I went there in August 2024 to have my brakes done. Never felt like they were done properly. October 1924 every time I stepped on my brakes, the car shook uncontrollably. I finally in January, went to another mechanic who said they were the worst cheapest brakes that could be put on a car. When the mechanic took them off The rotors were all rusted and corroded. They said they were never done. The rotors were never changed. I paid a lot of money and after two months, I had to redo them. This place is a rip off. They charge you a ton of money and put junk parts on your car, and they charge a ton of money for parts. They didn't even replace. Stay clear. Bad bad Business read more

My car was making a knocking noise coming from the suspension. Brought it in on a Friday...they didn't look at it until Monday. They went ahead without informing/asking to replace the brake pads, claiming that they were loose and worn. Meanwhile I just had the pads and rotors done 6 months ago. When I told them this, the managers reply was they were "worn on the sides". Utter non-sense...the guy couldn't even look me in the eye as he tried BS around this lie he committed to. I paid them nonetheless...$230 for a brake job that was not required. And yes...my car was still making the same exact knocking noise it came in with. They fixed nothing and made up BS easy work to bill shop time for. Avoid at all cost, dishonesty has no value and they should not be rewarded for it. BTW - I did a bit of research later that day...came across a suggestion to lubricate the leaf springs. I sprayed them down with silicone spray and guess what...it worked, noise is gone. These "professional mechanics" couldn't figure this out? Wow...dishonest and incompetent. read more

I am impressed. The place is very, very busy (means you should try to make an appointment), but the guys up front are professional and courteous and they did what they promised, maybe took a little more time than I thought but not terrible-again they are very busy and seem to also have lots of repeat biz from customers in Long Beach-very chatty, like a good neighborhood place. They failed my car for tires being unsafe but were not pushy about selling me new ones. I ended up shopping it around and getting the tires elsewhere but truthfully their price on the spot was reasonable and I almost felt bad bringing the car back and having them finish the inspection. I would be comfortable recommending them and going back to them in the future. And I'd let them do the work next time. read more

As said in a previous review I would use them again... So I did and let me preface a few things and why they're keeping the 2 stars. First off, the owner or manager? Dan, was a gentleman and remained courteous and polite even though I was clearly annoyed. Also should be noted the shop has a professional appearance clean and well kept inside and out. Secondly, the service side of things was prompt as told, I received a text about 4 hours later to let me know my car service was complete. Now heres my issue, I was going to replace my rear shocks my self, lack of space and etc losses from Sandy and whatever made it a problem. That being said, I know what things should cost even with a mark up, how can they justify charging me 109 dollars each for shock that cost 45 dollars on Amazon with free shipping or about 52 dollars at a retail store...(Pep Boys, Auto Zone, Napa, Etc) RETAIL 52 DOLLARS NOT WHOLESALE..... I get it there are mark ups on buying wholesale and reselling to a consumer, but buying something retail and then marking it up 2.5X???????? I am also aware that a business needs to compete and pay rent etc. but that what labor costs are for. Steer clear and be sure to ask prices of parts before dealing with this shady business practice. read more

Amazing place, competent and caring. I was in LI on business, drive in from from CT. Suddenly, my one year old car was leaking coolant. I didn't know how I was going to get home. When every other car repair place turned me away, including the dealer, I came across this place. When I arrived I met Dan who went out of his way to help me. Without charging me Dan troubleshooted some issues and when I needed to get the car up on the rack they were ready to handle it instantly. After diagnosing the problem and realizing that the broken part was a dealer part, Dan immediately called the dealer to help me locate one same day so they could do the work and get me home. I can't thank them enough. Later I found out that this place is known in the community for being awesome. Ah, real life savers over the holiday weekend! Close to my rental, and they were super friendly, talking to you like a real person, as opposed to someone they want to scam and get more money out of. It was just a good vibe all around. I needed to replace the muffler/exhaust, because it was vibrating so loudly I couldn't even think straight while driving. I brought it in at 4:30 on a Friday, and it was too late to get started or finish the work, but they said they could get to it by Saturday. He said he would call me later in the day to give me an estimate of the work and get my approval before doing anything. Not too long after he calls, probably not even more than an hour, and tells me his estimate. It was a huge sum, around $900 and he even said that was expensive, but if I wanted it done he would do it. Then he suggested a cheaper alternative, enough to hold me over, for $300. I really appreciated that, because that's what I needed, and I didn't want to be pressured into getting more done. It felt really honest which is kind of rare these days. By the next day, I got a text around 12:45 pm that my car was ready for pick up. So I walked there, paid, got my car, and everything sounded great! Good enough for me, and definitely good enough to get home, and get more work done by local mechanics if it crapped out. Reasonably priced too! read more

I don't usually write reviews but I felt I had to since my life and health depends on car safety. I had serviced my car at Savvy for two years and everyone is very accommodating and polite but smiles wont buy you life. Recently I was driving in the rain and my front breaks blew up. My breaks were replaced a year ago at Savvy, however when local mechanic examine it, he said only one left front break was replaced and I was charged for both right and left. God knows what else I paid for at Savvy that was never fixed. Luckily, I was not injured during incident but I want let everyone to be aware of their negligent service. Very disappointed! My regular garage, at the time, didn't have the machine to flush out the fluid for automatic transmissions (See my review of "All In One") so after asking around (and with some help from a friend of mine who grew up in Long Beach) I found this place. It turns out that one of the managers, "Johnny" is someone I know from back when when I owned my own NYC taxicab and a luxury sedan I used to answer corporate charge accounts; he used to work on these cars of mine all the time and always knew what he was doing so I felt very confident when I saw him behind the counter at this service center. I subsequently had my transmission fluid changed here again (this time using synthetic ATF which works GREAT!) and also my coolant changed (again, my regular garage doesn't have this machine; there is also a well-known chain that supposedly does this but the last time I used them, they just put colored water in my cooling system rather than genuine anti-freeze containing coolant; they've been cited for this too many times in investigative television reporting). read more

I've used these guys for about 25 years.. Normally very good; however just had an incident where they replaced the wrong headlight (they replaced passenger side instead of driver side). Passenger side was never out. The background .. My wife got a ticket for headlight out on the DRIVER SIDE and I brought it to Savvy. They said she needed entire new Headlight (around $350 for entire repair). Got stopped again (for same headlight) and took back to Savvy. When picked car up they said they just replaced the driver side bulb... and as the story went on, I discovered they originally replaced the entire headlight on the PASSENGER SIDE. The passenger side was never out. Wanted to be reimbursed for the mistake that they made ... but they refused to do so. Making matters worse -- the cop never documented which side the light was out on. They are claiming the passenger side was out. Taking it up with upper management now. Bummer that I have to find someone new to work on my cars.... read more

Had a problem with car on my way to work, crawled into Savvy and Johnny took a look at the car right away. The oil plug came out of my car and I had lost almost all my oil. He replaced it, filled the car with oil, test drove, and gave me my car back within 45 minutes! So helpful and considerate. I will be using them in the future for my auto maintenance. read more

Beyond disgusted at the level of rudeness I encountered today. I left work in Long Beach to find a nail in my tire. Drove to GoodYear to get some help. I walked in at 6:04. There were 3 mechanics sitting around doing nothing, they said the manager would be right out. This guy walks out looking like a shlep with basketball shorts and a T-shirt on like "Uhm can I help you? We're closed." They closed at 6, which I didn't know, cause the open sign was still on. I said that I was desperate and could really use the help, was wondering if someone could patch my tire. He laughed and said "nope not today, we're closed." I asked if there was anything he can do. He said no I can't make the mechanics do anything. I said "okay, do you mind if I ask them then?" He said "no you can't ask them." So I said "okay, great, thanks for such great customer service." He said "Maybe you should try coming on business hours!" It's very sad to see that apparently not a single person could be the slightest bit inconvenienced 4 minutes after close. I went to Mavis on Austin Blvd in Island Park and they were closed too but opened their doors for me and patched my tire and didn't even want to take money from me! I gave them a big tip. This is my first review of any kind, ever. Brought my car in for simple NYS inspection. Savvy failed it because I wouldn't pay $348 for rear brakes, which they said were "completely shot." I went to another mechanic, who confirmed the brakes were far from shot, and gave the car a passed inspection. Savvy auto are rip-off artists. All my cars and trucks have been long time clients of Dan and big John. They do not over sell and provide quick but consistently and effective repairs. They do not overstate and do not over do. They fix the problem at least expensive option but do not compromise safety. Savvy's mechanics are knowledgeable pros, are friendly. The whole shop is clean, neat and transparent- you can watch from the waiting room window if you want. I was having issues they let me know that the what the problem was what my options were with the price would be and the people are very friendly. what I can't understand is why all you people are getting bad reviews. when have you ever considered that It might be a new person they hired that you gave an attitude or it might be that you came off as rude and disrespectful.
