I was so thrilled we were able to do a helicopter ride. My husband I last minute decided the night before our ride we should do a helicopter ride. It was our anniversary so we thought why not. I called around the day of and was able to snag a ride with Maverick Helicopter in the afternoon. They gave us clear direction of how to check in. We had a 2pm flight and we arrived a little bit before 1:15 to check in. We checked in and did our weigh in. We decided to bring my one year old daughter for the flight. We had headphones for her but they did have baby/toddler headphones if you don't have one. The pilot and crew was so kind! They gave us a concise but brief orientation of the flight and safety procedures. My daughter fell asleep the whole ride (for any parents thinking of bringing their littles). The pilot did an excellent job highlighting and just chatting with us during the ride. He gave us great facts about the areas. The views are indescribable and truly were breathtaking. Easily my highlight on our trip to Kauai! You simply cannot miss out on an experience like this. This was my first time getting on a helicopter and boy was I thrilled like a 5-year old kid as we were about to take off. I'm glad that this was the island I decided to do an aerial tour of because so many parts are inaccessible. I'm talking about untouched beauty here, folks - all natural. Luck was on our side as we picked the most perfect day possible weather-wise. No rain, no winds, just a clear blue sky and the funniest pilot who gave us all the 411 as he flew us so smoothly. We even made it to the "Top of the World" which is said to be always hard to reach due to the island's weather. Spots like the Jurassic Falls, Waipo'o Falls, Waimea Canyon, Heart of the Island, Kauai Coffee Plantation, Hanalei Bay, and of course, my favorite - the stunning Napali Coast were the sights we got to marvel at. It's pretty much all of Kauai in 50 minutes. There's no beating that. Now, sadly, I wouldn't recommend this to those with bad motion sickness since there's no controlling the wind no matter how good your pilot is. You'll be moving your head a lot, too as you try to take in every scenery. I got a little nauseous which our pilot caught instantly so be sure to communicate because it doesn't need to get worse. If anything, puke bags are plentiful so hurl away if you need to. And no, that didn't happen to me. This was indeed one for the books and aside from the photos I took, I have a neat souvenir t-shirt, a gift from Maverick Helicopters to remind me of this exhilarating adventure. Once in a lifetime experience! My husband and I went for a tour in November for our honeymoon and it was absolutely amazing! We had gone back and forth for a while figuring out if it was something we really wanted to spend our money on (it's not cheap). After several recommendations from family/friends and looking into a few options we decided to go with Maverick. Mainly we went with a recommendation from the concierge at our hotel, who raved about the experience she's had with them - she's done several tours with different companies and we went with her advice. First of all, I was very nervous to fly in a helicopter since I have never done anything like this and I'm mildly afraid of heights but the pilot was very calm and knowledgeable and gave us a thorough safety demo before even getting in the helicopter. Also, I have fairly severe motion sickness so we went with this company because of their nicer/roomier helicopter options which we were told helps with the bumpiness of the ride. Honestly, I still got a little queezy but the views and experience were well worth it! (maybe take some Dramamine if you get motion sickness) Regardless of how my stomach felt, the views were so incredible! The sheer beauty of the island, the incredible views (we were surrounded by waterfalls at one point), the aloha spirit which I definitely felt and the epic music our pilot played likely contributed to me bursting into tears at one point! Yes, it was that magical! I'm so happy we were able to go on this tour. If your budget allows and you're debating whether to do a tour - the answer is yes! and Maverick is a great tour company to fly with! read more

My husband and I had an awesome time on the 30 minute helicopter tour with Maverick! Our pilot, Chase, was knowledgeable about the area and a lot of fun to be with during the flight. We were a pretty quiet crew, mostly because it's hard to find words when you encounter such beauty. I'd recommend taking a non-drowsy medicine for motion sickness, even if you aren't the motion sickness type. You may encounter some dips and shakes that you're not used to experiencing :) The tour will also take you close to the highest point in Kauai, which apparently other helicopter tours won't go. The scenery was so lush and green and you will lose count of all the waterfalls! We were lucky to go the few days after a huge storm, which I'm sure helped too. This was by far the best use of our money for anything we could've done on the island. Seriously, just do it. read more

This was my third tour with Maverick and once again they did not disappoint. Our pilot, Aaron Hamm, was a great pilot and had endless amounts of dad jokes. The views were incredible and the island knowledge that Aaron possesses is great for tourists. I first started using Maverick due to their great safety record. You hear lots of bad things about helicopter tour companies and if you do your research you will find that not all are the same. After all the research I did, they are the only company I will fly with. Taking helicopter tours is not cheap. Cost aside, it will be one of the most amazing things you'll ever do in life. Looking back to my first tour in Maui, over a decade ago, cost is never part of my memories. The amazing sites and views will always bring a smile to my face and I'm so thankful I chose to take the tour. read more

If you can cough up the big bucks, a tour of Kauai from above is highly recommended. If it wasn't expensive (regardless of the company), I find it hard to imagine that it wouldn't be a 5-star experience for everyone. I'm guessing you're not going to do this often (likely, not more than once), and it'll be something you remember for a long time. The Napali coastline is one of the most beautiful pieces of nature I've ever seen. We weren't willing to pass 5-6 hours on a choppy boat to see it, and the lookout at the end of our hike of the Awa'awapuhi trail didn't scratch the itch, it just made us hungry for more. If you're nervous, don't be. Even for a scaredy cat like me, it's a very calm flight and had none of the choppiness I hated in the 3-passenger plane ride I did once and will never again. We didn't circle the entire island, and I think this ended up being a good thing: it takes time to get over to the East side and back and you'll see so many countless waterfalls along the way that I promise you won't miss one more. Our flight left out of Hanapepe at a small airstrip that shares space with skydivers. After watching the obligatory safety video and a chance to use the restroom (note: it's only porta potties!), we were off. Our pilot was very friendly and I enjoyed his narration throughout the tour, which really brought what we were seeing to life. He was knowledgeable about the island and able to answer everyone's questions. He had a soundtrack playing along (queue the Jurassic Park theme), but his constant fiddling with this iPhone to play the next track was the only part of the tour I didn't enjoy. If you shouldn't drive and use your phone, I imagine you shouldn't fly and do it either - can't the tracks be stitched and timed? I think most would agree that the Napali coast is the highlight of the tour. While you probably won't get to choose where to sit because of weight balancing, the right side of the heli (especially front, but also back) is optimal for viewing. Our heli had two passengers in the front and four in the back. Our pilot did a good job of looping around on each side of attractions like waterfalls, but for some reason it didn't seem like this happened as much on the coast so I feel like the right side passengers got to see more of the best views. I diligently wore dark colors as to not reflect off the glass, although the irony was that our pilot in front of me of course had a white shirt on. Also, it wasn't cold at all; if anything, it was warm, so my long pants were unnecessary. If you're not there to just live in the moment and are really all about pics, then you may need to either purchase their video or choose a no doors helicopter to really avoid the glare. read more

I had no plans of taking a helicopter tour of Kauai. I don't like to fly, and helicopters kinda scare me. So, when I won a buy one trip, get one free at our resort, I was nervous. I kinda wished I had won the luau gig, lol, My husband was super excited though, and I almost sent my father in my place. (He had already taken the tour years ago.) But, I got over my fears and decided to go. First off, be honest about your weight. (I was,) It's for safety reasons and they will weigh you discreetly when you check in. Second, DO NOT CANCEL FOR RAIN. We were driving in and it was pouring, but we kept on. We saw so many beautiful waterfalls. Even our pilot was amazed with the beauty. We left out of Port Allen. Our pilot, Adam, was amazing. So comforting and reassuring. I mentioning I get seasick (though I took medication before the trip) and Adam checked on me multiple time during the trip. (I had no issues.) This was, BY FAR, the best thing we did in Hawaii. We also spent a week on Maui. We also kayaked in Kauai, which was a close second! We took a catamaran to the Napali Coast, which was expensive and I (along with three others) got seasick even though we all took medication prior. I would recommend a helicopter tour with Maverick 100 times over before going on a boat tour of the Napali Coast. My husband, who does not get seasick, agreed. I can't recommend this company enough. The morning we took off, the staff commented on how they were surprised the skydivers were going out considering the weather. And even our pilot mentioned that we might be able to see everything as planned because of the weather. Decided to spontaneously book a ride during my family's last day on the island and wow it did NOT disappoint! At first I was unsure how my family would respond to the idea being 4000 ft in the air, but Adam (the pilot) did such an amazing job making our ride smooth that it was the last of their worries. The views were absolutely breathtaking!! So much untouched land can only be seen from above, so booking a helicopter ride was and is the best way to see the beauty of Kaua'i. Registration was a piece of cake. Ashley (front desk) was such a sweetheart with helping us get checked in. Adam was a total rockstar. We recently flew with Adam Chase and had an incredible experience. They have a very top of the line chopper. Very roomy and great views and I sat in the back. The temperature was warm starting off but it cooled down with A/C. Their check in process was fantastic, and simple. Very professional company and made our group feel very safe. The weather was a bit cloudy over the center of the island but the views over Waimea and na'pali coadt were breathtaking. We also hit the Hanalei bay and the Crater(wettest place on earth). Worth every penny we paid but it isn't the cheapest on the island. read more

Wow! What a ride! Thanks Chase for the tour. We got to see everything. Whales, dolphins, turtles, oh ya and the volcano and valleys. (So many Hawaiian names I couldn't remember). The ride was smooth as we flew so close to the valley walls we could almost touch them.
