    Virtual decorating class
    Emily J.

So, I originally found Maven's Treats through Michelle's classes at Pinot's Palette. I was hooked after the very first class! So fun and relaxing, and just a great time, especially if you go with friends. But I have also gone alone, and with my kids (yes, there are kid-friendly classes too!) Michelle is a great instructor, guiding you through the decorating process step by step, and giving good tips along the way. The classes are typically 6 pre-made cookies, and all supplies are provided. During the class you also get a cookie (or two) to snack on, which are always the bomb! At the class, Michelle hands out her business card, and tells all her students to contact her with any questions! And she also gives out her cookie recipe! Well, me and a friend decided to make cookies for a party favor, and I ended up texting Michelle some questions. She was super responsive and helpful! She also sold us some piping bags when we were in a pinch and couldn't get the right ones in time! After that I knew I was a customer for life. I began following Maven's Treats on social media, and fast forward to Quarantine 2020, and Michelle sold cookie decorating kits out of her home with contactless porch pick up. Well, in the past couple months I've done four sets (Disneyland, Easter, Mother's day flowers, and Quarantine theme) and they have all turned out great. The first few were online tutorials, the last one was a Zoom virtual class. The kids enjoy it, it's a fun distraction, and they taste great too! I highly recommend following Maven's Treats on Facebook to get in on this! Until things open up again...sigh. Thank you Michelle!

I ordered Mavens Salted Chocolate-chip cookies and they more than exceeded my expectations. From the presentation to the flavor, everything was perfect. I've had several different types of their cookies, and all of them have been delicious. They are absolutely worth the price and I would gladly purchase them again.

Amazing cookies, Michele did a great job at creating custom bridesmaid proposal cookies. She was easy to communicate with. I simply sent her the colors I wanted and a picture of what i had in mind and she made it happen. She even added a special "bride" cookie for myself. They were a huge hit. Definitely ordering from Maven's Treats again. Thanks Michele

I ordered cookies for my bridesmaid proposal boxes and they couldn't have come out any better! I corresponded with Michele and gave her a couple ideas about what I was thinking for small embellishments and she told me what she thought would look nice and on what cookie. They came out better than I could have dreamed! Her cookies really tied my proposal boxes together. They were even boxed with a congratulatory ribbon! It's the small things that make a great business and Michele definitely takes pride in her work and produces memorable goods. I will definitely be ordering again!

They can't really control their guests; that said, the social aspect is heavily encouraged to the detriment of the overall experience. You start off with each person introducing themselves with a fun fact. That eats time that could be spent talking about...I don't know...cooking. The social aspect is mixed in almost literally with your food. You are not just paying for experienced chefs to guide you. You are paying to be grouped with (admittedly friendly) strangers who will kind of ignore the chef and just do their own thing with the meal you will eat later. Unless you are a group of four friends I guess. The unwanted social aspect continues to the end of the night: Where they have each of a us publicly review the experience. Yeah, my review was definitely edited. How are you supposed to say that the very patience the chef's displayed with the chatty guests should have been sharper? They gave a little tip at the end of the night that they say they normally mention during the course of cooking. Yeah, it was not given out earlier because of all the picture taking and socializing. People are definitely having fun. I am admittedly the curmudgeon in this case. This isn't to say that I learned nothing, that the meal was bad, or that I did not have any enjoyment. If anything, it's a good to get out of your comfort zone. I just wish that comfort zone should have been cooking focused, rather than social.

We began with the Aji tuna on crispy rice, topped with a delicate sliver of jalapeño and crispy shallots, a perfect balance of freshness, spice, and crunch. The second course was Stefanie's famous focaccia...one sweet and one savory. The savory version featured parmesan, her homemade bread and butter, pickles from her garden, and a touch of mustard seed. The bread, made simply with flour, water, and salt, takes two to three days to create. The sweet focaccia was equally impressive, topped with brie, honey, and a guava jam made from her own garden-grown guavas... truly special. Next came the sweet potato course, made from her garden's harvest and paired with roasted pine nuts and coconut-shaved gnocchi in brown butter. The flavors were rich yet comforting, and the presentation was artistic and thoughtful. The main course... short ribs with a stunning potato gratin, was a showstopper. The short ribs were tender and deeply flavorful, garnished with delicate edible flowers from her garden, while the gratin was layered beautifully and topped with a fragrant chimichurri. Dessert was one of the best I've ever had: a sticky toffee date cake with a caramel apple sauce made from apples in her garden, served with raw cream vanilla bean ice cream. The balance of warmth, sweetness, and texture was perfection. The wine pairings, thoughtfully curated by Oscar from Sequoia Grove Winery, elevated the entire experience, from the velvety Merlot to the bold Cabernet, every sip complemented the food flawlessly. What makes Chef Stefanie so special is her warmth and authenticity. She shares her passion for food and where it comes from in a way that's engaging and educational, never pretentious. She spends time presenting each dish beautifully, with an artist's eye and a chef's heart. Her artistry, attention to detail, and genuine love for her craft come through in every course. I'll absolutely be attending her future chef's table events, a beautiful evening of intentional cooking, soulful flavors, and gracious hospitality.

I was extremely disappointed we didn't actually cook anything. Everyone was very nice but my expectations for a $100 + cooking class per person were not met considering we didn't cook anything. I was handed a packet with all the recipes for the food we were "making". The first recipe was the crab rangoon except all we did was stuff the wonton wrappers and actually put it together. Same with the bao buns. At no point were the porcupine meatballs even a thing. They were made prior, mentioned, and put on our plates. Everything was made in advance. So I paid to fill wonton wrappers and get printed out recipes I could find online. Also, we weren't even going to get to stuff the bao buns. They were going to have a group of people do each thing - 1 to stuff the buns and the other crab Rangoon except I said I wanted to do the buns too so everyone got to do a couple. Honestly the food was bland except for the bao buns. I won't be using their recipes. Truely disappointed and feel like I was swindled out of money. They should be more forthcoming about what this "cooking class" entails. It's not actually cooking.
