This was my very first experience with Mavis Discount Tire in Jackson. I was in the need of 4 new tires , new brake pads, spark plugs, belts, and 90k mile tune up. Job took as long as expected only 2-3 hours. Michael , at the Jackson nj location , explained my entire work order in great detail since I am not too familiar with car maintenance. Mike pushed the benefits of choosing Mavis vs the competition and overall very knowledgeable and trustworthy. Gave me discounts that I didn't know I was eligible for!Saved me a lot of money. The team here seems to be top notch and very reliable. It's refreshing to find a place where you feel comfortable going to, without the games of you need this or you need that. I hate going to somewhere new, and getting the run around where they take advantage of people. Going here was not the case, it was very straight forward. They guarantee low prices. Overall I was impressed with the professionalism of all the employees, and their concern and passion for customer service. The spirit and morale is friendly and courteous and they seem to like working there which makes the customer experience more pleasant. No bad vibes, no tense feeling, just straight honest work. This was the first time ever going to Mavis, and won't be the last. The Manager at Mavis is a master of exaggeration and mistruths. Here is an example of some of the false statements that he makes to clients. Mistruth: Tires are no good after 5 years and need to be replaced Fact: Tires need to be examined periodically after 5 years for dry rots and cracks but do not automatically need to be discarded. For instance, if someone kept their car in a garage, the tires should not experience dry rotting after 5 years. The Manager wanted to replace tires with 6/32 tread. The industry standard is to replace tires at 4/32 tread for regions that experience significant rain or snow unless the tire has disfigurement or extensive dry rotting. In New Jersey, the minimum legal tire tread depth for passenger vehicle inspection is 2/32 of an inch. Also, tires must be replaced after 8 years from date of manufacture even if they have significant tread left. Tires should be inspected periodically upon reaching 5 years of age. My tires do not show any signs of dry rotting whatsoever. Please do not blindly follow the Manager's suggestions at Mavis but get a second opinion from a mechanic that does not sell tires. It appears that the Manager's compensation is based on the volume of tires sold. Corporate needs to send undercover customers to Mavis at Jackson to preserve the company's reputation. read more

Dishonest Service and Disrespectful Treatment at Mavis - Jackson Discount Tire Avoid this establishment at all costs. The experience highlights a complete disregard for honest business practices and basic customer service. My 77-year-old mother needed a replacement tire due to a nail in the sidewall, which I knew was irreparable. Living out of state, I called Mavis - Jackson Discount Tire, hoping to resolve the issue before I left that evening. I spoke with James Jackson, explaining my mother's situation and that I wouldn't be around to assist her the following day. James offered a price quote for a replacement tire, even adding a discount "to secure future business." He was polite and agreed to hold the price until the next day. I called back shortly after to place a deposit and schedule the appointment for 12:00 PM the following day, and was assured the installation and alignment would take only 30 minutes. The next day, my mother arrived early for her 12:00 PM appointment. Upon checking her confirmation number, she was told there would be a 20-minute wait before they could start, and that the tire change and balance would now take an hour (already 30 minutes longer than initially promised). My mother waited while other cars were brought into the bays and serviced. Her vehicle finally entered the bay at 2:28 PM. When she spoke to James (the assistant manager) about the significant delay, he dismissed her concern, stating that "appointment times don't matter because sometimes it takes longer to work on other cars," and that others were also waiting. He then callously added, "Usually I tell customers that they should have someone drop them off and come back for their vehicle when we call." My mother explained that she did not have anyone available to drop her off and pick her up and that the area lacked public transportation. He offered no response. Her vehicle was completed at 2:51 PM. When she went to pay, she was asked to buy an extended roadside assistance warranty on the tire. Thankfully, she declined, realizing that if this is how a brand-new customer is treated, the service would only deteriorate from there. If you are looking for reliable and honest customer service, do not go to this location. The Yelp reviews are very accurate and could have saved my mother considerable time and stress. I've been going to this Mavis location for four years and never had an issue until now. I arrived at 11:55 AM for a simple oil change. The person at the front desk told me to have a seat and that they'd get me in shortly. An hour and a half later, I started hearing them tell other customers it would be a two-hour wait -- yet no one ever came over to update me. After waiting a full two hours, I finally asked about my car, only to be told there were still two cars ahead of me and it would be another two hours. The communication at this location was terrible. How do you inform people who arrived after me about wait times, but completely ignore someone who's been sitting there for hours? This experience was unacceptable and extremely frustrating. I understand I was a walk-in, but I should have been treated the same as any other customer and given the option to come back later instead of being left waiting with no updates. read more

I had a nail in one of my tires, two inch's from the outside edge, and was told that it could not be repaired. I was first told it was a large staple, then I was told it was a long "shard", then I was told that the tire was just too old to repair. Oh, and they also said that you should never repaired a "low profile" tire (45 series). They obviously did need want to do the repair and only wanted to sell me a new tire. Incidentally, this tire was originally bought through them and only had 14,000 miles on it. I bought my car to a tire location a few miles away and they repaired it without hesitation. Turns out that it was not a staple or a shard but just a common nail and easy to do a plug repair on. I have had unfavorable experiences here before but came back because they are convenient for me to get to. I will not be going back again. read more

Zero rating. I am a long time customer. I had a slow leak in a tire and made an appointment for 1:00 pm with Jackson Mavis Discount Tire. I arrived early at approx. 12:45. I was greeted courteously and politely, but I was told that there were many customers ahead of me. How can that be possible if I made an appointment? By 6:30 pm I became concerned that I had not heard anything 5 1/2 hours AFTER my appointment. I was told that my car would be brought into the shop "soon." I went to the shop, and asked for my keys, as I considered this unacceptable. The person at the desk could not find my keys. He went looking for the manager and returned with my keys, which were obviously not behind the desk, and told me that my car "would be one of the next ones brought into the shop," and asked that I stay. I asked if that would be within 1/2 hour, since I had already been waiting six hours for a simple leak and plug diagnosis, and the shop closed at 8:30. The person went back to speak to the "manager," who had been hiding in the tire room with my keys, and told me that it would not be possible to look at my tire within 30 minutes. It was now almost 7 hours after I dropped my car off WITH AN APPOINTMENT, for a simple leak! AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Arrived at 3 PM because my car needed new headlights. Waited 3 hours and left without the service being done because it turned out they didn't have the headlights in stock, they didn't even mention it to me because I would have taken it elsewhere. They told me at 5:55 PM that they had ordered it from another Mavis shop but it never arrived. I overheard the manager calling 5 mins before closing to follow up. He should had followed up hours before. I wasted three hours sitting there and left with no lights and a migraine. Had to use my high beams. This place used to be great but it seems like it's under new management and now the service is awful. read more

We've used Mavis for tires for both of our cars several times. We've always had a great experience. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. They recently replaced the brakes in one of our cars and it was a smooth experience. We feel that the price was fair and competitive. Went to get a oil change and was told it was a 39$ charge , and 1.5 hr wait , left the car there and came back to pick up , now I was given a 96$ bill for the oil change , they blame it on the call center when I made the Appointment. Shady practice to me . I was told I should of call direct to the shop not the call center ,like I'm supposed to know that , why do I have to go to all this trouble for a oil change ..they ended up reducing it to 80 something like they where being generous, putting the blame on the customer .. not getting my business again read more

Brought my car in for an oil change and new front tires. They called me and told me it needed an alignment even though my old tires wore perfectly even and never had any drift, but they said it pulled left. When I left I immediately felt a hard drift to the right. I called them the next morning and brought it back in. They made a little adjustment and told me that if it persists they would have to rotate my tires and start looking at components,,,,,really? so a car that ran perfectly strait for 63K miles now needs components changed after they screwed up my alignment? BTW after the "second" alignment it still drifts right but not as bad, I will live with it because there is no way I will ever let them touch my car again! read more

Had four BF Goodrich Advantage T/A's installed on my Subaru Outback this week. All service was outstanding. Wheel balancing was perfect... 30 to 90 mph on the parkway with absolutely no vibration. Wheel alignment also dead-on.....tracks absolutely straight with no wandering whatsoever. Absolutely recommend this shop....the manager (Johnathon) has great customer service attitude. read more

Had an appt to install 4 tires and a wheel alignment on my car thats less than 3 years old. After 2 hours, the woman next to me said she was there 5 1/2 hours earlier in the week for 2 tires to be put on.  This appt she made, they only had the one tire in stock so she had to wait for other to be delivered.... She told me I was in good hands bc the guy installing my tires on IS THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING.  In watching... it is apparent that only 1 "mechanic" there is even knowledgable. The other 4 guys are standing over, watching him.  The first patron of 3 waiting leaves and the other man in the room told me he was there 4 hours for his oil change because they removed the transmission plug for said oil change and had been waiting on OEM transmission fluid from Cadillac.   3 hours into my wait, the 2nd guy had left and then came back because the tires were inflated no where near to correct PSI. After FOUR AND A HALF HOURS I left with my car a few miles up the road and didn't have that sense of wow these brand new tires feel great.  Driving to work the next day I noticed the car pulling to either direction and a vibration in the steering wheel.  It feels horrible. Not a chance I would EVER BRING MY CAR BACK TO MAVIS JACKSON, I brought it to the rt. 70 location. They said the alignment was off.  They "fixed it" and sent me out half an hour later.  The car still doesn't feel right.  As the days go on my drives get worse.  My 8 year old said "Wow, those bumps are LOUD" as I was driving a relatively well maintained road.  I knew when I pulled out from a parking lot over a small concrete break before the road MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON it was time to take it somewhere else.  10 days from installation I brought it to Pep Boys Howell who informed me the tires were not balanced.  HOW IS A TIRE SHOP NOT CAPABLE OF MOUNTING AND BALANCING A TIRE?!!!  Pepboys balanced my tires and then did a proper alignment. I went back to Mavis to explain to the manager Jay (who I can't explain enough how great he is!) what happened.  He was appalled at Rt 70 for sending me out yet again with a failed service, but told me only the store manager can issue a refund.  He took my info down, called the store manager Akeem to let him know what happened in full detail.  3 days went by and still no acknowledgment.  I called left another message.  Next day I still hadn't heard back so i called again.  I got Akeem on the phone and he talked down to me for 8+ mins and said I didn't know what I was talking about... that the balance had nothing to do with the alignment.  He admitted that only 1 guy there knows how to do an alignment there.  When I told him the other issues everyone else had that day I WAS TOLD MULTIPLE TIMES "THAT'S NOT ANY OF YOUR BUSINESS ".  I said it absolutely is my business when you f*ck my car with 30k miles up that never had an issue.  You don't have actual mechanics working there! That absolutely is my business and every customer that mistakenly goes there.  I told him that a credit was completely unacceptable and useless because I wouldn't even send an enemy there. I called customer service and the regional manager, who didn't apologize for anything, but tried to probably save this review from happening promised that Akeem would call when we got off the phone to refund me.  That didn't happen.  I reached out to regional again & was told Akeem did not want to call me so late and he would call right away.  5 hours later I said must not have been a priority and within 2 minutes someone else from the store called to refund me for the alignment I had to pay another shop to do since Mavis was no capable of the simplest of services.  Akeem couldn't even be bothered to do it himself.  Rudest, most unprofessional manager I've ever encountered and service was a nightmare.  Pepboys in Howell righted Mavis' wrong in 1 hour.  How this place is allowed to do business is beyond me.  People's lives are at stake.   Unbelievable. If I could rate them less I would.  Save the headache and future bills and damage.  Try Pepboys. read more

I recently got new rims for my car and when I called around, not only did they give me a real discounted price but they also did a free alignment check. I was in and out of the shop in less than an hour and a half. For mounting and balancing 4 tires and an oil change, that's pretty impressive. When I asked for an oil change I requested a specific type of oil for my car. Unfortunately a lot of shops will charge you for one thing and put another in your car. I felt confident and assured that this shop put in what I requested. Greg was a VERY big help in making all of this happen. Easily one of the best shops for tires, repairs and general maintenance. I took my 2015 Acadia with only 38000 miles on it to Mavis on 5/30/18 because my right rear brake was grinding and the rotor was visibly scored. I was told that I needed new rear pads and rotors. I made it well known to the counter person that there was clearly something else wrong since only one brake out of four was worn out. Ten months later I now have the same exact problem. Mavis clearly misdiagnosed the original problem, even though I was very vocal about it being very unusual that only one brake had issues on my first visit. The diagnosis this time was a bad caliper. They than robbed me with an excessive bill. They charged me $952.92 for the two visits! I called their customer service number and was jerked around for two weeks with no results. I stopped in the Jackson NJ location on Tuesday, April 25 for an oil change. I was told that they were too busy as there were a few cars ahead of me and they were closing within 1.5 hours. I completely understood and scheduled an appointment to come back in on Thursday, April 27. My appointment was set for 5:30, they are open until 8 pm on Thursdays. (I called the store prior to the first time going in for a price on an oil change, I was told it would be $40 something plus tax). When I showed up for my appointment I specifically said that the car takes regular oil and that I definitely do not need or want synthetic. The guy behind the counter, not sure of his name, logged everything into the computer, told me there would be a free tire rotation. He then proceeded to tell me that the total was $98. When I questioned this he said he wrote it up as full synthetic. Sounds like bait and switch to me. When I corrected him, he asked me if $46 sounded correct. I think the employees should know the pricing. Anyway, after all of this, I was told there was a 1.5 - 2 hour wait even though I had an appointment. I was told that they are really busy. Ok, but this is why I scheduled an appointment in the first place. The point of this review is 1. make sure employees know pricing and not to try to up sell on the sly. 2. If a customer has an appointment, that customer should be taken in and not told to wait for 2 hours. If this is the case, do not accept appointments. Make it strictly first come first serve. Needless to say, I would have become a Mavis customer, but not anymore. I have never been there before and I will not be going back. read more

I purchased brand new tires from Mavis Discount Tire last March (3/20). I got what I thought was a great price on tires about $90 per tire. I take my car in yesterday (6/21) to get a nail removed from my tire and they tell me I need all new tires. I obviously stated I had just bought new tires a year ago from them how could this be possible. They proceeded to tell me the tread was torn and my rim was going to bust out of my tire and said this happen if it is not aligned. I was under the assumption when you get new tires they get balanced and aligned, but apparently not. They said I declined the alignment, which is entirely false. I was never even asked about alignment, I thought this automatically happens when new tires are placed on a car. I spent almost $600 on new tires a year ago and now I need to purchase all new tires again. Needless to say I will not be purchasing them from Mavis nor will I be using them for any other services in the future. read more

I am only giving them 2 stars, due to one person Ken. He was as helpful as it get's now to the serious part. I needed 2 tires for my boat trailer, they had the best price in the area. After a couple of problems with the lug studs which Ken fix'd no questions. I drove 4 miles from the store to my brothers house and parked it in his driveway. Well the tire went flat that night so I took it off the trailer and back to them. Ken wasn't there so I felt with some other rude sub humans. Who informed me I punctured the tire with in those 4 miles and would have to buy a new one. And that I drove on the tire flat. It's a boat trailer if I drove on it the tire would have been destroyed not just where the rim scraped the tire when it went flat. Long story short unless you have a full warrantee stay away from there unless you can deal with Ken. read more

I thought there was a leak in my right passenger side tire, but they ended up not finding anything. They did not charge me! Which most places would just to make $30. In Feb 2021 Mavis on Route 9 in howell told me i needed back rotors and brake pads. 500.00. In May 2022, there was a loud noise from the back so i took the 2019 Chevy equinox to Mavis Jackson. I was told i may need calipers .I was also told i needed rotors all around and Pads. I found that hard to believe as i barely used the vehicle due to covid lock down. My one caliper needed to be greased. That's it. However, i was told i really needed new rotors in the back and new brake pads. After 1000.00 later, The brakes screech and there is a hard crunch when braking and releasing the brakes. I took the SUV back twice and they said there was nothing wrong with the brakes and i now need front struts and back shocks. Another 1000.00. After getting a second opinion, i found out i do not need struts and shocks. These people are theives and i feel since i am a women, then took advantage of me. Get a second option before you let these crooks work on your vehicle. I would never recommend this company. Stay away. Go to Pep Boys instead. read more

I gave this shop many chances to redeem themselves but in the end ..this shop just wreaks of REALLY bad customer service!!! Last summer, had an auto part that needed repair which they did but damaged something else in the process. Since they had to replace the part they damaged for free , it took 5 tries in 4 weeks with numerous painful phone calls and arguments before I had the damaged part fixed. My most recent call last week for a simple service was the last straw. After finding out the price for the service, I told the phone rep never mind. The customer service rep at the location thought I hanged up and blurted "what an idiot", so I said.. what did you say ?? He hanged up. Thus this review. I have a leak in a tire, likely rim needs to be cleaned, as it is a 2007. I was told opens at 8 am, got there 7:45 am...my experience is to give this guy a big fat zero rating. He looked not interested...proceeded to tell me how busy and successful he was, and how he had 4 customers before me & leave the car...when I asked for a call back 30 minutes before he could service my car...told he was not stopping his work to call me...he does not take appointments because he is too busy. I am from Michigan, where I normally experience excellent customer service. This has been by far, the worst customer experience I have had in decades...arrogant, rude and a miserable man. He may be good at what he does, but there is a lot of other businesses out there providing the same or better service with great customer treatment. I have been vacationing in NJ for almost 2 months and this man single handedly tainted my opinion of this beautiful state. But as a retired, wealthy man, I laugh at his misery and hope he remains a wrench monkey till the day he dies, providing of course, excellent repair service with the worst possible customer experience. Go somewhere else, not here, there are plenty of busy, excellent places that will leave you smiling and not raise your blood pressure. You want best service? I went to the Mavis in Byram and rate the staff 5 STARS. Kevin the new manager is great and as always the tech, Eli is very proficient. Mavis Inc. Mavis new policy pertaining to adding a line item for shop supplies. Even if no supplies are needed for your repair a percentage charge is added up to $25. I am a resident of 40 years and my neighbors have been going to this STS now Mavis since it opened. Its a shame with all the other local service centers in the area Mavis is now introducing a new way to take our money. read more

What a train wreck. When I called to confirm they received the tires they told me they weren't there yet. When I told them I had the delivery confirmation from 2 days earlier they said they would go check and miraculously found them. Day of the appointment couldn't take me at the scheduled time even though I confirmed in the morning. No phone call just waited for me to show up. They said "we weren't busy when we confirmed". Told me I had to come back tomorrow. Got to watch as the technician made fun of a client to another coworker who they told need $1200 worth of work done and how he whined about it. Very unprofessional. Had to leave my car overnight. They called me an hour after i dropped off to tell me someone hit the car in the parking lot. Drove all the way back so they could tell me they were wrong it was someone else's car that got hit. Finally pick up the car the next day and they installed the 2 tires on the front as ordered. Drove a mile and the low tire pressure came on. They never even checked the pressure in the back to ensure it was in line with the new ones. Absolutely horrible. Went on jackson nj location to get new tires put on my expedition. Experience was fine with management first time I was here. Had to go back a second time because tires were not balanced properly. Fiancé took in and had them "fixed". About a day later my fiancé had noticed there was a lug nut missing on the rear left tire. So she called me and I told her to make sure all the lugs were tight, however she couldn't because the lugs were torn up. I had inspected them afterward and noticed that they had used a larger socket than what the size was for the truck. Called here and manager was very nice about it and apologized, and explained that they knew about and they had the new lug nut, he said the old one was to chewed up to reinstall. So the night before taking it back for the 3rd time I took it out for a test drive and noticed that the tires were still not balanced properly. So she brought it in the next day and mentioned that the tires were still not right and they assured her that it was because there was a bent rim, however this rim had been bent long before we had new tires installed on it. But she didn't know better and had accepted this answer. I got home from work and found out the tires were still out of balance. So I made another appointment during the week that my fiancé could bring the truck again, I figured no big deal, sometimes these things happen. She brings it in for the 4 th time and they rotate the tires but didn't not rebalance them. So I bring the truck back for a 5th time now and tell the manager it's still not right I need them to be balanced properly. He had agreed to take another look. So they did and found nothing wrong with the way tires were balanced. So I took it right to 195 and took a video of the steering wheel shaking while I wasn't driving, only then when I had come back and showed him the video did he pull the tires off and rebalance them. Mind you this Is the 6th time bringing the truck in on our own time. They pulled it right in when I returned. When they finished the manager told me that one of the tires was slightly unbalanced and they had to rebalance it. After this 6th stop in there it was ok. Then I went to pull the wheels off a couple days later to work on the brakes, I noticed that all but 6 of the lug nuts on our truck were destroyed. I had to beat a socket on them with a mallet and pull one off at a time like this. All in all I had to spend another $80 on lug nuts to replace the ones that had been destroyed by Mavis' employees. I went in for an oil change.came out with new wiper blades. Service manager Mark claims that I told him to replace my wipers which I did not.I have 2 sets of wiper blades in my garage.will not be going to Mavis jackson they pad your work order read more

I went in there for 2 front tires, which they replaced nicely. However, they said I had a sensor out. It was the TPMS sensor. It went on the same day. I brought it back the next day. They said one of the tires was not inflated enough. It went on later that night. I brought it back again. The service guy was nice, but he said that probably the other sensors went as well because they usually go the same time. When I gave them the ok to do it, they did not explain this. So basically I gave them $100 for nothing. The light is still on. Upon calling Honda directly, they said it probably wasn't the sensor, but the battery for the sensor, which is considerably cheaper. read more

no respect for customers at all. Made a Sunday morning apt for 9 a.m (on Wed.) was told my truck would be the very first one to have new tires put on. It would take about an hour & half. Dropped the truck off @ 8:45 a.m. called at 11 & asked if my truck was ready- got a line- I should have made an appt. etc! Explained that I had indeed made an apt & was there on time. They said well, they had a lot of appts that day & would call me when my truck was ready. Waited until 1:00 they said it will be ready at 2:30!!!!!!! They had not even started it. Went & picked up my truck I will never do business with this place again. read more
