Well, what can I say about this place? I've never been to a line dancing hall. I was very intrigued by going. I dragged my friend to take me and I had a great time. It's a very nice place. The ambience is very friendly very welcoming. They knew I was from New York that I was not from Texas, but they had music inside outside. They had games outside. went for the first time, calling this a dance hall and smh... could have been better. They don't have the typical dance hall ettiquete, and allow the dance floor to be used as a hangout spot for all the non dancers. where are the security and bouncers? where's the dance floor rules for the new dancers? All the tv screens could be put to better use. Will try again, but be aware that many of the people who think they can dance are obviously just tiktok imitators - they can't lead. If you ask to dance with someone, be prepared to be shocked at how the 99% of the people out on the floor who may look flashy (trashy imo) really have no idea how to lead and zero foot work! sad. There's better hony tonks and dance halls to go to. Find the place with the cowboys and ranch ladies, this place was just full of base ball wearing dudes, escorting flip flop dates. The "dancers" on the floor were more MMA style and 1 step bull dozer style than any thing respectable and real. Honestly, a lot of people there were trying to dance, but just getting attacked and slammed by the "dancers" bull dozing or just plain standing and stopping on the dance floor, this place needs managment! read more

First time visit and I'm so sad because we really wanted to be regulars. We had a terrible encounter with a bartender on the outside patio. Her tact and service were awful. I'm not sure what or why she targeted our group but we have never been treated the way she treated us at any establishment. We left because of her. She basically said our bill was high and we should call it a night, not sure if she was concerned about "over serving" us? But she knew nothing about our group, who had what, (we opened our tab at the inside bar), if we had a DD, if we ubered, etc. I'm a grown, 45 year old woman, and our group was calm. We are service industry people, I get it.. but we were all so stunned because we have never been told this anywhere. Our bill was a little over $100?! Either way, there are ways to handle things.. and she just didn't do it. She was rude and belittling and it was just embarrassing. read more

I'm not a two-stepper, nor am I even a line dancer. Just love to dance - my background is mostly hip hop, funk, some salsa. Came here with a group of friends on a Saturday and to be honest, I didn't know what to expect. I felt pretty lost and awkward at first, but I had my friend Adrian who loves all kinds of dance basically grab me and help me understand the rhythm and the steps. I still had no clue what I was doing, but there are so many ways to two-step that even though I felt like I looked like a fool, I don't think it was terrible! It was just a great time with people who love to dance. I enjoyed watching more than being out there. At some point in the night, they took a break from the regular music and played some hip hop music so a group of us jumped on the dance floor. Whether you're a pro two-stepper or a professional people watcher, Mavericks offers a little something for everyone. Mavericks is split into two sections: the inside (country music) and the outside (top hits). If you have ever watched a movie involving the honky tonk, this is what Mavericks is. Inside, you'll find a large dance floor where people are showing off their country moves (partner in hand or air). Be careful where you step, as the inside is dimly lit, haphazardly loud, and crowded! The nearest bar will fortunately be located on each side of the dance floor, but expect a challenge to find somewhere to sit. If you need a breather, take a walk outside or heck, ride the bull if you're just wanting something to do! Besides the dancing, watching people brave the bull was my next favorite item to people watch for. FYI: Ladies ride for free. The outdoor space at Mavericks is spacious and great to have actual conversations. I would check online prior to coming, as there are various events scheduled (ie: college night, Tejano night, Music series, etc). read more

I'm a little late in posting this review as we came to Mavericks a while ago, and are overdue to come back again. At the same time, when we came here we had a blast! The interior of Mavericks is huge, with a really nice, large dance floor. They were playing solid music all night long, and had a nice outdoor area as well. Came here with brother & longtime friend couple weeks ago. Enjoyed listening to country music and watching couples dance. Friend suggested we go upstairs so we walked up to second floor, looked down at dance floor, went out onto patio, sat on swing seats, swinging & hanging out. After about 20 minutes, employee came up, told us we have to go downstairs because second floor closed. Back downstairs, my brother bought round of margaritas for us, we sat down to watch dancers and sip our drink. My brother was happy we went here. Grateful for the experience and memories. read more

I went to Mavericks Dance Hall tonight (Wednesday) and I was terribly disappointed. I knew they had line dancing lessons tonight, but I wasn't interested in that, so I arrived after the lessons were over. I didn't realize that was all the music and dancing tonight. I drank one beer and looked around and decided that there was nothing to interest me there and left. The style of country line dancing that exists today is thought to have originated in Texas in the 1970s. It is not traditional Texas dance hall fare, except for the Cotton Eye Joe and Schottische, and devoting whole nights to it is a terrible way to run a dancehall. I can't recommend Mavericks Dance Hall, unless you just moved to Texas and don't know any better. I doubt that I will ever come back. read more

Being from Charleston & living in Kansas City I've never been privy to what makes a true Texan. Granted I've heard stories allowing me to paint a mental image & narrative which, for better or worse, became the de facto, 10-gallon hat, boot wearing, BBQ bragging, Cow(person) in my mind. Now, my ankle was still swollen from rolling it at the Statemens 10k but I had a date I'd been wanting to meet for over a month. She said, I'll be going to Mavericks, so lets meet up there. I said sure & the date was set. Next, I googled Mavericks. The response returned was a dance hall! Finally, I get to see native Texans in their proper habitat - doing the two step &/or whatever dance moves they do. Driving up to Mavericks, the parking lot is huge w/ a large portion marked off. Interesting... but I'm here for a date & education while observing the illusive Texas dance moves. The place is really nice on the outside w/ a food truck I'm told is the "some of the best taco's around". Alas it was 7pm & I wasn't in the mood for food, so maybe... next time. The place is absolutely massive, two stories & a patio w/ TVs. I get to the door, was promptly carded & got a stamp of a rubber ducky. After pushing the huge mahogany doors open, I had to pay a cover. My eyes were immediately drawn to the dead center which had a huge dance floor that had 10 couples learning to do one of many Texas's dances w/ 2 very patient & knowledgeable teachers. Around the parameter adorned bars that snuggled up to the dance area w/ plenty of other tables further from the pit of dance. One huge bar is in the front, two smaller ones in the back with huge projection screens showing country videos. There is an area upstairs as well but I'm not sure if that opens later or what, but alas it's there. The drinks are relatively cheap while the selection is a tab bit more limited than what I anticipated. The good thing here is the bartenders don't play favorites! So, I got my beverage of choice & sat back down. Along comes a very much older lady in some weird steampunk, lingerie, top hat getup selling roses. She was a very sweet woman so I decided to buy one. I only had hundreds so I trusted her to break it for me as she left me w/ her rose heap. She was true to her word & returned as I waited.... for my date. As soon as she got there, her eyes looked at the rose "you didn't seriously buy that did you?" This was the beginning of my education ladies & gentlemen as there are apparent rules, hierarchy, & politics involved. Anyways I never got an answer other than my date doesn't like flowers, the beginning of story number two running along w/ my education. About 9pm the place starts filling quickly. All ethnicities, ages, & backgrounds were present & I felt safe w/ no delinquents. I quickly realized my priority w/ my date as she surveyed the ever-filling dance floor. Texas dancing while romantic can be devoid of anything other than just moving around w/ someone else. This is why everyone dances w/ anyone until politics comes in to play. She informed me she's been trying to dance w/ lets just call him "cowboy dancing demi-god" whom only danced w/ women that knew exactly what they were doing. You see some are dancing snobs & if you can't two-step with authority, you're not considered. WOW. I didn't want to slow her down so, by all means go dance! The night progressed & I realized my idea of a first date didn't jive w/ why she was there. As she was off talking w/ others as she's a regular, I decided to open up my conversations to other more interested parties. The music & videos were all country early but the variety opened up later along with a younger clientele filling the premises. In pulling this all together Mavericks is exactly what I anticipated in regards to a stereotypical Texan dance club but also a night of education how you better know your stuff if you want to dance w/ certain people. While in retrospect my date w/ an older woman turned out to be horrible it afforded me the opportunity to grow in my community & be acclimated to a downhome dancing environment. Mavericks is a safe place to dance even a place to LEARN to dance, w/ great people, good beverage prices all in a clean and fun environment. I'll be sure to return, w/ a better partner to better enjoy all that Mavericks has to offer. As a final note, if you're a bit older like me, you won't find people breaking out cardboard and doing the worm but favorite moves from Texas lore! Try it out! read more

We went out for a girls night for my birthday and we had a really fun time at Mavericks. We visited on a Saturday night and there was a lot of newer country music played. There was a small entry fee. We were hoping for little moments of fun hip hop music like other dance halls and they played it on the patio area the entire night and inside finally around midnight. The wait was never long at their bars and the bartender I kept going to was very nice. She even made me one of her cocktail creations that was really good. Get there early if you want a table. Overall, we had a fun time. read more

Normally love this place, but the staff overall was pretty unwelcoming, specifically the blonde and brunette staff by the food truck exit that were pretty rude/condescending to my fiancé about exiting. There's a difference in explaining and being confrontational, hopefully they'll give the staff some lessons on that. read more

To start off witht the biggest issue of all. DJ Shaun needs to find a different career path because playing music at a dancehall is definitely a horrible fit. I've never heard a worse mix of pop crap country in my life and should be ashamed to call this a dancehall with the garbage he plays. other than that overall the place has a nice setup and atmosphere. just direly in need of a diff person selecting music. read more

Great dance hall - lots of room and different places to hang out! Quick service at the bar and free entrance for military.

It's a "no" for me. The ambiance is great, nice big country dance hall inside and hip hop on the large back patio. Swing chairs/benches and outdoor games make it fun. The problem I had was with the bartender on the back patio. I ordered 2 mixed drinks which came to $24. I don't mind the cost as long as there's actual alcohol in it. The kid bartender gave a 2 second pour and when I asked her about it, she said management is cracking down on how much alcohol they poor, and that I could order a double. No honey, I'm not supporting your managements attempt to rip off customers. This place has potential but noone wants to spend $12 on a teaspoon of liquor. read more

I've been to this dance hall multiple times. Each time I've been kicked out due to unknown reasons. The people they have working there are also kids. They won't explain why they kicked us out. They are racists because I am a woman of color and gay. Don't ever come here because you won't get in. I won't be returning. Fix the staffing. I am a district manager for a clothing franchise.
