Get to the shop and am told there are other charges such as balancing. Balancing is part of the job. Why not give me the price to do the whole job instead of sticking it to me with other charges after we agree upon the price. Not a good way to do business. I have been coming here for years. Vish and his crew are honest and reliable. I thought I had a nail in my tire. It turned out to be tiny screw that didn't penetrate the tire. They could have charged me for a big repair or told me that I needed a new tire, but they didn't. After having a flat yesterday I stopped in Mavis. We agreed upon cooper tires valued at $105 per tire for my Honda Civic in order to replace the front two tires. Upon returning to the shop to pick up the car the manager (Jose?) informed me he couldn't find the cooper tires in the shop so he put on "Mavis Traction Control Tires by Hankook" that were valued $5 more then the coopers. I had just worked an overnight shift and drove home in the rain on an almost flat tire and didn't have the energy to dispute it. The following day I went back to validate the value of the tires because I could not find the tires or an attached value of them online. They were in fact valued at $109. Ultimately, I would have preferred to have been contacted prior to the tires being put on, rather than being surprised when picking the car up. 1. Who knows how good these Mavis tires really are? 2. Maybe I would have spent an extra $10 on a brand I was familiar with and have used previously. 3. Did they have the cooper tires but were trying to get rid of the Mavis ones because no one wants them because they are an off brand( or rebranded for Mavis to use)? Who knows. 4. Do you want to trust a shop that is so unorganized that they can't find what their computerized information tracking system states they have in stock? 5. It was annoying that no information about the tires is readily available online and I had to research for a product I was unfamiliar with. ** Call your customer before doing something not previously agreed on ** I would not return I don't like auto shops that do things without previously discussing them with me. read more

I came in with a hole in my tire. Eric carried in the damaged tired and immediately assessed it. They couldn't fix it and Eric sought after which tires would fit my car. He allowed me to seek the price/quality range I wanted without any pressure to buy a more expensive one. Since they only had a few people ahead of me they were able to do the labor within the night. Come here today cause as I was leaving Long Beach I drove over a big ass screw heard a pop then started losing tire pressure, literally 2 blocks from this shop. Overall, I would recommend this place. One star off for the brake and rotor upssell routine. If you just say no to that, they seem really good with everything else and service is quick and friendly. I have visited 2x. The first time, I went in with a nail in my tire. I was relieved to learn it could be fixed and I didn't need a new tire. I got the alignment they recommended, but not the brakes and rotor replacements. Yesterday, I went in for an oil change and went across to the drug store while they were doing it. I've been driving around on a donut for a week due to no time to sit for hours in a tire shop to replace. Called Mavis this morning to see if I could bring it in for a new tire. The guy on the phone pulled up my information and very enthusiastically declared that they could take me now no problem and to bring it right in. I cleared my work schedule for the rest of the morning and shuffled meetings around to bring it in. Promptly drove to the location within 15 minutes of my call, where the guy at the desk said "oh you must have spoken to the call center. Sorry we're full. Try calling this afternoon." Thanks for nothing. Complete disconnect. How do they expect people have endless time to drive back and forth? I work in the city, a 2 hour commute. They are closed by the time I get home on any normal workday. When I call ahead to confirm, I expect I'm getting accurate information. Won't bother again. read more

I'm doing this review for the single time that I've stopped by this shop. My car was at the Public Storage about a mile down the road. I noticed my tire was deflating. I took it to the nearest tire place around and it was this Mavis. They did the repair on the tire but as they were pulling the car out, it hit some sharp object in the shop and blew the time. One of the guys told me that they would replace it with a brand new tire for free. I drove out of there with a brand new tire. Glad they took the responsibility. I am giving them four stars because they handled the issue with no excuses. That has to count for something. read more

So I had the pleasure of a flat tire last Friday... I avoided it all weekend and finally made the trip to the shop this afternoon (Monday). I got there about 20 minutes before they closed and the gentleman at the front desk was reluctant to help at first. After saying they were backed up and about to close, he asked me if I already had the tire off and the spare on. I said I had changed it before coming over. He asked me to bring it into the office and he'd look at it. Upon seeing the nail in the tread, he sent it back to a tech to plug. Five minutes later, the tech was wheeling my tire back around to me. I asked what I owed for the service and the gentleman said it was on him. I shook his hand and told him I was new to the area but just found my tire dealer. if you are looking for poor customer service, subpar mechanical work, lies and deceits, then this is the place for you. 1. new tires installed and the balancing was way off. brought it in 3x to get it sorted and they said after the 3rd attempt its "perfect". Drove to boston this weekend and home and the truck was shaking terribly. Brought truck to a reputable shop in town. They removed all 4 tires and not a single tire was even remotely close to being balanced. I took pictures of the weights they put on the tires at Mavis and of the balance machine after it checked it. TOTALLY NUTS HOW BAD IT WAS. Some tires were over 10oz misbalanced. When all the weights were removed from the tire it was closer to being balanced by a lot. Shameful on Mavis for taking up all my time to "fix" an issue when in the end they dont even know how to use the balance machine. PS: this cost me another $100 to get the job done right 2. with these new tires i was sold on "replacement Tips" for tire pressure sensor. After paying this fee and taking the truck home a friend pointed out that they did not change the tips. Brought the truck back in and they said somehow it was overlooked and they could sort it out for me. I had no time so said forget it. Regional manager called me and apologized and said free oil change next time i come in. I asked why they are in the practice of selling a service and not performing it. Dead Air. 3. Wife needed new tires on her car and based on price had Mavis take care of it. On phone wtih them i asked them to confirm Final Price with tax. Then after the job was done they hit me for $85 more saying it was for tax and no way did the person on the phone say tax was included. I was quite frustrated and the manager just looked at me blankly and said i had to pay the money. I was more than fair with this company by giving them every opportunity to fix and address issues. Clearly this is a systemic issue with the management at Mavis as top down its all lies and stories. Some of the excuses i was provided for all these mishaps was just hysterical but so sad at the same time. I wish a company like this in a small town like long beach just did not exist. Every time i see a car going in there i know they are taking advantage of another person. the regional manager, upper management, sales staff, store manager, etc. should all be ashamed running such a business. Praying on people when they need service on a vehicle they rely on daily. PS: i would be happy to take a call/reply/sit down with anyone at Mavis that would try and further explain all this. read more

This place is dishonest and what they are doing is committing fraud! They upsold my teenage brother on power steering fluid and braking fluid during a routine oil change. I know for a fact that his car did not require these products, because I checked these fluids shortly before. To make things sound even worse I am not convinced that they even changed these fluids. I hate this place so much. I came here last year to get an oil change and I regret it so much. I paid for the services then went outside to a dead car so they had to jump my car. I finally left and began driving and my brake petal was sinking. It was scary. I immediately went back and they flushed out my cars fluids and refilled everything. Then I take a look at the car when it's done and there's red streaks on it. Clearly the railings were red in the shop and it scraped against. I was beyond angry. My Dad also bought tires on-line and had them install - they tried to tell him he needed new brakes, he called me and asked me to look at them. the rotors and pads had quite a lot of life in them. would not recommend. read more

This place was my first choice, but I was met with Jose telling me, "I can't price-match because our tires are already discounted." Even when I showed lower prices (including shipping, etc.) on my phone, the answer in LB was that they couldn't "do anything" unless I'd printed out those quotes and brought the physical piece of paper with me. Really? If I'd printed out what I'm showing you on my phone, we could have worked together? Well, that's some ridiculous BS. And a lie, as they've price-matched for years. So here I am in the Island Park Mavis location now and these guys are cranking out the work on my SUV. No one else here except me, the manager and two friendly garage workers. The manager worked with me on price-matching my tires, had them in stock, and worked with me on an oil change and full alignment too. I'll not only never, ever go back to the LB location, but now I'm bringing my whole family's cars to this dude in Island Park. I would put 0 if allowed ! Brought my car for rear brake pads, they called and informed me that i needed new rotors in the rear. And i said thats fine. They said they'd have the car done by 10:30am the latest. The car finished at 11:56 and i am late for work. After getting the printed out bill they put front brakes and front rotors without my permission. And there's nothing more to be said bc the job is already done. I swallowed my $600 bill and went in my car only to be further aggravated that they left the paper on the floor of my car full of dirt and my door window button and handles covered as well. Oh and i did i mention they broke my car key !! The cashier apologized that they do not know which of the mechanics did it. (They turned the key too hard and it broke off the plastic, and they wrapped it back up with electric tape.) But now i have to spend another $60 in honda to buy a replacement ! You've lost a customer for life this is just ridiculous ! read more

Only giving one star because I have to put something. I would prefer to give them 0 stars. I went in about 4 months ago for new front tires. Seemed to go easy enough, had to wait quite awhile but it was a Saturday so I shrugged it off. They tried to get me to do additional work - but I said no thank you because for some reason I just didn't trust their diagnosis. Turns out my intuition was right, flash forward to today. I got a flat tire on my back tire - not one of the new ones - but I bring it in to a shop local near my job to get it repaired. They proceed to tell me that my "new" front tires are from 2011!!!!! And that since my car is AWD, I should always have 4 of the same tires on the car - Mavis should have known that. I can't get over the fact that Mavis is selling tires from 2011 - or that there isn't some regulation on car shops for things of this nature. They are allowed to do whatever they want to SCAM their customers and take their $$. I figured I should go to a tire shop for tires, they are the experts but I was highly mistaken. I purchased four brand new tires on Fri., 4/13/12 at Mavis in Long Beach. I also purchased the hazard warranty on each tire. A mile after I drove away I heard a rattling sound on the passenger side for a couple of seconds. I drove around the block to see what may have caused the sound and found a measuring tool for tires on the side of the road. Conclusion: the object had been left in one of the wheel wells during installation and fell out while I was driving. I stopped by the establishment on 4/19/12 and spoke with the representative whom I had purchased the tires from, told him what happened and he thanked me for returning the measuring tool. The very next morning, 4/20/12, with just over 180 miles on the new tires, I sustained a rear passenger flat tire. I was shown a big gash in the side of tire. They say I can't prove that the object caused the blowout and, although I have the warranty, I am still being charged with the tire balancing and the new warranty on the replacement tire despite my assertion that it was their own workmanship that caused the blowout which, again, they claim I can't prove. Although the total with sales tax is just over $30, it's the principle of having to pay this new charge after the likelihood of the cause of the flat tire which has precipitated me to post this review. read more
