I had a reservation for 9.30am. My car went on a lift at 11am. Not quite what I expected. $742 for 4 tires, alignment, oil change, air filter and inspection. The guys there were nice and relatively easy going. Prices seemed reasonable. Clean bathrooms, which matters. But, the wait was a killer. Call me at 9 and tell me you are running late, I'll stay busy for an hour at home. Probably frustrated as I used a vacation day for this, but let's run on time. read more

These guys get stars for the great low flat rate service I got (after personally replacing almost every part of my front suspension). After their alignment the car is very driveable but as a car guy I tend to notice when things aren't exactly right. They do not supply an alignment data sheet to show the measurements on the vehicle as many great shops do. So I have no idea why there is a noticeable pull to the left. Perhaps I will give them a chance to redeem themselves soon. read more

I dropped my car off on Saturday morning as requested to have the work done Sunday. Came back 1/2 hour before closing and was asked to come back in an hour and that we were next. Took the kids to eat and came back. The assistant manager then told us that there were 3 cars ahead of us. He refunded our money and gave us the number for customer support. I called the store on Monday and spoke to the manager Sal. He demonstrated no remorse for the situation and told me that this was what happens when you wait till the last minute. I called customer service and got an answering service. 4 days later and I have not received a call back. Horrible service and a very unprofessional manager. I have taken both of my vehicles here and I received great service, the staff is very friendly and willing to work with their customers. They are as efficient as they can be with getting customers in and out in a timely manner. When asked about tire options for my sized tire, they gave me the cheapest price to the highest. Worst possible experience today . Not even worth 1 star. Called the number listed for the location and they took my name and information and told me to come right over for a seasonal tire change . Upon arrival the assistant manager told me it would be a 1.5 hour wait which was irritating but I agreed and proceeded to wait... 1.5 hours later my car hadn't even made it into the garage and the now "manager" told me it would be another 45 minutes. An hour AFTER that, my car finally made it in while multiple staff including both managers stood around... and my car sat on the lift. When I approached the assistant manager he threw a fit and stormed through the doors to finally help finish up my car. Absolute joke. The manager did apologize and said they were short staffed but I honestly don't think anyone on the front of the house side ( management ) should be employed. And I NEVER have written a negative yelp review in my life. read more

STAY AWAY!! Far far away! This business your MINIMUM wait time is 3 hours.... THREE HOURS, for 2 tires to be put on. Or 4-5 hours. The people who wait at the front desk are RUDE and disrespectful. They tell you the wait will be a "little while" which in actuality is 4-5 HOURS. I don't know about you but I don't have the ability to wait 4-5 HOURS for 2 tires to be changed, and a rude behavior... yeah I can get someone else to do the same job if not better elsewhere. Unbelievably poor service and total incompetence. Ordered the tires I needed from Mavis online on Tues. and made an apt. for 9:30am on Saturday. After waiting 3 hrs, for them to complete the work, they had put the wrong tires on my car. Waited another two hrs for them to fix their mistake. Waited 5 hrs when I had an apt. Wonderful way to spend my Saturday. On previous work, different date and different car, they failed to place the lock security nuts on the tires, conveniently replacing them with cheap studs. I won't bring my vehicle back here EVER. Stay away! Update: So they corrected their mistake and after spending most of my Saturday waiting for my car, I drove off. After a few minutes my tire pressure monitor alarmed, stating low pressure in one of the rear tires. When I returned home, the tires were under inflated by between 10 and 16 psi. None of the four tires had even close to the same pressure, all were under inflated, and the rear tires were 14 and 16 psi off the pressures recommended by the manufacturer. Not only will I never return to Mavis for tires, I vow to spend five hrs of my time (same amount wasted by them today) making sure everyone I know is aware of this completely incompetent shop. read more

My husband went in last week to buy 4 new snow tires for our car, and have them installed. He had an appointment for 6:30 pm. My husband was informed shortly after he arrived promptly for his appointment, that there would be a "3 hour window|" for waiting. THREE HOUR WINDOW at 6:30 at night???? This is absolutely inexcusable!!!! He drove almost an hour to get there after work, was on time and then had to WAIT 2+ hours before he FINALLY had the tires put on the vehicle?? He didn't get home that night until almost 11pm!!! This is complete garbage! I would never recommend this company to anyone, & will tell everyone I know about this and to steer clear. This is how they treat people who are buying $480+ in tires and giving them good business, and helping pay their salaries? BEWARE! read more

Was charged over $100 to have a valve stem/tire pressure sensor replaced on my 2007 Jeep Patriot. Now I am getting a message that says "CHECK TPM SYSTEM". Mavis is the only one that has done any work to this, yet when I take it back they told me "It's a Jeep thing, you are going to have to take it to the dealer". Very unprofessional. Mechanics have no idea what they are doing. Did not offer to do anything to fix this issue. I even contacted corporate on this one. I am in the process of filing a complaint with NY State Consumer Affairs. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE. I refused to sign the receipt since they fixed NOTHING, and they threatened to keep my car keys. Okay so I give them two stars instead of one because they are really friendly, I got a free tire rotation, and I did wait about an hour and a half but they apologized. Here's where it really kinda went wrong. I was told I needed my power steering fluid to be flushed and changed, and the way he described it was my fluid was very gritty, black, etc. and said I could have future problems if they didn't fix it. He said they'd do it for $60 that night. so I call my dad and he said they were trying to get money out of me so I told them no, but he tried to persuade me and I politely declined once again. So then no further problems with them directly I head home and decide to check the fluid just to make sure I really need to get this changed and to get it done in the future. I check the fluid, it's so clear and "Amber" colored it looked like liquid soap. It's supposed to be this color. So they did actually try to get money out of me, totally lied to me. I think they thought since I'm only 18 and still had to consult with my dad on things (I told them I would ask my dad about the tire rotation so that's where they got that knowledge from) that they could take advantage of me. Kinda disrespectful. Needless to say, not gonna go there again any time soon. read more

My tires are mounted and balanced. It was performed on the day I dropped them off. That's just about the extent of my positives. On the other hand... Over $30 a piece to mount and balance tires? It was $22 a piece for 14" tires and $33 a piece for 19" tires. I might be missing something here but I don't see what the extra cost is for when I brought the wheels and tires in already removed from the vehicle. They didn't have to put a vehicle on a lift, take the wheels off and lug the massive 19" beauties to their little machine. They also didn't need to put them back on the car and torque the ever living bejesus out of them like every local shop also loves to do. This probably isn't a hit on the Ballston Spa branch specifically since I doubt they regulate their own prices at each location. They didn't have the opportunity to have my vehicle checked this time since I brought the wheels separately, but somehow every vehicle I bring there needs a completely new set of struts and brakes no matter how recently they've been replaced. What strange luck I have?!? Somehow by the grace of God I didn't blow a spring through the hood and lose all braking power and incinerate in a fiery ball of high octane fuel and molten twisted metal as I was led to believe was my most certain and imminent fate. I loved this place when they charged me between 10-15$ per wheel but this is absurd. I guess I'll be taking my business to the local Bal-Fart (fictitious name to protect the identity of rival business) next time. read more

I got a new set of tires there with a 60,000-mile warranty about 10 months ago. I paid extra to get "road hazard" insurance on the tires. I was told I must rotate the tires every 5,000 miles or the warranty would be voided. A couple of oil changes and tire rotations later (at a different place) and I learned they do oil changes at Mavis, so I took it there for an oil change and tire rotation. A short time after I dropped the car off, I got a call and was told the tires were bald and that I needed new tires and it would cost $480 and the car would be ready in an hour. I said I just bought the tires from them a few months earlier and they were under warranty. They said the warranty wouldn't apply, I would've had to pay for the "road hazard" coverage. I said I did. They said I would need receipts showing the tires were rotated every 5,000 miles, I said I had the receipts. They put me on hold, then came back and said maybe I don't need new tires- we will rotate them and see how the tires hold up. Hmmmm...... A minute ago, before you new the tires on there were under YOUR warranty, you were telling me I needed new tires and trying to sell me new tires. Fast forward to the next oil change 5,000 miles later. I can tell my tires are bald, they squeal like crazy. I drop it off with a note that I think I need new tires. I get a call and I am told a new tire has 11/32 of an inch of tread. A tire can't pass inspection if it has 2/32 of an inch of tread, and my car has 4/32 of an inch of tread, so I need new tires- especially with winter around the corner. I say okay, give me new tires- and the tires on there are under your warranty. I am told I need "road hazard" coverage and proof of tire rotations for the warranty to apply. I said I have both of those. They put me on hold. Then they say they will give me new tires "prorated' since the tires on there aren't completely dead- they are at 6/32 of an inch and 2/32 of an inch means they are bald. I said, "Wait a minute. You JUST told me the tires were at 4/32 of an inch and that I needed new tires. Now that you realize they are under warranty and you are going to prorate me on new tires, now they have 6/32 of an inch worth of tread. The guy (manager?) said the original measurements were taken by his mechanic and he just put me on hold and measured himself and they are at 6/32 of an inch worth of tread and he'll offer me a 50% off discount on the new tires. Hmmmm.... Isn't that convenient?? I guess your own mechanic can't accurately measure tread? So they offer me new tires at 50% of the original cost. What?!?!?!? If I waited another oil change, the tread would have been 2/32 of an inch (depending on who measures, I guess) and they would have had to give me new tires! However, winter is coming and I have twin 4-year-olds and I don't want to drive around on bald tires all winter just so these crooks have to honor their warranty and give me new tires for free. BEWARE!!!! This place is not honoring their warranties, and the way I was told twice I need new tires before they realized I was under warranty.... That's just plain dishonest!!! read more

I'm worried about my mom this winter because she has already gotten stuck twice from shitty tires that were sold to her here. When she tried to contact them about it they had horrible customer service, they did nothing to compensate for their wrong doing and on top of that they were rude to her. Not happy. Initially I thought these guys were going to be a good choice as the first gentleman I spoke with on the phone was very nice and helpful (Jesse, I think?). That all changed when I arrived for my appointment. The guy who waited on me was rude to say the least. Acted like I was imposing when I asked for the total price of a different brand of tire. When I came to pick up the car, I stood there for about 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged I was there. When I went to leave I noticed black smudges all over the top of my beige interior. Had to go back in and get someone to come out and clean it. The guy who did was apologetic and nice and made sure that it was remedied before I left (I believe his name was Scott, thank you Scott) but I am very unhappy overall with the experience. Additionally, I also had to wipe down my door and steering wheel when I got home because they were disgusting too. Thankfully it was on the leather. I would definitely not recommend going here if you value the interior of your vehicle as they don't appear to have any respect for your property. Should have just gone to the dealership since they were about the same price anyway. I will definitely not be going here ever again. read more

Well strike two for Mavis Discount Tires, originally bought four (4) tires at the Saratoga Springs location last November. It took 3 days to get them installed and they lost one of my hubcaps. I filed a bad review and got a call from the "District Manager" who was sorry for the inconvenience and for my bad experience and offered to give me the extended warranty at no cost and to have reimbursement for the hub cap I had to replace. This October I was experiencing a problem with one of the tires loosing air and having to add air every other day, so back to Mavis in Ballston Spa, this time I go. I made the counter man aware of my bad experience at the Saratoga Store, he did not seem interested and took my key and info and informed me that there was no "extended warranty" applied to my prior purchase last year. No problem I say I will pay for the fix. Upon pick up I looked at the car in the parking lot the tire still looked low (and I wanted to make sure I still had four (4) hubcaps) so when I went in I asked why? Did they look at the wrong tire? Nope the man says it was a bad seal, the bead got corroded and that they fixed it. I asked how much I owe, he says "No Charge" and I asked for a receipt and he says again "No Charge" HMMMMM..... guess what happed the next morning......tire flat as a pancake. No wonder no charge because they did NOTHING!!!!! This company should be ousted from NY!!!! STAY AWAY!!!!!! read more

I've been having my cars serviced at Mavis locations for years; the Ballston Spa location here is by far the best. My entire local family have now become loyal customers of this particular Mavis as well, and it's because the manager there has always been honest and is trustworthy and the mechanics are a skilled group of guys. I've realized that the appointment scheduling is done through corporate and it's not what the corporate website portrays it to be, so I always call them directly to find out time frames if I am pressed for time or need something urgently. They always are honest with me, even if it's not convenient or what I want to hear - but I know what to expect and plan accordingly. In the many years I've been a customer of Mavis, my overall experience has been very positive. The general service is great and timely for the standard stuff (oil changes, etc). There's almost always unexpected hiccups when it comes to repairs, and can sometimes be time consuming, costly, and stressful. But I know they are going to take the time to properly diagnose & repair my vehicles so even if it takes a few extra hours (or even once an overnight stay cause my obnoxious foreign car needed a specialty part), I don't have to worry if it was done right if I was taken advantage of or paid too much for something I didn't need. I can drive away confident my daughter and I are safe until the next time I break something or need maintenance services! And, they've always always always comped some service (my next oil change or something), whenever these "hiccups" have happened, even if it's not something they did wrong or screwed up. Just to say thank you for being patient. Vehicles are more fickle than I am, and these great guys aren't perfect, but I trust Rocco & his team to give it their best and know I can count on them to get it done right. That's what keeps my family and I going back to this location and will continue to do so! read more
