The staff is the friendliest salon staff I've ever met - they make you feel loved and welcome and listen to everything you say. After decades of going to the same salon and paying ridiculously high prices, I decided to mix things up a bit and try Sage Tryall Salon. Now, I'm kicking myself for not going sooner! Frankly, I was super nervous trying a new place but, after being patient while I described what I was hoping to achieve, Reba (my stylist) hit it out of the park. The service started with a wonderful hair washing in literally the most comfortable washing station I ever experienced. There was no jerking or tipping my head way back! There's also footstool to make the chair comfortable on my back. After a deep scrub and scalp massage, Reba worked her hair-cutting magic and then gave me a wonderful blow-out. I thought long before I decided to actually write this review. Multiple people that I have shown my hair to have requested that I do it. I came to Sage Tryall to get a blonde balayage. I started off telling the women doing my hair the things I hated about my hair. I previously had my hair lightened at another salon before attempting to go to Sage for a blonde balayage. With that, it should have been easier to attempt because my hair was light. After the coloring and blow drying there was no "Omg! I love it!" Instead, I was told, "I'll be right back." After sitting there for 10 minutes I looked around and noticed several employees looking at my hair and talking about it. My hair had come out a brassy blotchy mess. I was then approached by another hair stylist who explained that we could either leave it the way it was or throw a gloss on top of it. Of course, I did not want my hair to be brassy and have bleach blots in it, so I said let's put a gloss on it. It was a little better but not anything like the blonde balayage I had requested. I left and was depressed about spending over 300 dollars for hair that was not great. I received a phone call after I left a review the next day offering to fix my hair complementary. I also went to my husband's hairdresser and she informed me of what went wrong. She said they took the bleach out too fast and that it was clear they had started with the back and worked their way to the top because the underneath was more light than the top. I took off work to get my hair fixed and returned to this salon. While getting my hair done for the second time I asked if I was charged for the gloss thrown on my hair the previous time and was told yes. The girl who redid my hair was super sweet and I'm sure she does a fine job with hair. None of this is her fault. However, I have brown hair now. All over brown that received damage in the process of trying to be blonde. I'm truly upset that I was not told by the original hair stylist that she did not think she could achieve blonde balayage. I'm upset that I was charged for gloss to "fix" my hair. I'm upset that I took time off work to try and have my hair fixed to only end up with brown. The women at my work and everyone I know have said you need to leave a review, so people know not to go there for blonde. And everyone is appalled that I paid 300 dollars for this hair. I've asked so many people about my hair and they just think I was taken advantage of. read more

This was my second time going to Sage to get my hair cut and styled by Janell and It did not disappoint! I should have left a review for my first time in which they do the paraffin hand dip & hand and arm massage for first time guests - an experience that was truly unbelievable. However, this was my second visit so I did not receive the hand and arm massage but I did receive the scalp, head, neck, face, and shoulder / upper back massage after getting my hair shampooed. It was heavenly !! Janell did a fantastic job. In addition, after she showed me my layers, I was not completely pleased so she kept working and got me the layers I wanted! I am so happy with my hair and would recommend this place and Janell to anyone! I also value that they do a 3 tier paying system in which you pay more money for years of experience of the salonists. I only get my hair cut twice a year (I know that's not "good" for your hair, but I like mine to stay long and it grows slow) and I always get it done at Sage Tryall. Mallory is my stylist and she always does a wonderful job and does exactly what I ask. My favorite thing about Sage Tryall is the way they take you into a dark room with black walls and ceiling that is very dimly lit and so relaxing to wash your hair. They give a full scalp massage and cover your face with a warm towel. It is all so relaxing and a great experience. All the stylists are very nice and its a great hair-cutting experience. read more

Sage Tryall is fantastic! Right away I noticed that the receptionists are professional and super friendly. My appointment started right on time. The shampoo is always my favorite part. It feels amazing! I even had my neck and shoulders massaged a bit. They cover your face with a warm towel that smells nice. It's so relaxing. My haircut was great, too. I don't think my hair has ever been so pretty. They use great, high quality products. They even offer to curl it, or make it really sleek and straight. The salon is a well-oiled machine from the minute you walk in the door until the minute you leave. Every customer is special to them. Every person in the salon seems invested in your experience and your outcome. I have never felt more pampered except in expensive California spas. If I had even a tiny complaint, it would be that the receptionist is extremely enthusiastic and tends to talk too quickly - I had to ask her to repeat herself more than once. But really, that's a nit. The coffee was outstanding. That hand massage is amazing! The shampoo is the best I ever had. I will never get my hair done anywhere else. When my previous hairdresser had a baby and quit to be a stay at home mom, I was desperate to find a new stylist/salon. I fell in love with this place after my first visit and continued to drive 2 hours back to Lynchburg after I moved over 2 years ago. I recently called to make an appointment and was told that my stylist was promoted. Again. When I started coming here, I was paying $40 for wash/cut/style. Then I was surprised a year later when I went to pay and was told I owed $50. Ok... I really liked this place and my stylist, so I decided I could pamper myself from time to time. Now her rate is $60. I am super happy for her promotion, but disappointed that I will have to find a more reasonably priced salon. I have long pin straight, thin hair. I don't get any fancy or complicated cuts or colors. While this place treats you like a queen, it's not worth it to me to pay $60 (plus 20% tip) for a simple haircut!
