Work quality is poor, customer service is sub par. Better bang for your buck someplace else

If I could leave a negative star rating I would but If you live in auburn New York and hire out work on you car or truck please steer clear of Mavis discount tire. Went in for 4 new tires mounted balanced and an alignment. Sunday may 17th I got 4 new tires but they couldn't align the truck ram1500 . So they sent me off with brand new tires and no alignment wearing the new $1200 set of tires. But None of that is bad compared to the scratches I noticed between the driver and driver rear door. After leaving Mavis. I went back Monday may 18th to let them know they scratched my truck pretty extensively and the not so friendly manager that wasn't even the one who was present when the truck was being worked on may 17th Sunday said "that's not from us look at all the other scratches around the truck" even though I had multiple people who had seen the truck previously to it going to Mavis confirm that they were not there. The manger told me that he's "not trying to be a jerk but I'm just speaking in reality" well in reality your advanced auto level "mechanics" scratched my truck past the clear coat... I have time stamped pictures from right after leaving Mavis that I will share as well and I told him that and he said that doesn't mean anything. THIS IS NOT HOW YOU DO BUISNESS! read more

Shopping for new tires on my vehicle. Found the best price at Mavis. My 4 tires had white FIRESTONE LETTERS When the tires were on and ready to go, the tires were so dirty you could hardly see the white letters. The Mgr. told me they have never cleaned the tires upon completion. Nothing says "I really don't give a shit" when spending a $1000 bucks. read more

Took tires in to have balanced, they used stick on weights didn't clean the inside of wheels weights fell off when I got home. Had to take them back to get rebalanced, they balanced them then didn't put one of the center caps in the wheel. Had to make 2 extra trips there didn't offer any discount or refund read more

I discovered at my next oil change that mavis damaged the splash guard on the bottom of my civic. The poorly trained technician tore it off rather than taking it off the proper way. I might as well talk to the wall because they will deny they did it. read more

Filed a complaint with BBB. Next, a lawyer will be involved. The regional Mgr, who was never involved, now says, "When the car was brought in, there was no sign of an Oil leak & the customer drove 1300 miles in 3 weeks." Lies & Impossible. The first thing the technician said to my wife when the car was on the lift was "There's No Oil Plug" plus my wife drives two miles per day to work. She went to Buffalo twice within three weeks, so total of 560 miles, so all in all, I'd estimate 600 miles was driven. Also, read all the reviews. This shop is getting horrible. It used to be good when Mark was the manager. Now that the regional Mgr Justin is involved, it's going downhill. Time to start using a local shop that knows what they're doing. read more

Took my car in for one new tire. Had a flat and now needed the " doughnut" tire taken off and a new tire put on. Service was very quick but... they put the "donut" tire in the back of my car , NOT IN THE SPOT where it belongs. If you claim to be a tire store then you should know something about tires. Also was told that I would need to go to the car manufacturer to get the TPM light turned off!! Really guys!! AGAIN, YOU ARE A TIRE STORE, you should know the basics about TIRES. Took our vehicle to Mavis for a routine oil change. They overtightened the drain plug in the oil pan. Auburn Mavis, said they would take care of the issue. (over 3 months ago) We left the vehicle for the repair (Heli-Coil and new drain plug) Tech could not get the plug out. We left the vehicle a second time, the 2nd technician was unsuccessful. Then Mavis asked us to take vehicle to another local garage; they took a look at the problem and declined to fix it (suggested new oil pan) Mavis called a 3rd technician from Syracuse. Tech said we needed to take to the Syracuse store for him to repair it. At this point we had no faith in Mavis's ability to complete the repair. Mavis then asked us to collect quotes from different garages to replace the oil pan and they would pay for the repair. We then collected estimates from 2 experienced garages and hand delivered them to Mavis. We scheduled the repair with the closest local garage per Mavis's suggestion. They did a great job replacing the oil pan. (RIGHT THE FIRST TIME) After the local shop completed the repair, Mavis refused to pay for the completed service. Auburn store Mark, says the issue is "with corporate" (zero accountability) In summary Mavis calls on a small shop to bail them out and they leave the shop holding the bag! The manager advised that I put my bald back tires on the front of my front wheel drive car and put the new ones on the back. I recommend some of our local mom and pop shops rather than a one way ticket to death read more

I took my car in for a slow leak in my tire. I was told that it would take a couple of hours to get to it. I was fine with it. We had a a few errands and headed home about an hour later. I have been using Mavis for company vehicles for quite a while now. Made an appt for Nov 7th to get an oil change and my tire that was leaking air. Upon arrival office staff ignored me and went to the back. When he returned I was told I didn't have an appt. and there would be a wait. I informed him that was an error on their part - not mine and I had calls to be at. They took my van in and I was charged for the oil change and a valve stem replacement on my tire. This morning when I went to leave for work that same tire was flat!!! Only registered 8 PSI. Had to find an auto store near where my call was to take me in today. After multiple phone calls, one company told me to come when I could and they would fit me in. They took my van in immediately when I arrived - understanding I needed it to work. They informed me the tire valve has NOT been replaced and it was leaking. Did the replacement and charged me less that quoted. I was in and out in no time and able to continue my work. Mavis sent me a survey which I naturally completed scathingly. Will wait abd see if they are willing to refund me money. At this point I can't be sure whether they did the oil change. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. They seemed frustrated I was even there. Was there for a flat tire. I literally had nowhere else to take the vehicle. They "fixed" it by patching it. Next day, flat again. Took it somewhere else and they informed me there was no patches or anything done to fix the problem. So all Mavis did was put air in it and send me on my way. I needed an inspection. The Auburn Mavis store failed my car for bad tires and an emission code they were googling to figure out. I told them I would take my car to the dealer for a re-inspection and tires. I got to the dealer, he did the inspection, and came out and told me I didn't need new tires. He explained the treads were at 7/32 and 8/32 and he didn't understand why they failed me. I told him I would take it up with Mavis, but wouldn't my inspection be $10 for a re-inspection instead of $21? He said the NYS system wasn't showing the failed inspection and because the failure wasn't listed on the report, the fee hadn't changed. I paid the $21 again and went back to Mavis in Auburn. The manager told me it was each inspectors judgement about tires. He told me Audi's system must be broken that it didn't see the NYS failed inspection. When I asked for my $21 back he told me to go see my dealer, they had the problem. You can decide who entered the inspection into the system, and who might have been trying to sell me tires. I feel lucky my dealer was honest with me. I don't want someone else's visit to the Auburn Mavis store to cost them more than it should. read more

My car got a flat on the Thruway and Mavis was the only place open on a Sunday. I was able to limp in with my spare and they took me right in. Cody was especially friendly and helpful. They couldn't repair my tire, but replaced it with an equivalent. The entire visit took less than an hour! Great customer service, quick work, and friendly people. Affordable too! I called and made an appointment for this place for an oil change before my lunch break started. I was assured that there was plenty of time to get the job done. I went in, handed in my keys and started the waiting game. After about 45 mins of patiently waiting, I walked up to the guy standing behind the desk and asked him how much longer it would be since I could only stay for another 30 mins or so and my car was still parked in the parking lot. At this point, without apologizing, the guy suggested giving me my keys back. I asked if I could get a ride to work so that I could leave my car behind but he put my keys in front of me and pretty much was like "Off you go". "But I made an appointment?". To which he responded, "I am not the one that answered the phone. It is a call center that make appointments." How am I suppose to know this information? And to make it worse, he was excessively rude and unapologetic. FYI: I never ever leave reviews for anything but I've never been disrespected in this manner. Went to get front brakes because of the special they had in the paper. Was told it would be about an hour. An hour in and they hadn't even started the job, just went over every inch of my car and told me they recommended over two thousand dollars in repairs. I'm surprised they didn't recommend changing my air freshener too. Declined all repairs but opted to still have my brakes done as originally stated and that even ended up being over $300. The coupon is just there to bait the hook. I wonder how many people take the bait. Sad, but almost all chain franchises act like this. read more

Got an alignment on my 2005 GMC Canyon, with all new suspension components in 2016. The alignment was done in mid April 2017. I Just did an oil change on my and noticed the front inside wheels are wearing excessively. This is a bad alignment where they did not adjust the camber properly, and is causing the inside tread on the tires to wear excessively. i had to call 2 times because the phone just kept ringing the 1st time, then the phone kept ringing for about a minute before they picked up. I explain the problems with the alignment and the excessive inside tire wear and they said bring it in anytime and they would have a look. So I stopped in on 08/12/2017 at 2 PM, and 3 people were behind the desk, including the manager all cracking jokes and having a good ole time. The manager got serious and remarked to a bearded fellow stating, "if he did not get it done, I will have your head on a platter!" At this point they seemed like utter flippant idiots, from the Manger on down. So I told them about the alignment problem that is causing premature tire wear to the inside and asked if they could take a quick peak out side at the wheels. Manager pulls out his cell phone and starts texting away, and the bearded guy goes it will take about an hour before we can look at it. All 3 men are just standing there either playing on their phones or making jokes, and could not spare 2 minutes to walk out the door and look at the tire wear!!! The manager looks up from his cell phone all so serious and goes, That will take a while as the bolts will all be rusted". I responded that the front end has all new suspension put on in 2016, so he shouldn't have a problem. The guy looks up from playing on his phone and gives a 'whatever shrug" and goes back to playing on his cell phone! I turned and walked away, stopped and said, "You guys aren't ever touching my truck again, with such flippant disrespectful attitudes for an alignment problem they created!" I called and left a message with their corporate office complaining about the bad alignment, tire damage, and flippant disrespectful attitudes from the manager on down. DO NOT GO THERE!!! read more

So I went there on Saturday morning, store opens at 8 got in line at 8:15, for a oil change and NYS inspection. Was asked if I would be waiting I said yes. After the 1st hour, and my Jeep hadn't been taken in, I went for a walk and had breakfast at Hunters, went to Wegmans and stopped and got doughnuts for the Mavis guys (hindsight that was a mistake). Returned to see that 2 1/2 hours later my Jeep still hadn't moved!!! 3 1/2 hours for a oil change and inspection. The inspection revealed I needed tires, giving the guys the benefit of the doubt I got a quote for tires and it was a good price. I was told to come in on Thursday evening and they would "knock them out" in no time and Thursday's are they're late night so it would be quick. So I show up tonight, Thursday at 6:15ish to find the door locked and a sign on the door saying they are not taking any more customers!!! Myself and another customer stand outside the door until it is opened to let a customer out. I question the assistant manager and he said the manager had locked the door at 10:30am!!!!! Needless to say Mavis in Auburn lost my business about $800.00 in tires and I will never go there again!! They do very good work here, but there are a lot of complaints from staff about administration. I guess if you call to make an appointment you're not even talking to someone who works in the store? Who does that? That's a terrible plan, and as business people, they should know that. Why would you create that chaos for your staff? Made an appointment for this morning to have tires swapped. When I arrived the store manager informed me that it would be a few hours wait to get the work done. He said the call was was sent to the call center and that he never would have made the appointment. For one how are you supposed to know that the person answering the phone has no authority to make appointments. Second don't be rude to your customers because you screwed up. First to start this out, if you want a place that is gonna up sell you pointless repairs, that most likely don't need to be done, go here. If they tell you, you need any type of high amount of work done, ALWAYS get a second opinion. Now, to start out my 2 very horrible experiences with this Mavis. The first time, my wife and I took our car here with a slight noise coming from the front of our car when we took turns and a tire sensor was bad. They diagnosed everything and came back with an $2000+ repair. The next day, the tire sensor light came back on after have 2 replaced, and the noise was a powering steering pump, so they claimed, and it went from only making the noise when we turned to happening all the time. Took the car back there to have it looked it and fixed correctly, was greeted by a VERY rude manager by the name of Rob, was very unhelpful and had to result in getting the D.M ED involved. Met with the DM and Rob, two days later, which I was told by ED, "you know this is only impala, so you should stop dumping money into it." After that they went threw the car to see if they could figure out how to stop the noise, I requested the power steering pump to be replaced, which I was met with every hurdle imaginable for over 2 hours, which ended up turning into, them returning my money for the pump and saying they have no idea how to fix it. Now, recently, I was coming back from Syracuse when my belt tension snapped off and left me with no steering. Go threw all my car repairs and sure enough when I had the 2000 dollar worth of repairs done in January of this year, they replaced that also. So, I call on Tuesday 11/20/18, takes me 5 times to finally get threw to some type of manager, which then I was greeted on the phone by a very rude Asst. Manager named Cody, I tell him what happened, he tells me they'll replace the piece but won't tow it, I try to reason with him to get a tow as I have no way in doing so, and shouldnt have to pay for something I didn't break. As I'm trying to discuss this with him, hes getting noticeably irritated and as the conversation starts to take a turn, I ask for the DMs number, which I was met with a hang up. So, I get my mother out in the cold snowy weather to take to me to Mavis to see how we can get this fixed, first I'm met in the parking lot by a blue hatchback in bay 1 with the music blaring and the manager "Rob" laughing as customers sit in the waiting room looking around trying to figure out whats going on. Then, once I enter the business, I'm greeted by a VERY rude Asst. Manager named Cody, who informs me, he hung up, because I was being "cocky'. As I try to explain my situation to him, he is over talking me and has no interested in trying to please me as his shop messed up. We come to agreement and I get my Father in Law to come all the to Auburn to tow me. Once we arrive at Mavis, the parking lot is absolutly full, with no where to park. So I go in and ask the Manager Rob and Asst. Manager Cody where to park, where I'm told by both to just pull it forward and make sure it isn't on the sidewalk and leave it and we will move it when a car leaves. So we do just that. After we move it, I go to walk the keys back into Cody, where I'm greeted by the door, by a guy named Dustin sitting in a black jeep. He states I can't park the car there and if I can't move it, then find another place to do your work. I then try to explain to him what I was just told, and he smirks and says "well actually I'm a manager and I said you can't park there, so move now or take your car somewhere else", where I try to explain again what is going on with my car. Where he rips his truck over to the corner of the parking lot and rushes in the business with no name tag or any identification hes an employee alone a manager. So, in the mean time a car leaves and my father in law moves my vehicle to the parking spot that is now open. I take my key back into them and just as I'm about to leave, Dustin is inside telling all the guys I'm an asshole. So we leave to help settle the situation down. Not, one time was one of the Managers helpful or in the least bit customer friendly. So the next day my car is suppose to be getting repaired so I can have it back before the holiday. First I'm called at 9:30 a.m to tell me that they lost my key and car fob and needed me to bring a spare down and that they will replace the key, but would have to wait on the fob till they could find one to program to my car. I take the key down, and then I get a call back around 1 p.m to come down so they can show me the issue. I get down there and there "specialist" some guy off the street, tells me he knows its some rod that holds my started and alternator that is connected threw the belt tensioner with an aluminum bolt, but he has NO IDEA what the part is named or how to repair it. Tells me it would take him 5 hours, but still he has no idea what or how to repair it and what kind of damage it does. read more

I have been to this location twice and will not be going back a third time. Their prices are decent which lead me to them, but both times the results of their work were not up to par at all. Gave them a second chance even after they screwed up a simple wheel alignment. The second time I had all 4 tires replaced, as well as new lug nuts. They replaced only 3 of the valve stems, and when I checked the tire pressure for each of the tires, they were all way off from what is recommended. One tire had 22psi, while another had 45psi. Also, they were way over-torqued, to the point where my impact-grade adapter broke. Their service techs seemed nice enough and the customer service itself was great, but the work itself has made me choose another business to take my vehicle from now on. read more

They always get straight to the problem and resolve it without trying to oversell you with other services. The price are fair and they are open seven days a week. This happened to me at the Auburn, NY Mavis Tire in the month of December 2017. I watched the whole crew (minus the quite rude kid who was installing my tires) stand around for almost two hours. Rude tire kid was obviously having a tough time but nobody seemed concerned enough to lend him a hand. Finally backed my truck out and I told him he did a good job and gave him a fairly decent tip (15$). Paid my bill and drove off. I literally thought my truck would vibrate apart as I could feel the front and back wobbling. Took it back a couple days later and asked if they could check the tire balance and a very nice, apologetic mechanic (sorta stocky dude) asked if I could drop it off in the morning as to which I was happy to oblige. I picked up the truck the next day and yet another mechanic handed me my keys (I think one of the managers/assistants, shorter, youngish, he sold me the tires) and he stated that it was all set, it was the front right and it's all good now. I asked if he was sure because I positively could feel the front AND back bouncing, I could actually SEE the left rear in the side mirror off balance, or a bad belt, or something. At that point he rudely said they checked ALL four tires and it was ONLY the front right that was bad. Well...the front is now good but I still had a wobble between 30 and 45 mph in the rear. I could still see that my left/rear tire wasn't looking right while driving down the road. So, having said all that, with all the competition around I would recommend going someplace else, like Dunn Tire in Auburn or Caulkins in Waterloo. The tires themselves I am happy with, even though I was made to feel like a cheapskate by the younger, shorter manager/assistant guy who was also not happy I didn't want an alignment. I had the tire rebalanced at another garage and have had no problems since, even after the youngish, shorter Auburn Mavis salesman/manager/assistant whatever he was said I would never be happy with a lowly set of a mere $500.00 plus tires and he just knew if I would spend more I'd be satisfied. (Don't even get me started on me asking him to price out a custom exhaust and he said he'd look at it and then completely forgot about it.) Rude attitudes, shoddy workmanship and a shop that can't get it right after a second chance? Nope, I will spend my hard earned money elsewhere, like Walmart next time. Have been here with multiple vehicles for tires, brakes, and exhaust work. They always find out what work needs to be done and give you an accurate estimate before going ahead with any repairs. If they encounter any other problems while working they always bring it to you with the price to fix it but never try to push you to do anything you don't want to.
