was exactly..."white fish" on the menu), short rib, chicken and pulled pork with sweet mashed potatoes and rice. After that the dessert was a few, very small, bites: a Lilikoi tart, and strawberry and chocolate mousse/jello textured thing...sorry I have no idea what it was but I just at the Lili koi tart. That was the best one. I took a bite of the others and left it at that. The appetizers and main course were delicious but I gotta say....for paying premium I kind of wish it was buffet so you can at least eat your money's worth. The songs and dances through the night were executed very well, it was a journey of Hawaiian culture that progressed with each course. You can tell someone put in a lot of hard work and thought to the monologue and dances/music. I do wish we had more of a profound experience...sort of...like...more than a handful of performers? I really sure hope they are paying the employees well, bc for almost $700 as a couple, I was expecting a huge dance group to perform! That was pretty disappointing. Also, I noticed how easily accessible the show was to people who did NOT purchase tickets! People eating dinner at Morimoto or hanging out from the lobby had a clear view of the entire performance! This was quite tragic :( I felt really dumb buying tickets if I knew I could have been chilling at the bar with a drink and could watch the whole thing like that. So overall, service was perfect, performers did a fantastic job although we were expecting more people up there on stage, and food was ok. Open bar and photographers were a nice touch, but if you don't particularly drink more than a couple drinks it's kind of whatever. Would I come back? Nope! But it makes me sad bc the workers are truly doing their best. I just want more bang for my buck and at least SOME exclusivity when I buy a luau admission. So in Maui, We looked for our annual Easter Luau, settling on the Andaz again. Last few years was a nice experience and dinner. This year... wasn't too impressed with the 2nd course. Although, from the time we walked in, the valet young man with the cute mustache offered to take my elderly mother down so she wouldn't have to walk down the 4 staircases. Beautiful hotel I may add. We arrived and they checked is in promptly at 5. The staff was great! Gave us our lai's and welcome drink which were delicious! The gal seated us, and off to the real drinks.. they had a photographer to take our pictures, as many as we wanted.. They also had a tattoo area for a temporary or a permanent one. We went back to our seats and it was rather windy and cool, my guy asked our waiter Steven if my mom and I could have a towel to wrap our shoulders, who would gave thought it was gonna be cool? Steven accommodated, nice and warm from the drier. On to the meal, the first course in a bento box was delicious, a shrimp something, a little salad, Ahi tuna which melted in your mouth, and grilled pineapple with Li Hing Mui vinaigrette, an awakening in your mouth. The 2nd course they had Mahi Mahi which was dry as well as the chicken and Kaluha Pork was so salty, which I wasn't a fan. The short rib and purple sweet potato were good, and dessert. Our go-to luau is always the Old Lahaina Luau. However, when we saw that it was booked for many months ahead of our vacation, we needed an alternative. This was a terrific option. Granted, we're comparing a COVID edition Feast at Mokapu to a non-COVID Old Lahaina Luau, but all things considered this was very enjoyable. The fire dancer was AWESOME, and that's something they don't even offer at Old Lahaina Luau. We also like how the food was delivered in courses. It helped break up the evening and provided something to keep looking forward to. A very nice touch was the free professional photograph. Usually places love to upcharge you for those, but the fact we got an 8x10 for free was awesome. We love the way it turned out. All in all, a great experience! Would recommend. read more

My wife and I have each been to several luaus. Both on Maui and Oahu. This by far was an upscale, and enjoyable experience. We picked the classic seating and still received plated dinner service. We both have food allergies (gluten, dairy, and eggs), and with the plated dinners we were easily accommodated. The food was really good, and gave you a wide selection of Hawaiian food. The entertainment was great, open bar was nice, and the complementary pictures were appreciated. Only bummer was the weather pushed us into a ballroom instead of the normal venue. Luckily, the weather cleared up enough for us to experience the fire dancing outside (which was very very good!). This luau set the bar high and we definitely want to come back. read more

The Feast at Mokapu was such a lovely experience. To be honest, out of all the things my boyfriend and I did in Maui (and we did A LOT), this was probably my favorite and we could not stop talking about it for the rest of the trip. Keep in mind that this was my first luau and trust me, I did extensive research beforehand on which luau to choose, and this one did not let us down! We stayed at the Andaz (where the luau is held) and they were doing a 20% off deal for guests saying at the resort, so that was great! Definitely keep that in mind if you'll be staying there. Beautiful property, by the way. The luau starts at 5:30 pm but I recommend coming early, especially if you were like us and bought the classic seats. We came at 5:15 and there were only two couples in front of us waiting in line. The earlier you come, the better seats you will get, TRUST ME. Each couple/party group is greeted by a hostess and taken to the seating area to choose your seats. We were extremely lucky and got seats in the second row right in the middle! Keep in mind that the front row is only for those who bought the premium seating, but honestly because the luau is small & intimate, anywhere you sit would be good and you'd still be able to see the stage clearly. There are also a handful of activities to do before the luau starts. You could make your own lei bracelet, get a temporary traditional Hawaiian tattoo, and even do some stamps. This would also be the time where you'd want to get your photo taken by the professional photographer, an 8x10 photo is included in the package and it's so great being able to bring home a little photo memory from the experience! Drinks, both alcoholic and non alcoholic are UNLIMITED, perfect time to grab a few cocktails here and there, and you can always grab more throughout the luau. Once the luau starts, everyone would be seated and the performance would start. There will be singing, dancing, and a variety of acts incorporated in the story telling of the origins of Maui and it's culture. Food will be served throughout and don't worry about it being family style, there's plenty of food to go around. There are 15 courses in total, all of which are delicious! Some more delicious than others of course, but there's definitely something for everyone to enjoy. A few favorites of mind was the taro bread, cured beef poke, black pepper prawns, and the ribeye! Ugh, the food was to die for and you do NOT have to wait in any long buffet lines. We felt so spoiled having the food served to our table whilst being able to watch the show. My boyfriend and I had such an amazing time. We laughed and talked to our table mates the whole night and even got pictures with the performers at the end. While I know the price can seem steep, it was definitely WORTH the splurge. This was such a great experience and I can't wait until the next time we come back to this beautiful island. The musicians and performers, first rate! This luau was unlike the one I attended some 25 years ago. So impressive. The show was narrated by a Hawaiian woman who told the stories of Hawaii with great clarity and passion. The musicians were spot on adding to the theatrical aspect. AND, the dancers! Wow. This luau is very overpriced for what it is. It is a very basic dinner and show. The show does not interact with the audience at all, there are really no games or activities for the kids or families. You stand in a very long line for a QR code photo and another long line for a temporary tattoo. The food is mediocre. There is an open bar and the drinks were good. Comparing this to other luaus I have been to on Oahu, I would not recommend this... especially at the extremely high price point. Do yourself a favor and get drinks at the Andaz pool bar and watch the show for free. This is so basic that it should have been included for guests at the hotel, not $300 per ticket. read more

I was blessed to attend this luau where "Luxury Meets Luau". We went a bit early to avoid a line. But of course, there were others that had the same thought. But what was a nice added touch was that they had a server that went down the line that offered mai tais and piña coladas. Once we got to the front of the line, we were greeted with a friendly smile from the hostess and leid by their greeters. We were then escorted to our tables with a short "tour" with our escort pointing out where the activities were for us to enjoy prior to the start of the luau, where the free photo session would be and of course....where the open bar was located and then seated. I was made aware by the mister that this is a small luau, but didn't realize how small intimate it was. A small setting of 9 tables with 10 per seat. Once we sat, I was able to glance around and enjoy the beautiful scenery and the sweet sounds of the music being played by the Tihati serenaders. Like a few luaus on island, Tihati Productions was in charge of the luau entertainment. But the food and service was provided by the Andaz staff. We then decided to mingle a bit and look at the 3 different activities that was featured which were: Ohe Kapala: where the ladies showed how ancient Hawaiians would use bamboo strips with designs carved into the bamboo and then inked and stamped on finished kapa (or sometimes referred to as tapa) for decor. Tattoo or Tatau: Temporary tattoos Kupeē: a nice adorning of weaving flowers and greenery to make as a wristlet or in your hair during the luau. They also offered a free photo session that the photographer passed out in a nice folder towards the ending of the night. The show started with a short prayer from Tiera our lovely emcee. Tiera was beyond superb throughout the luau. Invigorating, effervescent and absolute engaging. Throughout the luau she'd narrate and explain the different dishes. Different dances as she took us on a journey explaining different moolelo (stories) of the island Maui and Mokapu. The meal is a 3 course meal consisting of an array of delicious Hawaiian dishes and preparations. See the attached pictures to see! My favorite choices of the night was the squid luau, paiai and haupia tart. The downside to it all....Being a hula dancer, i found myself doing more critiquing on the entertainment than enjoying it. The thought is there. But the fail on the execution of it. But again. With my hula and Hawaiian legend knowledge, I had more depths of what they could have done. In all...the price is high. But keep in mind that the luau is small and intimate. The grounds are made specifically to enjoy the view and to keep it small. The family style servings are not normal at a luau, but the food was delicious for the most part. Don't expect to have an imu ceremony here like at other luaus...again. The number of guests is relatively small compared to most luaus. There is an open bar with premium booze...not your typical well brands. The service was exceptional. The meal was essentially three course. The first course being small portions of salad, poke, and fruit. The main course consists of mahi, pork, and chicken. The final course being dessert. Overall, the food was very good. HOWEVER, as stated in some other reviews, the meats and fish were too salty...way too salty. That really needs to be addressed. Went during Covid - nice social distanced tables. Food all served separately. The best part of the food was prob the taro bread appetizer (aka don't come for the food) . I think people come for the views and dancing. The show came in parts along with when the food was served. The bar included in the price of the luau and they were strong! No special cocktails (lava flow, daiquiri, blue hawaiin) but they can make you rum and coke! Also there's Mai tai and and a coconut drink alcohol that was their special drinks of the night. There's a non alcoholic lemonade you ask them to add alchy too but they were strong. I have no other Maui luau to compare to but saw reviews saying this was the next best one to look out for after old laihana and that one was booked up so we tried this one and was nice- specially the views. Would say it's worth a visit (we got it for $240pp - more than some of the other luaus offered on the island - wouldn't say it's worth the higher price) would def want to try old laihana next time to see how it compares though but don't know if I would redo this one. I loved my experience here. My husband and I opted for the premier seating (we actually were able to use Chase points to buy the tickets). We were in the front row with a great view. It was all you can drink (open bar and waiters walking around). The food was served in bento boxes because of Covid, which we actually preferred because we liked trying everything. We couldn't finish our food there was so much! For two people who are not picky, we really enjoyed the food. The show was great and would highly recommend doing this on your trip to Maui! read more

The performance and educational portrayal of the Polynesian culture was absolutely wonderful. The welcome drinks were a treat. The 3 stars are for the Hawaiian luau performers, but i would give them 10 stars! Unfortunately the food was extremely underwhelming. I wish there was a separate review for food bc this is no reflection on the performance. All the protein was dry, over cooked, and salty. The pork had a plastic after taste and was dry. The prime rib had large lumps of fat. The fish was "ok." The chicken was palatable bc of the sauce. The desserts were a joke. I spent 300$ per person for petite four style desserts. Nothing was authentically cooked. You're better off reserving a table at morimoto over looking the performance to get the food you'd want, but then you'd deprive the wonderful Polynesian luau of their hard earned money read more

Totally worth the extra money. Beautiful smallish place with great staff, excellent food and fun and educational entertainment. I got in line early, hearing reviews about the first come first serve seating. Seating starts at 5:30, and by 5:00 there were a dozen people in line. We needed 2 high chairs and the staff set us up perfectly. Food was good and there was plenty of it. Also lots of extras - leis for each person, make-your-own orchid bracelet, tattoos, free drinks & free photos of your group. I know it's pricy, but it's worth it! Family style dining, so no long buffet line! Intimate atmosphere so everyone gets a great view of the stage. Phenomenal food! Most things are gluten free! This was amazing. It's pricy but it is an incredible evening. The food is astounding, the entertainment is captivating, and the service is unmatched. Our server was Steven and he may be Superman in disguise. We never wanted for anything and he deserves a raise star, idc if he makes $100,000 a year, he deserves the world. Upon arrival, the welcome & check-in with lei and cocktail ran so smoothly. The sunset and ocean provided a gorgeous backdrop to the intimate setting. The hands on exhibits was nicely engaging for each of the guests, without a crowd to cater to. The food was absolutely delicious and what a great assortment, paired with excellent entertainment. Also, loved the family style dining and with a small intimate size of group vs. a buffet style with up to 500 people. Servers were quick, often around to offer more beverages and fill water, which was awesome! By the time the final course came, the small tarts and cakes perfectly ended the feast with flying colors...and the flaming fire knife dancer ended the fabulous smiles and performances with great excitement! This was our first luau and so worth it. The setting - on the ocean at sunset was amazing. The hostess of the show was incredible - wonderful personality and talent! She made everyone feel welcomed. We enjoyed the smaller size and not being lost in a big crowd. Cocktails were the best drinks I had had on the island. There were so many food items to try - enough for everyone. (But you have to be a fan of Hawaiian food). The entertainers in the show were wonderful - posed for pictures, friendly, talented. Having a professional picture taken as a memory was icing on the cake. read more
