Be Aware! Mavis Discount Tire in Long Beach is not a reputable mechanic. My daughter brought her car there for an inspection and was told she needed brakes and rotors. Eighteen months and 24,000 miles later her brakes were grinding. We brought the car to our trusted mechanic who said she needed brakes and rotors again. He said that there's nothing way Mavis changed her rotors during that last service because the parts he removed were stamped with the KIA logo. Corporate refused to help make this right. They promised us same day service and they lost the item. The tire went to Island Park and they didn't know where it was. We were promised by 5 PM and lost two days work. We had a flat tire 4 am and it could not be resolved in 1 day. The tire was ordered 8:30 am and not received until the next day when we were promised by 5 pm. They are open until 8 pm. Told front desk they and said they were. Showed them I marked the tires they spoke to tech and said he did not rotate. had to wait another 1.5 hours to rotate. Who knows if they ever changed the oil. I went today to get an oil change on my truck and have my brakes checked because they're under warranty from mavis and i have had difficulty with the car shaking over 40 mph when i brake. they charged MORE for an oil change than the mavis a mile away i usually go to (but didn't today because this is closer to my home to walk from). the oil change at this mavis was 25$ more for no reason. i still continued on because again, it's closer to my house than the one i frequent normally. the man (richie) at the front desk did not listen to anything i said about the truck and just yes'd me to death when i was trying to explain my concerns. when he called me to tell me the truck was done, i asked if anyone looked at the brakes under warranty with them and he didn't think they did so he asked. he then got back on the phone to tell me the brakes look new and i need nothing done and they can't "drive it around this area 40 mph so i have to get a second opinion somewhere else" even though he told me to go to the mavis a mile and change away on the same exact block to have them drive it 40 mph? when i finally got back into the truck a bunch of stuff from my middle compartment was on the front drivers seat? and 3$ of money was missing from a roll of quarters i had for parking. not only did they tell me they were essentially unable to do their job, the little bit of a job they did they went through my shit. i would give a zero if i could. They tell me come back Wednesday and I do, the car passes inspection. Thursday morning I'm driving to work and my car stalled in the middle of traffic going 40 mph. Never had a problem before . I was blocking an intersection , almost got hit, and could not get my car to start and had to call AAA. My car previously had 0 problems and is less than 2 years old, bmw. When I spoke to him at 430 he said it will take another 10-15 minutes according he took an extra 5 dollars off after telling him about a special that he wanted to take 15 but it was 20 on the site (basically tax) and told me that they were short two guys today and the cars before me needed extra work. Not my problem that they were short that should've been mentioned that it would be a longer wait when I asked how long it would take to begin with. Meanwhile, they were guys in the back singing and dancing. Clearly not their first priority to actually get cars done, but look like more of play time. Will not return to this location. Have gotten my car done professionally by the FRANKLIN Square branch for much less of a cost. Only reason I chose here is because it was close to my house. read more

I formerly used Mavis at Broadway Mall and was very pleased. Having recently moved to Long Beach I used this local Mavis. There is no regard for finish time/date. The first repair-- tire check and breaks-- was not completed until the following day, despite being told it would be same day. Next repair was wheel bearings. I was quoted $600 and told if I bring it on Sunday, it would be ready by Monday late morning. As of Tuesday they were just starting on the car and realized that they had ordered the wrong bearings. The correct order would not be received until Thursday. As the job had been started, I could not even use my car. When we finally arrived to pick it up at 6:30 Thursday, it was still on the lift. The charge was over $1400. They said the car needed two wheels done and the quote was parts only. With them holding the car for so long and having at least five conversations, the at least doubling the price for two wheels should have been mentioned. Poor management, poor communication, overall ripoff. I may risk another location in the future. However stay away from this location! read more

got new tires here a few months ago, and they were good tires at a fairly reasonable price (except for the state fees which were not disclosed in the pricing that was advertised online), but today i went to take my wheel off so i could get at my serpentine belt to replace my a/c compressor, and found that mavis had over-torqued the lug nuts so much that i snapped my breaker bar's drive shaft trying to loosen them. my breaker bar was rated up to 270 foot pounds, and the torque spec on my lug nuts is only 95 foot pounds, so those idiots had literally torqued my lug nuts more than two and a half times as much as necessary. i had to pay a shop $78 to loosen the lug nuts, and to replace the lugs whose caps i stripped while trying to remove them. not to mention, if i had happened to have a tire blow out in the middle of nowhere before realizing mavis' shoddy work, i would've been stranded. I wish I could give 0 stars. Do not go here. The staff had changed so frequently over the years and the quality of the staff and work has just declined dramatically. Let me start with my recent issues, I had 4 tires installed 2 months ago I didn't look at my receipt when I paid for them but they asked if I wanted the road hazard and I said yes well needless you say they didn't add it and when I got a piece of metal in my tire I brought it in and they said sorry it's not covered and I needed a new tire and it would take 3 days you get it. Needless to say i put in a can of fixaflat brought it to good year and they took care off it for me immediatly and I was able to purchase road hazard on three other 3 tires. Now when I initially had the four tires done I was told I needed shocks but they couldn't get them they were a manufacturer product only so I went toyota purchased then and brought it to mavis to have them installed I left my car with them for several hours I go pick up my car I drive it around the block and I hear rattling I go right back they put it on the lift turns out the mechanic only hand tightened the bolts on one of the shocks. Lastly I had my brakes done by then 6 months ago while I was driving today and I hear grinding and felt something was wrong when I was braking. I brought my car to Goodyear only to find on the driver's side brake pads one had nothing left to it the other was full and it appears the caliper was not functioning properly, and meanwhile on the passenger it appears one pad was missing from the caliper completely, I'm lucky the single pads on each side were functioning enough to make me stop as needed otherwise I could've been in a bad accident or dead. I suggest you Do not bring your car here under any circumstance if you do be prepared for an issue later. read more

After reading the reviews here I've had two experiences that are pretty similar. First the good.... Came in for one tire to be replaced, could not locate the same stock tire on vehicle but were helpful in trying and did their best in locating said tire, also got me in for a quick NYS inspection on same said car.. That was the good. ( Got tire at another shop ) Now the bad... Different car needed front tires, brought it in for my wife and decided to wait in the waiting room about 30 minutes go by and a tech/mechanic/salesman? comes in and says sir come with me for a minute. Okay? I go in and see both front wheels off the car and he proceeds to show me my alleged worn brakes and that they're running a special and would be an additional XXXXX dollars to repair. Furthermore he states that if they're not changed because they're worn out, I'll wear out the rotors if I continue to drive the car like this. Again, Okay? I then proceed to inform said person that I had changed the brakes about two weeks prior, myself and still had the receipts in the car.... Strange silence and then says he must have made a mistake. Want to be sold stuff you don't need?  Wanna let some bonehead monkey-hammer your car?  This is the place for you. Then look at the help. Minimum wage. Huge turnover. Dirty. On-line appointment? Forget about it. They do. How does this place stay in business? Don't forget the 100-point inspection!  According to my "service adviser/team member"  I need: Oil change Brake fluid flush Power steering fluid flush New battery New front struts New rear struts New tires Front Brakes Rear Brakes oh yea -- Four tires Funny thing is my car doesn't need any of this stuff.  But they showed me a printout that said "FAIL" on top in red. Here's a tip for dealing with these leeches if you absolutely have to go there for tires (don't even think of getting anything fixed there):  Since they price tires on the P.C. Richard Principle or "what's the most we can get from this loser,"  look up the tires you want on their Web Site and demand they meet the advertised price.  They'll try to steer you to some Chinese Fulken or Dragon Master knockoff for the price of Generals or Michelins, but use the brain God gave you.   Wow, just imagine what oil they put in those cars.   Oh yea, and check your lug nuts.  They'll either be loose, missing here and there or be so tight your brake rotors are warped.  Oh yea, now you need brake rotors too. read more

Yesterday I needed to take my grandmother in order to get simple inspection on her car before the end of the month. Simple right? Wrong! They call me up telling me they cannot work on the car and that the back tires were 85% worn and needed to be replaced. The car failed inspection due to a recall from nissan and we needed to take it to the dealer to get it corrected and after a short inspection on the car I find out on Nissan's report confirmed that the pads on the entire car are in perfect condition. This is one of many times they deliberately have taken advantage of my 70 year old grandma, it is utterly disgusting that they can get away with treating a loyal customer of 10 plus years.
