Went in for my first haircut a couple days ago! The staff was SO nice. It was such a relaxing experience. It's nice that they have the massage, hand treatment and quiet room for everyone, no matter what you pay. They are also great because they work with everyone's budget. They have different tiers, $15, $30, $40, etc. so it was really easy to work into my budget. Maven is a lot different than any other place I've been to. The hair dressers don't have their own stations, which was strange to me. I'm used to places that feel more like you're at home. Even though Maven was a relaxing experience, it still just felt really uptight, if that makes sense. I may try it again in the future, but I feel like it might just be a one time experience for me. read more

Could not be more annoyed right now. I went in there naturally very blonde. All I needed was for them to fix my "money piece". Told her to leave my naturally bright blonde but just to fix my bangs, and that I have a black tie dinner in 4 days... I left with my whole head totally ashy, washed out, dark blonde- ish... which, by the way, I still have no money piece to. When I told her it was too dark she told me that I could schedule an appt in 3 months to add more blonde back to it. Then she proceeded to charge me $250. I will not be back. read more

Maven salon is great, as long as you're completely satisfied. However, if you're not and you ask for a touch up a day later they will ignore your texts & try anything to get you to not come back. I finally got them to give me a follow up appointment (an hours drive) @ 6pm. When I got there I wasn't offered coffee, water or anything. I was received with looks of disgust, like a pack of she devils. I was told my hair is exactly the color I wanted. I was told there was nothing they could do to "make me happy". How presumptuous of them to think they know what would make me happy. I was escorted to the door with a promise of a call from the manage and a refund, (yeah right). Two days later, no call & certainly no refund. This is one of those places that's run by snotty nose little bitches, and if you don't fit that mold you're not welcome. read more

What would I do without Mallory and Lacy Maven is so beautiful and has a great layout with comfy and bonus amenities (hello neck massage in the calming wash room!). Mallory had vision AND execution, keeping me happy and involved in every step. I wanted to lighten up my natural blonde hair and did in some Barbie highlights... mission accomplished! Mallory shaped me up with a razor cut and face framing while Lacy gave me a beautiful blowout with some soft, beachy curls. I will be a client for as long as I live here! went in for an eyebrow wax.... she took off the first layer of my skin but somehow managed to not get any of the eyebrow... it's looks the same as when I went in lol! the staff was extremely nice and Ive heard great things about their haircuts and coloring! but for waxing I think i'll stick with my 8$ brow wax at the nail salon. basically $20 for an epidermis removal if you're into that kinda thing read more

Pricey for the experience of the staff. It is Lynchburg, VA. And they charge more than my experienced stylist/colorist of over 30 years in high rent Cambridge MA. I also saw someone, another more experienced stlylist in Sterling VA who charged clise to the same. I have short gray hair and ask for partial ash blond highlights on top and use a demi permanant on the bottom half and it costs over $200, i believe $230, and thats before a tip! I like to tip at least 25% but at those prices its hard ti afford. I go every 4-5 weeks and only asked for haircut and toner every other time and it was still about $160. Really liked my stylist even though her experience with color and creativity was fair im fine with that because i could tell she wanted to learn and improve. I feel badly im seeking out a new more experienced and more reasonably priced salon, but i have a real problem spending that amount of money in a town where the cost of living is souch lower than the other locations ive lived in and had my hair done on a regular basis. Also, these other salons had additional.services like waxing, threading, facials, etc and they really dont. They will.wax but nomdifferent than what you'd do at home. If you are young, habe long hair, want to experimemt with bright colors and need a place to get your hair done for a formal or wedding, i say go for it! But to be a regular client. Unless you only go a few times a year or money isnt an issue and you dont mimd spending more than what it is worth, go.for it! read more

In short: the best hair experience I've ever had. The employees are career hair stylists and their mastery shows. I've had my hair done by three different professionals at Maven over the past year, and find myself consistently impressed with their level of expertise and ability to know exactly what I want as I vaguely gesture at my head spouting references to celebrities and crayon colors. The atmosphere of the salon is warm and welcoming, not overwhelming at all. They have lockers for my jewelry and bags and offer complementary water, coffee and cookies. Their ability to work within a budget is a blessing and it is never at the expense of quality. read more

Katelyn is my girl! She always clarifies what I want if I decide to change it up and I trust her fully. Even when she took time off to have her baby she left me in capable hands with a detailed account for her fill-in to follow. It is expensive but I feel it's worth it for a fantastic job well done EVERY time- no nervous thoughts while in the chair. They will also tone the heck out of your blonde so it's never brassy and can do in 2 hrs what most salons would take double the time to accomplish since I have long hair. When I moved to Lynchburg I found Mallory at Maven Salon and have never looked back. 1) Quality staff: Mallory is my go to stylist for cut, style, and color. I can show her a picture and let her run with what works best for my features and have not been disappointed. I get compliments daily on the cut and color. When Mallory was out for maternity leave I was taken care of by Deana who is also a wizard! 2) Quality service: all of my appts are booked out well in advance which is great for my schedule. I am offered a complimentary beverage (coffee, water, tea, wine). I usually also get a paraffin treatment with hand massage followed by a relaxing shampoo. I don't have to worry they take care of everything. 3) Commitment to guests: I brought a friend in once from out of town, without notice. She was going to wait for me and then we were going to dinner nearby. Katelyn had an opening and completed a cut and color for my friend who was ecstatic. Katelyn also worked her magic on my MOM when she was in town for vacation (on short notice). Without a doubt I would recommend this salon to anyone and everyone. The salon itself was very nice. As a first time guest, they offered a free warm face towel, as well as a free paraffin hand wax. The environment was very professional and welcoming. However, I was scheduled with Mallory after my original stylist was unable to come into work that day, and the end result was NOT so nice... unless an uneven, choppy, 2005 "can I speak to a manager" mom haircut was what I was seeking. Noooot so much the case. Perhaps this woman should pursue a career in architecture because it looked as though she built some stairs into my haircut.... and to think that she is considered on the "higher end". I would hate to see the job that the "less experienced" stylists do... she ignored what I said when I attempted to tell her how I wanted it styled, and she straightened it despite my wearing my hair naturally curly every single day. I have gone to maven salon twice. My first time was great. Great color. Nice cut. A little bit on the pricey side but overall pretty happy with it. So I decided that I would like to go there again for some fresh color and a desperately needed cut. The interesting thing about this place is that they price your cut based off of the stylist's experience, but I believe I paid the same price every time (for a mid level experience stylist to the owner)?? However, this second time I could not tell the difference between what color i came in with and what color i left with. She only cut about 2 inches from my hair and my hair seriously needed some more than that. So here I am, almost $300 later, with a mediocre cut and a MEGA lived-in balayage. read more

Nice place, friendly people. However, I got a simple cut - a trim on the sides and a little off on top. The cut took less than 15 minutes. I'm not sure how a simple shampoo and cut is considered the "maven" cut, which is their most expensive haircut option. "I moved here from the west coast, where I was used to the best of the best in hair salons. After much researching, Maven looked like the place for me. I nervously called to set an appointment for a cut and color, and by the time the date was set; Drew left me feeling more confident that I'd be in good hands. Two days later; I was in without a wait, and given a full tour of the salon and services by my new stylist, Deana. During my consultation, Deana understood my (picky) concerns, and made me feel comfortable right away with her knowledgeable suggestions, and her warm personality. I wasn't expecting the nice warm paraffin wax hand treatment, but I was told that's complimentary for your first visit, and every time you get color. The shampoo room is relaxing in itself, dim ambient light, quiet and a wonderful scalp massage. If I'd had the wine, instead of the coffee they offered, I probably could have fallen asleep! ;) As soon as Deana sat me down to dry my hair, someone else came over to remove my paraffin gloves, and then massaged my hands and lower arms.   Overall, I was impressed! I was Deana's #1, the whole time I was there, the cut and color were first rate, the salon is so clean, even the brush used to dry my hair was wrapped in cellophane prior to use! Beautiful and safe location, with tons of parking and restaurants within the same block.   Unfortunately, as I was leaving with my beautiful new hair; it was drizzling! Drew walked me to my car, keeping me dry under an umbrella! Too much, right?! Then I realized; they obviously don't overbook, or have people waiting forever in their waiting area, and it wasn't noisy, because although it may be a big salon, they have only four great stylists, and have no more than 3 to 4 clients in the whole place at any one time! I received excellent service while I was at Mavens. I attend Lynchburg College and unfortunately got held up there and was subsequently late for my appointment. Even though I was late, Mallory was able to do a great job despite the time constraint. She gave a great head massage while she shampooed and conditioned my hair and made sure I was completely relaxed and comfortable. She took off exactly how much I asked her to and trimmed up my bangs. I've enjoyed going to Maven for over a year now. The only reason I will not be going back is the salon is open only One Saturday per month. Logistically I am unable to visit during the week so when I offer up three available Saturdays in a month and those happen to be the ones they are not open and I am not available on the one in which they are, well, I cannot wait another four - six weeks for a color and cut. I'm not sure what I would do if I had a special event one Saturday night where I would like their services. You definitely need a backup weekend stylist elsewhere which is, unfortunately, what I've been forced to do. read more

Just had a wonderful visit at Maven Salon! I followed Mallory from another salon in town and I'm so glad I made the switch!! She is so consistently excellent with her cuts and styles. The whole experience at Maven is top notch. From the customer service while booking your appointment to the quality final product, I have not found a better salon in town. They have a "small child policy" that states that if you bring a child under the age of 13 they have to have a adult with them and you do not count as one. When I made the early appointment no one told me about it and I brought my 5 and 11 years old with me at 7 am in the morning. Then they said sorry we can't see you. after being in lynchburg for 7 years for school, i finally decided to find a new hairdresser here in town. i chose maven because i had heard good things, and they blew me away. elizabeth lobbed my hair for me, and she did a fantastic job. i came as a walk-in and was able to get an appointment that same day since they were busy. they were hospitable and kind and more than just a business. i appreciate the little things they do, such as give you a locker for your things, offer you water and coffee, and make you as comfortable as possible. i will definitely be returning when it's time for another cut! read more

Had an appointment with Katelyn to get a balayage. I showed her pictures and was very detailed in that I wanted it to be a little lighter than my natural brown hair color but wanted it to look very natural and blended and NOT blonde. I almost cried when she was blow drying my hair. It was super blonde and not natural looking at all. After she was finished she said "so how do you feel as a blonde??". Well...I didn't WANT to be blonde. Very disappointed. Will not recommend to a friend. Although had a friend whose hair was done by Samena and she did exactly what was wanted. read more
